This place doesn’t deserve to be recognized as a museum. The administration is not professional and the place has almost nothing interesting. The “tour” lasts 10 minutes and consists of a quick visit through four rooms and the small yard, where there is the first car used by Bob Marley, but it’s almost destroyed. The tickets costs absurd 18 USD.

Love, love, love this tour!! Great history there! I learned some things that didn't know about Bob Marley and the beginning of Reggae!

Highlight of my trip! I was impressed with Barbara's knowledge of the vast history off the top of her head! The guy who took me to n the walk went above and beyond, and the experience I n Tuff Gong meant a lot too.

NOT WORTH IT. The basic “tour” is US$20 and you literally visit 6 rooms with no more than 10 pictures each and it takes less than 30min to visit it all. On top of that the lady doing the tour (short black hair, not the blonde one) barely explains or can answer minimal questions regarding the violence in the 70s. Having said that, the blonde lady is amazing and Miss Collins a wonderful lady who got to know Bob. There is a crazy man inside yelling and swearing. It’s sad they are trying to charge this crazy amount to tourists and ON TOP OF THAT they don’t allow you to take pictures inside! I feel bad for the rest of the people that work there but they should be honest and stop charging this amount or else add more stuff to make it worthwhile (doubt it). For example, tour on Bob’s house is only US$ 5 more and its a poper guided visit in all rooms with a knowledgable guide and you end up the visit with a movie.

No photos allowed in the actual yard/residence. Always ask to take pictures anyways don’t just assume, this is people’s home and life. Informative and authentic. There was a live performance being streamed when we went also.

The Trenchtown Cultural Yard tour is a major money grab. After taking an Uber or Cab there, you are offerred 3 options: $20 total for a tour of the 'yard' (15 minutes), $30 in total for a tour of Bob Marley's Mom's House (1 room and 4 minutes), and $40 in total for a 30-minute walking tour of 5 streets of Trenchtown including back alleys. Definitely NOT worth it. The 1st tour is about 5 rooms with some old pictures and rent receipts in in. The 2nd tour is a look-see into a single bedroom which is purportedly Bob Marley's Mom's House and the 3rd tour roams the streets of the slums of Trenchtown without any explanation--it's easy to 'feel' that the residents don't want you there, even the little kids. On top of it, after the tour, they'll not only try to rip you off by selling you a bottle of red stripe for $5 USD but they'll all ask for tips as well. I'd skip this one !!!

Went to Trenchtown today and saw all the history not only from Bob Marley but many others who I didn't even know are from Trenchtown. Good people out there, nothing but Love and Respect. My guy who's nickname is "Blackie" showed me around and was full of knowledge. So much to see and interesting facts to learn about.

Good to see where Bob came into his own to do "big man thing". Conditions were very basic. They have done a good job preserving the site lots of photos to see. Suggest one goes with a tour guide as the neighborhood is still rough.

This place is a must visit for true reggae fans. This is where Bob Marley and many other reggae artists started out. Remember to bring cash with you because cards are not accepted. We did a tour of the yard with the lady who manages the place then toured the neighborhood with Blackie. It was humbling and sobering to see the living conditions of the residents of Trenchtown but very a insightful and informative tour. It was a wonderful opportunity to interact with the people of Jamaica and learn from them. After the tours we heard a few songs from a member of the band Livin Kulcha. We would have bought the CD but didn't bring enough cash. It was great to see where Bob and others came from and to learn about all the music history in this tiny town. Thanks for sharing with us

Oh man, TrenchTown! Do I really have to say something else? But of course! The historical background is best experienced there, but if I can say one thing, then this: I was really welcome there. I met very nice people. Link up! Especially in the Culture Yard you feel the Natural Mystic Blowing. You become the Jam. I've even been there a second time ... because of the people. After the third time in Kingston and the Culture Yard: This place is one of those places I would call a castle. From here you can explore and get to know Kingston very well, you get tips from locals and you can get escort and taxi there, but much more ... It is an oasis of peace,... jump on the vibes...

Really enjoyed the visit and history lessons. Bob Marley isn't the only focus of the tour. You will learn about all the legendary people that make Trench Town the historic site it is. The real stars are the locals that run the tours. They are able to explain the significance of the lyrics, the legends who helped create the legend and the family history of Bob. You can see his room. You can see his lifestyle.

This is the place to visit, if you want a deep insight into Bob Marley's childhood and humble beginnings. You can see the community yard where he spent his youth, and view the vehicle he loved dearly. Still home to locals, this is a vibrant neighborhood, filled with hard working locals, and bright eyed children, working towards a better tomorrow. As a tourist, when you walk into the gates of Marley's childhood dwelling within Trench Town, a hoard of local Jamaicans will herd you into an admin office, where the woman in charge will inform you of the ticket you *must* purchase, to even get into the yard and premises; this is despite all the hoards of local Jamaicans you will see just casually sauntering into the yard, and simply 'chilling' in the yard, and hanging around Marley's supposed cherished vehicle etc. She will inform you that the ticket will include a guided tour as well. Now,it appears that a company has taken over the money making aspect of Marley's chldhood dwellings; not unexpected in a developing nation, where there are no security measures to protect apparent original items such as Marley's vehicle (locals appear to sit in it and smoke all day, except to politely stand aside when a tourist shows up). And it is ok with tourists like myself. As long as the hardworking locals and guides such a *Blackie* and his partner guide ( a very sweet gentleman who is saving up for his daughter's nursing school) also benefit financially. So, when you are there as a tourist, and you purchase that ticket, make sure to ask the admin there if they are paying these locals well (because the guides live right there in Trench Town!). Your tip alone is most likely not adequate to help sustain these hardworking local guides. These are Marley's people....his community...his brothers...the ones he was fighting for; let's be mindful of supporting and honoring his community, as we enter his childhood dwelling with a tourist or fan's curiousity. Trench Town is still a very neglected and run down part of the city (local taxi and uber drivers are resistant to driving to that part of town, because it is not in the best shape). Marley would have wanted it to be in a better state, and wanted his childhood community to to be thriving. Let's do our part to look out for the people that the late Bob Marley was advocating for.

Home of the legend. A place that forces you to remember your past and yearn to see the preservation put in place for future generations. To put foot on this site makes you feel a part of history. Life is a gift and its what you do with the gift of life that tells a story. Endeavor to leave a legacy for the future whether nationally or internationally.

A must-see for locals and foreigners alike to understand the circumstances and inspiration behind so many talents- Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Vincent Ford etc, and experience life in Kingston's mid1900s inner cities. Cheapest tour starts at $800JMD or US$12 and lasts about an hour

This was a really unique and worthy experience. We opted for the full community tour option ($30 US per adult plus tip for the tour guide) and we were there about an hour and a half. The woman who runs the place seems really amazing and her son was an excellent tour guide. The community tour may vary depending on when you are there and what is going on. The tour of the museum/house felt a little rushed- there was tons of stuff to look at and I could have spent more time in each room. Bob Marleys mom’s house is only something you can see from the street not enter. I could go on about how valuable I think this experience would be for everyone…the community is very welcoming and the place really is open everyday as those who run it live right there. Just pull up and ask and they will get someone if the gate is closed. She also runs a hostel right there nearby as well if you are interested in really being immersed and welcomed into the community. I wish more neighborhoods all over the world would organize cultural history, community cooperative and immersion opportunities like this.

It was a unique view of Bob's early years a brought back memories of his songs that I used to listen to in my younger days. It also brought to life some of the lyrics in some of his records so dust off your old LPs and tapes and play them before you visit.

I did the full tour today with my family. This included a tour of where Bob lived, his mother's former house and a walk through the community. What a lovely experience! The tour guides were good especially Kash. The people in the community were warm & welcoming. We learnt a lot about the roots of reggae and where many of our famous Jamaican reggae artistes' started their musical career. Great experience 👏🏾👏🏾

We went there before going to Bob Marley museum. Definitely a good idea to understand where Bob comes from. Objectively the tour wasn‘t worth the money. The tour guide seemed really high and basically just read the text printed on the pictures. But for us as big reggae fans it was a great experience.

Not so much to see, but there's a statue of Bob Marley and some mural. You will see some good vibe rastafari bros, you can get some smoke there if you like. If you are driving your car, going around trenchtown will complete your cultural experience there.

This is where Marley started. It used to have a more informal feel and smell 😄, now, they charge $20 and don't allow photos. Shame but still worth a visit

Recently went here. Big ups for T and S for showing me around. Great to see the yard and how it ushers the community together. Also great to experience Bob Marleys beginning in Kingston and Rastafarian culture. The surrounding area is dope too as you get to see the famed walls. Ps - Trench town is pretty rough I suggest a good driver or a tour

Always worth a visit! It's a good lesson of the hardships of the common people in Kingston, if you go on a community tour. It's an interesting lesson, if you are reggaelover, to understand, from what the lyrics speak in the songs of Marley, Tosh and so many other talents from Trenchtown. It will open your heart ... Don't miss to visit the Trenchtown Reading Center, it is an important project for the communuty, especially for the kids and the youth. Respect, TTCY and TTRC.

This place pulsates with history, especially the history of Reggae music. You get the chance to stand inside Bob Marley's one-bed-room apartment, converted from what was the common kitchen in this former "tenement yard." This is a must-see tour for anyone who loves Reggae and seeks a deeper understanding of its origin.

Probably the best experience I've ever had at a museum. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. You learn a lot about Bob Marley. However the saying goes , Bob Marley didn't make Trench Town. Trench town made Bob Marley. You'll understand the amount of musical passion that came out of trench town. You'll understand so much more of the history behind many of Marley's lyrics. I would give this more than 5 stars, but I can't.

The roots of many Jamaican superstars, probably most notably, Bob Marley. The culture yard is a piece of history that was preserved in time. The tour gives an authentic feel of what it was like growing up in a Jamaican "government yard" in the 60s coming forward and highlight personalities that evolved from Trench Town.
