I'm ashamed to say that I stayed at this place a couple years ago as a last resort for an event and it was disgusting. I'm surprised it's still open because it should be condemned and shut down. One last thing don't take those five star reviews seriously they're probably a bunch of people with bogus accounts who work there or are friends of the people that work there because this place is like a crack house. About the only thing convenient was the location but I would have rather slept in my car if I had a chance to do it over again.

    - BEDBUGS (several dozen bites all over the body). - cockroaches. - clogged sink. - no bed linen. only a dirty bedspread and two pillows. Very rude manager who did not return a refundable deposit. They took a $42 deposit from the card, returned $40 in cash. It's only $2, but you don't want to leave even 1 cent here. It's better to sleep outside!

It's the most basic of your basic accommodations. A place to sleep and store the luggage, at a great price (stayed four nights here for the cost of one anywhere else this close to the French Quarter.) Friendly staff. Clean enough. Free parking. Paid the deposit, got it back. Was surprisingly quiet and far less shady overall than I expected from other reviews. Awesome location - short walk to most of the places I frequent when in town. Area isn't any more dangerous than anywhere else in the city (your results may vary, basic street smarts apply.) For the price/location I'd stay here again without hesitation. ***Update - and I have! Still dig it.

Yelp it. I would not have paid $40 a night for a room here if it was on the moon. Whoever owns this property knows they are ripping people off because of the proximity to the French quarter. Disgustingly unmaintained, falsely advertised. This is a trap house wanting to be a hotel managed by a people hating bed bug. Don't believe me though... go see for yourself.

They try to set people up with lies. The rooms smell like pesticides or chemical for insects. The air conditioners are tampered and opened. Black marks all over walls have no clue what it is. Charged $100 plus a $40 deposit didn't want to give me refund. So decided to call the police for no reason. The whole hotel smelled terrible. Looks not it not clean needs to be inspected by the state.

If you are reading reviews and coming across some 5 stars and thinking, "Maybe it isn't so bad..." You are wrong. Watch Another Dirty Room for in depth details and reasons as to why the hotel as a whole needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt with a staff that actually cleans and keeps up on maintenance and repairs. A nice staff doesn't make staying in a massive health hazard worth it. If you're looking for a cheaper and cleaner/safer place, might I suggest prison?

Not safe! Not clean! Not what you would ever want! They do not stand behind their word and hide behind the no refund policy to take advantage of the customers. They rub in the economy as a cover for their lack of cleanliness and safety. My smoke detector was hidden under a dirty mattress, and a broken box spring. I sat on it and almost needed help getting up because it broke on me. There was a wet used washcloth hanging on the shower curtain. They didn’t offer a refund! They should get inspected by the fire marshall, OSHA should be informed!!!

The hotel is generally in a poor state of repair and the rooms are very disappointing - cracked walls, plastic on the mattress, missing skirting boards, bathroom door that didn't close. There is also a lingering smokey smell. I am not opposed to cheap hotels that offer no frills, but I do think the owner should care more. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a basic level of maintenance. Despite this, the air conditioning worked well, we were never disturbed and the shower was nice and hot. The staff were a credit to the hotel. All of them were incredibly friendly and attentive and they made us feel welcome from the first second, even if the room didn't. Even though the location is excellent, I would not recommend staying here.

I've stayed there many, many times when I worked for Delta Queen Steamboat Company. It is not ideal for most, but you have to remember New Orleans doesn't sleep. They are a 24 hour city and you pretty much looking for a place to shower, sleep and store your luggage. Very basic rooms, but that is all you need. Because you will not be sitting around doing nothing in NOLA!!! Miss you, someday I'll be back..

Here currently and it is awesome! It is a no-frills place but AC works and bed and shower are nice. I have walked back and forth from Bourbon Street twice today and paid a quarter of the price. Not to mention, front staff are very friendly. Stay here if you want a close place and don't want to spend a fortune.

This not a resort, the person behind the counter was annoyed that I got a room there and after getting the rooms wish I would have left. The rooms had no soap or towels, I had to go back to yhe entrance and ask for the soap and towels from the annoyed counter person.

My stay at the Empress Hotel was so peaceful! Their free parking lot right near the hotel is a big plus. The location is perfect. I took my service dog (rottweiler) with me and they gave me no problems and no extra charges!!! The staff were so helpful and professional! I'll definitely be back for my next trip!!!

Very old and ruggedly place . People are nice but the building is old, ac does not blow cold air , very uncomfortable and ne small bed. Overall, not acceptable at all . I checked out within hours. And I was partially refundable for my money for a hotel that should not have existed . I would not recommend this hotel to anyone visiting.

Empress Hotel is as clean as cleanliness is to God and I mean that you are literally in heaven if cleanliness and Empress has anything to do with it !!! Everything is professional from clerks to housekeepers, for the price and the area ( French Quarter 2 blocks ) , you could get a very safe and pleasant stay at the Empress.... guarantee !!!

I would never go back to the empress. The front desk was rude in the rooms were nothing like I expected them, they were very small dingy and dirty. My feet were black on the bottom. For the price that they were charging I would have never expected the slum that I got

This is only good for sleeping. If you're going to spend time in your room, go somewhere else. It's a tiny room. Stayed 3 nights, on the 2nd night, I had a visit from a cockaroach, and after that, nothing. I think having the ac on in the afternoon kept them away. You'll have to ask for new towels every time too. I didn't have much water pressure in the sink, but I did everything in the shower. Would have given this place a 3 star if not for the cockaroach.

I like the design of the hotel. It’s great. It’s about 4 star hotel. They don’t trip on anything that u do. It’s going to get way better. I enjoyed my stay , I recommend this to any couples that just need a night or week to lay there head ❀️❀️❀️❀️

Fantastic location, beautiful neighborhood, amazing price, friendly staff, and coffee. The room was basic, but clean. Can't wait to come back.

The rooms were not great, but the manager was great.

  • 2/5 Michael B. 4 years ago on Google
Extremely convenient location with lacking amenities. The shower didn't have cold water so it was either the temperature of lava or the temperature of a hot spring. There is no room phone, no fan, no bathroom fan, and the rooms are in desperate need of cosmetic upkeep. You are not allowed to take your key with you when you leave so be aware! However, the location is fantastic and a near fair trade for the price.

We think quaint and special .the balcony is nice and the folks are nice people , the rooms are ok if you just need sleep and shower. It's best to stay with friends if you have any . .it's really a friends place not too good for those who like money oriented places .

Worst hotel I've ever seen. Had roaches. Had mold in the bedframe. The air-conditioning didn't work. When I went to sleep I woke up to a rat on my back. Honestly a traumatic experience. Hope this place gets shut down. Called owner and she doesn't even check the rooms to make sure employees do their jobs.

Awful all around. Went in with low hopes but gave it a shot because I'm familiar with Treme, and was disgusted still. Staff was frazzled (but nice) when I showed up with a reservation and presumably no record of my booking. My room door would not shut all the way, making locking difficult. Missing and broken tiles everywhere on the floor and bathroom walls. Bathroom sink dripped incessantly. Toilet wasn't attached to the floor and the flooring around it was mostly deteriorated away. The A/C wouldn't blow cool air and the power cable was visibly cut in half and VERY poorly spliced together. The smell was atrocious - urine, cigarettes, and pesticides. Everything was filthy and riddled with bugs and mouse droppings. The fitted sheet on the bed was covered in plastic and had bed bugs. The most frustrating thing is I was nothing but respectful and I won't see a penny back after only being in the room for a few minutes. Embarrassed that I thought it was worth checking out without reading more. The place needs to be shut down.

Living and working in vegas, you would think you've seen it all. I'm not a picky person. I don't complain coming from a hospitality industry. But I was on a budget and thought this would have been fine. But this is the worst place I have even stayed in. The front desk agents were understanding. But the room was beyond filthy. The fact that you have to ask for toilet paper should tell you enough about the hotel. Not only is the place completely out dated, but the shower had missing knobs, the shower curtain was falling apart, the comforter had cigarette burn marks. 2 roaches came across my feet. I can go on. I was scared to even sit on the bed. The location was shady as heck as well. This place should be condemned and closed permanently!
