This is a really fun indoor place to visit during the cold winter days. Several iconic buildings/stations across NYC are modeled from wooden logs and trains are running all around them. A wonderful experience to learn about the historical progression of railroad in NY. Along the trains, you also get to learn lots about trees and plants. The ticket to the comes with full access to the garden. They have a limited number of parking spots, around 40, on site. Its $20 for the day. Tickets are $32 per adult. Buy tickets online to ensure you have guaranteed entry to the show. I’d recommend getting the membership, which costs about 1.5x price of regular ticket, but you get unlimited entries for the year. Certain level of membership also comes with free parking and 10% discount in Gift shop. If you already purchased tickets, you can get upto $95 in credit, if you buy membership on the same day of your visit. This is a fun family spot, lots if things to explore with kids. They have cafe and restaurants at the site too. Easily worth visit 2-3 times a year (winter, cherry blossom and summer days).

I've been wanting to go Kusama exhibit since I first saw one online. When I saw Cosmic Nature in NYC, I knew I wanted to go. It's a bit of a trek to get here from the city. It took over an hour to get here from Grand Central. It was definitely worth the trip here. I loved the exhibit, but the garden itself was gorgeous too. We spent a couple of hours here and if I wasn't so tired from walking so much already, we could have spent longer. I'd definitely recommend this as a great way to escape the city for a while.

Although it’s hard to get to up in the Bronx, if you don’t live out there, it’s well worth a trip. The garden is HUGE. Definitely be prepared to spend a good chunk of your day here, if not the entire day. It’s so peaceful to walk through the various parts. You get everything from forests and waterfalls, to rose gardens. There’s even an edible garden section. There is supposedly a shuttle bus that goes around the park, but I never saw it in the few hours I was walking around the park. That said, it may have been because I was there during very low traffic time (middle of the day on a week day). Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the New York metro area!

We went there during winter for the “GLOW” exhibition and the “train show” which we really enjoyed. It’s cool to experience a botanical garden in a different way, by watching miniature trains go through the plants and gaze at beautiful built miniatures of famous New York buildings. Although it’s a great idea and fun to see it’s not worth the around 50$ admission fee for both things. That’s too expensive. Luckily it works with the Sightseeing pass, although you are not supposed to see the “GLOW” exhibition at night because the lady in the ticket booth told us we have to be outside at 5 pm. Obviously nobody is checking when you are actually leaving :) We spent 1/2-1 hour inside watching the trains and about 30 minutes walking through the area and watching the Christmas lights. I definitely recommend doing it when it’s dark and with snow when you are really lucky. They close at 10pm (the train exhibition earlier). Cool shop at the end with quality products.

You can't go wrong with this place. There's a little something for everyone. The grounds are beautifully kept and they have all sorts of events and exhibits going on throughout the year. NYC residents get discounted admission tickets, but the annual pass is totally worth the price. You can bring lunch or they have two eateries on site. Plan to spend several hours here, but if you really want to see absolutely everything they have to offer, you'll need at least 2-3 days. Make sure to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and your best walking shoes.

One could easily spend several days here, exploring the many exhibits, trails, and gardens. Overall a lovely experience, special gardens are available for children’s to explore, the tram rounds every 25 minutes or so, dining available in the cafe but there appears to be ample room for picnics. Very kid friendly.

We went to the Glow show. Last day, last time slot. It was really beautiful. It was organized and very COVID-19 safe. Can't wait for the weather to warm up and see the spring events. If you get a chance next Nov through mid January go to the Glow event. Great for families, date night or spending time with friends.

New York Botanical Garden is a nice place for a walk in the woods in New York City. Lots of beautiful plants without overbearingly seem like a plant museum. The paths are very well maintained and marked. The waterfall area on the East River provides a scenic shady spot to cool off on a warm day. Special planted areas add specific variety, but do stay off the rocks as signed in the rock garden. Restaurant service is grab and go with good variety, especially if you like to eat plants. While not noted on the website, NYBG honors admission for free to members of reciprocal gardens.

Such a nice place to visit. They have a wonderful dinning place, and shop. The place is nice to walk around any seasons. The train show, orchid show and light show are great. I enjoyed all of them. I have been many time and enjoy going back.

The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx is an absolute five-star treasure, especially during their orchid exhibit. Walking through those lush, colorful displays of orchids is like stepping into a floral wonderland. The garden itself is a serene oasis in the heart of the bustling city, providing a perfect escape into nature. It's not just a garden; it's a living museum, a place where art and science collide beautifully. The orchid exhibit, in particular, is a breathtaking experience. The sheer variety and vibrant colors of these delicate blooms are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Whether you're a seasoned botanist or just someone who appreciates the beauty of flowers, it's an enchanting journey. But it's not just about pretty flowers; it's also about education and conservation. The New York Botanical Garden is at the forefront of research and preservation efforts, making it an essential institution for the planet's well-being. So, whether you're a nature enthusiast, a couple looking for a romantic date, or a family with curious kids, this place has something for everyone. It's a sanctuary of beauty, knowledge, and tranquility right in the heart of the Bronx. Five stars for this incredible botanical gem and its captivating orchid exhibit!

Great place to go if you enjoy walk in the park and appreciate different species of plants and flowers. Even if you don’t understand that much about specifics. You gotta have tickets before coming in or be a member. The place is big and I suggest avoiding too hot days even though there are lots of trees. The garden counts with a trolley that goes around the whole place and has specific stops so in case you get tired of walking you can count on that. They also have a giant greenhouse with species from several different countries and environments like rain forest, desert, etc. The place has 2 restaurants, restrooms and a flower shop.

Visited today for the Fall-o-ween event. Points of interest right now include the giant pumpkins, pumpkin carving demonstrations, the jack-o-lanterns through the children's garden, the birds in front of the conservatory, and the after dark event. We also sighted a coyote in the gardens. Gorgeous at any time of the year this is a must see destination in NY.

I had so much fun today. Everything impressed. The nature, the well-thought-out art, the fall theme, and even my taste buds thanked me. I was walking around with a very tasty cold beer. The hot chocolate was so rich and delicious too. NYBG I love you so much

Superb! Gorgeous exhibits and the flowers and lawns are wonderfully tended too. The Kusama exhibit was somewhat pricier than I had imagined. The indoor sights required a pass that was around $35 additional to the entry fee. Most museum entry is cheaper than this . While I can afford it, some people who may want to come here might not be able to, so that was a bit sad. :[ Cafe has decent coffee. but the farmers market took my heart. Yummy fresh bread and rice balls and I washed it all down with some fresh juice. All local fresh vendors ! I wasn't able to sit on the grass like I would have wanted in a lush area like this but there were plenty of benches. The gardens in front of the conservatory??? WOW. I felt like I was queen in her royal garden. So dang gorgeous!

Awesome place to spend the day. Go on a weekday and book your tickets online. It wasn't crowded on a Wednesday. The metro north station is right across the street from the entrance. Very easy to get to. I believe there's a getaway package deal with Metro North.

The orchid show is so beautiful. It has countless varieties of orchids. People there were excited and loved the show, as did I. In the gift shop you can purchase your own orchid or other plant. The staff is friendly and will give you pointers on how to care for your plant. There is a spot for drinks and snacks. There is also a trolly. Th rest of the grounds are not fully back for spring that I saw but they make for a nice walk. Go check it out .

This is the most beautiful park! It’s excellent for walking around and enjoying nature at its finest. There’s an adorable restaurant, a beautiful gift shop where you can buy flowers, home decor, gifts for yourself or your love ones. There’s also a children’s garden where the kids love to play which has so many activities for them to try and learn. Throughout the park their are multiple places to buy drinks and snacks. It’s perfect if your alone, a family or couple. There is something beautiful to see and do for everyone. You definitely will walk away with a lot of amazing pictures. Every season they have a beautiful new exhibit or event. A must see!!! Go and experience nature at its best. Enjoy!

My family, including my 5 year old son, and I had a great time visiting here on Christmas Eve. The lines weren’t too bad and the weather wasn’t too cold so we lucked out! The main attraction was the Holiday Train show which was amazing. We also took a ride on the free shuttle bus around the entire property which was about a half hour ride. I look forward to coming back more to explore the grounds more fully in different seasons!

NYBG glow and train show. Beautiful ! The garden is lit up beautifully. The line for the train show moved quickly , and even if you had a long wait it was well worth it.Food and drink are available. A little pricey , but to each his own. The traffic to go into the garden parking lot was horrendous There is plenty of parking on southern boulevard. It’s right across from the garden.

The botanical garden located in the Bronx was established in 1891 and is spread out over about 260 acres. There is an entrance charge to the garden. It is about a 22-minute train ride from Grand Central Station and a few minutes walk from the train station. It's a great place for children. A tram ride provides a good overview of the garden. We were there for the birding 101 guided tour. Our guide, who was very knowledgeable, talked about the migratory habits of different birds and also how to tell the type of birds from the sound they made. We managed to identify over 10 different birds in our one hour tour. There are cafes and toilets conveniently located near the main entrance. The Bronx Little Italy neighbourhood is about a 20-minute walk from the main entrance of the park and has amazing Italian food and pastries.

Great place to visit with gorgeous flowers and trees. Easy to walk around and they also have a tram that will take you to key locations within the garden while telling you about the history of the place. Staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Buildings are well maintained. Worth the trek up to the Bronx to enjoy the plant life and serenity.

So came on a cloudy Sunday and while it was cold and eventually wet day, the experience was still great. So much to see and experience. The walking and trails were just what I needed. The pumpkins were amazing. Absolutely will go back again to experience more of the garden on a day when it’s not raining. Expect the rain ads something special to everything.

If you’re a New York City resident and go here on Wednesday it’s free and it’s free for anyone between 10am-11am. This is the biggest garden I’ve ever been to and there’s so much to beautiful plants and sights to see. It’s extremely clean, has a must see rose garden, a library, a waterfall and so much more. I highly recommend anyone coming here if you love nature.

A gorgeous place to visit. We have been going here for over a decade now and go at least a few times a year (Orchid Show, Pumpkin Festival and the Holiday Train Show). Its a great place to walk outdoors and enjoy all the flora and fauna. Every season and even month brings something new to enjoy. Young and old, there's something here for you. Tired from walking? Hop on the tram and take a tour. It stops along the way at various points and you can hop off and explore. Always a lovely time here.

Truly one of my favorite places. I’ve gained so much inspiration for my own gardens from here. Every time I visit the garden, there’s always something new. I especially love their seasonal exhibits. Spring holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first time I visits the garden- the daffodils and cherry blossoms are stunning. If you’ve never been or if you’re visiting NYC, you have to add this to your list of things to see. Also, they have a beautiful gift shop and an absolutely amazing restaurant- the Hudson Garden Grill (previously reviewed individually).

The NYBG Glow and Holiday Train Show is one of most unique Christmas experiences in NYC! While it was enjoyable, I significantly enjoyed the train show more than the lights (which were underwhelming). The event would be below average if not for the special nighttime admission to the train show. We would go again but would maybe purchase tickets solely for the train show. The cost was on the higher end of Chrismtas experiences: $54 per adults, $39 per children, and parking was $22 per vehicle. There were maybe only 3-4 unique light displays and those were minimal too - something you could maybe see walking around NYC for free (light up trees, string lights, light up buildings). I wish there were more lights horticulture themed or really utilizing the large natural space. Not too much for kids to do. I definitely saw more adult groups than families. Besides walking around the garden at night, the main kid activities were the photo ops, playing with a small trolly/train, and looking for hidden acorns in the train show. The true gem of this event is the holiday train show. The display features hand crafted buildings and train displays of sights around NYC - all housed within the architecture and plants of the Haupt Conservatory. The details are incredibly intricate and there's something to see no matter where you're standing or whichever way you're facing. Most of my visit was spent at the Haupt Conservatory for the holiday train show. Restrooms were available during the event and were well maintained. Food was not as plentiful. There were a few vendors from the Bronx Night Market but nothing too appealing (limited drink options too) so we ended up eating on the way home. Sweets can be purchased but that was a little far back by the holiday train show entrance. Easy, flat walking surfaces that are well lit. Any paths not part of GLOW were not lit. There was no line to enter. There was a short line for the indoor portion of the holiday train show - visitors went in waves. The outdoor portion comes first and there were no lines to enter, though tickets were checked again. Parking is either by the front entrance or directly across the street at Fordham University ($22 parking fee is cash only). There are signs and staff members directly you in the right direction.

A bit of a journey out from Bedstuy Brooklyn but well worth the trip. A large expanse that feels isolated from the city and provides a great escape. Everything is meticulously laid out and labeled, which made for a very educational experience. Came for Yayoi Kusama and stayed for the Conservatory, which is a must see. Easily one of the best I have ever seen around the world, with a huge variety of interesting and unique plants in various ecosystems. Amazing collection. Highly recommend a visit to provide a feast for your eyes. There's a shuttle that does laps around the garden. But bring good walking shoes as it's much more enjoyable to stroll around. Getting there by public transit - the 2 and 5 lines will drop you near the eastern entrance which was very convenient. Stop by Tacos El Bronco 2 before heading home for some amazing, authentic al pastor tacos before falling asleep on the long trip back home. Looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Garden Glow was $80 (after parking) for a 15-minute walk with around a quarter mile of lights. The worst event I've ever spent money on, and they're not giving refunds. I understand things may be harder this year with COVID, but thee event was not advertised or priced as a limited event. I got a parking ticket earlier in the day that I went and my visit to NYBG was by far a far worse use of my money. It wouldn't have even been worth my time as a free event, let alone $80.

The NYBG is an expansive green space that serves as an urban oasis. It is close to the Bronx zoo, so could be combined into a nice day trip. Employees are nice and helpful. A huge 250+ acre expanse of plants, trees, ponds. Nicely maintained paths and tons of plaques to educate about each species. Lots of benches in the shade to rest and enjoy the outdoors. Tons of color. This is also the first botanical garden I've visited that is so bountiful I can smell the sweetness of the blooms as I meander (even with a mask on). Would be a nice place to visit in all seasons.

I was so lucky to have been brought here by my friends. I don't really know how much the ticket costs coz they used a free pass as they were members. So sorry, I wouldn't be able to give an idea of the cost. However, I can say it was really beautiful!!! We went the Halloween weekend so there were events and it was Fall!!! We spent 3 hours or so walking and hiking. We had a stroller with us and at times, the stroller had to be carried to go down or up the steps. We had fun!

During my visit to this remarkable botanical garden, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to attend the highly anticipated orchid show. It was an awe-inspiring experience, with an incredible array of orchids on display. The show showcased a remarkable diversity of orchid species, each boasting its own unique beauty. From vibrant and exotic orchids to delicate and rare varieties, the collection was a visual feast for the senses. As an avid photographer, I was overjoyed to have my camera with me. The botanical garden provided the perfect backdrop for capturing the stunning details and vibrant colors of the orchids. Every turn revealed a new and captivating bloom to photograph, making it a photographer's paradise. Exploring the garden and attending the orchid show also offered a peaceful escape, allowing me to immerse myself in the serenity of nature. It was a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a leisurely walk while admiring the scenic beauty surrounding me. If you have a fondness for botanical gardens, I highly recommend visiting this exceptional garden and making a point to attend their orchid show. It's an experience that combines the pleasures of birdwatching, photography, and immersing oneself in the beauty of nature. Don't miss out on this opportunity to create lasting memories and appreciate the remarkable diversity of orchids in all their splendor.

Beautiful gardens and amazing scenic views of all the wonders that nature has to offer. My friends and I came here on a Sunday morning on the last day of their orchid show. We got the right combination of overcast weather and a burst of sunshine in the afternoon. Walking around the garden makes you feel like you are in a wonderland. There are even separate hiking trails for those who feel adventurous. The orchid show was truly one of a kind, I had never seen such a variety of orchids in my entire life. The lush oranges, yellows, and varying shades of pink and purple really brought so much beauty into my life. Although it was a trek from the city (a subway ride and a metro north ride), it was an experience I will never forget. We grabbed lunch at the café, which provided speedy service and a nice variety of quick bites/drinks. Pro-tips: you are allowed to bring food and water into the garden. The metro north sticks to their schedule. All in all, I 100% recommend visiting the New York Botanical Garden with friends, family, and visitors, alike — you will not regret it!

The exhibit called GLOW at the New York Botanical Garden was magical. The garden displayed an array of changing colors throughout reflecting on trees, the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the facade of the library building and on the ice sculpture coming to life as the artist was working to complete it. Words nor photos cannot truly capture the experience. It was a very enchanting way to enjoy a walk in the garden at night as it came to life in a burst of colors and holiday lights.

As surprising as it may sound, there are actual trees in New York outside of Central Park - all it takes is a trip out to the Bronx, a borough usually known for the grass on the field at Yankee Stadium. Encompassing over 50 acres of land in the north Bronx, this hidden gem is well worth the trip from either the city or one of the other outerboros. While it may seem intimidating with more acres than most people know what to do with, there are 2 major things you should do when visiting the gardens: go to the Haupt Conservatory and take the tram ride around the grounds. The conservatory is lush a bio-dome, taking you from tropical rain forest, to arid desert and tranquil ponds all withing the same building. However the building truly comes alive during the winter and early spring when the Holiday Train Show and Spring Orchid Show fill the greenhouse with whimsy and wonder. Truly a spectacle not to be missed, especially for those who live so close to the city

Large outdoor outdoor area with plenty of plant. The best things about the botanical garden is the train show. Pro: 1. Train show 2. Large outdoor playground Con: 1. Parking is limited and there's limited parking available as part of the membership. 2. No EV charging on site, you will have to go across Garden to a different parking lot for charging

A stunner! This property is as gorgeous as it gets. Get ready and go! Each and every turn is filled with beauty. Bring food and drinks, comfy shoes, and be ready to spent at least 6 hours.

A little disappointed with the Orchid show, not special as I remember from 8 years ago.

This place is beautiful and amazing. Been coming for years. Works for all four seasons. Orchid show, train show, and much more. Worth a visit if you’ve never seen it.

Visited today to see some colors of spring. Wonderful. They are doing a great job with reduced crowds and safety. The garden is always great and staff friendly. I loved the lower key orchid display this year. It had a very natural feel and still a good way to perk up the winter grey days. Thank you for all your efforts.

A beautiful garden for NYC, but we definitely went at the wrong season (early September). It was hot outside, and very green still, but we missed almost all of the flower bloom. The workers are all very friendly and they check for covid vaccine cards, but most of the exhibits are outdoors, so masks weren't on a lot of people. The front entrance and surrounding areas are very crowded, but as you go deeper there are far fewer people. I wish the signs on the walkways were more descriptive or tied into the maps better, because it was difficult to figure out where to go at times to get to certain exhibits we wanted to see. Parking wasn't terribly hard to find in the Bronx, we got some under a bridge about a ten minute walk from the gardens, but paid parking is expensive (as are tickets to NYBG! I feel it should be a little cheaper). All in all, expansive park, lot of things to see, just make sure you go during the right season! We went during an art exhibition too, so most of my photos were of the artist's sculptures. Also! Lot of wildlife, we saw a lot of chipmunks, birds, squirrels, and 2 snakes that slithered on the walkway as we were walking, just feet away from us! (snakes were garter snakes, so not dangerous at all).

We were lucky to visit the New York Botanical Garden during the Yayoi Kusama exhibit. The garden is massive. There is a tram tour you can take. The conservatory is a necessary stop. The rose garden is also beautiful in season. Great place during fall leaf peeping. Azaleas and lilacs also nice in season. Great place for a nature walk, worth the visit.

The New York Botanical Garden is a great place to spend the day hiking around beautifully scenic paved paths when the weather is nice, but there are plenty of things to see when it's not too. Take a walk through the Conservatory and feel the different climates some plants are suited to, and keep your eyes on their website for special exhibits, like the Kusama exhibit currently ongoing.

Enjoyed it way more than I expected. The wide variety of bees feeding on the variety of flowers was astounding. Not to mention the wild rabbits, turtles and frogs in the middle of New York City.

Went to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibit. We got there at 11:30 and did not need to wait in line for anything other than the tram, which I highly recommend as the grounds are large. The tram is included in the ticket. It was not too crowded and the gardens and exhibits were great. I suggest bringing your own water and snacks.

There are several botanical gardens in New York City, but none with grounds as extensive as the NYBG in the Bronx. 250 acres of well tended gardens await you. You obviously will not visit all, but wear comfortable shoes and choose a clement day because the largest part of your visit will be outdoors. The garden never feels crowded because of its size, but also because entrance fees are outrageously priced at 30 dollars per adult. And that is the main downfall of this beautiful place. It prices itself above market and falls into the trap that many other New York public spaces fall into. Somehow, they all expect to be paid between 25 and 30 dollars for access to their grounds. Many New Yorkers simply don't visit the garden because it's already far to get too. Add the cost. And they get discouraged. Regardless, come prepared. There are ways to counter the cost, especially if several people are visiting. You can also pack a picnic and eat in many areas of the park, which is definitely an option to consider for a family.

The annual train show at the NYBG is a great display of New York States history and beauty, while also showcasing the skill of the individual designers. After the train show is over, be sure the walk the NYBG grounds and enjoy the grand experience. While some areas are closed due to COVID ( Everet Children’s Adventure Garden) , there is still lots to explore.

I went a few years ago and now came back this june 2022, seems like there's less now than before but still a charming sight. It's currently $28 for admission. Every 25 minutes at various stops throughout the garden, there's a small open bus that drives people around to get you to places quicker. To my sight, there are no water fountains and in fact, one of them (the only one I saw, actually) was broken near the kid's area. Lots of wildlife like squirrels, chipmunks (probably the most you'll ever see), blue jays, cardinals, and pigeons.

I can’t wait to go back, we saw many acres of beautiful flowers & trees but not all! It’s definitely a place to enjoy with loved ones! Parking lot is spacious, staff is super friendly & helpful, gift shop is marvelous, plus you can ride a bus for FREE to review the entire park, a lovely 30 minutes.

Lovely and peaceful place to spend a day with family. The orchid exhibition was fantastic. The children’s garden was awesome for kids to explore. Will go back again to explore more. The only downside was that the cafeteria was crowded and had to wait in a long line to get food.
