Day pass (non-member) Adult: $33 plus $8 gear and shoes Kid: $25 gear and shoes included One of the very few places offering climbing for kids under 5. The are 3 routes for auto belay and 10 for staff/partner belay. For beginners there are staff belay classes for kids on weekends. The website is informative and updated regularly. The equipment and restrooms are spotless. The staff constantly clean and check out the environment. The staff was so friendly that you would feel like chatting with your friends. Highly recommend this place! Avoid the peak hours to enjoy the most of it.

Good bouldering. Fair weight equipment. Not much in the way of belay or top-rope, but that's not really what it's there for. Honestly, if you'd asked me last year, I would have given it five stars. However... I'm knocking one star, because I cancelled my monthly membership in February 2023, and it took them 3-4 months to do so, even with monthly reminders. When I asked them to refund me, they said the contract stipulated that they didn't need to cancel unless I asked through a specific channel. I confirmed using waybackmachine that the contract at the time when I signed it did not have any such clause (ignoring the fact that cancellation requests are not just something you should decline if you aren't particularly fond of them). And I'm knocking three stars, because after I called them out on that and asked for a copy of the signed contract to confirm, instead of correctly refunding me, they claimed that they would send one over. They have not, and I've followed up with reminders. To be honest, I'm not even mad about the money. $500 is not worth my time. I'm angry that the employees here wasted my time, and lied to my face repeatedly, and that there's very clear evidence that it was intentional instead of just an honest mistake. I used to love central rock; I got my first V8 here. Now I'm just kind of disappointed and sad when I think of the place.

I’ve climbed there a couple of times while visiting NYC. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Definitely a nice vibe with a good mix of boulderers across all talent levels. Setting is great with a lot of nice problems, again for all levels. Facility is nice and clean which seems to be part of the CRG brand. Really enjoyed myself.

Very good, clean bouldering gym. DAY PASS COST: $33 FACILITIES The main climbing area is below the lobby. There is one long top roping wall following the staircase and a much larger bouldering area. This bouldering area basically forms a circle with benches in the middle a and a small weightlifting area. There's no cardio equipment. Overall, the area is very clean. There are dedicated changing rooms but no showers. What's cool about this gym is that they have these chalk stations around the bouldering area. Everything is very clean and well maintained. SETTING In general the setting is moderately difficult. There is a V0/VB circuit that always has black holds. Otherwise, the routes are color coded but there is no association between color and difficulty. Each route is assigned a V grade which can be determined by looking at placards spaced around the gym. Each placard contains information about the three or four routes near to it. However, the closest placard to a route is not necessarily the one that has the routes information, so you sometimes need to hunt for it. In general I think this is a creative way to show route information and it's much cleaner than writing on some duct tape. The holds are in great condition. There are few holds with excessive chalk or shoe rubber and it's always easy to tell what color each hold is. Moreover the staff is careful to make sure that routes of similar colors are not adjacent to each other. The setting is pretty straightforward from V1 to V3 and I think that around V4 is where the more creative stuff like dynos are really thrown at you. There are about 80 routes in the gym by my estimate and the difficulties are skewed for V4 and below. CONCLUSION This is a great gym. It's expensive (maybe not for NYC) but very well maintained so you know the money is used well. I love it when a gym does more than the bare minimum to make the climbing gym a good experience. I'll definitely return here when I come back to NYC.

This is a great community. Our 11 year old has been taking lessons with Josh Hodge for several months now. He is great! He’s patient, kind, stretches her to try more. He also keeps the lessons interesting. It’s not the same thing each time we go. She’s not a “sporty” kid, and he is able to engage her in a way that keeps her wanting to come back. We’ve also experienced Josh (and others) interact with folks at the gym. He knows almost everyone — kids and adults. They’re a a warmth and real sense of community when you go. Highly recommend both CRG and Josh!

Really nice gym with fun route setting. The gym is in a basement and on the smaller side, but there's still plenty of walls to climb. There are also some weights in the middle and a small top rope section. The place is really clean and there are free chalk stations around. There are cubbies to put your stuff in and also combination lockers. Didn't see any showers, only 2 changing rooms and rest rooms. Probably to use as much space as possible for climbing. Most of the routes are below or around V5. There are not many harder climbs, which is fine if you're intermediate. It's also a bit pricey for a small gym ($33 for a day pass), but maybe I'm just used to Seattle pricing ($20)

Loved it!!! Great boulders, great walls, and great people! The setting was superb and had a ton of variety with lots and lots of routes. Despite not being the biggest gym, the space was used perfectly and had so many different wall angles. Not only that, but there was great density of holds and routes which made the gym feel twice as big. Plenty of fun routes for beginners, some tricky slabs for the intermediate, and maxed out with a powerful v10 and a few v9s. Even had a tension board, dope campus board, and some chill sport routes. Everyone was super friendly, gave great beta, and I even managed to get a free sticker from the staff! Great place to visit, can’t wait to come back 🥳

We started climbing at Central Rock Gym six months ago. We knew my son would need one on one instruction and were fortunate enough to have connected with Josh Hodge. Josh has patiently and persistently supported both my son and myself in gaining the strength and skillset to over come obstacles that stand in our way. My son has a physical disability and Josh has gone out of his way, on his own time, to inquire about exercises that would help not only enhance his climbing, but his strength overall. Somehow he manages to challenge my son and make it fun! We have been very impressed with how professional and warm the staff at Central Rock have been and feel so lucky that we get to climb there!

Our son has been going to Central Rock Gym for over a year now. We love that his passion for climbing has grown, especially since he met his current instructor, Joshua Hodge. Josh is so patient, kind and provides such wonderful guidance during lessons. He is able to connect with our son and has helped him build tremendous confidence. Our son has found such a valuable outlet for his energy. We have found that our son becomes much more emotionally regulated after his lessons with Josh. We look forward to many more lessons at the gym!

This is such a great gym for young climbers to grow their passion for rock climbing. It goes beyond athletics - I’ve seen my son develop determination, problem solving, team building and more. I highly recommend Josh Hodge as a coach - he has inspired my 13 year old tremendously over the past year+ that we have done private and group lessons with him. Watching his skills improve has been such a joy. I also really appreciate Josh’s approach and how he has also helped my son develop as a person during this time- from being courteous at the gym to critical thinking to having fun and celebrating milestones. This is such an impressive space and everyone here is friendly and professional. Highly recommend!

Excellent climbs! All of the staff are very nice! My girlfriend is a member and she takes me in on her guest pass once a month, perhaps when I have more time and don't have to travel for work so much I will join, myself.

Really solid gym, with great staff and plenty of interesting problems! One cool thing is they have chalk bins out around the floor, so you don't have to bring your own.

My son loves climbing with Josh Hodge at Central Rock on West End! His climbing coach, Josh is amazingly patient and supportive in his teaching technique. Josh not only teaches climbing, but is a great resource for my 15 yr old to learn about strength training. Through his lessons with Josh, my son's skills have greatly improved, as has his self-confidence and trust in his own abilities. His climbing time is a true stress relief from the all the pressures being a teenager brings.

Great facility for rock climbing. Our 7yo daughter is doing group classes with Josh Hodge there and absolutely loves it. What's cool about the classes that there's a new element every week. One week the kids are taking a plush toy to the top, the next week it's "the floor is lave" game. Every week there's something different! Highly recommended!

Really cool gym! Had a great time climbing there during a trip to NYC. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Community is really friendly, supportive and diverse. Route-setting is really good, with a good variety of climbing styles. Their walls consist of many unique angles which offer tons of cool boulder problems. Good mix of classic and modern bouldering!

Pretty solid facility, probably the best I’ve seen in NYC. Memberships are fairly priced and lessons can be booked. Beautiful entrance with limestone and trees that do not cover the massive sign that welcomes you in! Much love 💗

Visited this climbing gym during a trip to NYC for a wedding. The people here were great, and the gym wasn’t crowded on a Sunday. Enjoyed the route setting, and everything is color coded. It’s mostly a bouldering gym with a few autobelays and a few top rope routes. It’s a bit on the expensive side for a day pass, but it is Manhattan after all. Overall, enjoyed my visit here!

CRG and Josh Hodge have been “game-changers” for our two sons (now 20 and 17) and our family. The boys joined the club shortly after it opened and “found” Josh on their own. There are not enough stars to give him or enough glowing adjectives to describe him – he is kind, compassionate, professional, inspirational and communicative. He has been an extremely positive influence on all of us! Josh not only physically works with our boys to build their confidence, hone their skills and strengthen their bodies, but he has served as a mentor and role model. Our older son is in college and makes an effort to find time to train with Josh when he comes home for visits. I feel extremely fortunate that he is in our lives.

Our son (14) has been climbing at CRG for about a year now. When we joined, we decided to have him take some private lessons to be sure he knew exactly what he was doing, and we have yet to stop... Weekly lessons with Josh have been a game changer. It has been so great to see our child change both physically and mentally -- he is now motivated to get to the highest level of climbing. Josh is a patient, kind, and knowledgable teacher and coach, and our son LOVES his weekly sessions at the gym. Our privates have morphed into duets (at Josh's recommendation), which has been amazing for our boy! Josh is super easy to communicate with, and provides great reports where appropriate. We highly recommend CRG, but especially lessons with Josh!!

👍👍 It is an amazing stay for people that really just need a bed for the night in the middle of New York. We stayed for a week and first of all the location is unbeatable. Right next to central park and even in a 20 minutes walk distance to time square. I absolutely loved the immense gym. Alone for the...

🫤 Very disappointed with the gym's new timing. I chose PF over Blink Fitness although it was a little far away from my place because it would be open 24 hours and it really helps people who work different schedules. Remember, not everyone works 9-5. The 24 hour policy was what made PF unique and stand...
