There is so much to like about The Uncommons, but the temperature inside makes it hard to enjoy the atmosphere the staff creates and the fun games. The door was propped open in order to cool the store down since the AC unit has been broken. We were informed that the ovens and other equipment can make the store unbearably hot, so the only choice is to prop the door open. The staff were very friendly and apologetic, so I’m hoping the AC gets fixed so I can come back comfortably soon!

I love the Uncommons - I recommend it for anyone who is a fan of boardgames. Their staff has always been really great to me! That's why I'm so glad they recently unionized:) I know they are in the middle of Union negotiations, so as long as they meet the demands of their amazing staff I will continue to recommend it to everyone who says they like boardgames and I will take my friends there regularly:

This was such an amazing date day activity. We had so much fun here. It's right down the block from the park so it can be a 2 part date thing. They had so many games to choose from and the staff were super helpful. Especially the guy with the mustache he was really nice and suggested really great games to play we spent like 3hrs here. They also have a kosher eating game that you won't regret trying wink 😉

so you like to play games, eh? The Uncommons is where you need to be to play numerous amount of tabletop, rpg, board, card, etc. games for $10 per person gets you 3 hours of playtime. floor to ceiling neat stacks of games, tables placed throughout for gaming, and there is a small bar to order coffee, beer, wine and small eats. had relatives in town with kids in tow and they had a blast. the coffee i ordered was solidly good and the staff was informative and friendly. good place to be in the moment with friends and family without the infinite scroll addiction getting in the way—play good games, win good times!

This place is a hidden gem. A small hybrid bar/cafe with an endless selection of board games as it’s main attraction. There’s nothing better than going with a few friends and losing track of time over a game of Uno or monopoly. Very queer and nerd friendly environment, too.

Definitely on the crowded and noisier side but it was such a fun spot to hangout with friends with a bev of choice. The barista that helped Me out was really sweet as well! Great vibes, great games, overall a good experience. They have sooooo many walls filled with board games, my kinda paradise on earth

Absolutely love the concept of a board game cafe and glad one is located downtown. Unlimited 3 hr board game play for $10/person. Great for groups of 2 or more people. Both alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages available. Somewhat limited options for alcohol in their fridge but the craft ciders and beers are super tasty. Coffee, tea and smoothies are also available. Light snacks for sale such as candies and baked goods but I would go there expecting to get a meal. One con of this place was the space itself. It is somewhat small but they do make maximal use of the space. There is both the main room and a back side room. The lighting in the back room makes it feel like a grungy basement and preferred the main room. Tables themselves are large for game play but somewhat squished together. Overall I had a great time hanging out with a friend while playing board games. A perfect way to spend a Sunday evening.

The Uncommons is a fantastic spot for board game enthusiasts and coffee lovers alike. The vintage board games available are a unique and fun addition to the experience, and the coffee and espresso drinks are top-notch. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a great spot to spend an afternoon with friends. Whether you're a seasoned board gamer or just looking to try something new, The Uncommons is definitely worth a visit.

Great beer (small selection) Great games (large selection) - few games we picked were missing a few things but we just popped it in the used bin and picked another. The people working there were very welcoming and sorted us a table as we didn’t have a reservation (would recommend) It’s a perfect evening activity or day if you want. We bought a board game and they are a little above market price but remember to support your locals 🥰

Staff were friendly and direct, providing time/duration options that we could choose from and their corresponding wait times, as well as call ahead when the table is being cleared up/ready. They offer a student rate of 8$ too! Would've definitely spent more time if we came earlier.

Really laid back and fun game space! Staff were very friendly and helpful in selecting a great game based on what you’re looking for. Great for dates, families and friend groups. They have a very wide selection of games that can be played or purchased. Small snacks and non alcoholic drinks are available. The only con is the place is small so it fills up quickly, and tables are mostly close together. Will definitely be back! Great space for a couple hours of non screen connection.

So much fun! I love this place. Their selection of games is crazy. Staff is all really nice. Caton might not be the best game for a large group, especially if you don’t already know how to play. You really gotta commit to it! It’s the only one we got through.

Great place to hang out with a small group of friends. They charge around $10 for 3 hours and have a variety of games. The staff helps you out to pick out games too. You can never get bored here. Their hot chocolate is great too.

Great selection of boardgames, staff is super helpful explaining the games and rules, drinks are also super good and reasonably priced. 10 dollars per person for three hours of gameplay, drinks were 7-9$. Awesome experience overall 👏

Staff were friendly and the place was very well organised. Some of the other players got a little rowdy during their games, which meant it could be a little noisy. We had a great time there and enjoyed our visit

This store was one of the most welcoming flgs environments I have ever been in. The staff was simply wonderful and even were willing to go the extra mile to make me feel safe and welcome. I think I may have just found one of my new favorite board game cafes in the whole entire world and would gladly return. I would also classify this as a very LGBTQIA+ friendly environment, since I know a lot of game stores are not very good about that these days.

Pretty cool place, you pay $10 per person and get to play whatever games you want for 3 hours. I wouldn’t classify them as a “bar” though, because they have such limited alcohol options. It was pretty much just craft beer and cider. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of the vibes in there, had to keep mask on at all times.

Adorable and so fun! $10 per person gets you 3 hours of gameplay, though they do run student discounts during off-peak days. They have ample game selection and some available for purchase as well. They offer coffees which looked great and cans of craft beers and ciders as well! The staff was so kind and did a great job! We put our name on the wait list and they were upfront that it may take 15 min to get seated, or three hours -- it ended up only being 45 minutes, and there are plenty of bars and spots to grab a bite while you wait. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking to go out with friends but don't want to do a bar/restaurant.

Highly enjoyed the way this memorable board game / coffee shop works. The charming and sturdy furniture made it accessible for our group of 4 adults. The batistas provided high quality results and their friendly demeanor really stood out. Looking forward to another visit. Totally worth your time.

Parker! Was! Amazing! And her make up 🔥! She gave me the best customer service ever! And she was very well versed in most of the tcg and board games in the store! Even gave me insight on the events they host throughout the week! All in all, amazing place with great drinks and games and even more amazing people willing to go the distance and offer the best service! Highly recommend even if you just wanna chill and play a board game. Don't forget your vacs card and ID tho.

This was an interesting concept and I was intrigued to give it a try. It’s $8 for students or $10 for everyone else to play board games for 3 hours. Great for a larger group 3-4+ people. The two games we did play the pieces felt very grimey and were worn down.

Stepped in here to get out of the rain for a bit. It was a great choice. The staff was friendly and we all had a good time. They have SO MANY games available to play. You pay per person and amount of time. We would definitely return.

Found this place looking for coffee on NYE. Coffee was great and we stayed for the games! Such a big selection of board games. We had a really great time. The staff were incredibly nice and accommodating.

This place used to be great, the biggest downside is that the games themselves are in massive need of attention. We played a handful of different games and each one was either missing pieces, falling apart, or both. It’s disappointing because I used to love this place but it’s clear the quality has slipped. Hopefully they make some investments in retiring and replacing the games that are past their prime. The staff are all great, and they make a great coffee but not one game was fully in tact and I can’t say I’d go back because of it.

Great Boardgame place. You can borrow games to play at one of the tables or buy new games. Good variety of games available. Price was reasonable (I recall $10 per person for 3 hours, but we got a discount as we only wanted to stay for one hour).

Back when I lived in NYC, I used to love The Uncommons, so I made a point of visiting the shop and spending some money this past weekend when I was visiting family. What I got was the epitome of the FLGS experience: one of the staff spent about 15 minutes running down some of my favorite game mechanics before suggesting Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile, a game already very much on my radar. As I was checking out, the rest of the staff (quickly) shared their own stories with the game, letting me know that I was in for a great time. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable - these are the reasons you shop local, even if "local" means half-a-continent away.

Great place in a great location. Stumbled upon this place while reading an E-article. It is a great themed place where you can go and play board games. It is $10 per person for 2hrs of fun, all the games you can play. The workers were really nice.

My partner and I came in looking to extend our collection. The staff were super helpful despite us making it very difficult to find something we wanted! Cannot recommend enough, amazing selection.

Great hole in the wall spot! There are good summer beers, coffee, tea and sodas to purchase. The game library will get your inner kid feeling like it’s Christmas and your cousins came over!!! Super chill spot for groups to come play and have some fun

Fantastic place. My wife and I were in the area seeing a show at Le Poisson Rouge, looking for a place to pick up some coffee before we went. Happened upon The Uncommons and the 2 people we were helped by were very friendly and courteous. Offered to make us a fresh pot if we had the time to wait. We did, had a wonderful conversation with both people running the store. It was packed with people playing games. Of which their selection of games to play in store and buy was extensive. Even tho the store was packed to the gills they were both amazing. Definetly a wonderful quick stop for us here and if you happen to live in the general area, between the games and the incredibly friendly people working there, this seems like a really fun place to hang out!

Staff were good, and there was a vast amount of board games. My group went 30 minutes before closing, and the staff made sure we paid for only those 30 minutes as opposed to the usual full price for 1 hour. I appreciated it. The biggest irk for me was the smell. It was not too pleasant, and I felt that ventilation was a little iffy. Games and staff were great so I might go again some day!

Amazing collection and they even had unique board games for sale! Decent drinks and snacks available! Love the staff - they know their stuff and give great recommendations! FYI Def make a reservation, especially for nights and weekends!!

First time here and it was great. There is such a variety of games and they have a good selection of beer (all cans). It is a good idea to make a reservation if you have more than 2 people because the space fills up fast. It's an extra $5 per person this way but imo worth it. It closes at 11 so keep it in mind when you are playing.

Go here! Just do it. It’s so fun! They have a million board games, each different and unique. I got to try a bunch of new games and the staff was super helpful with recommendations for experienced board game players as well as novices. They also offer coffee, energy drinks (including a dragon ball energy drink that my BF loved) and some beers and ciders. I can’t wait to go back!

The Uncommons has a special place in my heart. It was the first gaming cafe I ever discovered in NYC. The people who work there have always been passionate, kind, helpful, and make the place as amazing as it is. That’s why I stand with their union and implore everyone to support labor. Choose carefully where your money goes. Choose to patronize shops where workers are part of the decision making process, terms are collectively bargained, and the environment fair and equitable.
