I specifically chose Russ & Daugters to try the classic Salmon & Lox bagel. 🥯 Service - brilliant, nice gentleman who helped choose the right order. Bagel - delicious, great quality ingredients, tasty and perfect to eat in the park. Worth waiting in line for a while to try it. Remember to go inside and take a card with a number and then wait for your turn.

I was looking for a nice NY Bagel so I went to Russ & Daughters which is an iconic Jewish bagel shop on the Lower East Side I got the Scallion Cream Cheese bagel toasted. There is also a wide variety of smoked and pickled fish and Jewish foods. The bagel was expensive $6 but it was well worth it the bagel was lightly toasted. The bagel was delicious and I was impressed with my experience.

Every time I visit New York this is the place I go for bagels - truly the best in all of NYC. They have dozens of varieties of smoked salmon which is really unique since you can select the flavor you like the most if you prefer a certain type of salmon (they don’t let you sample the salmon anymore since COVID which is a bummer). They also sell other items like dried fruit, deserts, and the black and white cookie which are also really good. I've heard that the wait can be really long, but I’ve always gotten lucky and was able to get inside and order right away. It really doesn’t get any better than this and I highly recommend this place to locals and visitors alike looking for the best bagels in New york.

Very cute cafe with very friendly staff. The staff are welcoming, and knowledgeable about celiac disease. I had the classic board with a gluten free everything bagel, and it was delicious. I could not even tell it was gluten free, the bagel was fluffy and had a great crunch. The portion sizes were not huge, but tasted great. The whitefish chowder was a surprisingly good soup. It is out of my comfort zone, but was very warm and they made it gluten free by not adding the matzo. Please check this place out! Hot coffee was fresh and had great presentation.

Absolutely delicious!! The bagels were scrumptious!! This was our first New York bagel experience and it did not disappoint. They take the orders pretty quick so watch out for that. The options were limitless. They also have sweets and other prepackaged foods and drinks as well. The shop was pretty small with no seating and it gets pretty packed. It’s all worth it!

Be ready for the huge line ups and the long wait times. Once you get through that the bagels are a hit. Classic bagel was alright we instead loved the pastrami style smoked salmon bagel. Also tried the caviar cream cheese with everything bagel which was really good.

A classic bagel shop in NYC. Throught its use of first-class ingredients and super-fast service, Russ & Daughters quickly became my go-to shop to grab lunch on the go. There's lots of different types of cream cheese + assorted smoked fish, etc. The chocolate babka was absolutely delicious too!

I did try the customize bagel which I chose the onion bagel (The crispy garlic and onion texture over the bagel is good.) and I chose the original cream cheese which was so nice and delicious as well, lastly with the salmon (I asked them to recommend me and I couldn’t hear properly about the type of Salmon is but it was nice as well.) The store is clean and full of merchandises. The vibe is good. Love it.

Really good lox bagels, very impressed by the quality of salmon they used. For $16 we had the lox bagel with cream cheese. Take a ticket and wait for your number to be called out. The only downside is that there are no seats available.

Heard about this spot quite a bit via YouTube. Great bite for breakfast. Line up was pretty long, however, I don’t mind when it comes to busy spots, all part of it. Got the classic bagel and lox sandwich on an onion bagel with scallion cream cheese with tomato, onion and capers. Excellent sandwich. I’m not the biggest bagel connoisseur, for me the bagel was a bit on the harder side. Also it is quite expensive, nonetheless, I would definitely come back.

Delicious & wonderful. Everything bagel plus the lox cream cheese were great. They also sell some delicious fresh squeezed orange juice. I say get there a lil early if you can, because the line forms quick; but if not, no big deal because they move pretty fast. You take a number & wait your turn. Definitely worth going & trying & definitely worth returning.

The fish was excellent. The bagels were perfect. There was definitely some patience required to deal with the crowd but the food is great and the ambience is super fun and old-school. All the employees were very nice — don’t be shy about asking for details about the flavors of the different fish, the host at the door was happy to discuss in detail the different kinds of salmon and the sable and the other fish.

Very cute deli serving bagels with a great range of fillings, from cream cheese spreads to different types of smoked fish. The bagels were top notch and their salmon is amazing. They also sell canned goods, a few sweet treats and coffee.

Went around noon on a Monday, line wasn’t bad with about five people in front of me. They only allow five people in the store at once which was actually a nice change of pace from the last time I came years ago and was elbow to elbow with people jam packed inside. Now I was able to browse all of the different counters and see all the options. Ordered pastrami lox on a pumpernickel bagel and a side of whitefish salad. Pastrami lox was so unique and buttery soft, great flavor and went very well with the light pumpernickel flavor of the bagel. The whitefish was tasty and smoky, would have gone well on a bagel to help cut the salt. Pass on the back and white cookie though, it was small and dry.

A big fan of the bagel scene here in NYC. The best I’ve had so far has been at Russ and Daughters. The selection is fresh and vibes are light and immaculate with an ode to the restaurant’s history. A big yes to their classic nova board (deconstructed lox bagel) and their potato latkes are fire! We also had to have their pumpernickel bagel with scallion cream cheese - simple but so satisfying. Waiting on our next visit.

Long line. Got in at about 11:30. Got food at 12:15. Great experience though and unbelievable food. Nowhere to eat at this location. They only let a few people in at a time so you really get to browse around and enjoy it like it’s not crazy busy.

The salmon was great. The bagel was bit hard tho. There is a long line in front of the shop since they only allow 5 customers inside at a time. The operation could have been better to speed up the service.

What a place. My cousin laughed at me for going here and said it’s a tourist bagel spot. I would get a bagel here everyday if I was a bum on the street. YES! IT WAS THAT GOOD. I waited in line for 30 minutes but in all reality that’s a first world problem. The smoked salmon and caper bagel with onions was out of this world. The atmosphere was great and it’s in such a cool neighborhood.

The place taste amazing on the tongue! Seeing all the food being fresh and made to it’s service need and all is great! The staff there is quite nice, however I am not quite sure if I’d pay that price for bagel every time. I came here after seeing so many people review and rave about this bagel place. But I’d have to agree with many of the reviewers that this is a need to at least try once experience. The bagel is soft and nice and warm off of the oven, they have so many different flavorful cream cheese flavors along with salmon selections that will make you think of bagel again if your weren’t already a fan. There is a expected line outside though, especially now with COVID because they only really allow 5 people/party in at a time. They all recommended the everything bagel with the classic and Scottish salmon! And that’s exactly what I got and it was amazing.

Beautifully preserved bagel shop that’s been open for over 100 years. Went on a Monday morning and got a ticket at 10am, about 32 people in line ahead of us. Line moved quite fast. Probably 30 min wait. Ordered the meshugge and a daughters. Tasty bagels and smoked salmon. Total was about 50$. Very friendly service. Good bagel, though nothing that special about the bagel or smoked salmon that would make it worth the wait or price. I’d say 90% of people in line were tourists probably checking out the hype.

Great bagel sandwich! My husband and I both tried the pastrami style smoked salmon on our bagels - so good! The bagels are a bit harder than you might find elsewhere but I thought the texture worked perfectly to maintain the sandwich structure. They accept card but have a $10 minimum for it (you’ll hit it).

I was up early so decided to hit up this contender for top NYC bagel as lines can be lengthy later in the day. So worth it!! I had the classic salmon on an everything bagel. Bagel definitely amongst the best I’ve had in the city but the salmon was absolutely amazing and is what really sets this place apart from other bagel shops around town. A new favorite for sure!

Very busy bagel shop, with variety of other jewish delicacies. Its seems like its always very busy, no place to sit down so we ate at a bench nearby. Homemade bagels with variety of different cream cheese, salmon, egg salad, chopped liver and many other items. Excellent bagels, egg salad and everything else I tried. Service is a bit slow as they are very busy. You must take a number when you first enter in order to be served. There is also all kinds of chocolate and other deserts.

Prepare to queue on a weekend morning, and the bagels may cost more than what you’d get in other stores. But it’s worth it! Bagels as you like them (plain, poppy, everything on them, etc; toasted or not), your choice of fillings, and really good fish. The staff has excellent attention to detail as well, slicing salmon as ordered (presumably so they don’t dry up?) and including only the good parts in your sandwich. Delicious stuff; would go back to this one

I don't get the hype. Good bagels and lox but I fail to see why this place has such long lines all the time. Tip- arrive at the opening hour to avoid the queue. As of October 2021 they only let in around 10 people inside at once.

Pretty amazing shop! It was packed due to holidays and almost stayed there for an hour! Had awesome bagel and cream cheese! They had a lot of options for fish! Being vegetarian they had still enough options for bagel and cream cheese! I must say they do take a great care for customers even though being packed and customer service is a top notch!

THE BEST BAGEL in the world. Yes I said it. Probably also the most expensive one but it was so worth it! We were welcome by a French guy that happened to be we are from, what a coincidence then picked up a ticket to wait in line. It goes by pretty fast although many people were lining up. We had a classic one: it was SO good we had to come back on our last day for another one - everything tasted so amazing, all products are such good quality, the cream cheese, the salmon, the bread !! Even the red onions. The combination of everything made our first bite feel like heaven, I am not exaggerating !! This is a staple, a must try for sure.

Fantastic! The pastrami smoked salmon is the most delicious smoked fish I have eaten. The distinct smoked salmon flavor intensifies as the fat warmed and melted in my mouth. It was such a treat! The surgeon was also great as was the bagels. There is so much cool stuff to try and eat that a returned visit is definitely needed.

Great fish and bagels. But for what it is though.. you’re paying for the hype. It does taste good however but 21 dollars for a bagel and 2 drinks … idk

New York might have bagel shops at every corner of the street, but there’s no other place like Russ & Daughters in the LES. Even walking by at 8:30 in the morning, expect to see a small line of people waiting outside to order bagels, smoked fish, and other goodies that lie within the store. There’s a reason why they are a long-standing classic in the city! I tried numerous bagels during my trip to NYC, but there was no place that had fresher lox and cream cheese than R&D. The lox wasn’t salty nor had any weird texture that some joints may carry, and the cream cheese was very smooth and had a beautiful tanginess to it. It was a pretty expensive sandwich (around $14), but I will most definitely recommend this place to visitors and will be a returning customer.

I could tell from the moment I opened the door and the aroma filled my nose, that this would be a great place. Honestly I wish I checked out this place before the day I was supposed to fly back across the country. I wanted to try pretty much a bit of everything. However I did get the bagels and the potato latkas. The lady who helped me was kind and very informative, letting me know they ship their products overnight to just about anywhere in the US. The bagels are amazing and perfectly made. Got a dozen assorted and all the bagels I was able to try were amazing, including the poppyseed, sesame seed, everything, and the cinnamon raisin bagels. Definitely would get an everything bagel with one of the cream cheeses next time I'm in NYC. The potato latkas were perfectly cooked and fresh. I will have to order direct and have them ship some bagels, cream cheese, and some other stuff to me after the holidays.

Legendary spot for lox. Great people and great bagel sandwiches. We got the Classic and Fancy Delancey. The classic is of course cured salmon, onions and capers with cream cheese. The fancy is tuna, wasabi roe, cream cheese, and other assorted delights. Just incredible. This one is worth multiple visits!

This place has the best smoked salmon! They slice it straight from a side of salmon right in front of you. The slices are paper thin and beautiful. For our family of 4, we get 1lb of the Scottish salmon (thinly sliced), bagels and cream cheese, all a la carte, and then assemble at home. So simple and so delicious. Be warned, this is a small space and usually crowded, but full of atmosphere.

  • 5/5 Tim B. 6 months ago on Google
The Scottish lox and scallion cream cheese bagel was amazing as was the caramel covered pecans. The smoked fish is so fresh and the way they slice it fresh to put in your bagel is tantalizing to see. I would definitely come here again.

this spot holds the title of NYC's premier bagel place since 1914 Opted for a garlic bagel featuring lox cream, salmon roe, and a pastrami-cured smoked salmon core with capers, onion, and tomato. Despite the steep price at $27USD, I was determined to try one of NYC's best bagels, so yum 😋

  • 5/5 Lee C. 5 months ago on Google
Very friendly staff who clearly love what they do. Lots of care taken when making our food which tasted amazing. We had the gravlox with scallion cream Cheese on a toasted bagel which tasted so fresh. We also had the pastrami russ, the flavours were well balanced and again very fresh.

Incredible bagel and lox shop. They have multiple types of smoked salmon and lox. The bagels and fish are delicious. They also have a small candy shop in the store with chocolates and other small treats. The wait is about 15-20 minutes. The pricing is reasonable for what you get.

Russ & Daughters, an iconic NYC bagel joint, offers a diverse selection of bagels with an array of fillings. Opting for the classic smoked salmon and cream cheese combo, the experience was undoubtedly good, though it didn't quite reach the level of fantastic. It's worth noting that the prices lean towards the higher side, seemingly reflective of the iconic status of this establishment.

As a traveler in town from the south, i was pleasantly surprised at the amount of fresh goods made in house. The root beer and beet shrub were my go to drinks only because i didn't have enough space for anything else! The pastrami salmon with all the fixings is what I ordered and would recommend. Worth the wait and be sure to try the candied fruits,a pastry or the house chopped liver or house mustard.

  • 5/5 David Y. 1 year ago on Google
This was a bit of a wait (25-30 min.) for us, but I didn’t mind too much as I enjoyed the atmosphere and different sections of the store. Has a classic Jewish shop feel to it with a kind-of modern flare. I got a black poppy seed bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese, gravlox, tomato, onion and capers — which was amazing. The bagels taste high-quality with a nice chew to them. Only downside (besides the wait if you’re impatient and come at a certain time) is that you have to walk a bit to find a place to sit down and eat.

  • 5/5 Caroline L. 1 year ago on Google
quite the variety of cream cheese flavours! we tried the horseradish dill on a pumpernickel bagel and the lox spread with scallion cream cheese and veggie add ons (capers, tomatoes, onions). the lox bagel was super fresh (they cut it directly from the fish), highly recommend. the cream cheeses were unique and delicious!

  • 5/5 Alicia C. 1 year ago on Google
Delicious, authentic Jewish bagels and lox offered here. This shop makes their own bagels and cream cheese from scratch, and the freshness is evident. Expect long lineups during peak hours, but the flavours are well worth the wait. Highly recommend the classic.

An institution! Love the variety of smoked salmons and cream cheese options. Line was about 10 deep out the door when I arrived for lunch, but it moves pretty quickly. Friendly and helpful service got me what I needed quickly, and the sandwich was devoured soon after at a nearby park.

Came here on a stopover in NYC to this "Must go to place" sadly I'm disappointed. I asked for everything in my classic bagel to get to the hotel to find only the salmon and cream cheese ( no capers, onions etc). I also ordered the chopped liver and pickle bagel only to find only chopped liver ( which is tasty for sure) both bagels didn't taste fresh and were quite chewy. Sadly didn't live up to the hype..
