I had a great memory 4 years ago, but this time was an aweful experience ; the doughnuts taste nothing but oil and were so dry that I couldn’t bite in it. It was around 37 degrees celsius in the shop despite the portable AC, the poor salesperson was agonizing 🥵 Maybe the heat explains the dryness of the doughnuts 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not what it is HYPED up to be. They are JUST DOUGHNUTS! And mine was drenched in oil - every bite - I had a mouthful of oil.... BUT they do have one delicious item here and it is a drink - CANNED BLACK COFFEE which pairs really well with super sweet doughnuts.

Saw on maps and decided to check it out. I got the crème brûlée donut which is their specialty and it was amazing wow. It was crispy and sweet on top filled with an explosion of flavor after the first bite as it’s filled with their vanilla cream. My friend got the pink donut on the side which was pretty good in her opinion. I definitely recommend this place and would come here again.

Our doughnut adventures continue... This place had so many reviews on yelp and google that we decided we couldn't avoid checking it out. Their "Sourdoughnuts" stood out to me and are definitely different. The star was a Cacio e Pepe savory doughnut that was on sourdough. It was a little weird for the morning but very good. The guy behind the counter was sure to point out to us that this donut was not sweet. We got there early but there was no wait at all. The decor inside is super cool and I'm glad we decided to make the walk down opposed to ordering online. Personally, I preferred the cake doughnuts over the sourdough or filled square ones. The peach and tres leche doughnuts tasted best. There are plenty of places to try but if you find yourself in the Lower East Side, definitely check this place out!

Good donuts but very expensive at $4 per tiny donut. The coconut lime sourdough and the carrot cake donut were quite good. The Tres Leches donut was good but barely tasted different than a normal glazed donut.

Doughnut Plant, a beloved fixture in New York City's culinary landscape, has been delighting doughnut enthusiasts since its inception in 1994. Founder Mark Isreal's commitment to redefining the doughnut experience led to the creation of this innovative bakery. What started as a small storefront in the Lower East Side has now grown into a doughnut empire, with locations across the city. Step into Doughnut Plant, and you step into a realm where doughnuts transcend the ordinary, becoming exquisite works of edible art. This establishment has redefined what it means to savor a doughnut, combining craftsmanship, quality ingredients, and inventive flavors into each delectable creation. The first thing that strikes you is the aroma – a seductive blend of freshly baked dough and heavenly glazes. The display case is a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes, showcasing an array of doughnut varieties that cater to every palate. From the classic yeast and cake doughnuts to the renowned filled square doughnuts, each creation is a testament to Doughnut Plant's commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional pastry-making. A standout feature is the use of seasonal, high-quality ingredients sourced locally whenever possible. Whether you opt for the iconic Creme Brulee doughnut with its torched sugar crust or the vibrant, hibiscus-flavored doughnut, each bite is a journey through a symphony of flavors and textures. The cozy yet modern ambiance of Doughnut Plant adds to the overall experience. It's a place where you can savor your doughnut with a cup of freshly brewed coffee or artisanal tea, creating a moment of indulgence and joy. What sets Doughnut Plant apart is its dedication to innovation. The introduction of unique flavors, such as the Tres Leches and the seasonal specials, keeps patrons eagerly anticipating what delightful surprises will be unveiled next.

One of my all time favorite donuts. The yeast glazed donuts are my favorite. I can eat 3 in one sitting. Amazing donuts here. The pistachio donuts are awesome here as well. These donuts are more light and fluffy rather than cakey which I like. Glad they have more locations in the city so it's easier to get one of these donuts. Don't get here too late as they do run out of donuts if you get here late in the day.

Donut plant is good don’t get me wrong but they’re not like before the pandemic. Their donuts are made fresh all at 5am then distributed across stores in the morning. Certainly not going to be warm upon purchase but still flavorful

Got here 30 mins after opening to grab our last meal/dessert in NYC and we ordered a bunch of doughnuts to try out! I think we go 8 doughnuts and our total was $33, so they're not cheap. We we're so excited to eat them that we forgot to take a picture, and only took one after eating a few of them already! Out of all of them I think my favorite were the Brooklyn Blackout and Blueberry. I normally don't eat doughnuts, but I thought these were very light and fluffy! But definitely have some water with them because they're very sweet.

Donuts are yummy. Don't come late or they'll be sold out. You can catch them on Too Good To Go and get 5 donuts in your $6 order.

The tres leches and coffee cake donuts are a favorite, definitely one of my favorite donut places in New York- try the tres leches or their signature creme brûlée! So glad they survived the pandemic and great to have them on the LES!

Had the Sourdough Vegan doughnuts. Definitely an indulgence to fill a doughnut craving! Recommend trying if you're looking for an actual doughnut. Other places in town that make "vegan" doughnuts maybe a cake doughnut which is different, this is your class doughy doughnut.

wayyyy better than regular fast food donut 🍩 places tip: use toogoodtogo app for better deals, but you don’t get a choice and this place goes fast

These were really good! I don’t recommend the vegan/gf ones but the normal ones are really good. The blueberry stood out by far and was the best blueberry donut I have had, the other ones were good but nothing to write home about. If you like donuts (especially blueberry) and are nearby I would stop by but would not travel for it.

Amazing donuts, I put 4 stars because their coffee machine was not working. Brooklyn blackout and coconug stuffed were my favourites

My go-to spot whenever I am back in the neighborhood to try new flavors but still must have the original flavor. I'm well over a decade older than the shop. *face palm, hides behind hands* I remember like it was just yesterday when it first opened. Grab and go kind of place. Not really made to sit around for a long time to chat with friends. The seating is not made for that at all!!

Awesome experience. Tiana was so friendly! I’m from Ohio and I will definitely come back here next time I’m in town. There’s gluten free and vegan too! Still don’t know how they get filling into those round donuts but dang so great, best donuts/service in NYC.

Love these doughnuts- they have a lot of unique and seasonal flavors! I also like that they have different types of donuts with various textures (I.e cake, yeast, sourdough…), as well as vegan/gluten free options. Had A-1 service too!

  • 4/5 Chris G. 1 year ago on Google
Brilliant as always, love the continued delicious innovation and friendliness of the team. Only thing keeping it from give stars is options that were both Vegan and Gluten Free.

I tried a lot of doughnut places in NY but this is the best one yet!! My favourite flavour is the red velvet! I love how their doughnut is not too sweet!

My revisit to this place has long been overdue. I first found out about this place 8 years ago and it’s never disappointed me. Recently rediscovered the creme brûlée. Some of the best donuts on this planet and that’s coming from a major crazed donut fan.

Went there several years ago. Don't eat donuts too often. I remember they had very different flavors & were very fresh

Great doughnuts and some unique flavors. Being able to choose between cake and yeast doughnuts is what really separates them from other bakeries.

I was excited to try vegan donuts but they were too sweet and didn't highlight the actual flavors they were named after. The service was good though. There's no parking in the immediate vicinity, but you may be able to find paid street parking 2 or 3 blocks away.

Dec '21: doughNut your average sufganiyah Although @doughnutplant does have some that at least look more like your classic jelly donuts. Sufganiyot are jelly donuts / doughnuts classically eaten on Hanukkah around the world. They’re round donuts filled with jam or custard, deep fried in oil or shmaltz (never lard as pork isn’t kosher), and topped with powdered sugar. The tradition started in Europe by Germans / Polish then brought to Israel and renamed to sufganiyah (singular). Jews around the word have since adopted the tradition as one of the many fried foods eaten on Hanukkah. The tradition of eating fried foods goes back to 12th century or older even. Jews commemorate the oil that lit the menorah for 8 days instead of 1 in the ancient temple in Jerusalem after the Maccabees defeated the Hellenistic army that ruled over the area at the time. The army had destroyed most of the temple, but the Jews found their menorah and lit it - it was supposed to be lit basically all the time. Hanukkah started last night! So for me to celebrate, I went to Doughnut Plant! Doughnut Plant was opened by an American Jew with a long history of baking in the family. When they opened the doors, it was actually to a small tenement apartment in the Lower East Side! In 2000 after studying and trying many different donut techniques, then opened shop at Grand St (where I went!). There are now 9 locations - including in Tokyo! They’re certified kosher and offer holiday specials. See my last picture for the two Hanukkah sufganiyot - marzipan or vanilla with blackberry jam. A few years ago they came up with a crazy Hanukkiah one too, but that is special order. I don’t actually like jelly hence my choice in the Brooklyn Blackout. Thanks for reading! Happy Hanukkah! !חנוכה שמח

As someone that never had sourdough doughnuts before: These are amazing! The gentleman and the lady behind the counter advised us on the different types they are having and which they would recommend. If you want some better doughnuts than what your typical Dunkin is serving - stop by a Doughnut Plant and you will not be disappointed.

Donut shop with lots of unique flavors. Would come here again to try some of their other flavors. Carrot cake ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: carrot cake donut with cream filling on the inside. Was pleasantly surprised at how good this one was as I am not the biggest fan of carrot cake. A tad on the sweet side for me but still delicious. Creme brulee ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: small but delicious donut filled woth cream and a bruleed top. The creme could've tasted a bit more like the creme in creme brulee and I could've also done woth a slightly thicker brulee on top.

As good as ever. Carrot cake is my absolute favorite 10 years running. The home made jams used in the jelly donuts are excellent and the coconut creme is sublime. This is one of the famous places in NYC that actually lives up to the hype.

Saw this place on social media and I had to try it. The tres leche wonder wheel was really good. Since the donut is made out of cake, the whole treat isn't super sugary. Looking forward to going back and trying other flavors!

I USED to come from NJ and get donuts here for many years. Loved them then. The prices were always higher than anywhere else , but affordable . Product was steadily good and it was worth it . They used to have a line outside and people used to talk about this place. A year ago I came and realized prices were up there. A few people were still awaiting in line. Last week I was in NY and went again, prices are almost doubled . Cream brûlée donut was dense and didn’t taste as it used to. Vanilla bean and jam one was somehow WET inside. I paid almost $15 for two little and one standard donuts. Seriously ? Place was empty. Full variety available, but empty. Not one customer, just silly me. That speaks for itself . Greed will end you…
