Went
to
see
a
recital
by
the
"Alpha
musical
community"
(?)
I
believe
is
the
term
they
go
by.
They
are
branched
off
from
the
legendary
Alpha
boys
home
which
is
popular
for
the
training
of
many
Jamaican
musicians
such
as
Don
Drummond,
Leroy
Smart
and
many
others
to
name
a
few.
The
home
was
closed
in
2014
but
they
have
a
music
school
which
also
accepts
women.
It
has
been
around
for
over
140
years!
The
premises
has
benefited
with
an
impressive
structural
upgrade
to
its
buildings
from
corporate
Jamaica
such
as
Digicel.
Other
vocations
apart
from
music
can
be
pursued
there.
The
performance
I
saw
last
night
was
done
by
a
cross
section
of
Jamaicans
who
formed
an
orchestra
to
perform
different
songs,
classical,
Jamaican
folk,
calypso
and
even
rock
n
roll.
The
musical
execution
itself
wasn't
bad,
could
be
tighter
in
my
opinion,
however
I
wouldn't
hold
it
against
them.
I
doubt
it
was
done
on
a
professional
basis.
The
community
gathering/conversations
afterwards
and
the
objective
of
knowing
what
the
performance
is
meant
to
achieve
made
up
for
everything.
As
at
this
date
mid
2023,
they
are
inviting
persons
who
are
musicians
to
join
their
ensemble.
They
should
be
having
another
performance
before
the
end
of
the
year.
I
wish
them
all
the
best.
