Once the best gym in the city, the quality of this gym has dramatically declined due to mismanagement and the high price point is no longer justified (especially after they raised my rate by an obscene 30% in less than a year). The recent renovations were poorly thought out and have completely ruined the track and the workout experience on the weight deck. The track is now tiny with two narrow lanes and is no longer banked. There’s a massive and unsafe dip in the track on both sides. The track has a mondo surface but they recently put up a sign saying that spikes aren’t allowed. Mondo tracks are only good for spikes!! With the renovations, they installed this turf area right in the middle of the gym. It’s used exclusively for classes almost every night and it ruins the workout experience for everyone else at the gym. The music and the the shouting are so loud and unless you’re in the class, it just sounds like noise. I complained to the gm, Leslie, and she told me that she wanted it as loud as possible to make the gym seem more energetic to prospective members. I suggested she go to the strength class during Monday nights class to experience it first hand. Not only did she not do that, I noticed that she was taking the class!! Also, they offer gym money when you sign up but not even the staff knows what you can spend it on besides personal training so don’t fall for it.

POC, beware: I witnessed & endured harassment from a complete stranger & his boyfriend, referring to my hair texture & clothes being “low class”. This is what you get at Chelsea Piers in 2023. I’ve been going to CP since 1998. Until recently, it was a clean, modern, friendly place. Always premium experience that came with a reasonable cost. Now, they just price-gouge, and with no good reason. Aside from a few newer machines, CP has made no improvements. Linoleum floors that are peeling is what you’ll find in places like the TRX room, locker rooms that have made no change since built; The floors in places you expect to be sanitary, like steam/sauna are muddy and questionable. There’s nothing inspiring, modern or premium about the experience. Hand it to poor leadership that avoids interacting with guests, the desk is overstaffed by majority of employees are not working. Worst off, is expect your personal info to be shared with marketing companies. Very disappointed in Chelsea Piers.

By far the best gym I have ever been to in Manhattan! Immaculate facilities, tons of equipment, extraordinarily well-kept and fresh-looking locker room with an excellent sauna and steam room. However, what sets this place apart from the rest is the atmosphere and environment in the gym. It’s light and airy, with high ceilings and windows that let in tons of natural light, looking out to the river. Since it’s on a pier, you can even see the Statue of Liberty down the bay. It motivates me to come back every day. The sheer amount of activities here is mind-blowing, from the indoor track, boxing ring, volleyball, basketball, and pool. Even the stretching area is excellent, with the artificial turf. The cafe seating area can double as a coworking space with Wi-Fi and views looking south down the river. The coffee in the cafe is even good! They also offer a private locked bike storage area in the garage included in the membership. I can not say enough good things about this gym.

I have been a member at CPF for 1 year and I am cancelling my membership. It is a nice facility with a lovely roof deck and equipment, however it is not worth the price point and at times has been a very frustrating experience. Feedback on my experience - -The group fitness classes are meh, some are certainly better than others (I loved Juggy's classes and Shenika's) but I had some pretty bad experiences with their group fitness class (one instructor didn't make attempts to connect with regulars who came weekly, one didn't give modification options for exercises like running with a 30 pound bag and was rude to me when I tried to do something else, frequent mic issues, etc.) -This is my biggest qualm - incredibly difficult to get a hold of people and book sessions. My initial complimentary personal training session they double booked me for, resulting in me starting 30 minutes late. Since then, I have tried to book additional sessions, and every time I call the "FitDesk" who books sessions for you they aren't there. Their process for booking sessions also makes no sense - instead of simply having a master calendar of the trainers' schedules and availability, there is a representative to connect you to the trainer, then you email back and forth with the trainer and the FitDesk representative to find a time (if they even get back to you which I have struggled with), and then it is "booked". To get a hold of the representative like I said is nearly impossible, and some of the trainers are also very difficult to get a hold of to schedule time with once you are connected to them. -They recently brought in a vendor for food called Canteen, and it is horrible. -The mobile app is also not great, there is limited functionality -You get a credit when you join and no one has visibility into how much my credit is (can't find it on my app or in my initial signup email) -The amenities in the locker room are all unbranded which leads me to believe they aren't very high quality. -They raised their prices and even before then I was planning to cancel. Its a beautiful space, but does not hold up to the caliber it should for the price.

UPDATE - CPF refunded me the difference of the last month membership fee ($35). Though I've canceled my membership and have not been going there due to my moving, it's nevertheless still a great gym in terms of facilities, classes offered and instructors. Haven't found anywhere more comprehensive and at this quality. =================== I LOVE this gym! There's SO MUCH that you can do here and the class instructors are THE BEST. My ideal day would start with 2-3 hours at this place. And I've been recommending to all my friends who's interested in taking on a gym membership. Not anymore. I'm canceling my membership after one year. The price went up from $200 to $235 in a year. Although their trainers and onsite staff are all great, the membership department (except the guy who signed me up but left the gym) is beyond disappointing. When I signed up the rate was $200 - including all the fees and taxes. The membership staff *explicitly* told me $200 is all inclusive and all I have to pay, but then a few weeks later, they started charging me tax ON TOP OF the $200 fee. And without noticing me at all, they started charging me $235 before my first 12 months is even up. I contacted the membership staff over the email asking about the increased fee, one day later they called me during my meetings, left a voice message says they'd reply to my email to follow up. NEVER DID. I called up the number they left me, no one picks up. I love this gym but the membership department is only nice to you when they try to sign you up. And the Bluestone Lane onsite has the WORST staff. Making undrinkable lattes and never refund you even when they said they would. And NEVER shows the slightest sense of apologies even when they screw up your orders on repeats.

My experience at CPF has been pretty negative. Despite all of its offerings, the gym is severely overrated. First it is extremely crowded and you’ll be lucky to touch any of the equipment you want if you come after work. Second most of the amenities (basketball, pool, cycling rooms, etc.) are being used for classes or rented to groups, so it’s also very hard to use those. The space is open which is cool until you go to the gym when a class on turf is in session. They blast music which you can hear throughout the entire gym. Drake's cool, but I'm tired of listening to his songs on repeat on their muffled, cheap speakers. Finally, for an upscale gym, the service is horrendous. They charged me for extra months when I can’t use the gym when I tried to cancel. I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

They’ve increased the prices dramatically without notifying members. I’ll cancel once the winter over. Also they dont allow spikes on the track designed for spikes ***update*** In response to their response. They did send out a generic email saying that there would be an annual rate increase. The email did not however state by how much. Most members were on some sort of preferential rate, for example I was on the corporate rate. The email did not state that they intended to get rid of these rates. Some members received 50% rate increases which isn’t something you could reasonably assume from the email they sent. What they’re doing is unethical price gouging at a time when many New Yorkers are still struggling due to the pandemic. Also, I don’t think there’s any way to dm you directly just through the google account….

Things just keep getting worse. Leadership has to change. Management has become so focused on trying to recruit young tech workers and high school kids that they’ve pushed away long term members and destroyed the feel of the gym. It’s become unsophisticated.

This gym used to be really high class but it has gone downhill and the types of people they let in do not know how to behave and have no manners. People leave a mess everywhere they go and do not clean up after themselves. Staff need to actually tell people what appropriate behavior is instead of trying to keep up with cleaning staff running around these animals.

It wasn't my first time to enter a gym as a guest pass, but this was the first time for a receptionist to not know that they offered this option. They kept asking questions, then let us wait for the guy who showed us around, who also asked a couple of questions before doing so. Convenient place, but I didn't like the overall vibe of the staff.

The best gym in the city. But now they priced it too high. The gym has the tallest climbing wall and 6 lane swimming pool. Two big sun decks, Jacuzzi, sand volleyball, sauna, steam room, hot yoga, 400 meter running trail etc.

Not impressed at all, especially with the price increase and overall excessive greedy business model. Management here must think up new and consistent ways of fleecing the membership out of more money annually. For me the size of the facility seems excessive and wasted. The boxing area is very open and desolate. A few bags and a ring which seems pointless aside from the less than stellar classes. These fitness based classes are tiresome and really are not unique compared to less costly venues and gyms. Many of the trainers recycle through these and are often at the lower tier gyms. So the routines and exercises are the same. Way pay more? The place has a bit of a bourgeoise attitude, especially from staff at times.

I've been a long time hockey player at the Sky Rink for so many years now. So last year when I felt it was safe to exercise again I decided to finally join CPF. The strength deck, locker room and pool are very impressive, I'll say that. But since joining, I've discovered that the negatives far outweigh the positives. Although the staff consists of mostly nice, hard working people, I have had quite a few confide in me how hard it is to work there and how horrible the upper management is. I can attest to that since I have had several interactions with the General Manager and the Assistant General Manager not too long ago. Both were quite arrogant and acted like my issue was not worth their time, which was incredibly insulting and demeaning. I have to ask, who is in charge of hiring the upper management here and what exactly are the requirements? Because I don't think that either Leslie or Brett are even fit to be on your housekeeping staff. Being courteous, respectful, and kind goes a long way towards your members. Your owners should enroll them in a class to teach them these principles since they obviously do not possess them while interacting with your members. For the amount of money you are charging people for memberships, the very least you can do is treat your members with respect.

I considered Equinox vs Chelsea Piers and Equinox is so far behind on the facilities! I know it is a bit off the usual way, but if you want to just just pick up weights but also have fun, CP is so much better! They have endless facilities of rock climbing, basketball, my fav sand volleyball, swimming pool, saunas, kickboxing, running track around the entire space, sun decks.. and even better they also have classes for all types of sports! In addition, for me the deal breaker was when I realized that Equinox didn't have working space. The CP has quiet booths and huge seating area where you can work with a really good wifi.

The facility is in itself monstrous in comparison to other franchise based gyms. In this regard it inspires admiration. However, it terms of the daily protocols established by an inept and rapacious management, I will refrain from offering much praise. The increase is membership rates and charges is unwarranted. This is excessive and screams of predatory practices to increase the bottom line. The classes offered are a hit and miss. Coming from a combat background with extensive experience I have to say many fitness routines and instruction is less then desirable or optimal. For boxing, fitness is fine but this trend will hopefully decline as it is an contradictory to the sport. Go to a real boxing gym in the city for equal levels of fitness with realism and application as well as much needs competition. This drives your inner incentive to better oneself. Not doing mindless derivative exercises based on HIIT or pseudo contact drills. the lockers could use more upkeep. Numerous occasions I was unable to find suitably clean linen or towels. Also the hours of operation need to reflect the sleepless nature of which this city in accustomed. After all, I think the members are paying enough in fees.

I have had some free passes from a corporate bank event was held two years ago before Covid- the time that they gave they said there was no expiration date -we asked and they had said so back in that time- today the staff almost made fun of it. First of all, as a friendly reminder to your staff that we have gone through a big quarantine time. And when you were giving away, you had said they don’t have any expiration date. And another annoying attitude was how did you get it-with a smile on their face? Their attitude needed an answer like I stole it but anyway, I explained it nicely and left. My previous experiences were great btw. It’s a gem in the city and they probably think it’s enough. I would definitely prefer a welcoming place.

Best gym in all of NYC! I wish I could give 10 stars. I forgot to cancel my membership for months due to covid, and later when I found out, they gave me an equal length of free membership! Great communication, staff are super nice, and let alone the out-of-this-world large space, track (!!), gym equipment, classrooms, basketball courts, and a pool!! With a jacuzzi and a sundeck you can chill on! The locker rooms are super clean, showers are wonderful. My favorite is the group workout classes. So worth it!

Stop by the strength deck on any Monday evening and you'll hear at least a dozen complaints about how incredibly loud the music is in the class below. I've been to edm concerts where the music isn't this loud. It's literally damaging to my ears. The instructor is always the same and, surprisingly, he's actually the athletic director. There are so many nice people that work here and at least act like they care about the customer experience. Any one of them would be better suited to this role...

I love Chelsea Piers Fitness. Staff and instructors are friendly and resourceful. Classes are challenging and fun. Other members are nice. I honestly think having this much space in New York City relaxes people and be nice to each other. There is a sense of community and culture that no other gyms have. Did I mentioned how clean it is? The cleaning crews are the best. I used to come here back in 2015, but I quit after work got too busy. I decided to rejoin the gym to stay active after I got diagnosed for an autoimmune disease. I go there almost every day to do workout, yoga, swim, and rock climb. I lost all my pandemic fat and more, gained my mobility back, and feel so much stronger. I also do my freelance work on my laptop. The only complain is that music is too loud in cafeteria. Everyone there working with noise cancelling headphones, so that should be a clue to turn it down / remove few speakers from the cafe??? So loud that having hard time finding a place to do a quick zoom meeting. The deck is nice but sun bathers complain and frankly it's too bright and hot to stay out there to do the work for me....Also I miss old sushi / salad bar. Bluelane is not that good. I bring my own lunch or go to the diner two blocks away.

The immense space just hits you in the face. You can really spread out; no doubt it's a cool place. Two sundecks if you like fresh air. (Now they're holding classes out there.) The staff is nice enough, but they get treated kinda rough... Old timers fired, newcomers bone-tired. Nonetheless, as gyms go, it's the best. Though it is kind of far west ....

So much better than Equinox. Incredible instructors, very helpful and courteous/chill staff. The facilities are beyond incredible. Love the newly renovated lounge/work area. Fresh & Co inside, which is really nice because there are incredible organic and healthy options at great prices, but this location is inside the gym and exclusive to members and therefore has more product available (I find that other locations in the city tend to run out of my favorite items quickly) Great swimming pool, spinning, hot yoga room, etc. Rock climbing wall is beyond amazing. Sundeck is unbelievable. A bunch of other stuff I didn't use but are awesome too. Literally anything you could ever wish for -- all in one place. Their response times and feedback systems are especially amazing. Chelsea Piers Fitness may be the most underrated luxury yet. I just really love this gym. SO glad I switched.

The cafe is overpriced, the deck is an annoying selfie mall. I walked into a yoga studio to stretch only to find a dude in costume making his own music video. One quiet morning on the deck, some bro was narrating a YouTube clip for his channel without asking anyone if it was cool they were being filmed for the web what in the eff?. Also the pool, track, and deck too often farm part of their space to outside parties and random corporate events. Not worth the increase.

I went there on a guest pass and my god is it gorgeous. It's like the other reviewer mentioned - a playground for adults. You have almost everything you need there. You can easily end up spending hours without even realizing. Every one of the staff that I interacted with were at their friendliest. Loved the 400mtr track. Swimming pool and the jacuzzi were awesome. Locker room was clean and full of amenities. Wish I had tried boxing and rock climbing. Also wish it was in a more accessible location. Highly recommend this.

THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST GYM IN NEW YORK CITY. I was shopping for a gym for quite some time. I always wanted to go to Equinox but they did not let me even have a try workout and swim in the pool before I join, they had the poorest customer service full of attitude and pretentiousness so i decided not to join. Friend of mine suggested to give it a try to a Chelsea Piers Fitness. I was looking for a gym with a pool so i schedule appointment for a tour. Since the moment i walked in, it was nothing but incredible experience in so many levels. Anant welcomed me warmly, gave me a great tour, explained me the benefits that i get with the membership and I decided to join on the spot. $200 is not cheap membership but it is so much worth of every dollar and more. As a courtesy i got 300$ on my account that i can spend in personal trainings or guest passes and 3 training free. I did my free trainings with Marino who was super nice, funny and professional. In just 3 training Marino pointed out what i should work on and gave me great exercises and tips. I love to swim too, and their pool is just what I needed. Daylight, view on river, hot tub, never too crowded, again staff at the pool super nice. The best part is that i joined wall climbing class with Dante and it was mind blowing. Dante was such an amazing teacher, nice, professional, patient, and so encouraging and i am in owe that he actually made me do that tall wall all the way to the top. The feeling after is just beyond. I am hooked to wall climbing! All together i love that gym so much and i am so grateful and happy that i find it! Feels like home. Highly recommended guys!

Hands down the best gym I have ever been to. Also one of the most beautiful at the same time with views of the Hudson and New Jersey skyline. Locker rooms are kept perfect and clean, with at least one locker room attendant on staff to keep it that way all day. What's interesting is that the gym goes are quiet and keep to themselves. Gyms are notorious for having some animated characters, but that just doesn't happen here.It also has the highest balance of female to male gym goers I've ever seen. 200$/month is fairly expensive for a gym, but I box for example. Since there is already boxing equipment there I do not need to pay for a separate boxing gym in addition to a weight training gym, so I can justify the cost more. I've read it is the best gym in Manhattan for sports players and athletes, given the infrastructure they have there. Cant say I disagree with that either. 5 stars across the board.

We've been living in New York City for the last two decades and have always been drawn to Chelsea Piers for this and that (say, disco bowling). But when we had kids the stakes (on fun) were raised and Chelsea Piers has provided lots and lots of opportunities for just that--birthday parties, gymnastics classes, skate park, you name it---and we'll be happily hitting events and activities there ad infinitum!!!

Babysitting during the weekdays especially is unreliable. Came here for a class with expectations of babysitting being available and the babysitter wasn’t there despite me calling in advance. If this service is so unreliable, it shouldn’t even be offered. With all the rate increases, management should be better on this front.

This is far and away the best gym I have ever been a part in my life, it's honestly beautiful that something like this exists in New York. If you come, there's a few people you should make sure you meet Kelvin Santana -- membership advisor, made me feel welcome throughout my time at Chelsea and continued to take care of me throughout my time there-- not just up until the contract signing. Work with him! Mike Nicholson -- amazing trainer, you should absolutely hop on his group fitness classes Leon -- he oversees the swimming pool. If you go swimming, strike up a conversation with him, he's great!

Great facility with super nice front desk staff. I got very disapointed when I got bullied by a Muaythai instructor and got asked for extra cash under the table (not allowed) for the extended training during a class. And when I notified the management, they tried to gaslight me into thinking that It was my fault to ask a question during the class and he was right to bully me.

How do I begin to express my love for this place? I was a member from 2015-2018 and returned to the city in 2022, knowing I had to go back to CP. The whole gym is upgraded with the best equipment, much of the staff has remained and everyone is so incredibly nice. Not only is CP on the water, with lots of natural light, it's clean, spacious and hardly ever busy. The classes are efficient, fun and led by amazing instructors. People are happy, they greet you and each other, and you can really tell that they CP team puts in effort to plan great events and benefits for all. I am so grateful for this place!

The best fitness facility in NYC! And location/views are amazing! Love the basketball courts, volleyball courts, and the indoor track + amazing trainers!

They charge a $60 fee to try out one of their other clubs even if you’re a member. This is a very unattractive policy and feels unnecessarily steep considering the cost of a single location membership.

Awesome experience and worth the money, however I did face racism upon check in, POC beware of white receptionist.

Amazing facilities and great vibe. Shower facilities are amazing after a workout. Go there for the basketball court which are really dope and balls are provided. Too expensive, as a whole though.

❗️‼️‼️The place is nice, but today to do well and open the eyes of those who work in cleaning how they are treated, since they are exploiting them too much, I'm talking about the manager Christian Pazmino Regional Housekeeping and both the morning supervisor (Maria Nunez), a person who has no respect to speak and ask for things We agree that we should not judge anyone based on their gender, their skin color or their race and call people black or because they are Latino, since the responsible person is the manager who sends her to treat us like a slave and speak badly to us, it is time to speak for everyone cleaning since no one does anything,⚠️⚠️‼️‼️

My home away from home. Love this place. It’s like an indoor playground for adults. I literally spend hours here at a time. Worth the trip to the west side

Love this gym because of the location, and the freedom of choice and spacious activity.

This space is paradise in NYC. Simply love it. With all the craziness in the city and to be able to be a member of this fantastic environment it is a true gift. The views of the river alone is worth it. The staff, instructors, and trainers are all top notch. The place is relatively empty on off hours. Been there during peak hours but the space is so massive it is easy to find an empty space. If I could give this space 10 stars I would. Highly recommend!!!!

It has everything I need. It's becoming a bit too automatic and digital. I'm not their target demographic anymore

I was too happy to come to this gym. I have no words about the staff and the conditions.Everything was cleaned and the trainers the best. I'm writing this review with one star because when I decided to leave the gym for personal reason, I signed the cancellation form October 1 but the gym charged me again on October 2nd for $175. I went to the front desk, they said me that was a new menager who I have to talk with,Cecilia. I spoke with her and she didn't accept that was her fault but after I 3min of speaking she said that you have 30 days to make the payment cancellation. She didn't say that in the moment. And I asked her to send me an email showing me where is written this. It's been 1 hr waiting and I'm not receiving the email from her. I'm very disappointed cause I wanted to come back after 2 months but now I don't want anymore to come

Large and extensive facility. However, the air quality is quite poor-- the AC units do not all work so there are pockets of hot or stale air, coupled with open windows. Some of the weigh equipment is very dated and or rusty.

First time climber, so came to do the belay lesson. Awesome class and the instructor (David) was incredible. He made the lesson easy to learn and super fun. Highly recommend it!

I love this gym. The gym owners and the members are friendly, and the workouts are intense in the best sense of the word. You're constantly moving from stretching, to a pre workout warm up, the workout, then a cool down workout of sorts. This is a full hour of movement and activity. I wouldn't say it's hard in terms of degree of difficulty, but the programming has you sore the next day. I'm really happy I started here, it's been my favorite gym in San Francisco over the past three years (I've tried 5).

A true Oasis in Manhattan! Stunning views, very friendly staff, and great atmosphere. Since joining 6 months ago, I find myself visiting twice as much as I did at my previous gyms. They truly make going to the gym more "fun" and less "work". Highly Recommend!

I was offered a sign-up deal with one month free but was then charged more than the full amount in the end. I feel I was just lured in and then screwed over. Don't trust any deals they offer you or you'll lose your money.

Like another reviewer said, it’s beautiful something like this exists in the city. It’s so impressive what this gym offers that I think for the price, it’s extremely extremely fair. I go to the Brooklyn location but have gone to this chelsea location twice. The view is amazing and I love the track so much. It definitely has more facility options than Brooklyn location such as basketball court, volleyball, rock climbing, boxing etc. I do love that the membership allows you to visit both locations, definitely makes it worth it and keeps it interesting so your body and mind doesn’t get complacent! I do have to say, for a first timer it’s extremely hard to find especially if you don’t frequent chelsea piers.

Terrible place, would not recommend. The owners and management are absolutely terrible. The gym is Cold all winter and hot all summer. And the price increases every year. Juicebar is just not good. No good food options and not updated nearly enough. Near equinox prices yet, less than half the locations of equinox lifetime or tmple. Sometimes members can't even use the facilities they pay for because of company events. The managers really just don't care. The staff is a rotating door new faces every week because they can't maintain their workers. Most employees I've spoken too are not happy with the job. The staff itself is great. It's the higher ups who are not. Big space though.

I had previously wrote a review that I'm sure was deleted by someone who curates these msges. Chelsea Piers is a large gym but much to expensive, and does not offer things you would expect from a gym of this size. A day pass is $100+ which is absolutely ridiculous. The membership itself will go up in price every year bringing the monthly membership price to $300 mo/. That is the reason they dont tell you the price until you come in. The staff is great but management is horrendous. Management is generally unhelpful or unresponsive. Seemingly more concerned about their bottom line as opposed to how much the customers actually enjoy their time at the gym. If there's an event going on and you wanted to work out, good luck. You just paid $300+ mo/ to not even be able to work out when you want. You have to go around their event schedule. Ridiculous when youre paying so much money, and when the price rises yearly.

Facility is fine. Canteen is HORRIBLE. - $7 for prepared oatmeal - $5 for two hard boiled eggs and a couple of leaves (FYI pret sells this for $2.50) -$6.50 for a small packaged protein shake with 20g of protein - $10 for chicken Caesar wrap… except there was next to ZERO chicken Quality and price are both missing the mark. You state you are trying to foster an environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle - your pricing and quality of food do not reflect that whatsoever. You’re already making a nice margin on the ~$300/month membership (taxed out) - why do you need to gouge us on the food too? Incredibly frustrating. Considering canceling just for this - false ethos.
