Found cockroaches in our first assigned room, no blankets or bedspreads. Manager changed us to another small room, two single beds...but with proper covers. Unusually cold, even with full heat...checked window- Broken. Management sent someone to look at it, managed to close it but still very drafty, even with heat full blast. He went to leave and almost pulled the door handle off - it was so loose. Said that wasn’t safe ( obviously 😒) tighten 1 screw and left with a warning to use caution, if it comes off we could easily be lock IN 🥺. Manager called soon after with apology and offered us an upgrade to a better room, with larger beds. Very nice, ( or so we thought)... .new room... our “ upgrade” was perhaps slightly larger than our previous rooms (I’m being generous here 😕) , still only 2 small single beds, stained shower curtain, and you couldn’t pay me enough to bathe in that tub 😖. Good job we were there to see the city, and used the room only as a place to sleep- the bed made my back so bad, I could hardly walk the next morning. In fact I found a note on the floor the next morning from someone named Carlos ( from the spa perhaps) who had noticed my difficulty when walking down the hall, asking if I’d be interested in booking a massage. I requested management comp at least one night of our 3 night stay, or offer something ... theatre tickets, maybe spa passes (for that massage) or at least a decent upgrade as originally promised...no response. Very disappointed, this put a dark cloud over what was otherwise a lovely visit to one of my favorite cities.. it was not the impression I wanted to leave my daughter with on her very first trip to NYC.

When we first got there, the hotel seemed pretty nice. Our floor was very dark and dated, which was ok with me, I wasn't in NY for the hotel. When we got back at night, we realized our A/C didn't work, but it wasn't unbearably hot, but somewhat uncomfortable. Got in bed, and my feet hit the bare mattress, gross. I told housekeeping the following morning and they put a proper bottom sheet on the bed. Later that day, we had water leaking from the ceiling, which flooded our bathroom and we had to change rooms. The next room they put us in, the A/C also didn't work (fan wouldn't even come on), and they told us a lie about it being a central A/C, so none of the rooms would work. Even if it was a central A/C, the local unit in the room would still allow the fan to come on if it wasn't broken. Got in bed late that night, and the bed was made the same way as the first room (I attached pictures to this review). I wish I had taken pics of our first room. I told the manager the following morning, who gave me his boss' email and asked that I email the pics to him. Emailed twice over two weeks and got no response. They really don't care whatsoever if your stay was horrible, if their hotel leaks and ruins your belongings, if you sweat all night for lack of A/C, or if you have to sleep with your feet on a bare mattress without fresh sheets.

This hotel in historic building and a longtime operating staple of Manhattan lodging is an excellent value in an exquisite location. It is true, the rooms are small and the furnishings are outdated. Yet, I've found it reasonably clean and the staff both friendly and accommodating. For the location and overall experience, the cost is notably low. One shouldn't expect luxury accommodations at this price and particularly at these prices in this area. If wanting a hotel experience to comfortably rest without spending so much, this place is a good choice. If one wants luxury one can pay for that and if bare bones is okay one can save even more money staying at some hostels or BNBs that are also in superb locations.

The hotel room was gross. The floor was dingy and felt wet. The room smelled like mildew. The walls had stains, holes, & cracks. When we called the desk for wash cloths, they never came. Not comfortable at all! Didn’t even want to come back to our room to relax after being out. Didn’t even want to take a shower or use the bathroom. Would’ve went downstairs to ask for a better room but the line at the desk was always so long because not enough people were working. Horrible experience.

Cannot describe how disgusting our experience was here. The rooms looked absolutely nothing like the pictured. The beds were absolutely covered in very questionable stains. We called and asked for new linens and never received them. The room smelled heavily of mildew and cigarette smoke. The ceiling panel above the bed was clearly rotted out and in the middle of the night a massive cockroach fell on our heads. At least the front desk attendant was incredibly polite, professional and helped us into a new room quickly. Unfortunately the new room was only in slightly better shape than the last. The place is clearly in disrepair and the shape of the lobby is incredibly misleading to the shape of the rooms.

Absolutely horrible hotel. Terrible service. The line at the front desk took forever at 3 when check in first opened, again at 5 and then again at 1 AM. I called guest services 7 times without once getting somebody to pick up the phone. The air conditioning was not helpful at all, the room was easily 78+ even with the AC on the highest setting. The entire building smells and is dirty except for the lobby. My room had white stains all over the floor and the carpet was even pulled up at one part against the wall. The desk in my room still had crumbs on it. Nothing feels clean. Do not stay here. There are plenty of other hotels nearby that can offer the same convenient location and do everything much better. WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN.

Check in took almost an hour waiting in line with luggage. But was able to check in and out a bit early/late. The room is basic, okay for one night and spacious but filthy carpet, kept shoes on, a very motel feel. They offered an upgrade to their renovated roomful for $57 which we declined since at least the bed and shower seemed clean. Great location though and cheaper than many others in the area. The gym had some old equipment but good enough to use for a day.

Starting with the positive, the location is fantastic. Within walking distance of loads of sights and ideal for tourists. Unfortunately it took over an hour and forty minutes for us to be checked in even though we arrived relatively late at night. On arrival the police were attending to a disorderly incident in the lobby and there were homeless people sat around in the reception area. The room was sizable but dated. Cleanliness could be significantly improved as there was visible dust around the room, the towels were stained and the bathroom wasn't clean. The shower wouldn't maintain a temperature and would return itself to the hottest setting as you showered. The hotel has no restaurant or bar facilities, so the breakfast voucher is redeemable at a cafe around the corner. This entitles you to a pastry/bagel/muffin and a coffee. With no point of reference for American hotels I can't judge, but I would be complaining in a European hotel if the conditions matched this hotel.

They are renovating, if you are going to come ask to be on the first option on the 13th floor, second option on the 12th floor

An excellent location to explore Manhattan on foot, although it could use a good renovation!

Had a two night stay at this hotel was impressed aside from what the reviews say. Our room was spacious enough for 4 people, also cleanly. Housekeeping came by to ensure room was clean. Hotel is right in the middle of the city, walking distance to many things. We were able to grab breakfast right across the street (not the exaggerated block away). They also have stores within the hotel lobby for convenience. Check in took a total of 15 minutes on a friday night, desk staff was friendly. Extra toiletries were supplied when requested. A refrigerator would have been nice but all in all, our stay was wonderful. Its a wonder how far kind words and a nice demeanor get you.

I am very late in reviewing but worst hotel we have ever been to. Rooms are in very bad condition and staff is also poorly trained.

My wife and I stayed there twice in 2019 and the first trip was great. I think we were in room 999. It had a great view of the Empire State. The second visit started off less than perfect. Our room was one of the "vintage" ones and we did NOT like it. My wife spoke with a manager and he swapped our room for a more modern one. There was no hesitation or arguing. We stayed 3 days both times and I can't complain. The location was awesome (across from MSG), Target on one side, several restaurants within walking distance and "The Big Macy's" 2 blocks away. We would stay there again if COVID allows.

Excellent location but an ordinary place for stay. The bed during my last stay was broken, no one fixed it for a week. Check in takes a million years, morning breakfast queues result in confusion. I would recommend to stay some place else. It is worst value for the money.

Fantastic location. Rooms are small, comfortable, and affordable. TV selections is standard, with Chromecast, which is fantastic. The included breakfast is good, and is located across the street. Docked it a star because the climate controls don't work (it is February and cold, and the room was hot in the room so we had to crack the window to get it comfortable) and the window also doesn't have blackout curtains. Would definitely recommend staying here again.

Long queue to check in. No early check in available however the lobby was spacious and a bag drop was available. Mostly secure atmosphere, staff were friendly. Room was small and simple. Not the best hotel but worth the low room rate.

I'll admit: I was a little hesitant staying here. The reviews are not great, but the price was up my alley as I needed to stay one more day in NYC, and the Paramount - my first hotel - could not accommodate me. I booked one of the Penn's newly renovated King Suites, and let me say, I had looooooooow expectations. The check in was excruciatingly long, which is why I'm giving this review four stars and not five, but as soon as I arrived in my room, I was pleasantly surprised. The entire room was clean, spacious and the bed was comfortable. The room offered more space than my first room at the prior hotel. Whatever the hotel is doing in its renovations, it's working. The staff was friendly and I definitely enjoyed staying here. Not sure what the other rooms are like, but I definitely think staying here in the newly renovated suites is worth it. Regardless, enjoy your time in NYC!

Room was clean and housekeeping staff were very friendly. Long lines at check in, but their book direct offer saved me a lot of money. Free drink coupons and continental breakfasts for every morning of stay. Each floor has comfortable lounge seating. Beautiful lobby.

Long waiting times at the check-in, the rooms could be cleaner, but the staff is very nice, the location is awesome and the rooms are affordable. Overall our stay was good and i would book this hotel again.
