I will not recommend going here. I went during my office lunch break at 12 noon as it is scheduled to open then. They did not open until 12.12PM and we had to stand outside in the scorching sun. After requesting them twice, they let us in. If you have been to india, you’d know it’s not a customer friendly country and this is one such example of how they are bringing this culture abroad. Food is good👍🏻

Beware : this is not traditional Adyar Ananda Bhavan chain , he’s just using same name to mislead people by modifying the Logo. People just tend to search famous chains , specially if you are tourist or new to town . Overall experience was just terrible , food was okayish but restaurant is not very well mamintained and service is just terrible ( worst service ever ). Specially manager is sooo rude and weird , he just makes up his own rules and charges extra whenever he wants . Like for extra chutney , he forced me to pay (it was not mentioned anywhere in the menu nor did he specify any of things while placing order ). I had to get up 2-3 times while eating for more water or tissue , none hardly pays attention , you could be waiting for ages before they come to you . I dare you to order filter coffe , it’s just instant coffee , not even close to your regular filter coffee . There are several hotels and chain within New York , even for Indian food , there are much better options , please never go here unless you want to get disappointed .

Second time at Adyar Ananda Bhavan and had an excellent meal. For appetizers we shared idli and vada combo and it was delicious. For mains we got ghee masala dosa and rava onion chilli dosa. Both were excellent. We asked for some dosa podi on the side (gun powder masala mixed with ghee). Way better than Saravana Bhavan. Enjoyed our meal. Ended up trying utthapam and was amazing as well.

Great food! Hands down the best Indian on the UES if you are vegetarian/very vegan friendly and they even offer Gluten Free & Nut Free options. However, the service is extremely slow and almost non-existent. Also they have weird quirks like an extra charge for using credit card, no sharing and take out is $1 extra charge for containers. Hence taking down 1 star from my review. Even with their weird quirks, the food is so delicious and since I live in the neighborhood, I keep going back. Just don’t expect 5 star service and bring cash. Their food is so good that you will forget the bad service and their weird quirks.

This place has been our mainstay for south Indian food in NYC over the years. After a hiatus of several years due to the pandemic, we revisited A2B for indoor dining and greatly enjoyed ourselves. The idli vada combo, the Rasam, and the butter masala Dosa were excellent as always. The Rava Masala dosa felt a tad chewy (not as crisp as I remembered) but overall, we were very pleased with the experience. The Gulab Jamun was a nice way to round out the meal. This place is worth a visit if you're craving South Indian food in NYC! Update: Went back for more great food! The experience was great, even though they had issues with sending the food to the wrong tables, which led to longer than expected wait times. Hope they resolve this quickly! We had the Rocket Dosa, the Bullet Dosa (dosa with Pav Bhaji Masala inside it), and the South Indian Thali. All were excellent!

Service was friendly and the food was good with very large portions. Staff was kind and the manager/owner was very kind to our kids during our experience. Space is well decorated and clean. Prices generally in line with typical South Indian in NYC.

Wide variety of south-indian dosas, authentic chutneys and sambar. Quantity worth the price and fulfiling. Auto-included 15% gratuity in our check (group of 4).

Great tasty South Indian food. Service and ambiennce fell short of the expectation. Including serving water or providing plates and utensils on time was not taken care of. If you keep all that aside, the food was really yummy. Little attention to customer service will make the restaurant a real 5⭐

Just ate here for the first time with family. The food is so good. What we got wasn't spicy but was VERY flavorful. If i could afford it(it is NOT expensive compared to other restaurants, i just don't spend much money on eating out) i would eat there every week. Seriously. I would definitely go back for another special occasion. Charming and tasty!

This is the most terrible South Indian food I’ve ever had. The chutneys were cold (which they refused to change), my mysore mallai masala dosa was extremely bland, chilli parotta tasted of poor quality oil and was oddly sweet. Their chai was also watered down. Service was mediocre at best. I don’t understand how they retain customers. I didn’t like a thing they served me. Please avoid if you can.

My family has ordered from here for years now. The food is incredible comfort food. Some dishes can be spicy but it is consistently delicious every time. Items are packed well and portions are great.

This was my first visit to NYC. I am a pure vegetarian and I enjoy good food. I was suggested about A2B by my cousins who live here and we tried this restaurant. The experience was beyond expectations. The food is super amazing. The taste is authentic. Someone who is missing food from India will enjoy here extremely and might totally forget that they are having it in NYC. We ordered lot of food and every single dish was amazing. Everything has its own amazing flavour. It’s a must try restaurant for people who love South Indian food. Please go and checkout this amazing restaurant for super delicious food. You will not regret.

Ordered a Gobi Manchuria. Taste was alright. The price is way too high for that tiny portion size. $15 for this!!

I ordered take out. Food was okay I didn’t like the vada it was hard but the rest was okay. I also didn’t like the way it was delivered or packaged though compared to other restaurants. Also the order took too long to arrive and kept getting pushed. It wasn’t as bad but could’ve been better. Overall, it was good

I recently dined at Adyar Ananda Bhavan , a fantastic vegetarian restaurant, and it was a delightful experience. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. The menu was a plenty of flavorful and innovative dishes that catered to a variety of dietary preferences.

This place is fabulous. Everything is so flavorful—the gobi manchurian is addictive, the dosas are huge and scrumptious, the baingan bharta is smoky and sweet, and it all has just the right kick. I haven’t tried a dish I don’t like, and I’ve tried almost all of them at this point! I bring friends here for dinner and continue to cater work lunches from them—because my colleagues keep asking me to :) Oh, and did I mention that it’s reasonably priced and the portions are large? Just a great neighborhood staple.

One of the best vegetarian/ vegan place to try. Food tastes really good, ordered paneer ravva dosa, pongal, tamarind rice and filter coffee. Happy place with soulful food.

The restaurant is conveniently located and easy to find. Great food. All vegetarian. If you’re looking for good South Indian food, it’s definitely a great pick! However, the service is beyond ridiculous. As poor as it gets. Poor hospitality, terribly slow, they forget orders over and over again, no coordination between the staff members, and can be really rude. This is NOT a quick-bite place. Unless you have a good two hours, I wouldn’t recommend going there. My experience at the restaurant was echoed by customers from at least two other tables.

Great food. Great coffee. Must try mysore masala and rava onion sada. Service is sometimes slow but on point most of the days.

A quality South Indian food joint serving the best of South Indian food. The menu is quite exhaustive, food is served hot and the taste is good. A bit pricey, but worth it due to quality and hygiene of the place.

This is my favorite restaurant in this city Ive been here over 20 times and am trying to cover their entire extensive menu - its becoming an obsession. No other Indian restaurant in this price category even comes close in terms of taste, freshness, and exactness of flavors. Sometimes the service is a bit gruff but so what who cares the food is delicious. I don’t understand the negative reviews this place is a solid 5.0/5.0 but don’t mind because it leaves more table space for me!

I love the food at this place, one of the best Indian I’ve had and quality is always consistent. Serving is always nice. Plus, affordable great food specially when compared to other places that have similar dishes, I usually pay half the price here and food is much better.

Food was really delicious, real good authentic south indian food. The place was smaller in size than I expected(it's in NYC, that's expected). I would say the A2B in NJ was slightly better both food and ambience wise. But if NJ is not an option a definite must go.

When we called to make reservations, we specified a request for outdoor seating as our young children are still unvaccinated and they agreed. But when we got to the restaurant, they said they didn’t offer outdoor seating. My disappointed 8 year old son who loves South Indian food has insisted I write this review :)

Bought Pav bhaji and samosa chat for dinner. Pav bhaji - stale and tasted wrong, and pav were like rubber. Samosa chat - the green chutney had excess food coloring - almost neon green. Order from here very frequently but very disappointed with the food quality today. Communicated with the host; who seemed defensive.

Tried the bhel puri, samosas and masala dosa. Bhel puri was good, samosas were average and dosa was good (could have been more crispier)

OMG the South Indian food here is fantastic.

Not sure how I lucked out but I received excellent service. Thankfully didn’t deal with the rude staff that others have written about. I’d never had dosa before and wasn’t sure what to expect. Selected one with potato and came with four sides. Huge crispy pancake or crepe like tortilla device and absolutely loved it. Was a wonderful vegetarian meal and supplemented with a nice warm tea that I also really enjoyed.

This place is my favorite restaurant in not only New York, but literally the world. It has the best food and it is such a pinnacle to how Indian food isn't just butter chicken and rice. It's a great place to try out south Indian food if you've never been or want to have your friends try the cuisine. Everything is amazing, but I usually get the rava masala dosa and the samosa chaat (which is to die for). I personally eat the samosa shells, and then eat the samosa filling with the dosa. I'd eat here everyday if I could. And there have been times when I've eaten here 7 days a week.
