I keep trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and not use one bad experience to broad brush paint this venture. Nonetheless, I’ve been there multiple times and every time I go there the service gets worst and worst. The food is good but they take forever to serve you, never have the correct items on the menu, the cashiers have zero customer service, and the phone lines? Don’t bother try calling you probably won’t get to them.

In addition to delicious food, great service and upscale, cozy atmosphere, they had the cutest picture perfect backdrop on the patio. A great space for your picture tek moments:) Put this one on your to do list when you are in Kingston.

This is the breakfast spot. Home cooked, fresh, clean and courteous staff. Update March 2022: food is still amazing. When you go to dine in for breakfast, ask for Sharon. She will make your experience amazing. 🙌🏽

We went here for breakfast. I order brown stew fish but they didn"t have any. I switched it to brown stew chicken with Boil dumpling and banana. The food was cold. The dumpling was hard to cut that my fork fall and some of the stew mess up my skirt. The banana I also didn't like as it was tasteless. I wanted natural drink so I took the cherry drink. It was tasteless and the ginger over power the taste. I had yo add sugar to it. The salt fish fritters I couldn't taste the salt fish. Men cannot wear sleeveless shirt. My BF had to purchase one of their shirts in order to enter. Also they bought watermelon for everyone (all females) except my BF after we asked. We were made aware of a video with singer Popcaan and watermelon from the friends we were with.

While the food and customer service are excellent, if you would like to eat Jamaican breakfast you need to get there early around 8am Jamaican breakfast go fast! Also, parking is tight.

Finally made it to Sonia's. Thanks to Wayne and Tami (lol). The food serving was just the right amount. The stewed pork was delicious as was the fried chicken. The natural juices we had (sorrel, juneplum) were refreshing and not overly sweet. We will be back for sure 💯😎

This restaurant came in highly recommended from a friend of mine. I heard only good things. Went in for lunch and decided to dine. We were greeted warmly and shown to our seats. We did sit long before our orders were taken. I ordered some soup and the stew peas along with some fried chicken. The soup was served nice and hot, which I enjoyed. Soup gets a 7/10. Next was the stew peas, this is actually my favorite food to have so I had high expectations. The stew peas was good but I wanted a little more from it, 6.5/10, the fried chicken was really good. Was served the chicken breast and I was surprised by how juicy it was. Chicken gets an 8.5/10. The customer service was amazing, our waiter was funny and respectful and helped us choose and pair some stuff from the menu.

It was my first time ordering from Sonias. As a visitor, I liked to call first. Unfortunately I didn't get through on any of their 6 numbers they have posted on their website. Anyway, I order the oxtail online, which then it says the order will be ready in 30mins. I arrive 45 minutes later and they said the food is not ready yet. This will be fine, but when asked for an ETA, the response was "We don't know." How can a menu item be available for purchase if it is not even available to order yet, and worse - why not give a time for it to be available? I ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes for mediocre oxtail. I can't say what I recommend or what I don't recommend. But their organization needs to be fixed. You shouldn't be allowed to order something that's not ready. If that's the case, a call should be made to the customer to notify them of the delay. I will be making a video about this later but I had to make this review.

After seeing Wayne and Tami Mitchell go to Sonia’s several times on their YouTube channel, I decided to give the place a try. It did not disappoint. I had the take-out stew pork and is was AMAZING! I plan to go back to try more dishes. I did the online ordering which did not seem to get me through any quicker as I still had to wait with everyone else in the lineup to pay. Next time I would probably just order when I arrive. The stew pork, regular size was about $950 JMD. You can eat in or take out and I see delivery is an option online as well.

Took my baby here for dinner and we absolutely loved it. The food was excellent and the waiters were even better! The dining area felt really fancy yet it felt like home at the same time. the service was great, I wish I could have tipped all the waiters, the food was good but the waiters also deserve the highlight, they made us feel welcomed beyond belief.

I like their curbside pickup system where you place your order online and pickup. I ordered pork chops with rice & peas, raw vegetables and potato salad. The price was good at $1580 and the serving size was reasonable plus they added a piece of plantain to my order. However, the pork chops weren't as soft as I hoped for and I wished it was prepared in a different way like grilled with barbeque sauce. Also, it makes no sense calling their phone lines because they don't answer.

I'm a little disappointed in the food. Took a little while to get the food only to be disappointed. The lunch/ take out section was good on my previous, though.

Recently I visited Sonia’s and dined there for lunch. Sonia’s still delivers authentic Jamaican dishes. The decor and ambiance is great. The colors of the Jamaican flag can be seen draped on the walls , so you get the Jamaican vibe and the gold drapery delivers a royal feel. Great music is played , not too loud so a great conversation can be had or meeting held . The staff is wonderful . What recently occurred to me though is that it would be nice if they had menus with the meals offered along with the price ,either paper menus or the ones you scan with your phone at the dining tables . Not sure if it just wasn’t offered that day . Some form of menu with the cost of meals , some guidelines should be available for customers dining in . Overall still a great experience !

Prepare to wait if you don't order ahead. Early morning the breakfast menu isn't available so I'm not sure why they even open if they have nothing to offer. The food is consistently good but the wait is just a turn of. Sometimes when calling in you can't get anyone though guess they just don't have enough staff to facilitate the volume of calls they have but overall good spot to get breakfast lunch and dinner when you dine on the weekends after hours

Dining is always good. Servers are very attentive and friendly. Food is very good. Value for money. Try them for some good old fashioned Jamaican food. The take out section needs a bit of work. Staff isn't always pleasant and they often don't update the board as they should, when items are sold out. They take a while to answer the phone also for take out orders.

There is no doubt that the food at Sonia's is a hit. However, the customer service leaves much to be desired. At my last visit, there were several disgruntled patrons, some who had waited over 30 minutes on their meals. This is not typically my experience there, however the staff's response and attitude on this occasion left a lasting impression. Definitely give Miss Sonia a try if in Kingston, and you can dine in since the eating area has reopened. Just ensure you have enough time on your hands in case there is a long delay. Hopefully they would have learnt from what happened last week and improved.

20 minutes before seeing a waiter only to be told we had just missed breakfast. Then the waiter said the menu was in his head bit he didn't know rhe meal costs so had to go and check. We didn't stay. The food smelled REALLY good though. We were too hungry to wait any longer. The extra star is for the smell.

My go to place after church on Sundays. Though we always miss the breakfast period, we are never disappointed with the lunches available. Sumptuous, filling, very affordable. The staff are so courteous and professional. Ambience clean, relaxing not like some restaurants where the places are messy and loud. I love the many little sections they have for dining... the restaurant could be full but it doesn't feel that way as there are many sections. These are very suitable if you want to go with a group of friends, spaces that seats between 8-12 or larger depending on the size but each semi-secluded. There is also a dining room for private events.

The best part about Sonia's is not only the consistency in service of their staff but that same consistency in the care and preparation of the food . You go to Sonia's because your taste buds crave the food , well guess what that feeling in your mouth, and that sense in your mind for your favorite dish well you will never be let down . You sit , you are happy and after you eat you are satisfied with the meal as the desire for this dish is met in your tongue, belly and mind . A pleasure to support a fully Jamaican business with the best that Jamaica has to offer in food . Favorites fried chicken, curry goat , any soup made and of course the fried dumplings and fritters in the mornings will keep you coming back with cravings. One more thing, coffee served in your own pot ;) Love this place !

The wait was long and it was a little crowded, but it was worth it, the staff was friendly and helpful. The food speaks for itself. Next time I will call well in advance or try and get delivery but again the food is great and they have some nice natural juices and I believe they make shakes as well.

  • 3/5 Tanya G. 1 year ago on Google
The food was excellent but the service and long wait was lacking. It appeared that the persons cashing and at the front did not know what was available. A server could not say if the last slice of red velvet cake was already sold. Persons who had paid for curried goat were being told it was finished when they were to be served.

  • 5/5 Grace W. 1 year ago on Google
My friend bought one oxtail and one curried goat meal for us to split..I took the goat because why not (gimmie mutton over oxtail any day)? 🤦🏾‍♀️😏after taking the 1st bite of the tender, juicy...not too spicy...not too salty curried mutton, I almost didn't want to share with my friend 😑. I quickly ruled against being mean because I wanted some of the oxtail. The meat feel off the bone and melted in my mouth. Let's just say Sonia's has found the formula for making awesome curried goat and oxtail. Definitely check them out.

Wow! Service, food and atmosphere were top tier. Highly recommend, 10/10. We stopped by for breakfast, I had the callaloo and kidney with boiled food. (May 2023 the cost was $1000 JA or $7 USD). It tasted freshly made and was delicious! Ill be back for certain. Customer service was superb. Note, they close around 5pm daily.

I read the google reviews and they seemed pretty good so we went to this restaurant for breakfast. We were greet with an attitude at 8am by the lady at the front. Apparently there is no menu for breakfast so we had to listen to our server read out a list of food and have to quickly order right after he read us the list. The food was just ok. It was cold but the dumplings were good. The restaurant really need to have a manner training for their staffs. I’m sure there are better restaurants to go to that treat you with respect.

When I crave authentic Jamaican home-cooked meals, I always head over to Sonia's. For anyone traveling to Jamaica and seeking a taste of real Jamaican cuisine, I wholeheartedly recommend Sonia's. It's not just because the food is consistently well-made, but also because it captures the true essence of Jamaican flavors. Sonia has a remarkable talent for balancing sweet and savory elements in her dishes, creating the perfect umami experience every time. The rice and peas are cooked to perfection, with rich seasoning that's anything but half-hearted. You can genuinely feel the love and care put into each dish, and while it may be priced a bit higher than some places, it's worth every penny. I wish more local restaurants cooked with the same passion and dedication that Sonia does, as it truly feels like she's cooking for her loved ones with every meal.

Unfortunately I ate the food and completely forgot photos. The Bar-B-Que chicken is lovely, I took my time with it, as for the curry goat lets just say it made the rain fall !!!! Oxtail is delicious and even the pudding! Its so weird that I have never been to the location, not yet at least. Order by phone can be rather irritating as you will need to call several times before getting an answer, order early in the morning if you're able. Sonia’s Homestyle Cooking & Natural Juices was recommended to my stomach by Mendez Livingstone Inc.

I was introduced to Sonia's when they operated at my work canteen. The food has always been very well prepared and delicious. Jamaican breakfast and lunch served here. Of late, I've been visiting their main location. It's usually packed and wait time can be a bit lengthy, price is also a little higher than the average (Breakfast $600 - $800+, Lunch $800+). They have introduced curbside pickup and online ordering since Covid19. This makes the process quicker and easier.

I had breakfast about a month ago and it was awesome! I decided to have lunch today. I called Lorna's Catering and thought I called Sonia's. I came to collect my lunch only to be told that there was no order for me! I even told the staff that I believe they sold my lunch and tore-up my order. I left upset and disappointed. When I got back and related the experience, my wife told me I called Lorna's instead of Sonia's. I called to apologize but the phone ran unanswered. So I am using this means to apologize. Thanks for your great food.
