Bathurst Base Hospital: Emergency Department

Emergency room

😠 Absolute joke, was there for 5 hours before walking out for a serious problem. People with a twisted ankle came in after me and were out the door before I was even seen. Will go to a doctor's surgery tomorrow and see someone professional. Really need to do something, absolute joke

My husband was brought in by ambulance with severe cut to his leg, the ambulance driver bandaged his leg and the we had to wait in the waiting room. Two people after us came in and one had something in his eye. When I asked why we were still waiting and was told that because the ambulance driver bandaged his leg he was OK to wait. Unbelievable!!!

I was referred to Emergency by a local GP due to severe swelling in my throat. I could still breathe alright but swallowing was extremely painful and I had tonsillitis. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, getting my details promptly and providing painkillers which helped hugely. Despite two ambulances having just come in and a dozen or more other people waiting, they were quick to have me seen. The initial doctor who saw me was wonderful, taking very detailed notes and explaining everything clearly. He was with me through the whole experience, prepping a blood test for my CT scan, keeping me up to date, and ultimately writing up the discharge referral once I'd had a minor procedure performed. Thank you very much, Karanjot! Another special mention goes to the lady (I'm afraid I forgot her name) who helps with the CT scan. She is an angel. I felt so very safe and well cared for, and she genuinely cared about me as a person. A beautifully warm and loving soul. The whole event had me there from around 11 am until 6 pm but I never felt like I was waiting too long at any one time. The staff in the waiting room were always helpful, and I especially enjoyed seeing the way they cared for any sick children who came in, giving them their full joyful energy to keep them calm and their choice of coloured zooper dooper ice lolly as a treat. The chairs are comfortable and there's a couple of sweet recliners in one corner which made my day. My overall experience was positive and I am very grateful for all the staff working in Emergency at Bathurst Base Hospital.

My husband went to emergency Sunday afternoon. He was assessed, examined, had a lot of tests done, was kept informed every 15-20 minutes of the progress and was discharged 6 hours later. Staff were all friendly, observant and made us both feel important. The young doctor was informative, explained everything well and was not afraid to say she would get advice. If we need hospital I would rather drive to Bathurst for great care and attention

I took my partner in as he was ill from the moment we stepped into the emergency department we were treated with compassion and empathy. I cannot express how wonderful all the staff were towards us from clerical, nurses and doctors. Thank you so much for looking after my partner. You really do a great job!! Thank you so very much 🙏

They don't know how to treat people who need urgent emergencies. They act like there is nothing wrong and just take their time. There is a freaking emergency to take care of. Why don't you act urgently?
