We have been wanting to visit Dirt Candy since June this year and finally went here last weekend for my birthday! We reserved for the chef's counter (you can actually see the chef prepare the dishes) one month in advance. The fall menu was excellent and each dish was presented beautifully. It was so hard to pick a favorite dish, each one was packed with flavors and tasted so unique! They gave us two surprise dishes from the kitchen too which was such a nice gesture. The drinks were equally unique and tasted amazing. The service staff were amazing. They explained each dish and were very quick to respond to our requests. It's so great to see such amazing service even with no tips involved. The price is on the higher side, but honestly the experience made it feel worth it.

I came here as a vegetarian with my meat eater boyfriend and we both had a wonderful time! First off the staff was so friendly and helpful. They wanted to help you understand the dishes and wines we were getting and everyone of them spent time with us rather than putting down a plate then rushing off. We got the wine pairing with our dinner and it was also well worth it! I loved how we got a story of the wine maker with each glass too. As for the food? Phenomenal! I love vegetables to begin with my boyfriend is much more picky. He is not a fan of carrots or celery but the dishes that has them here blew his mind they could make them taste so good. We came here as an anniversary treat but have decided we must come back every season to try the new menu. This place is a gem!

I went to this restaurant twice on my recent solo NYC trip and I had such a nice experience. I really appreciate that they accept reservations for one and they made me feel very welcome. Dirt Candy has a welcoming and visually stunning décor, is very clean and a has a very relaxing and fun atmosphere. The food was so creative and delicious! They have a way to put vegetables in everything and have it taste amazing. Even the dessert! Will definitely go again on my next trip to NYC. Thank you!

Dirt Candy is one of the best, or maybe even the best vegetarian / vegan place for me. They provide an amazing delicious tasting menu. They change their menu according to the season. I highly recommend to do also their wine pairing. Getting for each course a female created wine is amazing. The service is thoroughly great and so lovely. Get a seat at the chefs table. The cooks are happy to chat with you and answer your questions.

It was so nice to enjoy a coursed dinner as a vegetarian! The staff here is knowledgeable and pleasant. One of the reasons I wanted to come in was because I read about Dirt Candy’s labor practices. It’s great to know that there are restaurants that treat their employees fairly. Thank you for a wonderful dinner! I’ll be back!

Great vegetarian meal. We had the fixed 5 course dinner with the wine pairing option. All of the wine pairings were very unique and complimented the food well. At some point I lost track and over-served myself, but not a bad problem to have. The food was fantastic and you could tell that a lot of thought went into each course.

Very impressed. Thoroughly enjoyed every part of the 5-course pre-fixe, plus the two unexpected "gift" courses and amuse bouche. My favorite item was the zucchini (the filling in that roll was so delicious). My least favorite item was the corn, though it was my fiancé's favorite, and visually it was my favorite too. They also accommodated her non-cheese preferences by serving her several dishes where they substituted out the cheese (in one dish, the eggplant, I actually preferred hers to mine). We also shared two cocktails and two mocktails, The Great Wave was my favorite among them and among my favorite cocktails ever (tamarind sweetness balanced by ginger/lemon, with satisfying texture as well). Loved that it's a "non-tipping establishment", I wish more restaurants were. It's fine dining in that they also replaced our silverware after each course, and I enjoyed it more than other fine dining experiences double the $95/person cost (I hesitate to write this last part, lest management uses it as a reason to raise the price!)

This is place took me by surprise. Every penny spent here was worth it. Our summer menu was for 95$. Coming to dirt candy is truly an experience itself. I would highly recommend all veg folks to go here. Everything was brilliantly put together and every item was visually appealing than the last. They also accommodate vegetarian menu. The best part was the little gifts they give between each meal.

This restaurant is great, the food is delicious and unique, the atmosphere is very nice, however, for a Michelin star restaurant and for the price- I expected a little more. In terms of the dishes- the tomato and the zucchini were absolutely fabulous, the kimchi cheese roll we got as a gift from the kitchen was also delicious. The eggplant and the cord dishes were very tasty, but not good enough in my opinion. The dessert was very good. In terms of the amount of food we got- again for the price I expected a little more. I personally was full at the end of the meal but some people were not..considering this is a tasting menu and that the price is over 100 dollars, I did expect a little more. That being said, I still recommend this restaurant as they do offer some very unique vegetarian dishes that I loved very much.

Visiting from Florida with my boyfriend, and this was BY FAR the BEST dining experience we have had. Service was exceptional and very knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings. The food was also to die for!!!! Mind blown completely and I don't want it back.

What an amazing experience... My girlfriend and I had dinner here and went with the wine pairings as well. Love the concept, the message and the presentation. The host / wine steward gives such a thorough explanation of each wine pairing. The food was beautiful and delicious and so creative! Thank you so much!

Absolutely stunning experience. Innovative, bold dishes. The kitchen stands behind their menu with pride, they want to make you happy and let you taste something incredible. The fall menu was splendid. We got special treats from the kitchen as well, gummy bears, a carrot pizza and pickled beets. Inviting atmosphere and extremely friendly staff. Awesome. Amanda Cohen rocks.

In town for a girls weekend and had a vegan tasting menu our first night in town. The service was great and the food is beautiful and inventive. This is gourmet vegetables at their very best. I really enjoyed the meal (could have done without the beet slushie I chose for a beverage since there was also a beet course and I was beat by beets) and would highly recommend!!!

An unusual vegetarian/vegan (by request) located in NYC Chinatown, offering a prix fixe menu of interesting dishes that can be paired with wines for an additional charge. Dining here was a treat, but would not be on my regular restaurant rotation. Service was top notch and servers explained each dish and paired wine. In addition to the six plates described on the menu, a small appetizer + small madeleine at the end of the meal were served. Good for a social dinner with colleagues or friends — Portions are modest; but surprisingly filling/satisfying by the end of the meal.

What Amanda Cohen does with vegetables is out of this world. It's simple, it's thoughtful and delicious. We went back to NY after almost 4 years and my wife took me there because it used to be her favorite restaurant. Amazing experience, great staff and Amanda was there, explaining her creations after all this time. Really glad she survived the pandemic. Long life to Dirt Candy

Absolutely amazing dining experience, highly recommend coming here! If I could give Dirt Candy more than 5 stars, I would. The staff were incredible - very friendly, nice, and attentive. I appreciate that they explained what each dish was and our plates were cleared quickly after we finished each dish - everything went so smoothly. The food was so delicious and creative. I loved the bold flavours and how fresh everything tasted. The staff also brought out little surprise dishes, which was very fun. We came here to celebrate a special occasion and the staff brought us two complimentary drinks that would suit our tastes (based on the drinks we had ordered) and the drinks they brought out tasted incredible! I don't recall the drink they brought out for me to be on the menu, so I really appreciated that. Overall, dining here was an absolute treat and I can't wait to be back to try their other tasting menus!

Hailing from Miami and maintaining a vegetarian lifestyle for over three decades, we embarked on a new culinary adventure by choosing to dine at Dirty Candy, a Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant in New York. Securing a reservation felt like a blessing, and the entire experience turned out to be nothing short of superb. The culinary journey at Dirty Candy was a revelation. Opting for the wine pairing added a unique dimension to our vegetarian dining experience. Every dish presented was not only delicious but also showcased stunning presentations and divine flavors. The attention to detail was evident as the waiter took the time to explain each dish before it was served, elevating our dining experience. The wine pairing, supporting female wine makers, was an exceptional touch. The person in charge of pouring the wine went beyond the norm, providing detailed explanations about each wine and sharing the stories behind them. This personalized approach added a deeper connection to the wines and enhanced the overall dining experience. One standout wine that captured our hearts was the EMME wine from California, crafted by the talented Rosalind. The entire evening at Dirty Candy was a delight for the senses, making it an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend this Michelin-starred vegetarian haven to anyone seeking a truly delicious and unique dining adventure.

A very memorable dining experience at NYC’s famous vegetable restaurant. We tried the Summer 22’ tasting menu and it was phenomenal. Pictured below in order of serving including two “gifts from the kitchen” (photos 2 & 4). So much creativity and flavour in every dish. Amazing service and ambiance. My favourite was the Corn Mousse.

Literally the best meal I've had in my life. The staff was amazing, always present without hovering and very kind/professional. Also I got so excited about the pizza dish I ate two slices before remembering to take a picture. They also offered us complementary wine to help us celebrate our anniversary and gave everyone in the restaurant two "gift" bonus meals. Seriously, if you can go here please do.

Absolutely loved my time here. Brought my teen sister who loved every element of the dining experience. Both of us had opinions about which veggies we didn’t like coming into this dinner and both left realizing that we do in fact love them, if they’re from here. Thank you for providing such an amazing first tasting menu experience for her.

We came late but the staff served us impeccably and with grace, for which I appreciate them very much. Dirt Candy introduces itself as a restaurant that focuses on how fun vegetables can be, and I think that largely came through, although there were some misses. In general, the food was on the bright and spicy side, and by the time the eggplant course came, delightful dumplings of eggplant confit, I was ready for something rich and different. I became a bit fatigued with the herbly, spicy, and sour notes, and the final savoury dish of corn was a very welcome break. Unfortunately, the dessert was confusing: tomatillo sponge with watermelon jam, and it was hard to detect them within the closed, stodgy sponge. I would like to come back to see their fall menu, hopefully with root vegetables and mushrooms.

This was my first ever fine dining experience. Went here for a celebration with my partner and the staff were all extremely friendly and personable. When I first arrived I had an awful headache and asked the FOH staff if anyone had any painkillers, and the shift leader / manager kindly pointed me towards the drug store around the corner. All of the food was obviously phenomenal and expertly crafted. The restaurant accommodated us for our vegan diets and the food was in no way less flavorful. Sat at the viewing bar and got to watch the kitchen team make all of that season’s dishes. Was overall an extremely pleasant experience and I can’t wait to come back and try their new menu when I’m in the city again. Edit: Forgot to mention, the PORTION SIZES here are phenomenal! Obviously the courses are on the smaller side, but over the duration of the meal you end up being absolutely stuffed. I couldn’t even finish the Eggplant.

Dirt Candy is consistently one of the best veg/ vegan restaurants for us in the city (and this is coming from a certified meat lover). My husband and I come back almost quarterly for their seasonal menus - and we are constantly in awe of the beauty of vegetables. Their tasty, reasonably priced tasting menu combined with a woman-focused wine list and fantastic service make this restaurant a must if you are in the city.

My family and I went here to celebrate my birthday and it was easily the best experience any of us have ever had! From the time we arrived all of the servers and host wished me happy birthday whether or not they ended up coming to our table. When they brought the food they explained the dish which I appreciated a lot! Some of the dishes were spicy and we didn’t know that beforehand, and for one of the courses my mom had asked our server if it would be spicy and just from that alone for the next course, they offered her the dish with the spicy sauce on the side. We didn’t even have to ask them. This alone was enough for us to rate it five stars and in our mind it justified the price and we understood why they have such high ratings! They also have gift courses and a welcome bite that are not on the menu, I thought they made the dinner entertaining in between courses, their cocktails/mocktails/wine were amazing and they gave great recommendations! As for portion sizes we felt full after eating but not uncomfortable, and the courses themselves were I felt the perfect sizes for the flavor that they had, I think if they were larger I would’ve felt like it was too much. My favorite courses were the zucchini, tomatillo, and the chopped cheese!! Truly grateful I got to experience Dirt Candy and I will definitely be back!

Great experience overall - the service was on point. Most of the dishes were delicious, the tomato dish and the mini burrito were outstanding. A few dishes were disappointing, like the corn dish or the pasta dish. Other than that we really enjoyed this place and the whole experience.

Extroidenary vegetarian. From the knowledgeable, friendly staff to the beautiful, creative, and delicious food everything about this place was fantastic! We experienced a five course vegetarian meal with wine pairings from exclusively women owned vineyards from around the world. Loved this place and it's values.

Went there on a Friday night late evening. Reservation is recommended. We stayed outside and as far as I’m wiring this review staying outside doesn’t require wearing your mask but inside dining you need to wear your mask. The service and food were good. They have a fixed course menu of 5 items and was nice that two extra (and gummy bears!) were extra dishes from the kitchen. I highly recommend this place and would visit it again the next time I’m visiting New York!

A feast for the eyes and tummy! This is a wonderful experience from start to finish. The restaurant is meticulous about enjoyment of each course and pre-course—from swapping out silverware to detailed explanations about what you are about to eat. I had no idea veggies could be prepared with such decadence and artistic craft. Each flavor/plate is unique and cannot be found in any other cuisines, it is such an innovative/explorative dining experience with each dish having contrasting textures and flavor pallets. The golden beet for example was a sweet and savory dish with the garbanzo-beet fries being salty and savory and the beet being light and sweet; there were also notes of spicy and creaminess from the whipped tahini, tangy yogurt and Serrano pepper sauce. The tomato tart was another sensory pleaser with thinly sliced tomatoes marinated with smoked feta on a crumbly tart, wrapped with a candied tomato skin and blanched and seasoned cherry tomatoes atop. The variety of flavors harmoniously blending is such a delight that words cannot do justice. This place is a must-try for any foodie!

Utterly delicious food with excellent service. I had the misfortune of buying gift cards to this place in December 2019, so I've been waiting to go here for a year and a half, and it was more than worth the wait. Everyone was super kind and attentive, the space was clean, and the food was utterly superb. Even my meat-loving dad was impressed by the quality of the dishes. I would absolutely go here again, one hundred percent-one of the best fine dining restaurants in NYC!

A wonderful gastronomic experience for a curious palate, this all vegetarian menu did not disappoint. It is a prix fixe seasonal dining. We tried the fall menu. In addition to those featured on the menu, there were a couple of additional items served. The highlights were the parsnips with oaxan cheese dip accompanied with a margarita shot, the celeriac latke and Japanese sweet potato. Also featured, a refreshing brussel sprouts salad, beet Napoleon and an arugula salad. The dining service is impressive and ambiance warm.

Dirt Candy’s five-course menu exceeds expectations and the staff explains you every dish with extra love and passion. Some of the dishes, including dessert, are a true masterpiece. Delicate bursts of flavors that you just don’t want to end. The wine pairing also deserves a special mention - organized around the theme of supporting women producers (kudos!), the selection of wines is spot on. Extra credit for the anti-tipping culture (Dirt Candy promotes paying staff adequate living wage and all). All the staff were amazing, super kind, and you get the feeling that all of that is genuine and not to get a few extra dollars. This restaurant truly has it all, highly recommended to not only vegetarians/vegans but really anyone seeking a special culinary experience!

This restaurant is fantastic. I can't believe anyone would rate this place anything less than five stars. I have traveled all over the world and have yet to find a vegan/vegetarian restaurant I have enjoyed more than this place. My wife and I chose to sit at the counter top, overlooking the kitchen. It was enjoyable watching the chefs meticulously prepare each dish. Every course brought to us was thoroughly explained by staff. Every course tasted better than the previous course. The interior also had low lighting, which set off a romantic vibe. I highly recommend bringing your spouse to this place.

Fabulous dinner tonight at Dirt Candy. We love Chef Amanda and team! Run, don't walk. Support this small business! Every dish crafted with skill and love. End of the fall menu. This was our third visit to Dirt Candy, and once again, it exceeded our expectations! It's evident that each dish is meticulously crafted to highlight the best qualities of the main ingredient. The plates resemble works of art, so take a moment to visually savor them before they create a “tasteful party” in your mouth. We relished every dish on the menu, along with the delightful surprise gifts from the kitchen. I highly recommend opting for the wine pairing, not only because it's enjoyable to chat with the wine expert, but also because it enhances the overall dining experience. Observing the kitchen staff at work as they prepare your food is fascinating; I suggest reserving a spot at the counter. In summary, Dirt Candy offers amazing food, seamless service, knowledgeable staff, and a fantastic atmosphere. It's a must-try restaurant in NYC.

Only prix fixe menu, which changes seasonally. Comes with 5 courses but we received 3 small additional courses. All the food was beautifully presented, really well balanced and filling yet not heavy. Phenomenal job to head Chef and owner Amanda Cohen and all of her employees. Love the no tipping system! Thank you for that! Yesss more corporations should learn from Dirt Candy! It made the service and the atmosphere much more honest!!!! Thumbs up to that! I’m not vegetarian and I personally love meat so in the end I didn’t find this very fulfilling. The best "feel-good" restaurant I have ever been to. Respect for nature, with sustainable ingredients. Respect for every professional working at the establishment with well-paid salaries. We enjoyed every moment of the experience. If you can, grab a copy of the Dirt Candy book: it’s an original take on cookbooks, with comics and the tales of hardship and passion to pull through opening a restaurant in NYC.

Great place for a celebration. Their tasting menu is worth trying but it is a bit of an unusual taste. Some of the dishes are spicy. We still enjoyed the experience. Come here with an empty stomach because by the end of it you will be very full. Also their veggie slushies were great.

We were blown away by the food! Coming in, we were skeptical of an all vegetarian menu, especially a Michelin starred one. Normally the options are carb heavy or raw vegetable forward. The summer tasting menu was neither of those. Each of the 5 courses was a beautiful presentation of food items within a single vegetable theme (Tomato, Zucchini, Eggplant, Corn, Tomatillo). Somehow each course including the side courses left us wanting more and more. My favorites were the Tomato and the Zucchini. Both just elevated what the vegetable was with different form factors and textures making it a star but avoiding that feeling of eating just a raw vegetable. And I don’t even like zucchini. The ambiance was also great. It did not seem too “fine dining” where you felt like an outsider if you didn’t know etiquette but a fun celebration of vegetarian food. We hope to go there every season! Excited to have had this experience.

Great vegetarian and vegan restaurant. The food as well as the cocktails were very unique and wonderful. Tipping is included in the price, so I think this great service is very reasonable. The course seems to change depending on the season, so I want to go to another season.

We went here for our anniversary and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It truly was an “experience.” The tasting menu is sincerely an art. We opted to do the wine pairing as well, and honestly Jackie was one of the highlights of our evening. I loved the way she is able to speak to wine! The dessert wine was just so delicious. Our favorite from the menu was the caviar and potato pie. We are both vegetarian, so when we go to a restaurant that is aaaaall foods we can eat, it is especially a thrilling adventure. It was a great place to kick off a night out. We ended up going to bar after and this was a nice lead in, since we weren’t overly so full (the plates are quite small), but had a nice base and of course had a gorgeous meal to talk about. Great place for date night! And there was a bachelorette party next to us, which also seems like a perfect idea.

Can't visit NYC without eating here! Creative, artisanal, delicious. Since the menu switched to five-course only, I was convinced I wouldn't be full. But by the end of the meal, all those tiny dishes + off-menu surprises added up! So good. (And bonus for tip being included in the prix fixe. 💲)

Dirt Candy’s Summer ‘23 menu slaps hard. This is my fourth time dining here and this iteration is leaps and bounds better. Even if you’re not vegetarian or vegan, as long as you like vegetables the meal here will put a smile on your face. In the past I’ve found Dirt Candy’s cooking “clunky”, but now it’s seamless while keeping the cheeky playfulness. Previous meals were four stars; this time it’s an easy five stars, maybe even six if possible. There wasn’t a single miss. Dirt Candy is the type of business we should support: no tipping, fair wage and full benefits to employees, giving credit where it’s due, and providing an affordable fine dining option for vegetarians and vegans. Vegetables are often unfairly relegated to side dishes. Here, the produce shines brightly.

Exquisite. Reasonably priced and tipping included. The corn mousse and tomato cake are unforgettable. Great for dates, parents or with vegetarian friends. Meat lovers won't leave disappointed with the flavors infused into some of the more savory dishes

Hard to even know where to begin with describing this place and the pleasure we took in the time we spent there. Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it’s moderately intimidating when you read the menu. But the staff are super friendly and will walk you through each dish without pretension and seem to delight in chatting about it after you finish it. The table next to us even got some extras when they clearly didn’t connect with one of the set courses and had left most of it. If you want to know what a high end vegetarian and vegan food experience can be, this is the place for you.

Your palette will thank you when dining at Dirt Candy. It was our first time with our 8 year old as we all go tie tasting menu. My husband got the wine pairing which was very generous. The use of vegetables and the preparation with each dish was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and genuine happy to share the dining experience.

This place is a true celebration of veggies. From the amazing staff, to the bold flavors, you will not leave disappointed. It’s hard to find a restaurant that is truly innovative with food in the way that Dirt candy is. They go beyond the expectations of what a vegetable should be, like the beet eclair that will continue dreaming about. I cannot recommend this place enough and I look forward to returning. P.S. - kudos to the restaurant for paying their staff a wage that does not depend on tips.
