We were appealed by their great reviews and decided to give Ethiopian cuisine a try. Bunna cafe serves plant-based authentic feast and traditional coffee. Bunna means “coffee” in Ethiopian, so it’s definitely a must try. The option on menu is limited, but we are not familiar with Ethiopian food so we still had a hard time making up our decisions. The staff was friendly and explained everything in details. We got a Feast for 2 Combo and a cup of iced coffee. Their food was overall decent and the coffee was pretty strong. The staff recommended to use hand, as their authentic way, to enjoy our dish but we gave up and switched to fork half way. Our favorites were the flavorful Kale Salad and creamy Lentil Sambusa.

I really enjoyed the Ethiopian breakfast, especially the brand (ful). I'd like to check out their normal menu too. The coffee was too strong, and they had a single overworked waiter for the entire large space.

Great spot for vegetarian Ethiopian cuisine--sample all the different dishes with the "feast" for two or three. No reservations required and the waiters are not at all pushy. Be warned however this place turns into a loud nightclub around 7pm on Fridays and Sundays. We were seated right under the speaker and couldn't wait to leave after the atmosphere changed.

Super delicious Ethiopian food! Bunna cafe is very cozy, no reservations possible. We waited some time at the bar and enjoyed drinks. Shared the feast for 3 and it was so good! Nice and friendly service. Highly recommended

I didn't know this was a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. I just smelled good things, so I sat down and ordered. I tried their sangria, Shai tea, and $10 lunch special. Everything was DELICIOUS! First time trying Ethiopian Food and I'm hooked! I'll definitely go back.

Weekday dine-in lunch review: oh my gosh, what delicious food!! The Lentil sambusa appetizer was so fresh. We ordered the lunch special, all the dishes were fabulous but the kale was a real standout. And the coffee baklava was the perfect end to a phenomenal meal. Service was great as well. We’ll definitely return!

First time trying Ethiopian food 🇪🇹 and i went with a friend for my b.day. Enjoyed the experience to eat on the same plate. We ordered the feast for 2 (even though that’s food for at least 3 people😂) for $49 + a couple of appetizer and mango juice (freshly squeezed) that is served with pomegranade syrup (if i am not mistaken). On a mission to try all the vegan spots in NYC

Love the food here. One of the best Ethiopian dishes I’ve had. Everything was vegan and plant based. The food was also delivered in cardboard boxes instead of plastic which was great. Definitely recommend this restaurant!

First time trying Ethiopian food? Go here! Food: Authentic and delicious food. Feast for 2 was perfect amount for 2 people. Each dish had its own distinct flavor and you can explore different flavor combos. Food came super fast as well. Service: Staff is friendly. They more less leave you alone. Perfect, if you’re looking to eat alone and not be bothered.

The food was very delicious here but the service ruined it. We walked in for lunch at 3:40pm and the lunch menu ends at 4pm. We had to call the waiter 2x to place our order. When ordering at 3:54pm the waiter actually made sure to look at the time to ensure we could still order the lunch menu. Our food came and it was placed on a half injera with 2 small rolls of injera on the side for each of us. I have never had my food placed on a half injera before at an Ethiopian restaurant. It's traditionally always placed on a full plate size injera. Halfway through our meal the waiter comes back to us to tell us that they gave us an extra roll of injera and that it would be a courtesy this time (though the menu says comes with 2 rolls of injera). We later asked for the bill and the menu to check again if we misread the menu. But the menu said 4 scoops of items and 2 rolls of injera. We questioned him and he said that the injera placed on the plate was considered 1 of the 2 injera allowed for each of us. 1 injera is not enough to eat your meal with nor is 2 injera enough either. I have never had to pay for additional injera at any Ethiopian restaurant! I will not return to this restaurant.

Stumbled upon this place very randomly. Decided one Monday night that I would give it a try. I’ve had Ethiopian food before and was really interested to see what plant based/vegan dishes would account to. I knew they wouldn’t miss with flavor… they didn’t! I never had cachaca until I was able to try the calpirinha( probably not spelled right 🤷🏻‍♀️). Just know I left content and filled with an array of spices and flavor. Despite all the amazing flavor I would have loved better service. There was only one guy waiting on all the tables. The experience would have been a 5 star. Another random dinner night is in the near future.

Loved it! Got the feast for 3 with extra injera and it was more than enough for 5 people. Loved the variety of flavors and textures and I didn't even realize it was vegetarian (vegan??) until a friend later told me. Would definitely go back. Service was okay.

Nicely aesthetic of the entire restaurant and outside area, friendly and attentive service and delicious food. We had the gluten-free version - make sure to mention it if you are also intolerant to gluten. I’ll go again very soon!

Okay food. Average service. excellent lentil sambusas. Did not care much for the flavors of any of the dishes. I have had Ethiopian food many times and this one was a disappointment. Three stars namely because the lentil sambusas and mimosas were great!

I thought Bunna was a pleasant dinning experience. The atmosphere was truly one of a kind. I’ve never been to Ethiopia but they created a vibe that felt true to environment. The food itself was cozy. Cozy in the sense of the preparation and quality. Def a place worth eating if vegan/vegetarian. Food of great nutritional value.✨

It’s pretty good food (I’ve been to MANY Ethiopian places), service was fast. Most expensive Ethiopian place I’ve ever been to though. Extra charge for injera- they clearly don’t include enough with orders on purpose. Cute decor. Good stop if you’re in the neighborhood.

I came here with a group of friends unaware that it was vegan and I wasn’t very excited about it. It is bomb! We ordered the feast beyaynetu combo. It was one of those meals where I couldn’t stop eating because it was so good. The cocktails were delicious too!

Really enjoyed Bunna Cafe. Sat at the bar to begin and then moved to a table, the food is fantastic, very reasonably priced (pic is the feast for 2), I eat a lot and was full needing a take out box. Cocktails decent, beer was great. Highly recommend

Bunna Cafe is soulfood for me. You can eat so much but still somehow not feel overstuffed with the Injera. Bunna Cafe does such a great job with the food as well as the cocktails. Highly would recommend Pushkin cocktail if you are a fan of Espresso Martini or Vietnamese coffee. Totally coming back here for more.

Ate outside - great food! Vegetarian, but filling. Great for those who think they don't like vegetarian. Mosquitos come out around 6:30pm if you're outside. Meals are about 15 bucks. Fills quick, super busy by 8pm.

Great vegan food! Everything is flavorful and the hibiscus iced tea was refreshing. The outdoor area is cute and simple, there are artificial plants and music at a much more reasonable volume than the indoor dining. Service was pretty good! Only one error and it was remedied immediately.

I really enjoyed myself! The server Robel, was awesome! He was attentive, prompt and kindly answered any questions we had. There were 4 of us total and the platter for 3; was way too much for us. We also got appetizers as well; sambusa and fitfit. The honey wine is an acquired taste but yummy and potent all the same. We also tried the coffee, which was earthy and rich. I’d definitely recommend coming here for an awesome and satisfying experience you won’t soon forget.

A beautiful and elegant vegan experience. If this is your first time trying Ethiopian food this is probably one of the best entryways available. The place is run by kind and hard working people that deserve all of the business they receive. Please take your friends and dates here.

Very welcoming environment. Very pleased to see the use of no utensils . Great variety of Ethiopian beer. Price for 2 was $16 and got to sample all 8 dishes. 4 warm and 4 cold. Lots of flavors come out in the food. The bread is a little bit more on the sour side. CASH ONLY . I don’t really carry any cash, so make sure you bring some to avoid the ATM fee. The coffee ceremony looks pretty cool. Bathroom is large , but looks like it hasn’t been renovated in ages . Food was solid. Service was quick.

During our recent lunch outing, we had the pleasure of dining at a restaurant conveniently located near a subway station. This accessibility added to the overall positive experience. For our beverages, we opted for Shai (Tea) and Bunna (Coffee). While these drinks didn't quite match our personal preferences, it's worth noting that they offered a unique and distinct flavor profile compared to the usual tea and coffee options. To kick off our meal, we indulged in Sambusa, a delightful starter featuring a savory filling of lentils encased in delicate phyllo sheets. The accompanying chutney provided an exquisite complement to the dish, elevating its overall taste. We were so impressed with the flavors that we also decided to order some to-go. For the main course, we selected the Lunch option, which included a generous scoop of four items. Our choices included Enguday Tibs, Shiro, Misir Wat, Yater, Keysis, and a seasonal dish. Each dish was thoughtfully accompanied by Injera, the traditional Ethiopian flatbread. The majority of the dishes left a lasting impression due to their delightful flavors and authenticity, with the exception of the seasonal offering. It's worth noting that the portion sizes for the Lunch option were quite ample, ensuring that diners left satisfied. Additionally, the pricing was reasonable, making it an excellent value for the quality and quantity of food provided. In summary, our dining experience at this restaurant was thoroughly enjoyable. We would highly recommend this establishment to others seeking a taste of authentic Ethiopian cuisine and a conveniently located dining spot.

Delicious Ethiopian food with great spice and seasoning! We got feast for 2 and bunna coffee at the end. Portion is generous, each dish tasted fresh, and ambience is cozy. Staff are very kind.. My favorite was mushroom, pumpkin, and the spicy lentil dish in the center. We will be back!

I got the feast for two for my husband and I and it was so much food. We walked away full and healthy. It was our first time having Ethiopian food and we would definitely come back for more. Each scoop tasted distinctly different and well spiced. The vibes were great for a date, intimate. I’d also come back with a small group of friends.

Bunna Cafe lives up to the hype - everything my partner and I tried from their Brunch menu was delicious. I have to give it a rare 5 stars because all of the dishes were amazing and unique (compared to many Ethiopian dishes I've had) and it left the 2 of us extremely full. Well worth the money, especially since we came hungry and didn't even need a full dinner later that day. We ordered the Habesha breakfast (with duba firfir, butecha and kosta) and the Ful as an entree. The side Kita is the true surprise star of the show - super flaky and delicious to eat as an alternative to injera.

Been wanting to try this place for a long time! The ambiance was nice, they have outdoor seating as well. Food was good, I took off one star because I wish it had more flavor / spice. We asked for spicy sauce on the side which made it slightly better. Thanks for the experience BUNNA cafe!

A relatively long day drinking session which started from Vernon Blvd ended at Bunna Cafe.. and one thing that stood out in-spite of all that binge drinking was the amazing and delicious food that we consumed (or inhaled) within 20 minutes of us being served with a delicious platter of Ethiopian delicacies listed on their menu. We washed off all that delicious food with a nice pint of their delicious Ethiopian beer priced at $6. The place is spacious, had a decent enough restroom, and service was absolutely excellent. Will definitely visit again when we feel for some fine Ethiopian food!

This place is a magical treat! Such a lovely surprise! I’ve eaten at Ethiopian restaurants around the world and the States, but this is by far my favourite so far. The owners are extremely lovely, modest, hard-working, and helpful. I enjoyed every minute of our interesting, beautifully presented brunch. Dishes were tasty, healthy, and colourful. The drinks also are so interesting and gorgeous - many containing juices, honey, herbs, and of course ‘the good stuff’. The decor was cosy and wonderful, almost like being part of an interesting stage set. For a few hours I was transported away from NY to a more relaxed, caring, and sensorially interesting place. They also appear to have various types of appetising beers imported from Ethiopia, which I must try next time, & real Ethiopian coffee!

Place is amazing! The staff is super helpful and they have a wonderful of selection sides! I got a wonderful spiced black tea that was a nice compliment to the variety of lentils, roasted mushrooms, carrots, and beets thag I received. I was so happy to discover this Ethiopian corner in Brooklyn. I was living in Addis Ababa la for three years before and it was great to get Ethiopian dishes especially shiro and Injera which were very delicious and light in this restaurant. I liked the vibes and the Ethiopian music playing - it was a nice place to remember Great souvenirs. The service was great - the waiter was very happy seing foreigners speaking Amharic and he was really kind and welcoming. I highly recommend if you want to try Ethiopian food and enjoy the Ethiopian vibes.

Good Sambusa and Kerkede Shai (drink). First time having vegan Ethiopian food. Will say it is a healthy and light meal to eat. However, previously eating Ethiopian meat alternatives does not compete. Best side dish is the Enguday Tibs (mushroom dish only serve for dinner). Kind service, good place to check out and see if it is the kind of food you will like to try and would like to come again. I’m happy that I experience vegan Ethiopian food, but not taking it further to it again.

A nice place for vegetarians with a large menu, I enjoyed the food, however the website was making strange thing when I tried to make an order online...I killed my free time in attempts to finally make it and I reached the goal, but it was a bit annoying. Beautiful day out, decided to go to an Ethiopian Restaurant and Bunna Cafe was at the top of the google listing. Pictures looked great online so we headed there. Parked directly in front of the spot and we were seated immediately at approximately 4:12pm. The server took our order drinks appetizers and food. Having a conversation, a hour flew by and we realized we only received one of our drinks (the kerkede: which was great) and hadn't received our food, yet everyone who had been seated after us was served. We called the waiter over and asked about our order, he said something was wrong in the kitchen. We challenged that because others were being served the exact same entrees that we ordered. He went into the restaurant and brought out our appetizers, and the other drinks. It took almost another hour for us to finally get our platter, by that time we weren't even hungry anymore, we just wanted to leave. The drinks were good and the appetizers also but the service was horrible.

Love this place! It's vegan and flavorful. Every one of their dishes is filled with spices and makes the room smell amazing! Takeout takes a while so I would call and order 15 minutes in advance. They also serve their cocktail drinks in 3 servings combined in one mason jar. They are really strong and delicious.

I had for lunch enguday tibs (crimini mushrooms), misir wot (red lentils), yater kik alicha (yellow split peas), & keysir selata (beets). My favorite was the mushrooms. The beets includes potatoes and carrots that all looked equally beet-red, so I made it a game to be mindful of which I was eating with each bite. I've only had Ethiopian food ~3 times before this, and the last time was many years ago, so I don't remember prior meals well enough to make a fair comparison.
