Not bad. For a hotel that’s 80 years old it wasn’t to bad. The walls were kind of thing the environment felt dated in the rooms but being in the heart of it all and a stones throw from Madison Square Garden made it worth what we paid. There are nicer hotels but you can not beat the hotels location. Also the staff was friendly having a restaurant that can deliver to your room 24/7 is something you do not get in very many hotels! View from our room was really cool especially at night!

We had an AMAZING experience! As a rewards member, we received an upgraded room. Our room was spacious and clean. Even in the middle of the busy city, we slept soundly & comfortably. The diner provided a delicious & affordable breakfast. We were also able to store our luggage for the day for a nominal fee.

Friendly and helpful personnel. Room was clean and nice but a little too small for my liking. Comfortable beds but pillows too hard. View was nice. Enjoyed museum of the New Yorker Hotel located downstairs from lobby. Quite informative. Good location but you can hear all the traffic outside and constant sirens! Unfortunately I won't be coming back to this hotel as I was very disappointed in room size, pillows and noise. I feel I didn't get what I paid for.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Staff are amazing! So helpful & you feel safe here! Fees & deposit is reasonable & best I've seen in NYC! The restaurants are nice a little pricey but worth it, and so much around for people to enjoy! Would definitely stay here again! Rooms are basic but i love the decor & how everything is set out! Thanks For An Amazing Stay!

We had two rooms. We were allowed early check-in to one of our rooms, we appreciated this. When we arrived and entered the room we found that it was occupied. We returned to the desk and we were assigned a new room. The rooms were clean enough but need some updating, the caulking in the shower in room 2419 was cracked and missing. The halls were dark and in need of updating. The beds and linens were very comfortable. The heat would not work in the rooms and it was a bit to cool in the rooms older folks. All members of the hotel staff were kind. The Tick Tock Diner sucked...service and food. The location is very good. The historic aged part of the hotel is fun and interesting but this hotel is just that historic and in many ways that shines through with your experience, It is not pristine. If you are looking for perfection this is not the place for you. OH AND THEY HAVE THOSE HIDDEN FEES HERE... I hate hidden fees.

Location: Top notch location right in Midtown Manhattan. Nearby to many subway stations, convenience store and a walking distance to the attractions (if you enjoy walking). Service: Excellent service by every staff. The staff at the check-in counter were polite, helpful and friendly. Security staff were consistently checking everyone was a guest prior to entering the elevator so security and safety is maintained. Room: Clean and equipped with what’s ordinarily needed. Standard room size is a bit small but that’s understandable in Manhattan.

Great hotel, great prices great location. Stayed here for 6 nights for Christmas and it was great. Staff all wear masks and they check your room key before you get on elevator so I felt safe. The rooms are small, but very nice and clean. All the staff are nice and helpful and the diner downstairs has good food for the price. Would definitely recommend for the location and pricing.

Living in a hotel with nearly 100 years' history evokes mixed thoughts and emotions. To have a better city view, I made a request for a room on a relatively high floor, then the staff at the reception directly gave me a queen room on the 33rd floor, which is pretty good. The queen room is clean and neat, with working fridge and good air conditioners. By the way, 33rd floor is also where the great scientist Tesla lived in during his stay in this same Wyndham New Yorker Hotel, so it's not trivial. Down in the basement of the hotel building, there are lots of historical documents and photographs showing stories of Wyndham Hotel in the past, making the trip more meaningful. About the service, staff members at the reception, the cleaners, are always friendly. The gorgeous decor of the entrance hall is also dedicate, giving the hotel a touch of style. All in all, it's a nice stay and I think it also adds some color to my trip to Manhattan.

Room freshly decorated and thoroughly cleaned daily. The bathroom fittings and bedroom fixtures and furniture are consistent with the age of the hotel. They look old fashioned - 1930s perhaps - but they work well and if you like retention of contemporary features, it is good. Corridors and carpets look dirty and detract from the interior which otherwise is also consistent with the period of the hotel. The bed was only double - it is a small room by modern standards - but very comfortable. I would stay here again.

We loved staying here. Upgraded at check-in to a suite with a terrace. Well worth it! 26th floor. Views were amazing from Large terrace. Suite was wonderful too! Take advantage of room service! We ordered breakfast from diner downstairs and they had it to us hot and perfect in about 1/2 hour. Be nice and give a really big tip - they deserve it! Loved the old fashioned deep bath tub. So relaxing. Quiet, beautiful, elegant place. Wouldn't recommend walking about in the neighborhood too much late at night though. Ask the doorman to hail a cab for you and tip him 5 bucks or so. Worth it.

I stayed at the New Yorker for a 4 night getaway with my 2 daughters & adult granddaughter. We received a complimentary upgrade to a gorgeous suite with an amazing view. The staff was beyond attentive to our every need, and made our stay even more fabulous. The location is fantastic, walking distance to almost everything. I highly recommend the New Yorker Hotel, you will not be disappointed.

If you’re looking for a great location then this is your hotel. Beyond that though it leaves much to be desired. The room was as small as I have ever been and not worth the cost. The cleaners were commendable and the need to show your room key card in order to get to the elevators was also appreciated. If you want a coffee maker or refrigerator in the room it’s $25 a day and a flat rate of $30 respectively. Even motels have coffee makers in the room. Ice on only 2 floors. For the price paid the location wasn’t enough to make it worth it. I could hear other people taking a shower. Room was too small for the price. The bathroom was tiny and we couldn’t keep the shower curtain closed because it wasn’t fully screwed in or wasn’t done correctly. A little shower upkeep would help. Will not be back.

The room was small, but clean, and relatively quiet (the street noise is barely noticeable overnight), and overall adequate for the stay. Generally, the premises are dated and could use some investment. The hotel is located in proximity of many landmarks, so it's easy to walk everywhere. It also has a fascinating history. There's a small gallery in the basement, that can be reached straight from the lobby down the escalators, which even though it's modest is worth taking a look at. I have two remarks regarding my stay. First, the elevators: it didn't seem like most of them were operational, and you can easily wait for 10 minutes during busy times to get into one. My second issue was with Mr Mohammad at the hotel check-in counter, whom I've asked to produce a receipt of declined credit card transaction. The card I used for online booking wasn't accepted, and I asked if he could give me a proof of declined transaction for my records. He said he doesn't have to do it, but upon me asking for the printed proof, he printed a piece of paper showing me exactly what I wanted, and then ripped it up in front of me saying it's "his courtesy showing me the document" and "it's taking me too long to understand". When I checked out, I asked another member of staff to give me the document showing failed transaction, which she kindly did.

Disclaimer - I was here in November of 2019. The hotel lobby was beautiful, Tick Tock was definitely a bonus to have on site. The cost was decent, however, I was expecting some kind of view. The windows overlooked what must be the center of the building. Couldn't see any of the city, just another 3 walls of windows from the hotel. Was somewhat disappointed. The rooms are definitely older and we could tell that there was some serious reconfiguring years ago. The room was an odd shape and there were also three closets scattered around the room. There was also nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. But we still had a good trip. The room was clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. Next time I would make sure that we have a view.

I’m not sure when this was a 4 star hotel but it definitely is not anymore. Checking in took a long time. As soon as you get off the elevator it’s like you’ve stepped into the shining. No cap. Looks like they’re doing a remodel but they’re not. Rooms are not what they look like on booking. Com. I got in mine and it was the bed and four walls 12” off the side of each bed. Location is eh. Wouldn’t be surprised if this place was haunted. Wouldn’t recommend.

I liked the Art-deco style of this hotel. I reserved two rooms and only one of them was ready at my arrival (6pm). I had to wait an hour and a half for the second room and because of the wait, they upgraded my second room which was appreciated. The rooms were clean. The morning of my third day started with a giant cockroach in the bath. My go pro accessories disappeared from the room. I only noticed when I was packing everything and leaving. Everything is walkable from this location. My first room was small, with no coffee and not really a view (the window was facing other windows) which I guess was expected with the price I paid. The second room was bigger. I had a better experience in the Carnegie Hotel and even the POD Times Square in the last 3 years for the same price.

This place certainly isn't perfect or the biggest luxury in the area, but it's so convenient when arriving by train, and it's an excellent value in an awesome location. I feel it is safe because they always have staff making sure only guests go up the elevators. The rooms are clean and comfortable, albeit relatively basic. Given the location, it is reasonably quiet. Heater and water heating are a little quirky but nothing that isn't manageable. I think it's a great value for a safe and clean stay.

Cleanliness: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Comfort: 4/5 Noise: 4/5 Overall: A great location next to Penn station. Unfortunately it’s a little run down in the hallways but the room was nicer. I got in super early and the cost for an early check in was $75 and the bag check was $5 a bag. NY is expensive and hotels follow suit! The extended review... Cleanliness: 4/5 - The room had clean linens and towels. Service: 4/5 - Front desk was friendly albeit a little slow. Comfort: 4/5 - The room was a little compact but it was comfortable and I had a good night of sleep. Noise: 4/5 - Not very noisy at all.

Had an absolutely wonderful stay. Staff were really helpful and nice. The decor of the hotel has a historic aesthetic to it that gave it a New York charm. Great location near Penn Station, the subway and nearby amenities. Rooms are a bit tiny and definitely is only for 1 person/2 people, but I believe that would be the notoriously famous size of most places in NYC. Great price for the location.

Clean room with daily housekeeping, which was quickly responsive to requests. I checked in early (3p) and was given a room with a view I found wanting. Asked for and received a new room. The room was cozy, which is not unusual for NYC. Had prompt attentive service at both the on-site diner and the fancy basement bar. Great location for public transport. Appreciated both the deco style and hotel history display in the basement. Room key required to get to guest elevator. Not the hippest or fanciest hotel but great value for cost

Rooms were very dated, carpet looks run down and dirty. Linens were very crisp and clean. Staff was courteous and friendly. Rooms don’t offer even a mini fridge, to get a room with one to store my gluten free food I had to pay $40/day extra. And they charge to hold luggage at the concierge $5 per piece. I have never stayed in a hotel that charges that, only NYC. Location is ok but I wouldn’t really say Times Square.

Super close to Penn Station, MSG, and a short walk to Times Square. Is it older style? Yes, but that’s part of the charm and I love the Art Deco design. Lots of history and interesting facts about this hotel. Room was small, but perfect for 2. Very clean! Front desk and information staff was very helpful and friendly. Love that they have security before entering elevators. Will definitely be back!

One of the main issues with the hotel is that only 2 out of 5 lifts seem to actually be running for floors 20-40, despite no signs showing lifts out of order. The best tip is to just get in any lift, even if it is going up when you want to go down. Once you are in a lift and others have got out you can go down to the lobby area. The lobby area has an art deco vibe, and is quite grand and for those looking in, the hotel appears to be quite grand. Although Hotel Room floors gives Cecil hotel vibes.. But in New York very eerie, dark and dated. I have stayed at this Hotel twice, once around 10 years ago and most recently on a group tour so kinda knew it would just be okay nothing great. We were at least given a twin room which they didn't offer last time we had visited, rooms had safes inside now also which was much better than the previous deposit box system. Hotel room was fine, a little dated but basics like a coffee machine and items included seemed limited especially for what is considered a 4 star hotel. Not sure how the rating system works. Didn't speak to many staff as on tour, however did have to show door key each time entering the lifts of the hotel, which suggests there are security issues. Also we were offered a welcome pack, whilst we were leaving the hotel. No idea what it included but would have been better to give it on arrival.

The location of this hotel is in Midtown, right next to Madison Square Garden and the major travel hubs of Penn Station etc. If you are looking to stay in Midtown it is the perfect location. However, I am not a fan of Midtown. It is the touristy part of the city, meaning its the dirtiest and a bit sketchy. The hotel itself has excellent staff but it needs a makeover. The rooms were outdated, no coffee machines or fridges (I think you have to pay extra for these) and there was chips in the paint, cracks in the wallpaper and the room itself is very dark. The one plus of the room was that the beds were clean and so was the room itself. The lobby is lovely but once you get off the elevators to the hallways , it's very spooky and dim. Some of the floors are also for college student living. I want to stress that they were not noisy and were no bother at all, but I know some travelers may find people living at the hotel odd in itself. Overall, this hotel is fine for a few days if you want to save some money. The staff are great but there is no sense of luxury about The New Yorker

We had a wonderful experience! The hotel is conveniently located. We took the train in from Albany, emerged from Penn Station and looked right at the hotel. We were given an upgrade to a suite, and the room and view were outstanding. The room was dated in some ways, but it was immaculately clean. The view of the Empire State Building was also fantastic. We felt very safe and secure with the constant monitoring and card checking at the elevators, and all the staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly. The only negative I can come up with was that the bathroom, especially the shower, isn’t designed for anyone above 5’8”, maybe, and at 6’0”, I had to duck to wash my hair. There were also some small cosmetic issues (one knob was missing on the desk drawer, the porcelain in the tub was definitely showing age). But we also loved the art deco style and feel, especially the cool star lights!

Hotel was great for the cost. Location is fantastic if you are going to the garden. Review is unfortunately low because a employee walked into my room at 8:30am or so while I was changing. No knock just came right in. I confirmed with the desk staff that checkout is at 11am so he really had no business being in my room.

The Wyndham New Yorker hotel didn’t disappoint! We spent a quick one night stay in Manhattan before heading out to Long Island for a funeral. The location is the best. Lots of good bars/restaurants within close walking distance. We never felt unsafe and enjoyed having lots of people around at all times. It’s a very cool hotel as far as appearance also. There are even some art deco touches that appear to be leftover from its original days. The two double bed city view room was quite large for a room in the city - even had two closets which was unusual. The only negative was no mini fridge or microwave. We will definitely stay there again in the future.

The hotel shows its age, but for location and amenities, it is a good choice. Our room was small, clean, and met our needs. Having the Tick Tock Diner in the same building was a big plus, too. Seems to be popular with travelers from around the world which gives the hotel an interesting ambiance. It’s proximity to Penn Station very handy.

My family and I stay here 9 times out of 10. The people watching in the lobby is the best as it's basically across the street from MSG. Always fun to see if we can determine who is playing at MSG based on who is in the lobby! But the staff are always the most pleasant anywhere no matter where you encounter them throughout the facility. The two restaurants are ideal for all needs and meals. It's an old hotel and you can see that in the rooms although they are always clean and neat. I like the personality that the age of the building has given the rooms (maybe a bit of a lip to get into the bathroom, or backward faucets, etc). The pricier rooms (ones on the upper floors with balconies or the suites) seem more updated and more like you'd find in a newer hotel. The rewards program mounts up pretty quickly, too, so we get discounted rooms fairly quickly.

The hotel staff was the absolute best ! They were kind and helpful. They offered us a room upgrade and it was perfect for our family . The security made us feel very safe. The location is right beside the subway and in walking distance to Times Square . The food at the hotel was delicious and room service was quick! We will definitely be back and our family will stay at the New Yorker every time we do ! Thank you for making our first time in New York special !

Hotel has a beautiful lobby, check in/out was easy. Hotel staff was friendly, housekeeping was very nice and very fast. Security makes sure of your safety by asking for your hotel key card every time you go back to your room. The rooms were a bit SMALL but we made it work for 2 of us. Location is perfect, walking distance to all main attractions. Only down side is the ELEVATORS, seems like there is always a line to use one. The hotel could use some upgrading.

The hospitality provided by the hotel staff was nothing short of excellent! They were courteous and reliable, even offering us a room upgrade that fit our family just right. We appreciated the secure atmosphere provided by the security team. The hotel's location is conveniently right next to the subway station and a short stroll to Times Square. The food available at the hotel tasted delightful, and room service was impressively swift! We're certainly returning, and The New Yorker will be our preferred place to stay every time we visit! Thank you for adding a touch of magic to our inaugural New York adventure!

We had a great stay here for 4 nights, the location was great and we found it handy as the subway was right across the road. The room was basic but cosy and had everything we needed. The staff were all really friendly and we were lucky enough to get a slight upgrade due to it being a trip for our honeymoon/wedding anniversary. The foyer is strikingly beautiful, don’t forget to look up! Highly recommend!

As other reviewers have said, it is definitely a mixed bag. It is a beautiful historic art deco building close to Penn Station- which were the primary draws for us. The beds and linens are clean and comfortable, albiet small for doubles. The rooms are clean, though small and dated. We supposedly paid more for a larger "metro view" room. If this is larger I'm afraid of what is "normal". To be fair though, the view is incredible. We are on the back side of the elevators and they are LOUD all night long as are our neighbors. The shower is scary- every few seconds you will get a burst of scalding hot water no matter what you have it set on. As far as the surrounding area-yes, there are lots of tourists and it is a busy area, but some side streets feel pretty shifty. They do have security in the lobby though, which is helpful. If you are doing something at Madison Square it is probably the closest you can get. Overall, I expected some quirks, as we enjoy staying at historic hotels, but I am certainly wondering if we could have done better for the price.

Location, location, location! We’ve stayed here twice to attend events at Madison Square Garden and love that it’s just a short walk from Penn Station AND to the Garden. Built in the 1920s the lobby and exterior have retained much of its art deco style. The hotel is neat and clean but, past the lobby, it’s becoming a bit dated. The rooms are small but many have great views. The staff we dealt with were great - especially Jimmy J. @ the front desk🙌🏻🥇 I would stay here again!

I am not one to write reviews but not sure how else to share our horrible experience at this place, hopefully management sees and addresses it although I am doubtful. Service: Honestly nothing was particularly notable until the very end of our stay. The guest services desk was super busy and they were doing the best they could. We had to call the desk for an issue with the thermostat - no one showed up but thankfully google exists. The reason I am writing this review is because we had a horrible experience at the luggage storage desk that was the cherry on top of a bad stay. The woman working the desk on 11/16/23 was extremely disrespectful. When we dropped off our bags they rushed us out of the way, throwing the luggage tags at us. When we came to pick them up later she did not greet at all - demanded “tags.” We weren’t sure we had been given any receipt earlier during the chaos (this was our fault but expected more mutual respect than we got). She quickly raised her voice and started rolling her eyes at us. She was nearly yelling by the time we located our luggage tag receipt and made no effort to describe what it would look like and did not provide any option to get our bags back should the receipt have been lost. The man that was working with her was trying to rectify the situation but she wouldn’t let him speak. We had tipped them 25% when we dropped the bags off and were surprised by the disrespectful treatment. Room: Our room wasn’t filthy to the eye but had a smell - like it had not been cleaned in a long time. It smelled noticeably like body odor and s*x. The rug smelled dirty and was actually sticky to the touch. The bedspreads had mystery brown stains on them. It was nearly 80 degrees when we checked in and the thermostat was not working well. The ice machines were out of service on our floor as well. The room was also very small - to be expected for the location but thought I’d mention.

Drove 12 hrs to the New Yorker was told this was a great hotel. My wife called 3 weeks previous to double check our reservation. She was told we were getting an upgrade from a 2 double bed to a family suite. Our Wyndham App showed exactly that. We arrived early for check in and was informed our room wasn’t ready please come back. We came back at 1pm and same answer, we came back at 5:30pm and was given our original room, we asked about the upgrade and was informed since I was using points that the remaining suites are for paying guest and we can wait for 2 days before getting something equal to the suite. So honoring points that are earned has no value. Great location but not the greatest customer service.

Everyone I interacted with was very nice and helpful. As a diamond member, I was able to get a suite upgrade to a room with an amazing view on the top floor. The maintenance guy who came to switch out a light bulb was really friendly, as was the team who managed the 40th floor. The hotel is older, so the room had some dated elements, but that is to be expected. It was clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed our stay and found the whole experience very nice.

Quintessential NYC hotel. I’ve stayed here many times and when visiting the city I always will. Love the old school charm, furnishings, elevators, staff, great food options, location….. everything about this hotel is cool. If you need a coffee maker or microwave in your room then I suggest you stay elsewhere. But if you want charm and a great vibe then The New Yorker is your spot!

Convenient location, quiet rooms, comfortable bed, but could do with a refresh. Shower leaked everywhere and there was no safe in my room. When you arrive they tell you there is a mandatory $40.17 "cleaning fee" that doesn't show up anywhere in the booking process when you book and pay through Google Hotels. Google confirmed that the hotel is acting shady and promised to credit me this amount back. Definitely felt like a scam.

Kudos to all the staff doing their best to keep their customers satisfied, from the front desk people to housekeeping and security! Overall this hotel is a great deal for a safe overnight stay on Manhattan right outside the Penn Station / Madison Square Garden. Hence, the commuting is easy and enjoyable, but it gets as busy as it could inside the hotel itself.

Don't forget to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ. ᴄᴏᴍ when booking a hotel. They compare thousands of booking websites and typically will have rates much cheaper than others! Thank me later on! This resort is one of my favorites in the area. I have been coming here for a very long time. If you choose this place you for sure will love it I'm sure! I was in New York City handling affairs and had a pleasant experience here. The hotel is clean and the staff was professional. They allowed for an early check-in, which was good.

When I stayed here, I just loved the view from my room. The hotel is nice and clean. The beds were comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

The only good thing about it is location. Room was extremely small, smelled liked old bed sheets. Bathroom barely fits one person. There is fee for absolutely every little thing. Awesome location but that's it.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at the New Yorker. Highly recommend this hotel! It was clean and tidy with nice service. We loved the ArtDeco style and beauty of lobby, elevators and the room. This place is like a step back in time, but don't worry - the amenities and service is up to date! Comfy beds, hot showers and good internet. It's also walking distance to the heart of the city. We loved our stay and will chose the New Yorker for our next visit!

The staff was amazing, the location is great, it's a 20-minute walk from Grand Central, Bryant Park, right across from MSG. The bed and room were OK, the decor, rugs, were dated and well used. The main issue was the bathroom. There was no partition for the shower, two drains on the bathroom floor, which meant the whole bathroom floor was covered in water. The bathroom floor was dirty. If we were going to spend more time in the room, I would have asked for another room. We have stayed here before, and our precious stays were not this disappointing as far as the room was concerned.

My room was small but adequately sized for one person. It was nicely furnished, and the bed was comfortable. I had a corner room with a great view of Eighth Avenue. The New Yorker will be my go-to hotel on future NYC trips.

I did an unexpected reservation for 5 hrs since my other reservation in another hotel got cancel so I end up with this hotel using Dayuse.com. The sheets where dirty, it smelled like feces. I really had a bad day with the other Hotel and I just didn’t want to argue. End up removing the sheets. It was my first time in this hotel and won’t come back here either. In other hotel I have better service and quality for cheaper.

Not horrible but not somewhere I'd go back to. The hotel rooms are extremely small, 1/2 the elevators weren't working, and it feels very dirty. My biggest issue is 24/7 in our room there was noise from inside the building; it was never quiet. It sounded like someone was upstairs moving furniture all day and night. Also this hotel is weird. 1/2 the hotel is a dorm for college students?

  • 3/5 Mister T. 3 months ago on Google New
Yes great location and clean rooms but the outdated part completely destroys the greatness of the hotel. I believe you can keep the beautiful history while updating to a more modern establishment. The bathrooms were definitely not a selling point. I would recommend if you are a bigger person don’t book this hotel.

I was staying in the Hotel for business trip. On first day when I was taking bath. All of sudden water stop coming from the shower. I was in the middle of bath with Foam all over on my Body. I have to find a bottle and complete the bath by filling water in bottle. I compliant twice at help desk and once via phone but no resolution at all. Finally after expressing my concern at help desk they agree to change the room. It was a horrible experience in my life and never ever happened to me in any hotel stay. I will never recommend this hotel to any one.

We stay at the hotel the 3. time again. The service is friendly and fast. The rooms are clean and the room cleaning is every day. It is a historic hotel, so some things are old. But we love this very much. If you need help for activities in NYC the concierge will help you. We will come back as soon as possible. Thank you for the amazing day’s.

  • 5/5 Mike F. 5 months ago on Google
Pleasantly surprised at the hotel. Reviews seemed middling. The hotel is very busy. Wait times for the elevators can be longish. The staff are very friendly and the rooms were large and clean. The bathroom was a bit tired but also clean. I got lucky with a high room and a view of the Empire State building. The Tick Tock diner is good for breakfast.

We had a great stay this past weekend. The staff is friendly and helpful. Jose checked us in and he was a delight to speak with. We needed some information on getting to Battery Park and the Concierge was so detailed in explaining which subway train to catch. We grabbed a breakfast from the Diner one morning and a dinner at the Italian restaurant on another night and both had good food. Dinner service was great after a long day of sightseeing and just wanting to be close to the hotel. Location was amazing and we really didn't realize how close we were to everything until we got there....this is central to everything! We look forward to coming back again and staying here.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Worst hotel experience I've ever encountered. Threatened by Barry Rauch, Samara & Michael at the front desk. Gave me $32 off. I am sick from exposure to black mold in our room. STAY AWAY I have over 9,000 characters in a document of everything down to the conversations we had with management. Stay away from this hotel. It's disgusting. It also operates as low income student housing and a homeless shelter (we found out online and from a local) I've never felt more unsafe in an environment from the staff and the people in the building. Absolutely abhorrent behavior from the management and I will be posting everything far and wide. I am just taken aback by what we experienced. I expect a full refund compensation. This was severely overpriced and definitely not a 4 star hotel. Yelp has videos of what we experienced. I am now being treated for black mold & am on medicine to treat it. Beware of this hotel.

This is our fourth time staying at the New Yorker and it definitely didn't disappoint. It's convenient to the train station (literally across the street), Macy's and Times Square. We were even able to walk to our Broadway Theater this time around. Most importantly though, The staff was friendly and helpful and especially welcoming to our kids. The diner downstairs has become a staple for us. Diner type dishes but everything tastes fresh and well made.

Hotel is at a prime location for an exceptional price. We ended up coming earlier than anticipated and they gave us a bigger room so we could check in right away! Everyone was super helpful our entire stay we will absolutely be returning our next visit💛

Location hotel is good. From our room on the 23rd floor we had a beautiful view of the Empire State building. In addition, good connection with public transport, close to Penn station. Cons: the rooms are very old. You hear everything from the neighbors.

  • 3/5 Danoby O. 2 years ago on Google
Pro: Great location, fantastic housekeeping for the room. Awesome Art-Deco styling. Love the water pressure you get especially since I stayed on the 22 floor. Con: The biggest disappointment, is the elevator situation. It seemed out of the 5 dedicated to express to floors 20-40 they only had 2-3 working while the others were down for service. It wasn't just one day, but my whole 5 day stay. One day front desk had to run a group of us through the house keeping elevators to to the faulty down cars and the high back up of people waiting to get to their rooms. It really felt like such a huge inconvenience leaving and returning to my room. Not to mention, pray your room isn't located to an elevator service room. They are quite loud!

This hotel was a great value for the money. It was walkable to Times Square, Penn Station and the subwayu. There were many great restaurants around. The room was small, but clean and comfortable. I really wish there were coffee makers in the room. There was a Starbucks in the lobby and one across the street.

BEWARE ***** The worst experience I’ve had at a hotel in my entire life. Firstly, when we arrived we were greeted by a lady with long black hair and large glasses ( probably one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had) she was extremely rude for no reason, and was very condescending towards our group. (We are all in our mid 20s, not sure if she just thought she could get away with it). But we checked into one of the rooms, and were greeted with a double bed instead of a queen, probably the smallest room we have ever seen in a hotel (no walking space at all) and a disgusting bathroom ( the water was running brown for minutes). After talking to the front about our concerns, we were informed the room was by New York standards a queen. After voicing our discomfort with the rooms, we were yelled at by the lady who checked us in, and were told that we didn’t know what we were talking about. After speaking about cancelling, the lady told us to make sure we could afford going to another hotel (?). When we asked to speak to another person, she said no and said we could only talk to her. When we tried to tell her we just wanted to communicate and come to a solution with her, she abruptly got up and went somewhere (no clue where). Overall, the experience we had with this hotel was disgusting, filthy and disheartening as we had to find another hotel to stay the night. The next hotel was a much better experience. I would stay away from this one.

Maybe 4 stars means something different in Manhattan, but I definitely would not consider this a 3 star hotel. For what I paid I can't complain too much, but looking at the prices as of today I can't imagine paying that much for the room I got. I got the basic queen room, it was extremely small, no small appliances at all(microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, etc.), and my "view" was just staring directly into another room across from me. The bathroom barely had any counter space, and everything in it was clearly several decades outdated. That being said, I didn't have any MAJOR problems, and the location was good. Staff was extremely nice and helpful too. If you can get a room for ~$150 a night like I did it's a decent choice, but don't pay $300+ like the rates right now are showing me.

  • 4/5 Janet J. 2 years ago on Google
Third time staying at The New Yorker. Rates are reasonable. Location is perfect if you are traveling by bus (Port Authority is about 3-4 blocks) or by train (Penn Station is 1 block away). We like coming into EWR and the train from there takes you straight to NY Penn. Staff is welcoming and accommodating. Beds were comfortable. Rooms and bathroom were clean. Stay on an upper floor if you can, views are nice!!

When I checked in, the receptionist was very unfriendly and the room was not clean. The bed side was sticky and you can see dust never be cleaned. Only good thing is right next to train station but be careful there are enough homeless and I did feel dangerous they may attack people, luckily police were around. If I come New York, I definitely will not stay here again. By the way early check in they charge $50, keep luggage $5 each.

It’s ok. I was there just because it’s close to the train station. Only takes 5 minutes to walk. The room is small but clean. It’s really easy to lost inside. Feels like in a maze. That’s amazing 😵‍💫

Very cool art-deco building. Rooms are nice size and furnished as close as possible to match the style of the building. Bathrooms are very small, which is typical of hotels this old, but really cool period fixtures. Excellent location, which is a quick one block walk to Moynahan Station/Penn Station. Great staff.

Absolutely stunning hotel, especially if you love hotels with a bit of history. The beds were extremely comfortable, rooms were clean. We managed to score a room with two separate bathrooms, they were small but adequate enough for our needs. Ours needed updating, and the window needed repairing but it wouldn't stop me from staying here again given the opportunity.

Really friendly staff and easy check in process. Please be aware they do want a deposit on your card on check in. View from the hotel room was lovely, rooms were clean and quiet, lift was fast however sometimes you had to wait a little for the lift down. Excellent location, 10-15 minute walk from times square and right next to the subway. We were quite happy to find on arrival that staff from the airline we travelled with were also staying at this hotel (which is always a good sign!). Will definitely stay here again on my next visit :) We paid $30 for a fridge in our room which was helpful!

Great location for Hudson Yards business trip. Rooms were dated but clean and comfortable. Art deco historic hotel that some will love but overall dated and could do with significant upgrades. Although noisy (show my a Manhattan hotel that isn't), I can't fault the location and service.

  • 2/5 Laura S. 1 year ago on Google
I would not recommend this hotel and I won't be staying again. The room walls are paper thin, you can hear everything your neighbors are doing, flushing the toilet, showering, flipping the light switch on, and their morning alarms. You can hear it all. The water pipes are old and so noisy so you can hear them all through the night and day. The room it's self needed refurbishment badly. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls in various spots. The bathroom was not clean, hair was left around the sink on arrival. I slept badly almost every night here. The only good thing thing about the hotel is the location which is right in the hustle and bustle of NYC. That said the location alone is not enough of a reason to have me stay here again. I won't be returning.

I stay at this hotel every time I visit New York. It’s within walking distance of Times Square, Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, but “away” enough that you get a little more peace when you’re done for the day. The rooms are small but you’ll find that at most every hotel in the area. Always clean though! The staff has always been super nice. I love the fitness center. It’s also nice that you have to show a hotel key to use the elevator, so you know it’s private/safe! I always recommend this place.

Amazing staff, so friendly. Honestly I’ve never been in a building with that many floors. When we hot up to our room I had a panic attack. They put us in a lower floor immediately no questions asked. Front desk staff were amazing. Manager was amazing. So kind, so helpful. Honestly the people working at the hotel were what made it all amazing and we would come back again for the staff alone

Muhammad the older guy at the front desk was very professional from start to end. He also recognized me as diamond member and made our stay so nice. He even called me when a room was available for me and my gf to go into and that made our trip so much easier. This hotel is nice in my opinion. Its old an look but I like the originality. Also had a nice view of city and nice workers there. We will be back for sure!

First trip to NYC and I wanted to stay in a hotel with character, The New Yorker has all that. The customer service that I got was very impressive. I had some confusion on my end with payment, the hotel manager himself called and made it convenient for me in what I was trying to accomplish. He even gave me detailed direction on getting to the hotel. It is an older hotel with the older style of customer service. We all know customer service is very different now, The New Yorker still has that 1 on 1 that will make you feel safe and like you are somebody not just anybody.. Top recommendation for NYC.

  • 5/5 Jessica B. 9 months ago on Google
The rooms are small by most hotel standards, but for NYC, they're roomy. There's no mini fridges unfortunately, but everything was clean and the staff are friendly. The hotel is close to Times Square, the Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building (and therefore also the Harry Potter store). And because it's pretty centrally located, you're like at most a 30 min commute from the extremes ends Manhattan. 34th and Penn Station is literally right at the corner.

This hotel is in a great location. Just a moderate walk to Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Central Park and some of the main feature high risers. We had a great stay which was made even more special because the hotel manager Michael upgraded us to the Mohammed Ali suite!! This is a must see. The site was fantastic and was spacious enough for the three of us. We would definitely recommend this hotel and all of the attentive staff.

The staffs were great and amazing, but the hotel itself is completely outdated and needed serious renovation. One of the double beds in my room had a broken spring that stuck out on the bedside, and it scratched my leg badly and caused an injury. The room also has zero sound proof, and you’d enjoy New York’s police and ambulance’s loud sirens every day until 4 am in the morning. But soon after that, you’d enjoy the construction noises and car horns in the morning. Though I liked the staffs, I’m never coming back to this hotel again for its affordable price until they renovate the rooms.

Located right at the Garment District, around the corner from Liberty Bagels, Madison Square Garden, and Penn Station. I chose this hotel because a few years ago I was in NYC to buy fabric and no place would let me use the bathroom. These folks did even though I was t staying there. The hotel is an old art deco building and the staff are delightful! The only complaint I had was no coffee in the room.

  • 1/5 Penny L. 8 months ago on Google
Had difficulties getting checked into the room. Apparently the clerk needed to see the second persons ID, not the one who made reservations, for security purposes. Rooms were tiny, musty smelling, bathroom had paint chips on floor. Bathroom ceiling was chipping and behind bathroom door bubbling and chipping paint. Person sitting outside of our room with a six pack of beer and food. Overflowing garbage can outside of our room. Someone riding a motorized scooter on 25th floor through the hallways. On an early departure witnessed and heard security letting people in to elevator access without room keys. Then was charged 3 times the amount we were quoted for the room. Nice location, good view from room. One night stay not worth the room rate, over charging and the chaos and potential security issues.

The location is just so fantastic and so is the history but I have to say it was the people working there that made my stay absolutely amazing. Shoutout to Mohammad who accommodate my many requests with a smile, good spirits, and grace. Horrible, over priced and out dated. Room looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in years. Lots of dust, hair, and musty and humid. Supposed to be a city view but the only thing you can see is the building across the street and a glimpse of Madison Square Garden. The location may be great for some travelers, but it’s a busy intersection with Penn Station and subway right here. Construction on 8th has most sidewalks closed and makes walking difficult. The lobby is small and was packed with airline attendants at check in. There was also a group of entitled guests trying to hold a photo shoot, which clogged check for other guests. The hotel is disappointing. The building is too big - they do better to reduce the volume of rooms and focus on quality for the price we pay to stay. The single queen room is barely big enough for the bed and a single traveler - it would be even worse with a family or couple.

When we arrived we were greeted by the manager and got a really nice corner room on the 31st floor. We had a nice view, the room was spacious and clean. All the staff is very friendly and helpful. The big hotel has many facilities and the location is right where you want to be. There are 2 restaurants, a hidden bar and even a Starbucks in the hotel. It’s a big hotel with many rooms, this resulted in waiting times at the elevators, but this is a small con.

Yep, it's all 5 stars - for normal people with a reasonable budget. The location is excellent, the hotel is very New York. A little tired, but everything is working and we loved it. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. It's not actually 5 star, it just felt like it.

All around a “decent” place to stay. Nothing wrong with it, nothing to write home about. Every member of the staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms are definitely dated but great for a solo or couple traveler. Walked to 90% of the things I wanted to do but it’s still perfectly located near the bus depot, and a few subway entrances.
