This place was super cool if you like history. My head was turning in all directions just looking at all of the history. Every room is amazing and you feel like George Washington is going to come around the corner. We only stopped in for a drink and a snack. We mostly wanted to see the place. We tried the scotch egg and it was probably one of the best I’ve tried. Usually they are kind of dry but this one was moist, cooked well and had a great flavor. Our server was better than most NY servers we’ve experienced on our trip. She actually talked to us, made good recommendations and returned to see how we were doing. She even told us they have live music and we should come back. Overall it was a nice experience and I bet it would be a fun place to hangout if I were a local.

What a place full of history! to say that George Washington was there! We had the opportunity to spend one. Christmas Eve at this place and we really enjoyed it. special mention for the oysters which were very good! I highly recommend this warm place

Pretty historic place this Fraunces Tavern. Washington used to come here with his friends and commanders. We went there with our friends! It was a nice experience. The service was great and the food and drinks were amazing. The vibe was excellent. The restaurant gets very busy so we recommend booking early. If you want to hangout with close friends or want to impress someone you should consider this place. I would definitely visit this place again!

A tavern with lots of history, come check this place out. Love the way it’s left as if we are still in the Washington days. The selection of beer here is gigantic, the booze it’s all over! The ambiance was just right… The service is good, the waitress was helpful and friendly. The food was good. I will come back here again to keep trying the beers they offer. Clean spot, come check it out!

Ambiance and character abound. Great music, great depth in the drink menu. The staff was attentive but not pushy. They were uniformly polite and authentic. I was underwhelmed by the food. My Ruben was so so. The fries with truffles were amazing, but the Mac and cheese was simply boring. Go for the music, go for the drinks, go for great service. I would not go out of my way for the food.

An awesome historical experience with fantastic food. Lots of seating- no reservation needed for us even on a holiday. Great menu too- a little pricey but expected.

Where else can you dine, wine and have a great time with your friends and family amongst so much history. Every time I come here I marinate in the nostalgia of American History. An extremely under appreciated venue. Regardless this place is the gift that just keeps on giving - amazing line up of Beers and Whiskey. Great good food. Huge place and an awesome venue. Play the impresario here with your friends, will strongly advise to look up the history of the building first. What a place to drink in the museum of American History

I came here because I love historical restaurants and they are hard to find in NYC! This is the cutest historic inn. I only got a very light lunch but was still excited to check it out! Service was great and we were in and out quickly, which is what we wanted. They have a diverse menu and an awesome beer list, if you’re into that! Highly recommend.

Honestly, I loved just about everything about Fraunces. The history alone is incredible, but I really wasn't expecting the food and experience to be so fantastic. I had my first Scotch egg which was delicious. We had the fish and chips (fries) and a rustic spicy chorizo sandwich. We also tried the Truffle Parmesan Fries which were outstanding. They had a live jazz quartet that sounded amazing and, quite frankly, jazz is not my favorite. We went because of the connection to Alexander Hamilton, but I'd return for the food and atmosphere alone!

Steeped in history and conveniently located in the heart of Wall Street, Fraunces Tavern is worth a visit for the atmosphere alone. The dining area has quite a lot of character and the food is alright, if a bit pricy for what you get. 2 apps and 2 mains quickly added up. Service is quick and good. Their bar area had quite the selection and was very lively. Overall, I’d probably recommend this place more for a drink than for dinner.

My wife, myself and another couple had the pleasure of having dinner and drinks at Fraunces Tavern in the piano bar section on Thursday September 29, 2022. The atmosphere was magical and as a history major I was thrilled to be in the building. Our food was delicious and the drinks were perfect. The pianist accepted requests and she and her sister were fantastic!!! They sounded like they had just left a Broadway stage or a recording studio. Based on our experience, I strongly recommend going for dinner, drinks and enjoy being in a historic site that dates back to before our nation was born.

An institution, the historic Fraunces Tavern continues to offer great customer service and delicious, well-made food. We asked the waitstaff for recommendations and each recommendation worked out perfectly for our group. The food tastes great and the experience feels unique.

I am a huge fan of history and this Tavern exemplifies that experience. George Washington himself once graced the floors. On top of that the food and drinks were excellent. Was very pleased with the service as well.

Fun place full of history in the museum upstairs. Great food and cocktails as well as a huge craft beer list. Hidden Jen downtown.

We went to Fraunces for our anniversary dinner, and we were not disappointed. The building itself was decorated for Christmas, and the food was fantastic. Our server seemed a little new, but we had a pleasant evening enjoying each others' company and the food. I got the salmon, my husband got the short rib pie, and we shared a plate of the fried cauliflower. Definitely going to be on our repeat list in the future!

The restaurant is a magical place. There's all these books to dine privately or dine at the chefs table. The food was spectacular and make sure to come early so you can check out the museum upstairs. The staff are warm and friendly and make you feel like royalty. I would recommend for dates, corp meetings and family get togethers.

Just…wow! Love the atmosphere! Tried clam chowder, served with WWBread, and a fun cocktail. Excellent service. Loved the candles & wood. Great spot to get out of the rain.

Service the day we went was less than average. Not sure what was going on with the reception staff or the waiters, but there was more than just the "normal" NYC attitude during lunch service. Food was pretty good and the local craft beer and non-alcoholic sodas were great. Bartenders were very friendly and attentive to needs. Ambiance was very nice and cozy.

I'd give more stars for the service and atmosphere if I could. What a gem of a place! Take time to walk around inside and explore. So much to see. Loved our bartender. Here in the States from Ireland for only 4 months. He was funny, saucy and a lot of fun.

What a beautiful slice of New York and our founding fathers history! Love that they have kept many original potions of the structure and decor intact. Don't do too much renovating as it can detract from the historically vibe. Ie: the ceiling in the dining room doesn't fit the era. Great menus items. Also reasonably priced. Our charcuterie board was perfect! Thank you for sharing our American history!

This is a really cool establishment. Very old vibes - this is a bar/ restaurant/ museum. The architecture is classic American architecture - the place doesn’t opened in 1700s!!! Good selection of beers and the food is pretty decent… staff was nice and friendly.

We loved this place so much we went a couple more times just for drinks while we were in town. Cool spot if you're into history. Vibe inside is cool with a lot to take in. There is also a museum upstairs (for a small fee), but if you just want a souvenir from the museum just walk up to the entrance for free. Food was great and the beer selection was good. There was live music on one of our visits which was nice and we could still hear well enough to have a convo. We will definitely suggest this to friends who visit NYC and will visit again if we're ever back in town.

Must see (and must eat) place in Manhattan. The oldest functioning taverns of the city that manages to serve great food. Highly recommend fish and chips and salads, especially the one with feta and watermelons. In general the food is very very good. Only one time I was slightly disappointed (by Scots eggs, a little too greasy). Drinks are good too, especially simple Gin Gimlet.

Everything was so delicious. We had the Pot Pie, Fish and Chips, and Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque. We followed that up with the Stocky Tofie Pudding. Everything was so delicious. My only beef was that they did not give a Military Discount - even on Veterans Day. Definitely recommend this tavern but they could step up to the plate and honor those who served in such a historic venue.

Beautiful old tavern, the food is out of this world, the staff is amazing, the place is packed! Have a Founding Fathers experience, get some fish and chips, chicken pot pie, sticky toffee pudding. The museum is upstairs, the restaurant is in 2 separate rooms and there is a bar in 2 other spaces. It feels like the place keeps going on forever. Seems like a lot of locals get together there, too. Good meeting place for bigger groups if you have a reservation. We were just 2, so got a table right away. When the weather is nice, there is outdoor seating too. I know everyone is short staffed and with so many patrons, it's tough to stay on top of bathroom trouble but these guys get on it if you let them know. Not their fault, there were some heavy drinkers, clogged a couple sinks in the cramped ladies room. C'mon people, be decent.

We were lucky and got a free table without a reservation. A really nice atmosphere with very courteous service. The drinks and the snack we ordered were very good. We can recommend it and we would be happy to come back on our next visit to New York.

I had an incredible experience here. I ordered a charcuterie board and a beer. Because the selection is vast, I asked the waitress to pick my board and beer. She asked me some questions, and she HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK!!! I wish that I could remember her name. Fraunces, please give that gal a raise! She was amazing!

Wonderful food, large portions. The service was the one bummer. It took over 10 minutes for the server to greet us (@4pm) and slow tonrefil drinks. It was not a busy time. We were in a section just off from the bar and music, so I do not know if he had tables in other areas.

Kudos to them for making it easy for a Vegan to get a main entree. Yes, there's only one, but at least it's clearly obvious which is the only dish you can get, it's right there on the menu singled out from the 12 other entrees, in its own category. We don't have to hunt and scour the menu trying to figure out what's vegan, what's got hidden dairy, etc. The Asian Stir Fry was delicious! I highly recommend it. I wasn't the only vegan in our group of 20 people, so at least 3 others had to order it as well and they all loved it. Since we had a very large group, our waitress worked really hard to get everyone their drinks and apps quickly and she was right on top of it. No mistakes and was super friendly and informative. Had a great time here and am hoping they add a few more vegan mains to their menu.

Everything was great, but we had to wait over 15 minutes to get seated despite the fact that we had a reservation and came around the time of our reservation. Also the waiter forgot to bring us our desert so we waited like 25 minutes for it before we had to remind him that it was part of the 3 course menu. Other than that excellent atmosphere and great food - especially their plate of different meats and cheeses.

Great historical tavern going back to George Washington, hidden in a tourist destination. Looks both historic and corporate, with bars dedicated to whiskey and bourbon, but not showcasing anything interesting (buffalo trace?). Griping over, they had Southern Tier Pumking on draft, the only pumpkin beer I like. Awaome atmosphere, great service.

Very interesting place indeed. Rooms have so much going on that you can spend hours just looking around. Neat whiskey room. Food was fairly good. Service was great. Purple mashed potatoes with pistachios were very good.

Excellent customer service. Our waitress was very smiley and friendly all the time. I was a bit hesitant in the beginning to order Salmon in a bar, but this was incredibly tasty! Very flavorful; the purée was perfect! Great vibe, a bit loud, but there are other areas inside of the Tavern where it is more private and less noise. Highly recommend this place!

Historical lunch stop. Traditional decor, standard lunch fair. Wait staff seemed a little understaffed. Had a lunch reservation, arrived early and they were able to seat us. Bar area has a fireplace with a library feel, well stocked with rare, expensive whiskey and other liquors. Neat tourist stop.

Really lovely food, and a very nice restaurant. The lack of welcome from the bar staff (I went there instead of the restaurant) was a disappointing first impression... But I found our way to the restaurant and had a very nice meal. Good quality food. Decor was really festive. Lots of choice so good for dietary restrictions

Great historic building. George Washington had many meetings in the building. Beer selection was huge. We had fish n chips with mushy peas. Fish was good n crunchy. Normally I don't eat peas but these had a decent flavor. Highly recommend a stop here. There is also a museum on the premises.

The food was average and slightly over priced in my opinion. The atmosphere was fun and historical. I would recommend going for the museum and maybe a midday drink, but not much more. Ordered the oyster special (1 pint of oyster stout + 3 oysters for $14) which was by far the best value on their menu.

I have visited the site previously for its museum upstairs (Worth the time & money). This time, I went here for a bon voyage party. They had very attentive service, great beer on tap (I had an IPA) and the salads are delicious! I ordered the arugula and pear salad. Next time I drop by, I’ll try to aim for happy hour.

Very cozy and the history makes it better. George Washington has toasted here before. Lovely spot to hang out for a bit and have drinks.

  • 3/5 Alice M. 2 years ago on Google
For being a highly-rated historical place, I was pretty disappointed. There is so much potential to turn this place into an incredible tavern, but instead it felt more like a cheap bar with trashy pop music (I don’t think George Washington would be too keen on this) and below average drinks.

  • 5/5 Shari E. 2 years ago on Google
This historic tavern and restaurant has great drinks, food and staff. A friend I went with raved the bison burger she ordered was the best burger she had ever had anywhere. Drinks are NYC prices but great, generous and well crafted. The staff are wonderful, friendly and attentive. Food is truly worth the trip. Can't wait to go again. Glad it survived the pandemic. Historical figures like Washington, Hamilton and Burr once frequented this NYC gem.

One of the oldest buildings in the city. Oldest tavern/restaurant. Excellent food and juicy porkchop. Nice staff but not all. Reserve for a better experience. There's a museum upstairs that you can visit.

This was a way out of the way trek from downtown but a fun find. (Convenient from the Staten Island Ferry into Manhattan or on the return from Lady Liberty.) A place that served as George Washington’s HQ for negotiating with King George. The chowder was light, chunky and spectacular, the filet was under salted but perfectly tender —better than over salted , and the rowdy history was profound!

  • 5/5 Gina S. 2 years ago on Google
This was a cool place. Food was delicious. The Salmon salad with champagne dressing was amazing. Tavern burger was excellent. Large size portion. Reuben sandwich was so delicious. The roast beef had an incredible flavor. Drinks were good with a great variety. The fact that the tavern has been open since 1762 is wild!!

I was pretty excited to try out Fraunces based on the online reviews and high praise from friends, but it just was not up to par with my expectations. I do think a lot of it stems from the fact they were only offering outdoor dining when I went, but I think that would only take away from the historic ambiance. The food was not great, was fine, just wasn’t anything too special. The drinks though were strong and exactly what I wanted. I definitely would love to go back to give it another go with indoor seating and see if the vibe adds more to my experience!

  • 5/5 Tee B. 2 years ago on Google
What a great place. They have outdoor dining so we were able to bring our puppy. I had the clam chowder, and chilean sea bass, it was delicious. The staff was friendly. Can you believe that GW ate here!! Some amazing history here.

This is always one of our favorite haunts when we are in NYC! The aesthetic of the tavern and the history are just so amazing. The drinks are yummy and strong and the raw oysters are always delicious. If you don’t have this on your list of places to visit… definitely add it!

We booked ahead for a Friday evening dinner when visiting New York. We were fortunate to get a nice window seat in the dining area for two. The ambiance was "good to loud", with maybe a few other guests slightly louder than necessary but we were fortunate to not be seated next to them. Service was fine, but if we're honest it was sometimes a little disjointed, seemed the waiters were spread a little thin sometimes. The food though was brilliant, and we were very impressed and pleased with our choices. For this reason alone, we'd return when we are next in NYC.

  • 5/5 Jordan H. 1 year ago on Google
We had Saturday evening drinks in the piano room upstairs. The vibe was incomparable to anywhere else I've been. Absolutely amazing bar with great live music going on upstairs and downstairs as well as a ton of history all packed into one spot. The Negroni was also one of the best I've had. PS: the Upper Lounge was minimum $30 spend on your tab. (Around the price of two drinks)

It was an absolute honor enjoying a drink and meal inside an establishment frequented by the father of our country, George Washington. You can really experience the rich history of a great city and country with each passing breath, and not just through its candle-lit dining rooms.

We had a great first time at Fraunces Tavern! Good live music and a fun time in the bar area. Kayla is a one of a kind bar tender who took great care of us. Thanks for making some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had!!! You made our night and hope we made yours!

You can't do better in FiDi, period. Especially if you love Irish whiskey. They always have a Midleton on offer. Very rare, even in Manhattan. Historic, surprisingly spacious, steeped in legendary stories. I love this place. Updated to add: had my first meal here and it was awesome! A great fish and chips dinner, with a perfect scotch egg appetizer and some fried cauliflower to boot. Everything was delicious!
