Came in super excited, left feeling very meh. To start, food took ~40 minutes to arrive after ordering. They mentioned that they were trying out a new ordering system which was the reason for the wait - I’ll give them a pass on that for being upfront. But the value for the food just isn’t there. Tiny portions - even down to their Diet Coke. Burger was solid but the patty was tiny and I easily could have had another. Also an interesting choice to have no fries on the menu. All in all, place is still working out the kinks and hype is driving this hard. Fine food, but poor value and long wait times gives this 3 stars for me.

Overhyped and overpriced. The namesake Superiority Burger gets full marks for flavor, but the patty’s texture is unpleasantly mushy. I do prefer it to regular beef burgers—though, at $17 for a tiny burger with no sides, it better do at least that much. Worth trying at least once, especially for vegans and vegetarians, as it does not attempt to mimic beef. The Tofu-Fried Tofu (TFT) has too-thick breading and not all that much flavor. It’s something deep-fried and crunchy between buns. That’s it. Would not recommend. The menu felt geared towards making customers order multiple things on the menu: desserts, sides, you name it. You can’t expect to order a burger and get full from it.

Fun diner retro vibe, but it fills up quick. Got there 15 minutes after they opened and seated quickly, but half an hour later they were quoting 45 minute wait times. Service was professional and prompt. The food tasted good, but is it worth the price? Ehhhh...I get it, rent can't be cheap and vegetarian food is oddly pricier. I dunno. Hence, -1 star ding. Rating it 3 stars felt too low. We didn't try the desserts, which strangely seemed like the focus of their culinary ingenuity. Used to visit their old location which was cheaper, had more options...and was frankly tastier.

Came here with friends and waited about 30 min for a table for 4. We enjoyed all our apps, mains and desserts! I think the apps shined even more than the mains but it was all still good. I do think they’re missing out by not having fries on the menu!

Overall we both liked the side and the dessert much more than the burgers. Would definitely come just for the gelato, and especially the black sesame!

The food here is good and their superiority burger is quite delicious. I'd eat here again but mind you this is no replacement for a burger. It is definitely less heavy than a real burger and the flavors are quite well executed. I had to go to 7th Street Burger right after to confirm my thoughts. This is great as far as veggie burgers go. But if you're grading it on a scale of all burgers (meat or no meat), then I'd say it's good.

I went to SB five years ago when it was a vegan hole in the wall, and decided to check its vegetarian sit down version. We got four mains, two desserts and cocktails. The flagship superiority burger was the worst dish we got. The “burger” tasted like lentil paste. I'm also unclear how a $17 vegan Patty comes with no side. The market salad was just lettuce salad, but was very good, and the collard sandwich was nice. For dessert we got the special “ice cram” pistachio cake that was inedible, and the banana cake that wasn't anything like a cake but was tasty. Service was adequate. Will probably take me another five years to go back again.

OVERRATED! Needed a second dinner after this because portions were just too small and mouselike. Sloppy Daves (bottom) was like jarred marinara on a bun, no "meat" flavor, so sad. Superiority Burger (top right) had such a miniscule patty that multiple bites were only bun. And the bun is truly nothing special. Completely inappropriate. Please make larger patties or serve with two patties because burger bites should not be all bun. Even ronald mcdonald has bigger burger. Yuba (top left) was the highlight and only item worth trying, very unique flavors. Date shake was absurdly small, even smaller than my tap water. SAD! atmosphere and decor are great, service was also good, sadly the food is just not worth the hype. Stay tuned for the pizza review, since you will need a slice after eating here.

Kind of a weird seating arrangements here so if you have more than 2 people with you, take your food on the go, you likely won't find a seat. The burgers were pretty good, more interesting is how long these burgers have been around- one of the first vegetarian burgers out there (or vegan if you leave out the cheese). The burgers here are pretty cheap, so if cheap prices and decent veggie burgers is what you're looking for, this is the right place to be.

So, the burger. It seems better now than it was in 2015, though I can’t say whether the improvement is in the slow-roasted tomatoes, the eggless mayonnaise, the griddled buns or the thick and improbably moist patties, shaped from ground chickpeas, red quinoa, roasted carrots and walnuts, among other ingredients. Superiority Burger isn’t just more enjoyable than fast-casual chains, which isn’t hard. It’s also more engaging and alive than some restaurants that cost many times as much.

I'm sorry but I much prefer the old location. The food is good, service is fine, the prices are insane (even by NYC standards). Cocktails are incredibly basic, which is surprising given the thoughtful nature of the house sodas, and also come with a premium pricetag. There's also this weird punk rock cosplay thing that feels at odds with the fact that it costs basically $50 a head to eat there.

Ordered the tokyo megamouth burger. Was very bland. Expected some flavor but didnt meet my expectation. Havent had a lot of veggie burgers.. not sure if this should qualify for such ratings. Try to add some spicy sause and u could have a winner.

Superiority Burger is truly superior. Thank GOD they actually have homemade veggie burgers instead of the beyond or impossible stuff. The flavor of the superiority burger is next level delicious. Can I ask for a double stack next time?? Perfect burger toppings. Thanks for the vegan cheese! We also got the spicy lentils and cornbread side to share. It was also next level delicious. Best cornbread I've ever had! We visited again with a bigger group and got more sides, stuffed cabbage, sweet potato... And something else I forgot because I didn't take pictures so I can't remember. But every side was delicious. The stuffed cabbage was my favorite but everything was really yummy. I also got the yuba sandwich the second time and it was also delicious but I think I like the superiority burger better still!! Desserts we got the date shake the first time, I think it was good. Interesting flavor, but I wouldn't get it again. The second time we got the vegan sorbet, it was black sesame and hibiscus. It was interesting and good, they change flavors all the time though. Then we got the malt cake? Don't remember what it was called but DAMN it was SO good!!!! I had to share it with 4 other people so that wasn't cool. Next time I'm getting one just for myself!

I've been meaning to check out this place for a while, and it did not disappoint! The whole vibe is VERY cool, the lighting makes everything seem fun, and our waiter was lovely. I had the sloppy dave, which is a LOT of very messy food, though the mess is very much worth it. Will definitely have to try the Superiority Burger next time. I also had the ice cream for desert, which was lovely and refreshing, and wasn't TOO much ice cream, which I appreciated.

I was really excited for Superiority Burger’s return but unfortunately was disappointed. We stopped in on a Saturday, later in the evening. There was no wait for a table around 10:30. We ordered the burnt broccoli salad and superiority burger - I thought both were wayyyy too salty. If it hadn’t been so late, I would’ve gotten dessert - maybe this would’ve redeemed the meal. The mezcal lemonade was exactly was it sounds like, and not worth $17.

It’s a vegetarian place so that’s great! We ordered the house soda, superiority burger, sloppy Joe, broccoli salad, which was my favorite, spicy lentils, tasty yuba verde and stuffed cabbage. The spicy lentils and broccoli salad was tasty! Yuba verde was too bland and it was 19$ for a very small portion of bread and some veggies. the sandwiches needed some hot sauce. To me everything was overpriced. It was almost tapas size, not what you expect when you go to a burger place and the soda was $10, while it was tasty and not sweet it was a small glass and really overpriced. So the food is tasty but to me not worth the $$$$ and the 1.15 hour long wait.

Great place for vegan/vegetarian food that is interesting and unique! I recommend following their social media so you can see the limited time items they offer because those are always awesome! Be prepared to get there early or wait in line though because the food quality is not a secret. They have a significant, dedicated following of customers (because the food is so unique and delicious).

Was the food good? Yes. Was it worth the money? Absolutely not. I believe the term used to describe the burger on the menu is "megamouth sized". If a fly had a "megamouth" then perhaps that is accurate. The burger we were served was smaller than a Boca patty (with no side). The stuffed cabbage, while tasty, was little more than three bites. A bowl of lentil soup is nothing more than a small cup with a small piece of sweet cornbread (sugar has no business in cornbread). I understand NYC rent, cost of running a food establishment but just be more accurate in your descriptions if you expect to charge $20 for these items.

clean, laid back and chill atmosphere. came here before catching a show around the corner and was absolutely famished. was seated immediately by the hostess however it took a while for the server to get the order. even gave me the wrong bill, was shocked to see $80 on the receipt for just the burger i got. the food is on the bit expensive side. about $20 for the superiority burger. the portion are extremely small comparatively. only got the burger but they have an extensive menu with desserts and shakes that look amazing. will definitely come back at some point to try out the different options but was a disappointing first experience.

A short succinct menu with a few premium vegan options. At first I was a bit disappointed to only see a few. What is most exceptional is that of these their sandwiches(we ordered both) offered vegetables which are well cooked but somehow without being mush on fresh rolls. I am astonished and grateful for the treat. Whoever made our food is a wizard.

This place had outstanding vegetarian fast food in a unique atmosphere. They have great house-made burgers and other vegetarian foods that you can't really find anywhere else. Everything on the menu can also be made vegan. The seating arrangement is very odd. It consists of some benches built into the wall with tables on hinges that swing out to let you sit on the bench then swing back in kind of trapping you into your seat. The menu is small but packed with a good selection of different options for different tastes. The superior burger is delicious. It is small, so you can order it with some sides or with another sandwich. The sloppy Dave is also very tasty. It is made of tofu in a tomato sauce with fried onions. It is so messy that you have to eat it with a fork. The "new creation" is a must try. It is made out of yuba, which is tofu skin. It is chewy and tender and has a creamy sauce with pickles. It doesn't resemble anything else I've ever eaten. They have different salads and vegetables. The burnt broccoli salad is fresh, well-dressed, and has some cashew nuts in it. Perhaps best of all, they offer "superiority water" free of charge, which is NYC tap water with lemon added. If you like vegetarian fast food, this place is definitely worth a try.

Really great vegan/veg burger (quinoa based). Size is smallish but plenty sufficient for a lunch with a side or two. Also super delicious dessert that changes. Seating is very limited and there’s usually a line.

Loved the service, loved the food, loved the drinks. The burger was great but the stars of the show are the sides and desserts. Pickled beats with labneh and crushed pretzels?? Lemon polenta gelato??? I had a great time and I can't wait to come back and try more!

Far and away the best veg/an restaurant in a New York. Burger, broccoli, gelato. Classics are all waiting for u + new faves at Avenue A. Tutti fruuti pie situation is legendary. Vibe taps into past, and future nostalgia. Everyone was nice.

A verified ebullient sensation. Savor the Superiority Burger, the Collard Green Sandwich, the Yuba Verde. The fried eggplant was other-worldly. The beans with pasta fulfilling. The peanut butter pie, the griddle cake, and the boysenberry shake? Superb. We split everything. If this is your type of food, it hits hard and true. Refreshing Pimm’s Cup. Service was sweet and personalized despite being packed and busy. We waited in line in the rain for 15m before 5pm to get seated right off. Was worth it. An urgent recommend.

i loved the collard focaccia sandwich and all the sides i got, the superiority burger itself was good but nothing too special. the date shake has sweet and quite salty, it was delicious, and the cardamom ice cream was delicious as well. it was quite expensive though, i will come back but not often.

Hipster diner atmosphere with minuscule portions at fine-dining prices: $14 for a teacup of soup! $17 for a “stuffed cabbage” the size of a taquito! Food was generally decent though the yuba sandwich was slathered with a vegan mayo that made it hard to stomach after a few bites – and at $24 that‘s a hard fail. They’re too caught up in their own hype to get it right. Better to spend your money at a place that takes its customers seriously because this ain’t it.

One of my favourite vegetarian/burger places in the city. And now they have a new bigger place. The vibe is all classic. We went on a Thursday eve and were told the wait is 1-1:15 mins. They have a bar area at the back where you can wait and have cocktails. We ordered Superiority Burger and Sloppy Dave. My fav is superiority burger. Also their Griddled Banana Bread was really good, a little too salty for me but still good

Got the superiority burger, chuck bettis burger and sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were the best dish, super crispy on the outside, and super soft, almost like mashed potatoes on the inside, in a flavorful green sauce. The burgers were just ok to be honest. Would have been nice to have more flavorful sauces or something to make you say wow. I think they focus more on providing vegetarian variety and options, rather than the flavor. I've been vegetarian for over 20 years and definitely happy to see this place spreading the message!

My cousin's boyfriend took me to Superiority Burger for lunch, I'm glad he! The entire restaurant is vegetarian, and some items are vegan. This small place with seating for four and makes your food to order. I had a few questions about menu items and the staff gladly my Qs. I definitely want to eat here again on my next visit to New York.

Finally got to taste this little one. Ordered the superiority burger for $6 It's overrated, I would say. The tiny size, of course disappointed me. In terms of flavor, I would rate 3 out of 5.

  • 2/5 Marshall S. 2 years ago on Google
Doesn’t live up to the hype. Patties fell apart and had very little flavor in comparison to the plenty of other vegetarian patties I’ve had. Also overpriced for the quantity. Pop’s a block away is so much better.

VERY GOOD - i was SO pleasantly surprised by the food & I am not even vegan/vegetarian ... Get the TFT. Just do it. It is the best sandwich I have ever had. Somehow the tofu is crispy/crunchy to perfection, like crispy chicken BUT BETTER. And the sauce. It is the perfect sandwich. They have a full bar/cocktail menu on top of it. No fuss, classic cocktails - very solid, I thought. Plus very baby/kid friendly & delightful staff! <3 Will be back again and again.

LOVE this place. They had to shut down for COVID and then relocated but can’t wait for them to open again. Food is super dank, but I realllllly hope they bring their wrap back. It’s a sleeper but it’s all time, *insert chefs kiss*.

Great little burger joint. All veggie but possible to make any dish vegan as well. Loved the superiority burger - the sesame bun was delicious, salad and sauces on point. And the patty was spiced just the right amount. Perfect burger to get on the go.

  • 5/5 Alex W. 5 months ago on Google
The food was unbelievable, I experienced flavors I didn't even know were possible. I got the burger, of course, and it was a very delicious veggie burger, just the right blend of spices. Also got a dish that was brociflour and haloumi; it was spicy, earthy, and cheesy (despite being vegetarian.) The last thing I got was a gelato, two scoops, one scoop pomelo and one scoop black sesame.. If you come here absolutely get the gelato! The black sesame gelato tasted chocolatey and nutty. The food is somewhat expensive, but if you like strange and interesting new flavors and experiences it's worth it. I'll be back for sure for the burger and gelato at the very least.

Absolutely loved it and because of our visit I bought their cookbook, also a big winner! I drug my friend with me, I'm pretty sure he was not too excited to be going to a vegetarian/accidentally mostly vegan spot for lunch. But like me, he was charmed by the tiny space, the SEATING!, and the food! We were very lucky to be able to sit in the clever booths that line the wall with the swivel tabletops. There is seating for 5 people total, 6 if you and a companion are small enough to squish into the window seat. Because I knew the sides were reported to be amazing, we ordered all of them on the menu that day, including the burnt broccoli salad, a broccoli rabe dish and a beet dish. My friend ordered the Superiority burger. All of it was delicious and the price was excellent. I wish I could tell you we had dessert but I also had it on my list to visit Confectionary down the block. I will be back though and will bring my husband, a lifelong burger lover, who is now trying his best to switch to more vegan fare. Places like SB make it a lot easier!

  • 5/5 Peter S. 4 years ago on Google
Amazing counter-service vegan burger spot with a varied assortments of sides to accompany your burger. Gotta make the step up to the Mega Mouth for the bigger burger, the sauce and cheese mixture of savory and a little spice melts everything together into pure indulgence. The Burnt Broccoli Cashew Rabe is their most popular side, and for good reason, with amazing creamy umami flavoring all the way through.

  • 4/5 Phoebe Y. 3 years ago on Google
Very solid veggie burger. I’d say its a burger that non-vegetarian foodie would still find tasty. I got the SB tokyo magamouth. The patty is made of beans and it was well-seasoned with pepper & spices and very flavorful. The bun was soft and chewy. The lettuce and tomato was very fresh. I didnt quite like the amount of tomato sauce, making it a bit too acid and overwhelmed other flavors in the burger. Its veggie burger so you feel good after eating it since its lighter than a meat burger. After tax $10.89 so pretty decent for the value.

  • 5/5 Damo V. 1 year ago on Google
You get the feeling every dish - from the classic SB Megamouth to an experimental side - is carefully considered and made with full intention to please. Whether you're like "OMG Sb iS tHe BeSTt" or "yeah I had it, it was fine"... there's a middle ground to be reached and it's that the chef/staff care about their product.

Hands down - the best! You don’t think fuuukk that was vegan! Pretty packed all the time, make sure y’all good to be waiting for an hour sometimes or more. But it’s worthy! Also they have options for regular & vegan cheese and if you have any allergies, they got you! Get that greens on your body! Price also pretty good for you pocket.

It’s not often I get the chance to read a restaurant review in The New Yorker, then visit that restaurant in person. That’s exactly how I came to try Superiority Burger on a recent trip to New York. The review was so glowing — especially for a mostly vegan restaurant — that we felt like we had to give it a try. The vibe was great (busy and delightfully chaotic) and the drinks were strong — we drank at the bar and tried some of the snack mix in the vending machine which, as promised, was really good. For dinner, we started with roasted beet salad with scorched pretzel bits, then moved to a collard green sandwich (a big hit), and the Yuba-Verde sandwich, featuring griddled soy-milk skin, chickpeas, broccoli rabe, and mayo on a crusty roll, the most expensive item on the menu at $19. The portions were a bit small so we ended up ordering an extra side of perfectly steamed veggies with a spicy lemon and tahini dressing. For dessert, grilled malted date cake with fresh strawberries and vegan coconut ice cream. Was SB worth the hype? Absolutely, though it’s a pretty small menu. Still, great vegan food at a reasonable price with a fun, funky vibe.

The food here is consistent, and tasty. Each element is well cooked and it tastes more like considered restaurant food, than fast food thanks to the complex favours. I wish it was a bit bigger and more comfortable (e.g had a rest room), but I suppose this is part of the charm and also perhaps keeps the prices so low. The burger, big mouth and the sloppy joe are excellent, the broccoli with cashew nuts is to die for

Excellent vegan burgers/fast food. The burger blend isn’t trying to fool you into thinking it’s meat, but it’s savory and generously seasoned with a really satisfying texture. As a whole burger; bun, lettuce pickles (the pickles!) and dressing make a crazy good bite. They have awesome daily specials, the sides are the same kind of spicy texture magic. They make ice cream, it’s great. Try everything. I eat meat and I still go here all the time.

Stopped in on Sunday to get a hero for the plane and some ice cream (hero not pictured). The Sunday hero might seem a hair pricey at $12 until you consider all the components that go into it, at which point its honestly a steal. Also I'm convinced they make the best ice cream in the city

Take out only. The menu changes daily- got the sloppy dave and although delicious, their portions are small.

Such a unique vegetarian / vegan menu! Everything that I have tried was delicious and well-made. I especially enjoyed The New Creation, Sloppy Dave, and the beets, but everything was great! Also, everyone is very welcoming. (They have a Cookbook too!)

One of my preferred locations for Vegetarian food. I will be back with my friends. The bill was good for how much you get.

My favorite spot for vegetarian food. Had a friend come into town and asked me to take him here again. This place has a nice design. Food is similar to a cafe in Portland I loved.

A very unique place. I don’t know if I love or hate the fact that they have weird hours, limited dishes that change daily. It takes a true genius to run this place. There are days I’m near the restaurant and feel like going, but since I haven’t reserved a meal, I never get to eat there. Maybe l should review again after a second meal.

Wow that's the best $5 salad I've ever had - "Burn Broccoli". And the veggie burger is savory.
