A historical building that one might just walk on by, if not for the large historical plaques attached to the side, which harkens in its history. Fraunces Tavern served in many capacities during its history, but the one that made it most famous was when it served as the headquarters for George Washington for a period of time. It was also host to a variety of secretive Sons of Liberty meetings during the Revolutionary period, and is now commemorated as a New York City Landmark. The attached museum is also very cool.

The American history that one receives by visiting this museum is phenomenal. The front two rooms were constructed in 1719 remain as they were then. George Washington drank beer here.

Awesome to see the Long Room where George Washington bid farewell to his troops after the Revolution! We were only allowed into 2 floors on a Saturday- 3rd floor was closed. Enjoyed the George Washington comic and pop culture exhibit.

A good meal in thr Piano bar on a Sunday afternoon. Crowded and atmospheric. Followed by a wander around the Museum upstairs, where George Washington met with his officers during the way of Independence.

It’s a nice little museum. Wasn’t a lot of people when we went. It’s was clean. I loved seeing the old pieces of history and see how far we’ve come in life. It’s amazing how time can change so much things. A lot of pop culture is incorporated. Beautiful paintings. The menu of what the restaurant used to serve was really cool. Interesting what they ate. Kinda wish that they were serving similar types of foods to really transport you back in time.

The Frances Tavern has strong Revolutionary links, best known as the site where Washington bid farewell to his officers and resigned his commission. To visit the museum, go into the tavern entrance and up the stairs. You'll see the admission/gift shop ahead to pay for entrance. There are several exhibition rooms (don't forget to go upstairs to the next level too) covering The Long Room, the building, flags, historical context and the Sons of the Revolution. I loved the current exhibition on Washington in comics. It was great and such a wide range of examples covered ( I think the curator had a lot of fun with this one!). I think this is really worth seeing and makes for a nice stop in the area!

What a treasure! This museum offers a captivating journey through American history with thoughtfully curated exhibits, including artifacts related to George Washington. Ideal for history enthusiasts, the museum provides an immersive experience in a historic setting, shedding light on pivotal moments that shaped the nation. Affordably priced ($10 general admission, $5 seniors, and free for military/veterans) and very well worth a trip! Right around the corner from Alexander Hamilton's gravesite, too, which adds to the experience.

“The Room Where It Happens” vibe when I stood in the same room where General George Washington gave his farewell to his officers at the end of the Revolution 🇺🇸 I love this block, it’s like a proud reminder of NYC before skyscrapers.

This museum is so quaint, but actually hold a lot of interesting information! We got free tickets with the culture pass through the NY public library card. It's located about the Fraunces Tavern Restaurant.

Went to a Frances Tavern architectural tour and ate at the restaurant on the first floor. Learning about the history/story of the building and the surrounding area prior to going inside on the upper museum floors gave a lot perspective and allowed for the imagination to recreate how it could have been looking through the windows. Also just gaining the knowledge of all the people who may/have walked through those doors and then eating at the tavern was a great experience. Lots of awes and feels. The food was good and the drinks are delicious. I recommend a whiskey flight for those of you who like to explore new whiskeys. They have an extensive collection and the bartenders know their stuff!

Delicious food! The service is a little slow. The spectacular atmosphere: typical of an Irish pub with good music! I will repeat for sure.

A must-see when visiting Lower Manhattan. Where Washington bade his officers good-bye at the end of the Revolutionary War.

If you are interested in early American history and architecture, this is a very interesting place to visit. The museum occupies the second and third floors above the tavern. It is very well organized, is very informative, and has many interesting objects from the period. It's best to book a time slot online. Ticket is only $2. Highly recommended!!

Went on the architectural tour then stayed to eat lunch and couldn’t have had a funner experience. The history of the tavern was quite interesting and it was a fun tour overall. The museum is also a lot bigger than I expected with a lot of historical relics I was surprised to see. The food and atmosphere in the tavern itself was great, and I loved the fact that they had some live jazz while we were there. A great treat for lovers of history if you’re in the area!
