The food was edible...not great.. but good...the atmosphere was absolutely breathtaking...I wish the food was as good.. this place was extremely overpriced. $19 for 5 dumpling? $19 for 3 small ribs? $20 for a small bowl of noodles? $10 for sparking water? The service was terrible.... The waiter that we had was pressuring us to order a prefix menu that was over $80 per person when all we wanted to do was taste a few things. I started to feel like she gets Commission if we agree to do a multi-course meal. At the end of the meal, they brought us the check all bunched together and we had to figure out who ordered what so we could split it because they refused to split the check. You can imagine how complicated this is after you've had a couple glasses of wine. I came here to enjoy myself and celebrate my best friends birthday, not to do math! That was a HUGE inconvenience and a turn off.

Very delicious dim sum sampler platter , I really enjoyed the pork flavored spring rolls and the shrimp toast in the sweet and tangy sauce was off the charts. The lobster fried rice and the chicken entree dish was just okay, everything was cooked really well but the entrees overall were very pricey. The services was impeccable, and we were never left with a dirty plate. I also loved the ambiance, the low lighting set a really romantic and relaxing mood. The chandelier room was gorgeous. I’d recommend this place if you want a slightly high end execution of Asian food and flavours.

One of the best asian restaurants around the locality. I wanted to eat vegetarian so they were able to accommodate me and remove meat and change broths to make it vegetarian. Love the vibe and the servers are prompt and super helpful in recommending the food options. I almost forgot my credit card and they kept it safely and found me at the bar downstairs to return it back to me. The food and cocktails were delicious. There is some wait time but it gets cleared pretty swiftly. Would visit again.

Are you ready for the 411? Here we go…took my family out for dinner for my daughter’s birthday and let me say in one word….AMAZING! First of all, the level of attention placed in the customer experience was extraordinary to me. We choose to go with the Tasting Menu IV which gave us the ultimate tasting experience with a 4-course meal. I would highly recommend this especially if it’s your first time and with a group.. Our server, Shanna, was extremely attentive to our every needs. The appetizer were a great starter…leading to the other dishes and one after the other it was more and more amazing. Everything was well seasoned and perfect to the taste. The dessert was another show stopper especially the cheesecake. The pictures taken do not even do the food just but just trust me Buddhakan does not disappoint. Great experience!

Apparently a scene of sex and the city was filmed here?? Edamame dumplings were divine and had something truffle in it (according to the group), not a lot on the GF menu but the hamachi, vegetable fried rice, lamb chops gluten free, and cod were amazing. All the food we got was great according to the group. service was a bit rough as it took almost an hour to get our drinks etc. silver lining is half our group showed up late and they still sat us. Ideally (chef preference) Food is ordered at once and served as it came out and we made good choices for a meal. Server let us order everything and then outlined for me what was gluten free, if that’s a preference in a large group.

I had an incredible time celebrating my significant other. I’m a vegan and he’s a carnivore but we were both able to enjoy a delicious meal. The appetizers were a perfect portion size to share or enjoy individually. The entrees are delectable and large. The rice was such a large portion size that my significant other and I were able to share one order of rice. The dessert was my favorite part of the entire meal. Normally restaurants don’t have vegan dessert options, especially not high quality dessert options for vegans but Buddakan went above and beyond to happily surprise me with a mango treat. My s/o and I fine dine regularly but this was one of my favorite dining experiences ever. The ambiance is awesome and the service is top tier. I would only suggest adding additional bathroom stalls on the first floor and/or have a sign to notify people of the additional restrooms on the lower level.

Stunning interior with dim lighting, incredibly high ceilings and beautiful chandeliers. Zen ambiance. Attentive waitress. The food was lacking though; most dishes were under-seasoned and just bland which was very disappointing. My son looked forward to lobster dishes and got two of them but both were tasteless.

The service we experienced was exceptional. Celebrating a birthday, the host and wait staff went above and beyond to ensure my friend enjoyed her special day. Their expertise on the menu items was impressive, and their attentiveness in advising us not to over-order—despite the potential for increased spending on our part—was greatly appreciated. The cod I chose for my main course was outstanding. Accompaniments included kimchi rice and shrimp fried rice, which, unfortunately, were somewhat bland. The shrimp and short rib dumplings also failed to impress our group. On a brighter note, the lobster eggrolls were a standout, truly phenomenal. The drinks were also very good. While I would recommend this establishment for its ambiance, the overall dining experience can be inconsistent, with the quality of the food varying from dish to dish.

The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and I really enjoyed the drinks. The food was also really good, but I would recommend focusing on the Chinese options, by far superior compared to the more steakhouse-like items. The steaks were a bit underwhelming, they weren’t rare like we asked and slightly underseasoned. Sauces and vegetables on the other side were really delicious, and I loved the family style dumpling selection (the edamame ones were the absolute winners, so insanely delicious). Now, this restaurant has two major issues. #1, the service. Some of the servers would literally toss glasses and dishes on the table, which resulted in constant spilling of water and food. Plus, we felt like some of the employees were giving us a little bit of attitude, not really sure why. #2, the restaurant is way too dark, including the bathrooms. I understand wanting to create a certain atmosphere but that doesn’t mean making people almost blind. Ultimately, greatly instagrammable location, but there’s def room for improvement.

Wonderful restaurant. Ambiance, food, service! Everything was excellent. Food is very flavorful. We had smoked salmon dumplings (my favorite), oxtail dumplings, & general tso dumplings. Entrees: duck & prime rib. Side: crab fried rice. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The atmosphere is intimate and dark. The staff was super friendly and accommodating despite all the decorations that we have brought in for our celebration. The food was a good portion to share with everyone at the table (we were 6) and it was delicious, finger licking good. The prices are absolutely reasonable and if your ever in NY should ABSOLUTELY stop by. Such a unique experience.

The ambience is hyped. I loved Tao Downtown better. The food was good, we had all vegetarian though. I really liked the Carrot and Edamame dumplings. The vegetarian fried rice was bland. The deserts were great. The cocktails are decent

Impressed with the food options and taste. Big fan of Starr restaurants as they actually care about the ingredients they use. Only issue was the food was never hot. Some were warm or Luke warm which made the food 4 stars instead of 5. Still tasted great though

Eating at Buddakan is one of my favorite Chelsea dining experiences. The main part of the restaurant is downstairs, and the ceilings are incredibly high. The candles and chandeliers are gorgeous. And the wait staff is amazingly nice! My family and I had a family style meal where we all got to taste everything. It was more than worth the price. The standout was the edamame dumplings! 10/10! I can’t wait to go again in the future.

Amazing restaurant, every dish was with good flavours The yellowtail was so good !! We ordered the black code too but the flavour was quite wired for us The only disadvantage is that we had a reservation and we came on time but waited too much time to be seated

Me and my boyfriend went to Buddakan for the first time this week and we were both slightly disappointed. The space and decor is absolutely beautiful but the food is left to be desired. For appetizers we ordered the Oxtail Dumplings and Pork Buns. The Pork buns were probably the best pork buns I've ever had - not too heavy and both savory and sweet. The Oxtail dumplings were... interesting. I'll just leave it at that. For entrees we ordered the Short Rib, Shrimp, Lobster Fried Rice and Noodles with Prawns. All the above were bland and flavorless except for the Short Rib which was super tender and savory. A definite highlight. All in all we might go back to try other things in the menu but Buddakan didn't live to the hype that I always hear about.

The right pick for the right occasion. We ordered the oxtail dumplings oh it's something about a West Indian and oxtails we take it how ever we can get it and this was a exceptional adaptation all the flavors you expect wrapped in a dumpling. We ordered the the lobster fried rice, Mongolian crusted lamb chops, crispy fried shrimp. Our entire meal was superb but the star of the show was the ginger crusted Mongolian lamb chops, they were just amazing I could eat that ever week.

Fun crowded spot with a beautiful interior and overpriced but tasty food. Edamame dumplings and shrimp dumplings are divine. Sizzling short ribs and spicy peanut noodles are decent. Mapo tofu is super watered down and unimpressive. Great for work dinners, dates with someone new, and special events. Food comes out at a reasonable pace, but serving staff is inattentive and slow.

One of my favourite restaurants in NYC. It exceeded our expectations! Our cocktails were delicious, the staff were very attentive, and the food was delicious. Came here twice the same week. The glazed Alaskan black cod and Lobster fried rice is a must try.

Buddakan is probably one of the highest rated restaurants in NYC. At the entrance, you will find a check-in counter similar to those in airports. If not all members are present, you will be directed to a lounge area to wait. Once everyone has arrived, the hostess will direct you to your table after you have informed them. Seeing the dining room while walking down the stairs is incredibly beautiful. However, there are still more tables tucked away in the surrounding corners. In addition to the regular dinner menu, there is a tasting menu. It ranges from 90 to 130 dollars per person. The appetizer begins at $$ and the main course at $$$. Food is decent, the presentation is appealing, and it's a good place to hold a business meeting or a romantic dinner. Additionally, the service is excellent and attentive. Highly recommended

The food here was mediocre, under-seasoned and unfortunately overpriced. I hadn’t read any reviews before coming as I was invited here for my friends birthday, but after glancing at them now I agree when people say it takes like your standard Chinese takeout. The cocktails were really good though, and the drink mixes themselves were very high quality. The chili shrimp simply didn’t have enough flavor or pineapple despite that being advertised. The salmon dumplings were decent but the salmon doesn’t pair well with the corn they decided to put in them, or the almost mayonnaise like dipping sauce they came with. The venue and artwork was magnificent though, I guess that might be what you are paying for when you eat here.

Vibes- immaculate Service- 12/10 Food- Amazing!! Everything about this spot was beyond expectations. They have a beautiful lounge which was fun to take pics in. We came in a group of 15 and they accompanied our vegan options- brought out vegan food for almost every option the others got for the table. The service was absolutely amazing and the staff is so attentive and kind. Vegan food options- check out all my photos!! I am definitely returning for this vegan food!!

Wow! What a great experience. We were very casually dressed in what is a premium establishment. Everyone made us feel welcome. Waiter was very attentive and was worried that we had ordered too much. The restaurant setting is amazing. Had the sole and the monkfish. Both outstanding. Dim sum was great, along with the lobster spring rolls. Definitely recommend. Booking essential.

We had a reservation with a group of 8. Service was great though the drinks took a long time. Food was amazing! Everything was delicious and cooked well, came out hot and promptly. Our server was great about pointing out things that coincided with the group's allergies. Great location by Chelsea Market. Pricey but what isn't in NY?....biggest downfall is that it is SO DARK in the restaurant.

It was our second time in this place, we love the atmosphere and the general decor which is very beautiful, our table was on time, stuff was friendly and had plenty of knowledge about the food Menu. We got the restaurant week Menu 3, $110 per person, it was a excellent choice, we shared plenty of appetizers, main courses and desserts. Drinks took a little longer of what we expected but nothing crazy. We were a party of 8 and we had such a good experience.

Food is good, huge venue and I wouldn’t mind to be seated somewhere else rather than looking into butler pantry. Food serving portion is very reasonable, we are able to share between 2 of us(some serving even 3pax??) Cocktails are great Somehow I think the music is overly loud and I am feeling like everyone that sat to our left or right are yelling across from the table; you certainly can’t have much conversation without shouting. For the price, quality of food, service is good and the ambiance due to where our seat is allocated, I will say 4/5. I would not think there are lots of WOW factors either

One word...Amazing! This place is absolutely a must go to. Fantastic ambiance if you like dining in low light settings which makes for a great date night scene or a night out in the town for the grown and sexy. Family style eating asian-fusion restaurant with a la carte and prefix menus. I highly recommend for any occasion. Nice drink menus consisting of reds, whites, sake, spirits and cocktails.

The food and drinks were amazing! Altho definitely pricey. The atmosphere here was so gorgeous, I loved the decor! The waiter was very friendly and did explain everything well. At the location they did have outdoor dining, but the experience inside was still amazing. They had many seating areas, and also a bar area. The suggestions the waiter made about the food was a bit much, because if I just had the wok noddles with prawns that would have been enough for me. I would come back and try the other menu items and the drinks, they were my favorite!

Went for a girlfriend of mine’s birthday and the atmosphere is fabulous. It’s forgiving if you wear a revealing outfit, or get an accidental smudge on pants and be fine because it is so very dark. Now the food: everything was 10/10. The lamb chops, peppered steak, oxtail dumplings, Chinese sausage fried rice, and their version of bang-bang shrimp was all prepared and seasoned perfectly. We ordered an array of dishes to share and you should too if you visit: Do not rob yourself of only trying 1-2 items here. I will add that getting the kimchi rice was a nice break from the meat and oily dishes we got; it was light and the kimchi still had a nice bite to it. Overall, fantastic vibes, service was great and I can say the food will have me coming back for a random night of amazing food. By the way, with all that we ordered (split 4 ways, 1 cocktail each and gratuity included) our bill was 90/person.

Overall a great experience with a great atmosphere. The food is delicious and the staff is great. We really enjoyed our time there. The black pepper beef is excellent! One important thing to note though, we were definitely disappointed with the desserts. Desserts were quite « basic » and didn’t seem to be really thought through, I don’t recommend them whatsoever. They don’t live up to the rest of the restaurant.

Overall very positive experience. We did a tasting menu (which I would highly recommend to get a bit of everything). Some things on the tasting menu were very good, but others were so-so. I really enjoyed the edamame dumplings, sizzling short rib, and Alaskan black cod but thought the lobster spring rolls, general tso’s dumplings, and vegetable rice were just okay. Still overall happy with my dining experience (and oh so full… the portions were more than enough), but not all dishes wow’ed me. One other thing to note is the service - SO good. We loved our server!!! She was so nice and so accommodating to our table’s dietary restrictions. She chatted with us and just made us feel so comfortable. Huge props. Also of course the darker vibes in the restaurant with the not-too-loud music was awesome too. Overall would still recommend you try this place!!!

You wouldn’t even notice this place if you were just walking by. But once you get inside, it’s like discovering paradise. Try the sampler (pictured below)- definitely worth it. Great DJ! You can’t go wrong coming here.

Great vibes, even better food! The Szechuan monk fish was excellent, perfect spice and taste profile. The lobster fried rice was excellent and a good portion size. The crystal shrimp dim sum was a great start to the meal, perfectly cooked. Their non alcoholic drinks were great. Staff and service also excellent. Food was out pretty quick. We’ll be back!

Magical ambulance and hip vibe 5/5. Wonderfully delicious food 5/5. Try the edamame dumplings and chicken dumplings in broth. Wow. For desert top it off with matcha flan. Service friendly but slow and inattentive for this caliber of restaurant 2/5. So disappointed. Management should pay more attention to customer service details. Maybe have additional staff to make sure drinks come sooner rather than when you have to ask where they are. Staff should check in and make sure what you need before you have to wait lots of time in between.

I must say I had such a great time @Buddakan from the staff, to the food, to the atmosphere 10/10! I can’t forget the cocktails! Strong but good. We ordered spring rolls, Asian green stir fry, jade shrimp dumplings, lobster fried rice, crab fried rice, glazed Alaskan black cod, and the steak that wasn’t mentioned in the video. The most memorable item off the menu was the Alaskan black cod hands down. It was cooked to perfection, it just melted in your mouth and was super flavorful. Same with the beef, it was to die for! Please go check out Buddakan , I will definitely be back!

Very interesting take on Chinese food. I believe I had some ribs here... omg so tasty. They melted off the bone. Then I think I had fish in a ginger sauce. I took my bf here for his birthday. Don't really remember what he had, but the drinks were good and service was pretty standard. Nothing amazing. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is alluring and out of a movie.

I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner. I made a reservation and when I checked in I requested to be sat in the main dining room downstairs. The front desk was very kind and said it would be at the long table, which was no problem. We were sat and at some point I noticed an empty booth and asked to be moved there if possible and they were very kind and accommodating and moved me over. Our server was great and answered any questions that we had. Overall I was much more impressed by the service over the food. We ordered the dim sum sharing platter for three which included enough pieces of the appetizers for each one of us to try. We ordered the black pepper beef, lobster fried rice, Chinese sausage fried rice, and the wok charred broccoli. My favorite I would have to say would have been the dim sum platter especially the spring rolls, those were very delicious. The black pepper beef and the wok charred broccoli were OK. The Chinese sausage fried rice was also OK but I was very disappointed by the lobster fried rice it was super flavorless. For dessert we ordered the banana cheesecake and that was very delicious. I’m not sure if it got busy at the end but it took a long time for the check to be dropped off. Of course, the venue was beautiful and unique.

Had dinner at Buddakan and it was excellent. We got chilli rock shrimp, edamame dumplings, pork buns, lo mein, cauliflower and lamb chops for dinner. Everything was delicious. For cocktails we tried the watermelon margarita called answer. Great ambiance and decor. Will be back to try more dishes!

This place is amazing. I had my birthday dinner here and it was great. The decor, lighting, hallways, atmosphere are a whole vibe. We ordered the pork buns as an appetizer and they were delicious. The fried rice, steaks, and short rib were pretty good. They give you nice size portions too.

Ambiance was nice, dark and quiet. Seating was awkward, I’d rather be at my own table not close to others while eating. Food was average at best and not worth the price. My drink was great. Our server was nice and gave timely service.

I recently dined at Buddakan in New York City and was completely taken by the stunning ambiance and the fusion of modern Asian cuisine. The grand, theatrical setting with its ancient Chinese-inspired design truly created a unique and vibrant dining experience. The menu offered innovative dishes that skillfully blended traditional Asian flavors with a contemporary twist. For cocktails, my partner and I tried the Indulge and Royal, and while the presentation was alright, the drinks were undeniably delicious. As for starters, we savored the General Tao’s dumplings and the Chili rock shrimp. Both were a perfect introduction to the culinary journey we were about to embark upon. For our main course, we indulged in the Mongolian lamb chops, Broken chili chicken, and Vegetable fried rice, all of which were flavorsome and satisfying. To top off our meal, we chose the Pistachio cremoso for dessert, which was an absolute delight. Throughout our dining experience, our waiter stood out for being not only friendly but also remarkably knowledgeable and attentive. It all contributed to making the evening truly special. I'd highly recommend Buddakan for date nights or any special occasion. The overall experience was impressive, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Big, boisterous, extravagant, larger than life, bit of Vegas in Manhattan! Buddakan impressed me not only with the ambience but also with the food. Crispy duck, fried rice, chicken, dumplings, everything was delicious with some fantastic service. Highly recommend.

Everything I ordered from the Chili Shrimp to the Edamame Dumplings, shrimp noodles, to the dessert was delicious. The service was top notch. If you have dietary restrictions or request Halal, they can accommodate you if you give them a week prior notice. Portions are not big but some items can be shared.

One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The ambiance in this place combined with the quality of food is almost unmatched. Start with the oxtail dumplings and rock shrimp and while I normally skip dessert I feel like it is a must here. Be sure to make a reservation. 5/5

  • 5/5 Stephanie P. 2 years ago on Google
You are able to book a reservation a month in advance and if you plan to come here, I would highly recommend making a reservation because if you wait til last minute, you might not get one. We had a short wait when we arrived so we grabbed a drink at the bar. It's pretty cool that they always know where you are - the eyes on sky know where you are. The ambiance here gives it a great evening dinner vibe - great for all occasions. It's kinda dark and dim, but I loved it. We couldn't decide on what appetizer to get so we had the Dim Sum Tasting, which I highly recommend. It came with 6 different things to try. I would say my favorite was the edamame dumpling. For dinner we had the Charred Filet and Mongolian Lamb Chops with a side of the Chinese Sausage Rice. All was delicious. One complaint - wish the portions of meat was a little tiny bigger. We finished with dessert - The Chocolate Cremoso. My bf has visited in the past and he said they are supposed to mix it up for you, but he knew what to do. If he wasn't there, I wouldn't have known. Overall, delicious food and great vibe.

Everything was perfect. From hostess, our server to every single dish we tried. Everything on the menu is meant to be shared. Place is huge, with different "rooms", a bit dark, but ambiance overall is very nice. Chinese broccoli warm salad (side) was big surprise, must try, as well as short rib scalion pancake. Desserts were amazing!

Came here for dinner after a day in the city. This place has been on my list to dine at for a while now so I was truly looking forward to it. I truly enjoyed it. Only concern is the noise. Between the loud music and others talking, it was very difficult to even talk to the person next to me, but we made it work. The dumplings at this place are amazing. Make sure you order!

Worth the hype. We went for a birthday party, and couldn’t believe how luxurious the restaurant felt. Dimly lit, high ceilings, intimate venue. The staff is also incredibly courteous and helpful. Our waitress was very accommodating to our dietary restrictions and gave us recommendations for Vegan Options. We had the Vegetable Fried Rice and the Crispy Tofu. Both were mouth watering. Excellent flavors that I couldn’t believe. The meal was perfection from beginning to end.

The restaurant was straight out of a movie. I loved the environment and the candle on the table was a cool touch (made a romantic setting). The service was great, but some of the food wasn’t that great for the price you’re spending. The only thing I loved was the beef pancake.

We were late for our reservations so we had to wait a bit but other than that delicious food and the waiter was very good at recommending the food and letting us know if it was big enough to share or for a person. Food came pretty fast and we had a great dinner would definitely recommend and return back for more and I went back home in love with my order which was lobster fired rice, stir fry green vegetables, Ube cheesecake( was a bomb) and my drink was very refreshing which was. On alcoholic since I’m pregnant. Name of my drink was reflection.

One of my favourite restaurants I’ve been to in the city - excellent service, great food and great vibes. The restaurant is pretty dark from the moment you get in which definitely sets the mood for chill vibes. Our waiter recommended we get a rice/noodles dish to share and a main each. We weren’t super hungry so we got a main to share and it was plenty.

Second time here and service was smooth as usual. The oxtail dumplings were decadent. Peking duck was not out of this world but good. Pork lo mien was also delicious. Obviously, it’s the ambience that caries this place which is impeccable.
