This place is the ultimate tourist trap. It looks nothing like MacLarens, has very little HIMYM paraphernalia, and the drinks are subpar and uber expensive. Dont waste your time like we did!! I am a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother and was so excited to check it out. From the outside, it didn't look anything like MacLarens. But I held out hope. We walked in to a blast of hot air. Their AC was broken and it had to be 100 degrees inside. We tried to grab a seat but were told since we were only drinking, we had to sit at the bar. We tried to grab some seats but were told they were "reserved" for someone else. The staff seemed to not care that we were forced to stand awkwardly in the corner while there were countless empty tables. After about 5 minutes, we finally got the bartenders attention. She didn't make eye contact, didn't greet us, and barely said a word. It took forever to get our drinks (she stopped several times to take care of other "regular" customers). She came back with the drinks and again, didn't say a word to us. Just grabbed our card and then served yet another customer before coming back with my card. At this point I was fed up and decided to not leave a tip. The drinks were $14 each after all. We finally managed to grab a seat at the bar and we're trying to enjoy our overpriced drinks. At this point the bartender (who hadn't said a word to us) walked up and asked " were you not happy with the service?". I shrugged, and she proceeding to berate me for not leaving a tip. I kid you not. We finished our sugary drinks as quickly as we could and left. It was the most disappointing experience of our trip. I really don't get how they pass themselves off as the HIMYM bar. They barely had any photos or props and the place looked nothing like the bar in the show. Overall, I recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

Great Irish Pub and references to “How I Met Your Mother” since the creators of the show would come here every day to eat lunch and write. Ate here for lunch the day after Christmas. Food was great and drinks were good. Try the Bangers and Mash (see the photo)! TVs with sports, we watched the Liverpool match so that gets points from me as well! Definitely coming back next time I’m in New York. Good location to Times Square and Broadway. Nice bar area and an upstairs area for seating as well.

These things make you feel connected but other than that there is nothing special. I don’t recommend to spend any one on food. I tried Wings and Calamari, not the best I had. Likewise I ordered Naked Man and the Barney’s Blackout. The server charged us 20% gratuity for people of 2. I don’t if this is normal around here. Overall, one time visit is okay.

The food and beers are really good and the prices are reasonable. If you go in with the right expectation and grab a scotch and soda or one of the specialty HIMYM-themed drinks, you’ll be happy. The service isn’t too great (probably used to mostly serving tourists) and they aren’t super accommodating to off-menu drinks (it’s an Irish pub and not a craft cocktail bar, after all). I am a big fan of the "How I met your Mother" show so I had to visit this bar which was not built after the series but it was the original inspiration for the MacLaren(the fictional bar in the show). I went with my expectations very low, just to enjoy the HIMYM motive but the drinks and the food were awesome too!

The people working at McGee's Pub are very gentle and caring. The atmosphere of the pub is nice and welcoming. However, it can easily become too crowded.

Quite a good place with reasonable food, nothing special though. We also found it a little pricey for what we had. Service was really good and everyone was great. If you not sure where to go and you are not far away this could be an option but maybe not number 1. Has a good vibe to it and a good bar.

Mediocre at best. Don't come here expecting anything wow. The host, waitress, and barman were all very rude. The barman did not even say hello....it was early eve and a quiet night. In all fairness, I did not try the food, so I cant comment on that. I left and had dinner around the corner. @Owner... Being friendly is not a difficult skill...try and teach your staff please. I hope the rest of you have a better experience than I had.

I have zero complaints, service was excellent, the most welcoming and friendly staff all around, my waitress a lovely blonde lady was superb, she went above and beyond to check on me and help me... the food oh my goodness so I had the nachos and they were divine, freshly made tortilla chips, a huge portion for the price, and so nicely put together, layered with alot of care... the vibe of the pub itself is brilliant, three floors of different music for a different feel... I sat on the first floor, oddly by the toilet I realised at the end of my meal, but I happily watched the interactions from the staff throughout my meal... in my time in new york, this is the most at home I've felt, the staff truly care and its so cosy and comfortable... I have not tipped yet while here as I don't believe in tipping for the sake of tipping but these guys have one and a huge thankyou. I recommend here whole heartedly and when I return to new york I will be returning!!

I was staying across the street from McGee’s on a recent trip to Manhattan. I kept admiring the pub from afar and thinking to myself that it looked like the quintessential Irish pub. My family needed takeout for an early dinner for the kids, and I asked the front desk who they recommended. They said they ordered takeout from McGee’s all the time. We checked out the menu and there was something to make everyone happy, even the pickiest of children. We called, ordered, and they had the food ready in fifteen minutes…just as promised. The inside of the pub was just as inviting as the outside and I wish I had more time in the city! Oh, how I wanted to come back in for a drink later! And, yes, they do serve wine because I did ask. The staff was very friendly and helpful and even gave me directions to the nearest store. At any rate, my family ordered the Mac ‘n Cheese, Shepherd’s Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, Chef Salad, and Bangers ‘n Mash. No one was disappointed, kid or adult. I can’t wait to get back there for a night out so that I can have that drink and a sit down meal. Sláinte!

Well, this is the spot for HIMYM fans! Soak up the memorabilia on the walls and enjoy some food. Their in-house beer, and signature burgers are very good. What a great spot with good food. With inflation going on a tear, the prices were not too bad.

I m fan of “How I Met your mother” so wanted to see what was about this place that the group always was meeting up in this bar. We were seated in booth. Ordered cocktail- the naked man and veggie nachos. It was overall a good experience. There was a baseball game going on and a-lot of people were cheering and stuff.

We really liked the christmas decorations and the atmosphere. We didn‘t felt like this was a complete himym experience but that’s okay (just as an information for the himym fans: I think you shouldn’t have too high expectations on that). The fries were yummy and the waitress friendly.

All in all, the food was okay. I liked my buffalo chicken wrap. Mom liked her fish and chips also. However gluten intolerant mother in law did not care for her Shepard's pie. We are from MN and AZ so we didn't know that people don't like splitting the bill. We asked to split and without any explanation, she said "No". My Barney drink was also just okay.

Whenever we are in the neighborhood we have to stop into McGee's Pub. We were able to be seated immediately in a booth, the pub was busy as usual but that doesn't seem to slow down the servers here. I prefer the Sheppard's pie here, it is the best I have had yet. The Sheppard's pie consists of fresh ground beef, carrots and peas covered in a wonderful homemade grave, completely surrounded by fresh mashed potatoes. It is a very flavorful and filling meal. The food was phenomenal. The atmosphere was great, the service was excellent, had no issues what so ever. The wait time for food was only 16 minutes 😋. Calamari was very tasteful,crunchy and well was cooked to perfection. The artichoke spinach dip was tasty sweet an cheesy, the chips it came with was nice crisp. The burgers flavorful. Great atmosphere overall good food decently priced.

This was a fun place to visit if you like “How I Met Your Mother” tv series. Although the show was not filmed here it was the inspiration for the setting of the show. We had show inspired drinks. I have the Robin Sparkle, yummy Crown Royal apple pucker and cranberry juice. My daughter had Don’t Drink Tequila.
