Firstly you should know that the Chrysler building does NOT have an observatory. That being said, the staff are more than welcoming for you to have a look around the lobby, there's some lovely art work, and it's all kept in the art deco theme like the Empire State Building.

Wonderful ! For me, the most beautiful building in New York. One of the symbols of rich, prosperous New York and the Roaring Twenties. Its Art-deco style gives it refined details. The eagles are magnificent. located on the 61st floor, they cannot, unfortunately, be seen with the naked eye. we can only observe the radiator caps of the Chrysler brand located on the 31st floor. At night, the spire of the building is impressive. But the details of the building can be appreciated by day. To think that this building will soon be a hundred years old. What a feat!

Probably the world's most beautiful skyscraper imo, specially considering its age. Last time we were in NYC 5 years ago we were allowed to enter the lobby, now that's not the case any more. Such a pity. Still my fav NYC building, just deducting one star because of that. See some amazing pics I captured from High Line and from Vanderbilt tower.

The Chrysler Building is a classic Art Deco skyscraper located in the East-Midtown area of Manhattan. At 319.5 m (1048 ft) high, the building held the title of the world's tallest building when it was completed in 1930. However, this was only to last 11 months before being surpassed by the Empire State Building in 1931. Nonetheless, it was the first man-made structure taller than 1,000 ft, and is still the tallest brick building in the world (albeit having an internal steel skeleton). The building was conceived by architect William Van Alen and contractor William H. Reynolds. Van Alen's original design comprised a decorative 'diamond' crown and showroom windows. The ambition of such a design proved too expensive for Reynolds who sold the lease to the industrialist Walter Chrysler. Chrysler wanted to rejuvenate the East 42nd Street area and commissioned Van Alen to redesign the building in a drive to making it the tallest in the world. This ambition was kept a secret. 40 Wall Street was being built simultaneously and it was believed it would secure the title of world's tallest. The additional 185 ft spire was delivered to site and erected in 90 minutes, surpassing 40 Wall Street just as the project team celebrated without realising they had been beaten.

Definitely my absolute favorite in NYC, what a beauty this building is. You can go to Grand Central and take a great picture with this gorgeous piece of architecture wonder in the back, best 🤳 selfie spot to get it in the background. Top of the Rock is a great way to see it as well. I wish there was a way to see it from a neighboring building!

The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco skyscraper built in 1930 to house the offices of the Chrysler automobile company and located at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue on the East Side of Manhattan. For a short time, just 11 months, the building was the tallest building in the world, but then the title was taken by the Empire State Building. Its decoration was based on elements of Chrysler cars. It is decorated on the outside with chrome sculptures. The Chrysler is an important example of Art Deco and is considered by major architects as the nicest building in the city. Its construction began in 1928 and was completed in 1930. Today the building is the fourth tallest in New York (it stands at 1,046 feet or 318.82 meters) after the Empire State Building at 1,250 feet or 381 meters, the Bank of America Tower with a height of 1,200 feet or 365.76 meters and One World Trade Center. Access to the skyscraper can be done via the subway from the Grand Central - 42 St stop (lines 7 and 4,5,6) as well as from the huge central train station Grand Central Terminal (Danbury lines , Harlem, Hudson, New Canaan, New Haven).

Undoubtedly the most beautiful skyscraper in New York City. Unfortunately it’s currently not open to the public so we just have to enjoy looking at this Art Deco masterpiece from other parts of the city. One great way to get a good view of it is ironically from the Empire State Building, the building that supplanted it as the world’s tallest building. Of course enjoy the Empire State Building, but make sure to spend some time looking at the Chrysler Building too.

About a year or so ago, i accidentally discovered that the side entrance stairs of the Chrysler goes straight into Grand central station. I often branched through there just to avoid crossing the road that had lots of people trying to get to the trains during rush hour. Not sure if it will make a comeback. But sure hope it does. I love taking random shots of scenic places and buildings, so i took a slanted one of the Chrysler on my way home from work.

An iconic building just outside the Grand Central Terminal. Hard to miss and worth taking a look at it. You can see the iconic gargoyles featured in so many movies ( Batman, Man in Black, Spiderman etc. )

I've been wanting to visit this building for years but sadly the 4 days I was in New York for the building was closed due to covid and the closet I could get were the front doors which was so disappointing as this was August 2022 and everyone seems to have moved on apart from this building. But I did get some nice pics of it from the Empire State Building !!!

Funny this is still categorized as a tourist attraction because as of March 2023, tourists are not allowed to even enter the lobby. When you enter the building there is a doorman waiting, and you must have an appointment at one of the businesses to go any further. I quickly snapped a couple photos with my phone. Hate to give it a 3-star rating, but what am I rating exactly? Of course it's a beautiful building, but it is an office building, not a tourist attraction. My tip for getting in would be to make an appointment at the dentist in the building. 😁 Oh and don't forget to turn around and take a reflection photo from the doorway.

You do not need tickets to view this building. The building owners let you walk through the building, even if you have to stay against the wall. In one door and out the opposite side. Along the wall there are photos and a bit of history of this beautiful building.

One of the most iconic buildings in New York. Pity it doesn’t have a viewing point. You can only see the lobby , although last time I was there the doorman said that it wasn’t allowed anymore

The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco skyscraper in New York City, located on the east side of Manhattan in the Turtle Bay area at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue. It is 1,046 feet (319 m) tall. The structure was the tallest building in the world for 11 months before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building in 1931. It is still the tallest brick building in the world, and despite having a steel interior, the second tallest skyscraper in New York City was rebuilt after the destruction of the World Trade Center, but in December 2007, the level of the Bank of America Tower was raised to 1, 200 feet (365.8 metres), which placed the Chrysler Building in third place The Chrysler Building is a classic example of the Art Deco architectural style, and is considered by many contemporary architects to be one of the most magnificent buildings in New York City.

The Chrysler Building is one of New York’s most notable skyscrapers and one of the world’s most revered buildings. In May of 2018, I brought myself and my wife for a visit to the Chrysler Building to celebrate our Happy Four Year Relationship Anniversary!!! Owned by both the Signa Holding & RFR Holding, the Chrysler Building was fully constructed in 1930 by Walter Chrysler of the Chrysler Corporation and it was designed by architect, William Van Alen. Standing at 1,046 tall, the Chrysler Building has been showcased in many popular films, such as Independence Day, Deep Impact, the Avengers and Men in Black 3. While the Chrysler Building lacks an observation deck, the building does allow visitors to come and see it’s gorgeous Art Deco designed hall on the ground floor. Both my wife and I very much enjoyed viewing the Art Deco hall and took great pictures!!! When visiting New York City, both my wife and I recommend that you definitely make to time to see and visit the Chrysler Building!!!

I had the dream of seeing Chrysler Building since I was young and saw it in the movies. The architecture is breathtaking and it stands out from anywhere you look at the building. I am so happy that I also got the chance to see the lobby from inside, such a beautiful art deco architecture. Would love to see in a couple of years an observation deck.

This is favourite building in New York. Absolutely stunning! It is a shame that it cannot be visited. We could only access the main hall, and we were not allowed to take photos there. However, my recommendation is to visit the new One Summit Vanderbilt building, the only one from which you can get a full and panoramic view of the Chrysler. Not to be missed!!!

Only allowed into foyer and have to keep to the sides as u walk around . Like walking back into a 1930s time capsule but tbh nothing to see or do here . It’s a building used by private offices so u can’t go above ground level .

It is probably the most striking building in NYC. Once the tallest building in the world when completed in 1930, it was eclipsed by the Empire State Building 11 months later. However, it remains a stunning architectural masterpiece and is considered one the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the world.

The Chrysler Building is a classic example of Art Deco architecture and considered by many contemporary architects to be one of the finest buildings in New York City. The Chrysler Building is considered a leading example of Art Deco architecture. The corners of the 61st floor are graced with eagles; on the 31st floor, the corner ornamentation are replicas of the 1929 Chrysler radiator caps. The Chrysler Building is also renowned and recognized for its terraced crown. Overall, the Chrysler Building is a must-visit part of New York's iconic skyline and other attractions.

Beautiful, iconic building, kinda wish there was an observation level that is open to the public. It’s not. (as we found out upon entering the lobby) I completely understand why they wouldn’t be public given that most of their offices are prestigious clients. The security guard approached us and confirmed that the building is not a public space. She was kind and even smiled. Not really an issue for us but perhaps they could implement a specific day a month for reservation only special tours?

Built between 1928 and 1930, the Chrysler Building was briefly the tallest in the world, at 1,046 feet (318.8 metres). It claimed this honour in November 1929—when the building was topped off with a 180-foot (55-metre) spire—and held the record until the Empire State Building opened in 1931

Such a visually stunning place, inside and out. 5/5 for cultural influence and sheer brilliance. 2/5 for engagement with the otherwise unaddressed accessibility public. Ti's a shame that the lobby has so little to augment the experience. The only artistic display is a goblin king's head made of aluminum foil (what, right? The Art Deco icon with art made from, well, trash?!) and little else. Nothing of the history of the building in the lobby. I as a visitor could not even STAND in the center of the lobby, as the security personnel told me. Look at it from the outside. Don't bother with the lobby inside. Maybe if we had gone up to the observation deck, we would have had a different experience. But alas and alack, it is woefully disappointing.

5 stars for the history and architecture of such a beautiful building, it's just how you'd expect it standing tall and shining in the middleman of Manhattan. 1 star tho for security who are as mentioned by multiple people very rude and need to be changed.

Not worth visiting, you can’t get inside and there is no good way of taking pictures of the building when close. I would recommend to find a more far away spot with good view for pictures. Architecture is amazing though, unfortunately you can check only the lower part of the building.

Love the art deco look of this building. Just wish they offered tours or an observation deck. I can't imagine the building is fully leased so having a public option might make them some money. Newer buildings like One Vanderbilt and the Edge at Hudson Yards are really cool but these historical high rises can have just as much intrigue due to their amazing architecture and the detailing that you just don't see today.

I saw nighttime clips of this building when watching the Late Show with David Letterman in 1999 at age 12 and I was immediately fascinated. I never knew the name of it until 2010, always referring to it as the building that at night resembles raindrops on an umbrella. Luckily for me, during my stay in Newark NJ in 9/2013, I got to see it from my hotel room every night. It is so beautiful at night! Very unique and intriguing design! I am really looking forward to seeing this remarkable skyscraper up close in the daytime hours during my next visit to the Newark NJ/New York City area.

We had a great time seeing the beautiful lobby in this art deco treasure of a building! Every piece of the building (elevators, trim, doorways, lighting, etc.) had some element of art deco design in the detail. Truly one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen, and we only saw the lobby! (There were no tours or anything of the sort available, but stopping in to see the inside is well worth it.) We were also helped by a very courteous doorman who explained to us that there were no tours but that we could walk around the edges of the lobby and take pictures.
