The jazz musicians that played last night were phenomenal. You can really tell that they invest countless hours practicing for their shows. Their pieces seemed like intense and difficult pieces to play and yet they made it look so easy and enjoyed themselves all while performing. The seating arrangement is tight and the food and drinks are very very very expensive. I’m grateful we were able to purchase seating in advance. So there wasn’t a concern over losing a spot to sit or having to stand and watch. Every seat was packed. The wait staff were considerate and patient and smoothly delivered orders to tables throughout the show without causing a distraction. Overall great visit for a night out with friends to listen to amazing jazz musicians live.

I was so looking forward to experiencing my first jazz club. What atmosphere and decor. As soon as you enter, you get a vibe. This club has a history of jazz entertainers. We sat near the back but were not so far where we felt it was too far. The acoustics were great. The servers were attentive and gracious. You should buy your tickets well in advance to ensure a seat. This will be on my list of jazz bars to enjoy again in the future.

I had a wonderful time here. First of all, seriously consider your attire if you are going to book here, because I didn't have time to change out of street wear and I felt really underdressed. They encourage you to arrive early to order dinner so that you aren't disturbing the show with plates coming in & out. I loved the salmon and the icebox cake and the music was fantastic.

Newly reopened and remodeled after the pandemic SMOKE is better than ever. Ambience is wonderful in the main room for live performances. The bar now offers streaming of the performance audio for every show. The food is somehow better with more selections than before and was excellent then. Very reasonable cover charge and a whole lot of fun.

If you’ve never seen a drummer use a rubber corona bottle, three pigs, a crocodile and a chicken as percussions: Here you get the chance if you’re really lucky! This was an incredible evening. Fun and creativity, improvisation and all around top level jazz. Enchantingly relaxed performance by Lezlie Harrison. Thank you and everyone else who made this evening very special. We’ll be back for sure. Edit: Added the photo.

Incredible evening! Had the most amazing night sitting right behind Bill Charlap, the famous Jazz pianist. Seriously, luck was on our side! An hour just flew by as we soaked in his awesome tunes. It was like time had its own rhythm, and we couldn't believe our luck to be part of such a cool experience.

The Band was amazing that performed Aug. 26, 2023 when we went! The drummer and bass player were my favs! Food and atmosphere was also great. We came to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and they brought him a dessert with a candle. That made the night even more special. We will be back again!!!!

New York is coming back! The newly remodeled and expanded Smoke Jazz & Supper Club is scheduled to reopen on July 21. Previews are this weekend with the Joe Farnsworth Quartet headlining. I've seen Joe in the past and always enjoy his skill and enthusiasm on the drums. On Friday night this talented group was joined by the young and extremely  talented Jordan Williams on the piano, Jeremy Pelt on the trumpet, (being a big fan of the trumpet I especially enjoyed hearing Jeremy), the man can play! On the bass Jason Clotter demonstrated his range of skills, taking us up and down the bass. The band was joined in and impromptu performance by Saxophonist (Noah) who, added another dimension to the already talented group.   All said this was a fantastic night for the preview of what's to come at Smoke! If you love music of any type, check this place out, the space, vibe and talent here is second to none.

Food was good and dishes were large. Actually they were little too large to eat 3 course menu. But fixed price for 3 course menu was so attractive so its worth to order that. Jazz music was very entertaining. But it was played quite loudy so if you have sensitive hearing take earplugs with you.

Excellent time with friends! If you have any interest in jazz and are looking for something to do in New York for a nice evening out, I highly recommend this place! The music was excellent, the food was delicious, and the staff were polite and friendly! I took some friends with me and we were still talking about our time here three days later. The venue is beautiful- moody and elegant with a distinctly intimate feel. The food was filling and excellent and was perfect for a special night out where you can splurge a bit. Overall fantastic experience and will definitely make a beeline for this place again if I ever come back to New York!

Great sound in an intimate spot. The food was great. We had the Burger and fried chicken bread pudding for dessert. We are looking forward to the next time we visit.

We went here for our anniversary on Saturday. The manager saw us took a picture by the stage and asked if it was a special occasion and after we said yes, she bought us a round of drinks. A super nice gesture! The music was amazing and the food was solid. Will definitely be visiting again.

I got 5 stars because it was lovely, The music was amazing, the environment was great, But the only thing that was not comfortable was that it's mandatory to order food and no one asks if you're hungry or not. Please if you can manage that not classy thing would be perfect. The food, drinks, service and music were amazing.

While they almost always have a full-house, the agile Waitstaff nimbly & efficiently bring your Food & Drink quickly without any "incidents"... truly amazing considering all the Guests the fit in for their always-superb Dinner Jazz Shows. My Vegetarian Wife had an Heirloom Tomato Salad & yummy Cheese Board while I enjoyed one of their many delicious Wild-caught Fish Entrees. It is always a pleasure to come here...

Smoke is an absolute gem of a jazz club tucked away in the UWS. Been wanting to go for years and thought I had missed my opportunity when they closed during COVID. Lucky for me they reopened in July 2022 and I finally got my chance. The place regularly hosts some of the most talented musicians in the business on a nightly basis. Last week, I got to see the legendary Louis Hayes perform with the Cannonball Legacy Band - amazing show. Sometimes, jazz clubs that deliver on the music underperform on the food, but this couldn't have been further from the truth. The fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had. FYI: get Tix in advance online, especially for popular nights because they usually sell out. If you're booked for a 7pm show, get there by 6:15 so that you can order your food without disturbing the live performance.

Smoke was on my list of jazz clubs to visit when I came to New York and it ended up being the first one I came to when I arrived in town. We saw Peter Bernstein and the music was great. Sound in the room was very good. Food was a bit hit and miss- one meal excellent, the other just ok. If I had to pick something to really critique it would be the terrible table setup. Everyone is squeezed in at long tables and holding a conversation before the music starts or eating when you’re almost literally sitting in your neighbour’s lap is not a very satisfactory experience. Lots of jazz clubs have tight spaces and close contact with other patrons but most serve drinks only and I do think when food is involved it’s really problematic and uncomfortable if the person next to you can hear everything you say (and vice versa) and your food is just centimetres from the person next to you especially if they’re coughing and sneezing and sniffling…… All in all a club I would return to for the music but not a fan of the layout of the room.

Smoke is the real deal. There is only one other jazz club (with no restaurant) in NYC that offers such a consistently stellar lineup of superb jazz musicians. Among those we have enjoyed here, to give you a sense of my and my wife’s jazz preferences: Brad Mehldau, George Cables, Joe Farnsworth, Emmet Cohen, Bill Charlap, Billy Hart, Cyrus Chestnut, George Coleman, Vincent Herring, Al Foster . . . the list goes on. On top of the music, the kitchen - run by Paul Stache’s wife and co-owner Molly Sparrow Johnson - produces consistently excellent dinners that are readily a solid notch above other clubs that operate a restaurant. Paul himself is usually in the club, making personally sure everything is running smoothly and chatting with guests and musicians. Laurie, the club’s manager, is always welcoming and making sure the uniformly attentive and friendly staff is in top form. Aside from all that - if you can’t get a ticket (it does occasionally happen), Smoke offers a live streaming option (and excellent CD recording). I am a bit of an audiophile and can assure you the sound quality of Smoke’s on-line streaming service is the best - I’ve listened to them all - as is the camera work. Unless you’re into fusion, funk or other jazz offshoots (nothing wrong with that, just not my cup of tea) and wish to hear great jazz musicians preceded by an excellent dinner in a wonderful atmosphere, this is THE club to patronize. A treat for anyone who loves Jazz or chill tunes. Must have a reservation to attend. Locale is pretty small, expect to be at the bar if you are a party of 1. Anymore than that and you will need a table. Food was EXCELLENT. Perfectly portioned, well made and beautifully presented. A large selection of wines, Champagne, beers and mixed drinks. Ambiance was warm and inviting. Will definitely come back!

This place has a really nice ambiance and has really good food. the price fixe menu has a nice selection of food. you do have to pay a $20 music fee for the performance but it was worth it. definitely recommend this place to try

Great atmosphere and great music, we were there for a set and then the subsequent jam session, when all sort of very talented youg musician joined the quartet. price structure is not completely clear from the website: is 9 $ music charge (which you can book online) and then 20 minimum to spend at the bar (or 38 at dinner). We were at the bar, drinks were very good and amazing nutella cheesecake

Great setting with a very cosy feel. The food was good but not brilliant, shrimp and Calamari starter was the best of the courses being tasty and a good portion. The main of chicken was slightly small and overcooked. Dessert was very good but incredibly rich and could have done with having cream or ice cream served with it. The jazz was good and we enjoyed the jam session! Unfortunately from my seat it was hard to see but I probably had the worst seat in there unfortunately!

I went to the midnight set on a Friday, and was absolutely blown away. The Keith Brown Trio played a stunning set, the environment was electric, and the service was excellent. Food service had ended by the time I arrived, but the drink service was reasonably prompt, and it was well worth the 2-drink minimum to enjoy several hours of awesome live Jazz.

This place was small & cozy but comfortable and also intimate for a night out with my secret lover. It has the perfect acoustics for a jazz band. The jazz band was magnificent. The lighting was just right so my lover can stare into my eyes and think about what he wants to do with me when we get home. Owwwee. Anyway! The food was awesome as well. The salad was a bit huge for no reason but okay. I ordered the ratatouille and omg. It was mouth watering. I would def go back

This place is the best Jazz club I have ever been too! I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, wanted to give her a different experience which we definitely got! The staff here is beyond amazing. I’m very particular when it comes to customer service, this place has exceptional customer service! The food 10/10!! The best burger I ever had in my entire life! Once again I’m very picky and particular when it comes to food as well. The band that played was absolutely amazing! Overall a perfect place to go to just sit and relax and enjoy some good instrumentation with amazing staff! 10/10! Please give this place a try!

Nice place. Great music. Every time I went to this venue, there were always good people and good vibes. But like most jazz spot, it's tight in there. As you can see, I've been back.😊

I soo hate to give them such a poor review. I loved them before renovation but my recent experience was not good. The bar is now located in a separate room from the stage. The bartender was one of the most inattentive and lazy I have ever experienced. I tended bar for a decade in clubs & fine dining so I have experience. They illegally charge a 4% surcharge on credit cards. I looked up the law in New York. The food was great but rather expensive. Of course the music is top notch but I'm afraid I may not return to my once favorite neighborhood venue after such a bad experience.

Despite the music and acoustics being really great at the club, I didn’t like my experience at Smoke Jazz. First of all, the pricing scheme is very misleading and forced you to purchase dinner for the early shows on top of the ticket price. Food is lackluster for the price so it felt bad spending money like that. Second, I ordered a cocktail and the waitress spilled it on me accidentally. I understand mistakes happen but it was handled very sloppily. I was ambiguously offered another drink, and it was served halfway. Then I was charged for the cost of 1.25 drinks, so I ended up paying more than expected. They care more about saving a few dollars than having a happy customer. Overall, great music but very pretentious and focused on money and status over what matters, the music!

Enjoyed my night out here from a invite from a Facebook friend, Jeff. The Wayne Escoffrey Quartet performed featuring Saxophonist Wayne Escoffrey. Very Talented Musicans. The setting & vibe was fantastic, the food was Fantastic, my White Russian was FANTASTIC!!! With the cinnamon added. A friendship from Facebook developed into a Friend For Life In Jeff! Thank You Again! Big Ups My Brother!!! 🎤🎼🎶🎷🎸🎹😎👊
