Second time waiting 4+ hours for a scheduled doc appointment here. Absolutely nothing special about this place. Save your time and money and go anywhere else.

This place is unethical and it’s sad because they see tourists as an opportunity to make more money. My husband heart was in distress and they told me in the emergency room that I need to give them $8,000 for him to be treated otherwise he will have to discharge himself or go to a public hospital and he might not been seen for up 3-4 days. Now they are reaching out looking for an additional $3,400 after been told my bill was zero. The craziest part the new bill has the same chargers but still they are requesting the additional money. I’m currently working with a lawyer. Even if my claim is covered with my insurance company I would not wish this on no one. They also said they don’t take my coverage and I’m now learning they should of taken the coverage because it was an emergency.

My girlfriend was in extreme pain when we arrived. I was not allowed back to the room with her at first (not explained why), and was not kept informed of what was going on. It took over an hour for her to be seen by a doctor, even though there were no other patients there at the time (4:30AM). I asked to be kept abreast of all charges prior to things being done- this was not done, and our bill ended up being twice what I would have expected. They charge for literally everything, including gloves used by the nurse and doctor. It took 5 (five!!!) hours to get results of a CBC and CMP (basic blood tests). This is unacceptable. This can be done easily in less than an hour in most US ERs. They were going to charge us over $2,000 for a CT scan. This is absolute price gouging. I am an ER doctor in the US and have traveled abroad widely. This is one of the worst hospitals I have ever seen, and I would never recommend it to anyone.

I visited your hospital on Monday, June 17, 2019 around 2:30 am due to a broken leg. After arriving there by car service the staff were not welcoming nor sensitive to my situation. I informed them of my injury and what caused it. The administrative staff in the front as well as the medical staff denied me any service until a payment was made. My husband explained to them that we are tourists and did not understand how policies and procedures work in Jamaica. He then asked them to explain why we could not get any type of professional opinion or prognosis, if there was no payment made. He expressed to the staff of our financial situation and told them that he doesn’t have the funds to pay for a surgery. He offered to give the staff his insurance information, social security number, home address, job address any type of information they’d could use to go through with my medical attention. He then asked if it would be possible to go to a different medical facility where it may be free or much cheaper. The staff refused to give him any information or answer any questions without a payment of $446.00 (USD). My husband had to borrow someone’s phone contact a family member and borrow money to cover the charge. Once he was ready to make the payment the staff told him they’d charge him $500 instead of the $446.00 previously mentioned. When he asked why, he was told the charge was to cover any other expenses I may incur. My husband stated that it made no sense and insisted he pay the $446 that was originally requested. A staff member in the area over heard and then commented that that’s for the medicine and bandages I already received. Once the payment of $500 was made the staff took me to get X-rayed and told me my leg was broken in two places. After being given a prognosis the staff member that processed the payment told my husband that he has refund. He followed the staff member and she then told him he has to pay an additional $1.61(USD). My husband asked for a receipt itemizing everything we were being charged for. Once we reviewed the receipt we saw that we were charged not only for the x-ray and consultation but for band-aids, gloves, alcohol pads and several other small items. We were told the X-Ray was $322 and the consultation was $140 but the receipt says otherwise. At this point we were completely confused, upset and angry. We asked what would the next step be to solve my medical problem and they told us I’d have to have surgery but that would be another payment. My husband demanded I be transferred to the public hospital because we had no more money. He was told they’d have to call an ambulance and he has to pay an additional $300 for me to be transported. The ambulance arrived and I was taken to Cornwall. My experience at your hospital was completely unprofessional and disgusting. Your staff are unethical, insensitive and rude. I myself have a small business so I understand that most businesses first goal is to make money, but it is my belief that when you’re in the medical field or any other field where you deal with people, customer satisfaction and being selfless is the priority and agenda. At one point I felt like I was a hostage because we were made to feel that if there was no payment made then I would not be released. The young lady at the desk made the comment “ At least you have insurance”. That was completely offensive. I feel like I was treated this way because of your staff's personal views of my country and what they think we are privileged to. I am the first to say we are not privileged! I work two jobs my husband at times works three. We work hard and saved to be able to take this vacation. For your staff to make a comment like that and not know me or my husband she has to be completely biased and prejudice of something she barely knows or understands. This experience has made me not want to ever come back to Jamaica, not bring my children here and recommend Jamaica as a place to anyone looking to travel. Natalie

My family and I have been going to Hospiten for years and I’ve never really had any complaints. My sister is epileptic and was having seizures that we’ve never seen before and her pills weren’t helping; her seizures were causing her to lose consciousness so we had to rush with her to the hospital. We went to Cornwall Regional in the emergency section. Porters were there but no one came to assist which caused an argument between myself and one of them. We waited and waited for a nurse to see us but the wait seemed eternal and nurses weren’t there. My sister was having seizure after seizure to the point that other persons in the emergency room thought my sister was going to die. I had to take my sister from there to Hospiten expeditiously. As soon as we arrived the porter came with the wheelchair in a hurry and I ran inside to register and immediately there was a doctor tending to her; putting oxygen mask on her. I am writing this review while emotional. Let’s just say that Hospiten saved my sister. My only hope is that the average Jamaican could afford the services because though it is pricey (international hospital) it seems like our best bet in the western region for emergency care. I want to say thank you to Heidi (front desk) for going above and beyond and for helping my mother with getting the ambulance for my sister after I had left.

Do not waste your time visiting here. You are better off going to the public hospital. The medical team lacks professionalism and they are more concerned about getting paid than the health and well-being of patients. I visited this hospital on a recent trip to the island believing I would have received better treatment than at the public hospital there. However, I was grossly disappointed of the unprofessional nature of the staff there. First of all, the doctors don't listen to patients, communicate poorly, make medical diagnosis and provide medications without lab tests or checks . (After returning to North America, my doc ordered lab work which showed that their diagnosis was incorrect). Then there is the additional incompetence that you'll have to put up with the rest of the staff, they quickly overcharge your card without ensuring of the correct amount then upon checkout they will tell you were overcharged and due for a refund. However, their POS machine don't do refunds so they request that you write your card details on paper in the year 2022 in Jamaica where scamming is at its all time high! Further, to add insult to injury a simple request as to not reveal your baby's gender cannot be followed. Let's not talk about the exorbitant fees they charge. Atleast if you are charging all that money ensure your staff is competent! I do not recommend this hospital. It is not worth your time or money!

It's all about money upfront - the nurse in the hotel refers you to this hotel - does not discuss any other options - gets you the taxi immediatly ! That's it once at the hospital money before assement which no one is allowed to sit in with the patient ! Nothing is carried out until more money - they say they struggle to get hold of insurers- there was one young lady that helped and had feeling the others were like robots ! Oh i could go on ! Reading the other reviews say the same !! See the nurse she starts the ball rolling- i wish I had researched the hospitals of the area before visiting.

The worst experience ever, better off going to a regular Gp if you can find one. The staff are rude and very ignorant. From the reception staff to the doctor's who seem to have very little knowledge or just choose to play dumb for the sake of more test. More tests = more money!! All they want is money and care zero about what the patient needs. The hotels need to stop sending their guests to this place as it seems like it's just one big scam from the taxi ride they suggest you urgently take from the hotel to the hospital to the huge bills they present you with once you get there despite having travel insurance. All in all it was one huge piss take and everybody involved needs a slap. I hope the incompetent idiots at the hospital read this too!!!!! Gwarn laugh or whatever you do at us tourists when you take our money. The almighty don't sleep!! Come to England if u can ever afford it and see how humans are supposed to be treated in a private hospital. Oh and stop using fake accounts to write these good fake reviews with 5 stars. Please note that these so called good reviews all have Spanish names đŸ€”. The people that own this company are Spanish!! Don't be fooled, this establishment may look good but is anything but, just one big scam. Anybody else who has wrote a five star review for these people, im guessing were naive or just very rich!! I noticed one man on here say he was air lifted to the UK. U dont even know u probably paid somebody's rent for 2 years from your misfortune.

$30,000 USD scam and you’ll be held as a hostage till they charge all your credit cards. be careful tourists this is not where you want to get sick, this hospital took advantage in every way they could, they charge your credit like they won the lottery. STAY AWAY we will try to tell our story on national news so they don’t get to keep doing it to tourists who work hard for their money and visit Jamaica and bring money to the country.

Most staff disrespectful to us, tourists. Our nurse was great though. Hospital wasn't busy and it took more than 5 hours to be seen. Meanwhile....Jamaican residents came in and left while we waited. It was clear that all staff were in a room laughing and having a good time while we waited for our xray results. Certainly not impressed. Don't think I'll travel to Jamaica again because of this. Oh and then they charged $50 for materials...what materials?

This place was recommended by the hotel and by my trip insurance carrier. THEY ARE A WASTE OF TIME!! The receptionist who checks you in is not courteous and will try to make you pay more, so pay attention. I also noticed they do have preferential treatment for the simple fact they charged the patient ahead of me $219.00 for their consultation and wanted me to pay $500. I refused and suffered consequences, by waiting almost four hours to seen and released. Meanwhile, the patient ahead was seen, treated and released within two hours or less. The doctor presents as if he was uncertain with what he doing. He had me skeptical due to he had no note pad or EMR for documentation. He also suggested for me to have unnecessary lab tests . I consented to one, paid $146.00 extra and provided my email for the results, which never came. I have been waiting over two weeks for laboratory results. On a positive note, their nursing staff is quite lovely. The nurse assigned to me did her best to make the situation better by apologizing for the lengthy delay.

For the past twenty years my husband and I have returned to Jamaica, his birthplace, to visit family and vacation. Once our son was born, he too, traveled yearly with us. A major concern that my husband always vocalized was the possibility of us experiencing a medical emergency while in Jamaica (due to his family’s experiences with the public hospitals). As fate would have it, before noon on our 3rd day at the resort I became ill and experienced excruciating pain in my right side and lower abdomen accompanied by ongoing vomiting episodes. The resort nurse examined me and determined that I needed to be transported to the ER by ambulance. Fortunately, she informed me that I could go to Montego Bay to the public hospital or a private hospital. We chose private; she asked if we had medical insurance; and we do. Upon arriving at Hospiten, the ambulance was met by an ER medical team and they quickly went into care mode. However, immediate care was short lived once an administration registrar entered my exam room. Her only concern was informing us that they were not partners with my insurance company and would not allow any diagnostic tests to be performed until full payment for the cost of ER services and ordered tests was received. My husband paid full cost and tests commenced. The specialist arrived and diagnosed my condition. He was knowledgeable and displayed concern as he explained my diagnosis and my need for emergency surgery. In the face of our shock, hesitancy, and scrambled questions, he was patient and determined to provide life saving care. Once again, in walks administration staff. She informed my husband of the cost for surgery and required full payment before any further care was given. Of course, we did not have the funds at the time, but my husband let her know which local financial institution he banks with and that he could get the money at opening hours if they would allow the surgery to happen that night. She informed him that that was not an option and offered to have me transferred to the public hospital for further care. That was completely out of the question. My husband practically begged her to trust that he had the funds and would pay the next morning if she would just make this allowance so that the surgical team could provide the needed emergency surgery. She remained steadfast in her requirement. As I continued to suffer in agonizing pain and vomiting at every move (add increased anxiety to that), the doctor did what he could to protect himself while also “doing no harm”; my husband began making phone calls; and after securing full payment (an amount far above monetary allowance for tourists), life saving care was provided. I am grateful that my experience with my medical team in the ER, my surgical team, and my ward nurses and care team far exceeded my expectations. My doctor remained in contact after I was discharged to assure that I was recovering without any complications. The hospital is clean and patient rooms are roomy and comfortable. However, never in my existence have I felt so devalued and disposable as a human being. I tremble to think of what would have been if my husband was not able to pay. My faith in humanity diminished greatly as a result of this experience (my reason for the 4 stars instead of 5).

Biggest scammers. They made my father pay 26000$ US dollars for 4 nights. They wouldn’t release him till we paid. The local police in Montegobay told us we got scammed by this hospital. Also come to find that my father did not need to be kept in the hospital. He went in for low oxygen and should have been released when his oxygen got back to normal according to the us doctors. Shame on this hospital. They squeezed 26,000$ out of us. But for sure I’m going fight it and make a lawsuit against them. Taking advantage of the tourists.

Great place to go if you want to die! If you're having a heart attack, and have full travel insurance, they will want at least $50,000.00 up front in $10,000.00 increments. They have some sort of deal with the ambulance drivers. They will lie to your face telling you that the only hospital is far away, when there are other hospitals much closer. The ambulance drivers will demand cash, even though you have full insurance coverage. They could care less if you live or die. They won't do a bloody thing to help you either. You will lie on a stretcher for days, while your heart gets more and more damaged. My advise is to do a little research into the hospitals in the area that you are visiting.

after arriving due to an emergency, the whole experience from start to finish was horrific! not only was the staff not attentive but they had no idea how to administer simple procedures. we were well insured on our holiday but the hospital had public relations do everything they could to take huge deposits prior to insurance companies being notified. i strongly advise people to stop going to jamaica for this main reason. there's no systems in place to protect tourist. to top it off you can't take a taxi less than 20 US dollars for a kilometre down the road. absolute anarchy at the Hospiten! its more of an assylum than a functioning hospital>I assure you that this organization is more corrupt than most cartels that exist in the drug trade. i cannot emphasis how bad the facility is run.

I went to the Hospiten as our resort nurses sent us there I am a chef and public health employee I had a simple bacteria infection from food that was undercooked the doctor told me I didn't know what I was talking about they admitted me did not start antibiotics or anything just left me in a room for 16hours then he said he wanted to start IV antibiotics and do a colonoscopy I said no I was already feeling better as it was well through my system and I was capable of taking the antibiotics by mouth he said he could not do this so I said I was going to call my doctor back home while he waited he then said I could sign myself out against his wishes which I did he finally agreed to give me oral antibiotics but said he shouldn't. In the 4.5hours from the time I said I was not staying they took away my water and everything they said I couldn't shower or have anything as I was a NPO whatever that means I understand they are a private facility and I have great insurance bbut 2948.$US for 18 hours of nothing being done is incredible mean while the resort nurses could have sent me to the public hospital which is closer to the resort and much nicer and helpful. I would only say don't go here unless you want them to get rich off your insurance company or own your house

I don't ever bother to leave reviews, but I was moved to do so after meeting Petring from Hopiten, Montego Bay. I heard a lot of rave reviews about this location, but sometime last year, I heard it wasn't the same. Apparently, there was a change of hands or some persons resigned or were replaced. Whatever the case, apparently service was not the same. So, with that in mind, I went for my first visit toward the end of 2021. For the most part, the experience was fine, except for two receptionists who chose to argue in front of guests. One of the two receptionists at the desk just seemed to have a bad attitude in general. I had a subsequent visit recently and witnessed a lot of deficiencies and ridiculousness. The same surly receptionist was, well, still surly. Another receptionist was complaining that she wasn't to be working where she was assigned and didn't want to be there. Another employee thought it was no big deal to relay a vulgar joke in front of a patient. One, apparently in management, thought it was fine to let his friend receive service ahead of those waiting. This and more would have made for a very unpleasant experience had it not been for the star of my visit, Lab Technician Petring. This young lady understood the meaning of customer service. My day would have been longer and quite stressful had it not been for her patience, intervention, and caring, and proactive approach to service. That kind of environment can take a toll, so, I hope management will invest in customer service training, hiring more persons so employees aren't so burdened and frustrated, and get the equipment needed. Many employees have to endure low remuneration and lack of recognition from management. Times are difficult, so it is critical to give acknowledgement where it is due. I give Hospiten three stars, really, to be generous and empathetic, and still, there were other employees who displayed excellence in service. I was very impressed with the security guards on both visits. However, the five stars are for Petring. I hope she receives the necessary support so she can continue to be a shining star.

    - [ ] On the early morning hours of April 24 while cruising on the Carnival Horizon, I developed a heart arrhythmia and went for medical services. The medical treatment I received on the ship was exemplary, and they felt that I was stable enough to be transported to Hospiten, which is the private hospital in Montego Bay. Hospiten has a cardiologist and the ability to perform an echocardiogram and a cardioversion. Upon arrival to Hospiten’s ER by ambulance, my husband was required to pay $600 USD by credit card before they would even examine me. After that, to have any services rendered, my husband had to pay in full by credit card before the service would be performed. The total was 1950 dollars that we paid.I had an echocardiogram done by the cardiologist, who indicated after the test that I had fluid around my heart, two leaky heart valves, and an ejection fraction of 41 percent (last echo in the states showed an ejection fraction of over 55
.which is normal). She stated that I needed to be admitted to the ICU. However, before they could admit me, we were told we had to pay another $8000 USD. We told them we no longer had that amount left on our credit card and did not have that money to pay at this time,as we had already put out quite a bit. They refused to admit me, unless I paid. They even asked if I had relatives that could send me money. I was able to get a hold of the doctor on the cruise ship, and he spent the rest of the day trying to get me transferred out by medflight to the states. Hospiten wanted me to go to the public hospital, which is deemed “the poor hospital,” and I said no that I was going to be med flighted out. They laughed and told me they would not give me the certification for the flight ICU team to take me. When I mentioned I was cleared to fly by the ship’s doctor, they said it was too bad because the Montego Bay airport was already closed. Little did they know, we had already handled that issue. They tried in every way to impede my needed care. They just wanted my money and did not want me to go back stateside. Thankfully, we had purchased travel insurance and, between the insurance company and the amazing Carnival cruise physician, an ICU team from Tampa Florida was arranged to fly to Jamaica, retrieve me from the hospital, and bring me to the states for emergency care. Once the flight team arrived, the hospital again tried to stop me from leaving. The hospital tried to get me to to sign out against medical advice, which i felt may result in travel insurance not covering the expenses. I told them I would not sign out AMA for two reasons
. - [ ] 1. They would not treat me because I had no more money on my credit card. This is it not me refusing care. This is them refusing to provide care. - [ ] 2. I was being transferred with an ICU flight team back to the states. As a nurse, I know that a transfer is not refusing care or signing out AMA. Because I refused to sign, they told me they would not release any of the medical records of what they did, even though we had paid for all services up front. We left on a med flight after midnight and arrived at Fort Lauderdale airport. I was taken by ambulance directly to Broward Medical Center. Within about an hour of arriving, I was cardioverted and admitted. Based on what the cardiologist in Jamaica had told me and because she had refused to release the records, they repeated the echo cardiogram. The echo was found to be normal. Makes one wonder, doesn’t it? My advice is that no one should go to Hospiten Hospital in Montego Bay. They just want your money, will not provide records of services performed, and are apparently untruthful when they discuss your results with you. Also, everyone should take out travel insurance. Trust me, you’ll want it if you ever need it.

All they wanted was money. We waited in the ER until 1AM before my husband was sent to the ICU because they wanted a guarantee letter of payment from the insurance at 1AM. As he was about to get transferred they stated I couldn’t stay with no one never told me I couldn’t stay if he was transferred to ICU so here it is 1AM trying to find a safe ride back to our resort which is 35-40 min away. They had an attitude and tried to blame it on them being nurses that they didn’t have time to tell us that along with the front desk staff stating that they had just asked if I had a ride. That does not equate to I can’t be here with my husband so for that after y’all harassed me about money when you know we had insurance I wish I could give 0 stars. . . Now I will say I would give the cardiologist and the ICU nurse and doctor a 5 star . They were very knowledgeable and explained everything that my husband was going through, which he was trying to figure out in the states. Our transport assistance was very nice and when we got in a regular room our nurse staff was nice as well .

I was admitted to Hospiten in May 2018 with 2 broken vertebrae in my neck after an accident. Everyone at the hospital were amazing, the doctors, nurses, administration staff, cleaners, cooks, everyone. I received first class treatment and was very impressed. Right up to the final minute prior to being air lifted home to the UK after four days the service didn’t waver. In the unlikely event of having an accident whilst on holiday in Jamaica, rest assured this hospital will look after you if needed.

Was forced to come here from a cruise ship secondary to the flu. Was immediately told we needed $20,000 in cash otherwise they were sending us to the "public" hospital. We had full travel insurance as well as health insurance. It was the worst 3 days of my life. The life flight EMT's were better than the people I saw.

My mother was admitted on four occasions The facility is brand new. The nursing staff are very helpful. The doctors are thorough and goal is to stabilize you and have you follow up with your primary physician. This facility provides short term treatment only. They charge based on whether you are a resident or a tourist. So when I compare to charges in the US and Jamaican resident Hospiten as a private hospital is very reasonable. My mother's last hospital visit was a repeat medical condition and we decided to take her to the public hospital to get to the bottom of the problem. Yes, in comparison everything is the opposite. There is one similarity and that is the doctors do a thorough job. So the big difference is the public hospital will keep you there untill your well or they have exhausted everything they know to do.

My resort’s nurse made arrangements for me to be seen here. I had travellers insurance so everything was directly billed to my insurance. I was in their care for a little over 7 hours and everything went so smoothly. Everyone, from my nurses, imaging technician and my doctor were amazing. I came in very bad shape but left feeling like i was going to be okay. Thanks to all the wonderful healthcare staff who made my experience pleasant and comfortable in a scary situation.

TOURIST TRAP - went in with a simple pneumonia after already being diagnosed by the hotel nurse. She send me to hospiten to get the prescription for antibiotics. At first the nurses and doctors came quickly (after having paid 500$ in advance), they said they had to do some more test and scans. After these scans were done it was 12:15 pm. The lab results would be in within the hour. After two and a half hours still no results. When the result finally came in and the doctor had finally checked them it was 4pm. And at that time they realised that they wanted to run some more blood test and that they couldn’t find the three tubes that they pulled earlier. These results would take 20minutes max. After another hour the results came back. But again we had to wait for the doctor to review these, then she wanted a second opinion from another doctor. This again took half an hour to 45min. Because during the day we kept asking what was taking so long she clearly wanted us out of there so she said the prescription was at the front desk. Off course there was no prescription and we again waited for more than a half hour. in total we paid for 3000 $us for a prescription for 10 tabs of antibiotics!!! The other necessary scan (1700$) didn’t show anything. Don’t go here as a tourist! If they ran me over in front of this hospital I still wouldn’t go back to this place!! In the end they also tried to make us pay another 1300$ because “they made a mistake”. The guy behind us was also given a higher bill “by accident”. This place is a joke, the staff (with the exception of the nurses) is an absolute joke. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Hospiten is a modern facility with all the necessary machinery for your health needs. The doctors are first rate. However, the administration is sorely lacking. Especially, the staff who interacts with customers on the front lines. They need training in CUSTOMER SERVICE and needs to have a sense of urgency when dealing with patients requests and well being.

Came in after a spinal Injury in Negril. Got two CT scans and stitches. They couldn't figure out how to transfer me onto the CT table so instead told me to move myself. While I was getting transferred from CT I started crying. The person pushing the stretched started fake crying and laughing at me. There was zero bedside manner from anyone working here, it was just about $$. Every 5 minutes my boyfriend came back in to tell me the additional charges they required. Left with a $2500 bill and an $850 ambulance ride. These charges were discussed with a Jamaican nurse in the states who told me her mom had cancer surgery for the same price. These charges will be brought to the attention of the ministry of health and the us embassy. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Totally agree with a comment below that classifies this place as “tourist trap, money grab machine”. Stayed 3 hours there with severe dehydration and nothing was given to me (even water they didn’t have at the reception and I was told that I could only get water once my registration is done (even though I said many times I was dehydrated) and I get inside my bed which took easily 40 min. Fortunately a very nice lady from the ambulance team saw that I was very bad and got me water after at least 30 min arriving there. When I finally got inside (after asking repeatedly to the reception to start the treatment), my husband was still talking to the insurance and they refused to give me any treatment (even the vein hydration for a severe dehydrated person) until the insurance was approved. Even though they had my husbands credit card which he asked to use to start the treatment so not to wait for insurance to reply. Then, after 3 hours there with NO treatment, I was told by a nurse that they were waiting the insurance to give me treatment (even hydration). So I decided to leave because I was 3 hours there already getting more dehydrated by the minute and clearly I wasn’t even close to get any treatment from that hospital. So I left so I could at least eat as I ate nothing the whole day, buy some pain medication and coconut water to hydrate myself and treat my pain which the hospital was clearly denying to me. PS: I was the ONLY patient at emergency waiting room. Another lady got in 30 min after I arrived and my registration was still not done. Imagine if they were full
. And to finalize with a cherry on top, they put in my discharge report (that they wanted me to sign and I signed crossing out all the parts that were not true, including a statement that “ it was given the following treatments to the patient: iv access, blood investigation, stool culture, IV saline fluids, including Gravol, Baralgin, nexium and urine dipstick”. NOTHING of those were given or performed on me. They were most probably going to claim those to my insurance if I didn’t crossed those out. All I really got was a doctor to see me for less than 5 min and a bottle of water (only after BEGGING in pain for both). This hospital priority is to make money out of you, not to care for those who needs (even if you leave your credit card with them. But they want to make sure insurance approves as any patient could have not enough funds in their cards for them to exploit. Staff is nice but useless as they are probably following a process established by their management that has as priority to exploit people’s most vulnerable moments, not caring for them.

Horrendous! Sent here by the RIU Montego Bay resort when my daughter stepped on a sting ray and got the barb stuck in her foot while wading on the beach. The registars were nice, but certainly wanted their money. Very quick with estimates and the credit card machine. The nursing staff in the ED and on "the ward" are terrible. Poor attitudes, poor skills, and no concern for anyone. We were there for hours. No pain meds. Forever to see the doctor and even longer for an xray. They told us the barb needed to be removed in the OR (cha-ching). And that she had to be admitted to have surgery. The surgeon and anesthesiologist were there pretty quick, but then 4 more hours to get to the OR. They moved her to a room on the ward only to tell us that only 1 of us could stay with her and the other would have to leave (umm and go where? We are all in bathing suits, came in a cab, be for real). They kicked her dad and friend out. Over an hour later they finally took her to the OR. Less than 60 minutes later, back in the room. Then they want to say she has to stay until tomorrow afternoon?? For what? This is a same day procedure at best. The surgeon still has not come to talk to us, we asked to leave but they refuse to give us the papers or the superbill we will need to recoup the $18,000 they charged our credit cards. So we are sitting here prisoners of the facility. She has asked to leave and they literally said no. This feels illegal.

Writing a review after hearing that this Hospital has the “Reputation” of forcing cash out of pts in dire need of emergency care
before undertaking ANY treatment. Regardless if it’s life saving or not. Unfortunately the reality of the world is such that Scum tends to infect medical establishments too. What surprised me the most was that the latest Victims of this so called hospital’s “cough up or die outside” modus operandi
were British tourists. British tourists who are “active payers” of a proactive National Healthcare Service, that has NEVER neglected the life-saving needs of Jamaicans, who over the years have found themselves needing urgent care
while visiting the U.K. Have witnessed multiple episodes where excellent LIFE-SAVING care, was provided to many dying visitors to the U.K. & NEVER, NOT ONCE were they or any family members threatened to be Kicked out of any hospital
if they didn’t pay upfront first! Although the above mentioned so called hospital, is a private establishment they’re operating within Jamaica’s sovereign territory. Meaning they’ve been given the Right by the Jamaican Government to tarnish Jamaica’s friendly, kind-hearted reputation
while making profitable gains. It’s not a secret that Jamaica needs the gains that Tourism brings to their beautiful islands
but how can they allow this Hospital, risk their vital tourist friendly reputation ?!?

Good customer service, the gastrointestinal doctor is friendly and nice, patiently listens. offer quality explanation off diagnosis, medications and procedures to be done . Even though appointment was not done on time the waiting to see the doctor was not too long , waiting was about 30minutes, and I was surprised of the sharp increase of medical fees over last year. I do believe they need to offer more imagine services like MRI, here in Montego only one place offer such a service privately, it will be easier for their patients if a MRI was added there services.

Are you a hospital or a bank! Shame on you to try and make money out of everything. You charge even for a plaster and probably water!! for treatment. How come you can take the $600 upfront but you can not give the credit back after the treatment. You know it is the same machine that you use for charging can give a credit and none of that 14 days for our account department. Who you think you are fooling? Doctor and nurses were good but also felt the wanted to suggest and unnecessary injection just to pile up the cost.

On October 18, 2022, I was highly recommended to go to ER by the hotel staff. Upon arrIval I was greeted by the rudest set of receptionist and supervisor who cared more about collecting money rather than my health. They asked for room number etc. I was asked to contact the insurance for my services myself instead of the hospital reaching out to the insurance company. Waiting hours to be told that I need to pay for the gloves gown the nurses had on to serve me. Thank God my illness was not life threatening. But I must say the nurses are very pleasant and made sure I was comfortable.

I had no problem what so ever, Got back my results the same day, what better service could I ask for? EXCEPT FOR THIS I have done my Medical for the cruise ship from August 5, 2022. I have called and email to get on update if the results are been sent over to the designated personnel, but I got no update. Each time I called the Cruise ship medical line no one picks up. I have to choose another extension then they transfer me, yet still again their is no one for me to talk to. I emailed numerous times still no answer. Do y'all email address even work? Can you'll check your emails for Christ sake??? What is going on, I really expected better from this facility. Please to check your emails and reach back out to me. Thanks

I normally don't write reviews, but I thought it was worth writing one about my appointment with Dr. Casamajor (Neurologist). She has a very kind personality and gave me the feeling to be taken seriously and to be understood. She took time to listen to me and wasn't rushing through the appointment at all. I went to quite a few doctors in my life but she was special because she was so professional but yet so emphatic. I felt relieved after I left her office because I felt like I am in good hands. Thank you!!

This place has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in Jamaica. STAY AWAY. Took my brother-in-law there on 30th December for doctor's visit and antigen COVID test (he was unwell) - 2.5hr total time spent to get 5min time of an incompetent doctor and 30 hours later and several angry phone calls he STILL doesn't have his test results. And that's the test that you get within 15min in MDLink or anywhere else on the island. Ridiculous and horrible.

I had the misfortune of having to visit this establishment with a minor illness whilst on vacation in Jamaica. This is by far one of the slowest, most inefficient ER departments I’ve ever been to and my day to day job is that of an ER doctor in a publicly funded health care system where I deal with multiples of more patients and significantly less staff. The length of time you wait to see a clinician is farcical yet they only have SEVEN cubicles to deal with. As with previous reviews they won’t even look in your direction until they know the name of your insurer or until you’ve handed over your credit card details which in fairness isn’t all that surprising given it’s a private hospital. All in all I hope I never have to visit here again. Wasted an entire day of my vacation here and only managed to leave when I did because I stood at the reception desk and refused to move until I got my discharge papers. They’d do well the employ a doctor from the public system then they might understand how to work at a reasonable pace that doesn’t leave patients languishing waiting for basic care.

So, this hospital is clearly ill-equipped to treat patients. The doc I saw was fabulous. He explained everything to me and made me feel heard, but the staff is incompetent. People unable to do a proper IV, I was stuck twice. Went downstairs for contrast CT and it didn't work because the IV was done incorrectly. What in the world? Staff speaking Spanish while treating me as though we're not in the same room. Bathroom dirty. Dirty gloves in the hallway. Lights off in hallways. Then have the nerve to make me feel like I can't pay by acosting me with a bill prior to treatment. I came in with bad shortness of breath thinking I am going to die and was told if I don't want to pay, I have to go elsewhere. I already traveled here from the hotel by taxi. Ridiculous. After a few thousand dollars out of pocket, I should have contacted my on-call pulmonologist back in the U.S. for an appointment. This is not healthcare at its finest. This is about money. Do better!!!

Please please train your staff on how to be polite and courteous to patients and their families. I was today faced with the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune to meet! She should be in a profession where compassion is NOT a requirement!

I saw the tourist reviews of it being a tourist trap, so I was really scared about taking my wife. However I do not feel this was my trip. The staff was very friendly and my wife and her nurse bonded. Dr. James was kind and seemed intelligent. The cost is what it is. Out of pocket Medical care can be surprising. But for $3000 with all the tests that were ran, seemed fair.

Tourist trap money grab!! Americans beware!! The actual doctors and specialists were good, some nurses were okay. Communication, other than when speaking to the doctors, was terrible. Care is adequate but they dont do anything regarding insurance. They will do nothing until paid in full and I mean nothing. My wife sat in a hallway with a dislocated knee until the initial $1,500 charge cleared once we got in the door. $12,000 more and 8 hours later they put her out and reset it. They left her in extreme pain the entire time refusing to give her enough pain medication to make her at least mildly comfortable despite our many requests.

My mom suffered a stroke whilst on holiday and suddenly, she developed skin damage in TWO (2) places. At Hospiten is just an overpriced hotel with doctors & a few lovely nurses they underpay & treat like servants. So, we have TWO choices, DO NOT visit Jamaica or get your pocket emptied by Hospiten. My mom, a STROKE pt had to get out of bed without NONSLIP socks because Hospiten had NONE so pt SAFETY is NOT their concern. My mom was never given a call light/bell and though I put it on, NOBODY came to the room so she could've fallen and nobody would show up. The same washcloth that each other patients who may have herpes, they use to wash others. The lady I spoke with told me, "This is Jamaica." I would have thought patient SAFETY and patient CARE is the same worldwide. I would have thought that customer service is customer service anywhere in the world and Nursing is nursing worldwide. Why is Jamaica's book different? They collect US$2500 WEEKLY yet patients do not have BASIC things? Such depravity ought not to be tolerated! Jamaicans ought to stand up & take their country back for everybody comes, bleeds the little island and leave them in poverty. They take pride in claiming Hospiten is a PRIVATE hospital but all they care about is money. I asked if I could stay overnight in my mom's PRIVATE room already paid for and was told I have to pay $90 to stay on the sofa, no blanket, no shower, nothing. There are no oral swabs for patients. They use tongue depressors with gauze. Discrimination is obvious because pale skinned nurses are on the ICU and dark skin nurses on the ward. The ICU looks just like the ward. HOSPITEN is NOT WORTH IT! It would be excellent if they had the supplies but they don't invest in things that make patients satisfied, just their pockets.

I unfortunately ended up here during our vacation to Jamaica. I went in for a kidney stone that blocked my ureter and had surgery there. They dipped the catheter in alcohol both times I needed it. They had no pumps for their IV bags which resulting in me gaining 30 pounds of water weight in 3 days. No sympathy or pain meds. The fluid was too much for my heart to pump and I left AMA. (againt medical advice) to fly back to US with my family In a wheelchair. I got home and was admitted as a healthy 45 year old runner in heart failure. If I had stayed there I am convinced they would have killed me. I experienced all the same things others are saying about wanting money before hand but the reality is that is just how the Jamaican health care system works. My advice if you go to Jamaica- but travelers insurance- it’s worth it. My bill was over $25,000

I did a procedure at hospiten back in June, despite doing the consultation from in February. Anyways, I had not heard from them in over a month even tho I was informed I would’ve gotten a date for the next 2 weeks. Fast forward to June, they called about the procedure, they kept mentioning another procedure I kept saying that is not the procedure, why do you keep saying that, the front desk person let me know it is the correct procedure the one I was referring to falls under that procedure. So I said fine (still skeptical) but I assumed maybe their hospital policies were different. Fast forward again to 3 days before procedure they sent prep instructions to my email to get items that I had to purchase to cleanse my body. Still unsure but I purchased said items. Now on the day before the procedure they called about insurance and I asked them why do you keep saying that procedure when I have stomach issues not lower GI issues, the person said “stomach”, I said yes. She transferred me to the doctor who confirmed the procedure I was schedule for was incorrect and I should discontinue all the meds they gave me to prep. Now I was annoyed because if I didn’t have knowledge in the medical field they would’ve done the wrong procedure. I informed them they need to reimburse me for the expenses and they completely ignored me, gave me a lot of run around and NOBODY apologized. They were unprofessional and I didn’t care to go there to begin with so that experience made it even worse. The medical staff was great but the front desk needs some training, they are blatantly rude. I was away so I didn’t push the issue further but the review I was still going to do. Maybe if my color was light and hair blonde I would’ve been dealt with better by the front desk, who knows, but I would never go back. The situation could’ve been way more serious and they could’ve killed me but everyone turned a blind eye.

I had a great experience at Hospiten in Montego Bay, while visiting Jamaica from the US. I fell and got a concussion and stitches at my resort by the resort doctor, and needed to get a CT scan to rule out further damage as I was having short-term memory issues. So we drove roughly 80 minutes from Negril to Montego Bay to go to the Hospiten ER as they had the closest CT machine. The receptionist (Barbara) was very courteous and attentive. They did require a deposit payment in advance and then refunded us the unused remainder afterwards. We were lucky in that it was not busy at all when we arrived and so we were seen very quickly - within about 15 minutes and that was mainly just us completing the paperwork and deposit payment. I saw Dr. Clarke who was helpful, patient and a pleasure. I got a CT scan which thankfully was clear. The whole process including checking, evaluation, CT scan, reading the results, and discharge was maybe 1.5 to 2 hours on a Saturday night. I felt good about the whole process and all people involved.

I have been calling since April to ensure that I had an appointment date for the Cruise ship Medical
..every time I was assured that someone will get back to me it’s 30th of May and no one has called I called again only to be greeted with hostility and told to wait for someone to call me

(Translated by Google) In Rick's Café de Negril I did the typical cliff jumping and everything was fine (I recommend it), but coming out of the water I hit a rock and I got a small wound. Days later that little wound was much larger and apparently infected. I arrived at Hospiten and they treated me first, they cleaned and disinfected the wound that was quite ugly. (Translated by Google) They treated me very well! There was a doctor who spoke Spanish, I don't speak much English, so it came amazing. In the end the 'luck' of having a purulent tonsillitis IN JAMAICA. The heat and the air conditioning played against me (Original) Me atendieron muy bien! Había un un doctor que hablaba castellano, no manejo mucho el inglés, así que vino increíble. Al final la 'suerte' de tener una amigdalitis purulenta EN JAMAICA. El calor y el aire acondicionado me jugaron en contra
