Oh
goodness,
what
a
great
New
York
jazz
venue.
I
was
in
NYC
again
last
year
and
had
the
radio
on
in
my
hotel
room,
where
I
heard
that
Dr
Lonnie
Smith
was
on
at
Jazz
Standard.
I
thought
'damn,
I
wish
I'd
known
and
got
a
ticket
in
advance'
because
that's
what
you
have
to
do
in
London,
months
in
advance
in
the
case
of
Dr
Lonnie.
Anyway,
I
turned
up
at
about
7ish
and
asked
the
lady
on
the
door
if
any
tickets
might
be
available:
'Sure',
she
said
and
I
was
soon
being
lead
to
a
seat.
'Is
there
anything
nearer
the
stage?
maybe
near
the
drummer?'
I
asked.
'Sure,
no
problem,
how
about
here?'
and
for
$30
I
was
sat
practically
ON
the
stage
with
no
fuss,
no
silly
prices,
no
booking
in
advance.
This
is
why
I
love
New
York.
Dr
Lonnie
was
marvellous,
he
even
sat
down
opposite
me
to
play
his
Midi
walking
stick
for
a
bit!
Not
only
that,
it
was
actually
the
best
meal
I
had
in
New
York
that
week
too,
really.
Although
I
did
just
check
the
current
menu
(March
2017)
and
it
seems
pretty
meat-heavy
(a
pescatarian
here).
Menu
aside,
Jazz
Standard
is
exceptional.
I
even
met
a
couple
of
friendly
folk
who
sat
at
the
same
table
as
me
when
I
was
there,
we
chatted
about
jazz
and
shared
a
bottle
of
Malbec.
That
doesn't
happen
in
London.
Jazz
Standard,
a
great
New
York
Jazz
venue.
