A very busy square, absolutely cool. Here you truly feel the Jamaican vibe. There is a lot of traffic and you a lot of merchants and that is exactly what that irony which I so love about Jamaica: Easy going and relaxed, but on one hand very very busy :) It’s best to visit the square of season and when no cruise ship is here, only so you truly experience it,

The town needs some upgrade, perhaps a tax on visiting cruise ships and spent on local infrastructure, make a city more walkable, perhaps a pedestrianized street or two, and a promenade linking harbour to Hip Strip. I know these are expensive projects but I have a feeling Mobay is dying rather than developing. Would be a shame, it's got such a potential!

The square is ok. It's a bit stuck into the whole town, maybe if it stands out more as a representative of the real history of the square and the valuable memories held there. It is right next to the Montego Bay Cultural Center and just on the the side of St James Street. The area could be a little park in the middle of the town, if we wanna talk about having a vision. #makemobaygreat. Thanks for reading.

Interesting square. Historic representation, completely surrounded by urban growth, including the heavily armed Police presence. We were parked next to it for ten minutes while our guild went for Juicy Patties for our group to taste.

Very strong culture with a mix of History. Many shops and other businesses in the square, from Banks to bakeries. Traffic is slow-moving in the afternoons, especially on the weekends. Huge crows of people communing through the square; mostly coming from work. Few little tourists are seen in this area. Fruits vendors can be seen on a few of the corners, also street food charts. There's also the presence of the security force that patrols the area which keeps the peace and gives a safe environment.

Sam Sharpe Square is a renowned area of Montego Bay Centre in recognition of Sam Sharpe. Sam Sharpe was an instrumental of the Slave Rebellion of 1831, which led in part of bringing an end of slavery in Jamaica. Sam Sharpe is a very small square surrounded by the bustling downtown Montego Bay workers, cars and street vendors, he is a national hero of Jamaica. Next to his statue holding the Bible and speaking to his people is the Cage which used to be a jail for runaway slaves which is now a Jamaican food outlet. It’s a place of historical value as the courthouse overlooking the square is where he was tried and executed, so is a place to reflect on the rich history of Jamaica and Slavery

If you had gone to Sam Sharpe Square last year, this year is better because it was upgraded a little (60%) the waterfalls and few business places that surrounded it.. Everybody walk, run, ride, drive on it. For tourists attraction, there is a little section there were the heroes of Jamaica hosted. Once you book your tour, apparently, that's how you will get a tour guide, and they will tell you how it all went. There is also a museum in the Square, 🍔Burger King, pharmacy, ATM (bank), that visitors would have wanted, and other Jamaican stuff. See for yourself.

Historically significant square in the heart of Montego Bay. Met Elvis Scott, a Montego Bay City Guide, here by chance. He gave us a fantastic tour of the historic sights in the area free of charge, which was very informative and pleasant!

Cultural experience. We visited the National Gallery West and did a self-guided tour of the museum and other exhibits. It was well worth it. Very informative, especially the bits on the history of Montego Bay! There was a banking promotion taking place in the Square at the moment. It was fun to watch choreographed dancing to local music. The square itself was a bit crowded and somewhat disorganized, probably intimidating to a non-local, but there was no actual threat.

The "main square" if you can even call it that. A museum on one side, and a couple banks with ATMs on the other. In between are people going to work and children going to school.

Sam Sharpe Square is located in the heart of the second city, Montego bay city. Its the heart of the busy city and the only part of montego bay that never sleeps; with the exception of the recent pandemic. But now that we no longer have a curfew the city has regained its wonderous glory. You can find the civic center the beautiful fountain and busy pedestrians hustling about their daily lifes. In the heart of the square you will see the momentum of our late national hero Sir Samuel Sharpe along with four other statues and a board explaining his impact on our history. You will find several businesses in the square with the top one's being scotia bank, burger king, popeyes, pharmacy, civic center, museum along with supermarkets local clothes stores and street side venders. It was originally named Charles Square, but was later renamed in honor of Sam Sharpe, a Jamaican National hero, and anti-slavery activist. The main attraction to the area is the monument, commemorating the struggles faced by Sam Sharpe. Despite the busy town in the evening you can find hundreds of Jamaicans standing in the square in small groups or alone making small talk or just chilling or relaxing to pass the time and it has seen an increase with the new free internet

I never buy souvenirs from the Hip Strip, I always go downtown. If you decide to do so, have a Guide or someone familiar with the area.. Remember safety first but I’ve been to 🇯🇲 some many times, I know it like the back of my hand. But it’s ALWAYS SAFETY FIRST MON ✌🏽

Usually dirty and congested with traffic with people. The fountain was renovated and looks great but the rest of the things make it a place to just pass through and not sit and enjoy. Expect to see the really big rats and alot of garbage littered everywhere.

It's the middle if the town. There's a cultural center that you can visit to learn about Sam Sharpe, one of Jamaica's national hero. Aside from that there's local spots to shop. Parking is on the opposite side of the square behind the cultural center. Not sure if an appointment is needed before you visit.

This is an open space with a busy thoroughfare passing through it. Some may say it is the heart of Montego Bay and is rich with historic buildings and artefacts. Sam Sharpe Square houses the statue of national hero Sam Sharpe and hence the name. Sam Sharpe Square is home to a museum which displays artifacts from our rich history.
