Awful-Why not just call it a HOSTEL. How they listed the property and what was there/available was not even close! -There was NO Security..there was NO ONE there, even though they stated that there was 24 hour security on premises. -There was NO housekeeping. -Non existent wi-fi -Full bed when Queen size bed was promoted/stated in advertisement. -No air conditioning. -No telephone -No daily room service -No complimentary beverages, filtered water and ice available at all..much less 24/7 in reception area. Not even water. On top of these issues: -The room had a scalding hot pole located in room that ran from floor to ceiling. This is a safety hazard. -There was no way to cover windows so room was fully bright all night long. -There was a loud banging noise all night long. -The bed was broken and like sleeping on plastic milk cartons which caused us both to slide to center of bed. -There was a disgusting curly hair on the bedsheets. -No air conditioning in the room..just a thermostat that did nothing. They just want your money by just saying everything is non-refundable, even if is NOTHING like advertised. We will never stay there again and would discourage anyone from doing so as well.

My flight got canceled at the very last minute, and the airline's handling of the situation left much to be desired. They refused to provide any accommodation and instead gave us a brochure with supposedly discounted hotels in the city. Faced with the uncertainty of 200+ people trying to secure a place, I quickly glanced at the brochure and decided on the "Chelsea Inn" due to its 3-star rating on the website. However, as I was en route to the hotel, I read the fine print and discovered two significant concerns: 1) The hotel had shared bathrooms, and 2) There was no reception. The latter worried me since I didn't have a US phone and hadn't received any confirmation from the hotel. Thankfully, upon arrival, I found someone at the front desk. Although the room itself was clean, I couldn't help but feel disappointed considering the price I paid. Private bathrooms should have been included at that rate. Additionally, having to carry my suitcase up five flights of stairs was quite inconvenient. The hotel's lack of luggage storage was another major drawback, especially for travelers with late flights. Furthermore, they charged an extra $35 for housekeeping, which thankfully I didn't require during my one-night stay. In conclusion, this hotel might be suitable for those who plan well in advance and receive check-in instructions on time. However, it should never be advertised as an option for last-minute bookings, especially for international guests who might urgently need a room. I can't imagine the trouble I would have faced if there hadn't been anyone at the reception upon my arrival.

What customer service? They asked for my debit card and ID before 3:00 pm and after getting that info (traveling with no Wifi so this was a hassle) I find out they want $120.00 (!) for taxes for a $150.00 hotel room. Ridiculous! When I question the charges I am told there is a cleaning fee. What? They have “contactless check-in” but all that means is if there is an issue there is no one to help (and they don’t have to pay someone to stay at the front desk). So I am 30 minutes outside of New York when the owner/manger, Sam, simply cancels my booking. I would NEVER stay here or recommend the place if that is there idea of “customer service.” It’s price gouging and unethical and simply unkind.

I stayed at the Chelsea Inn for 3 nights during a business trip in September 2023 and would not recommend it for the following reasons: - No cancellation possible, even 3 months prior to arrival - No private bathroom (the reservation actually included one) - Room with no windows - Misleading website and pictures; look and feel of the interior were way less 'modern' and 'glamorous' - No space in the room to dry items like towels - No space to perform any type of work (e.g. no desk or chair) - Low sleep quality due to noisy AC and fridge. - Closet had 3.5 hangers - No room keys, doors locked with different codes - 35 dollars cleaning fee There is more to say about the 'unconventional' check-in process via email and the friendliness of the staff which have room for improvement. On the upside, the location was great. If you don't mind the above, you are in the heart of the Chelsea district.

One star is too many... If I could give this place a zero... I would. The only remotely positive thing that I can say is that it is in the heart of Chelsea and that it is generally somewhat clean rooms in appearance. But be aware of the many shortcomings! This is an all "digital" hotel, which is 21st century way of saying that if you step out of your room in the middle of the night to take a leak because you're sharing a bathroom, and then discover that the door entry code to your all digital lock to your room doesn't work, then you'll find yourself up the proverbial creek without anything remotely resembling a paddle, as there are no human attendants in the joint until 9 am! There's no elevator, and thus if you're on the fifth floor and have luggage -- good luck with that! The stairs are old and narrow and dangerous! Also, if your room faces the street, then be prepared to only sleep until 3am or so, as it seems that an army of garbage trucks descent upon the streets and are constantly picking up dumpsters and testing noisy air brakes for hours... even on weekends! No idea how so much garbage can be produced that it demands daily pickup! Furthermore, there's what appears to be an "underground" club next to the hotel, which results in loads of loud drunks out on Friday and in Saturday nights. The rooms are tiny, super tiny, but generally somewhat clean in appearance (I did find a gross stain on the mattress (see photo), although the hotel itself could use a serious touch up, as there are serious signs of disrepair on the way to the rooms. There's a $35 extra charge if you need room service. The clientele appears to be mostly European, and I witnessed at least two instances where the electronic digital locks were frustrating tired arriving travelers - in one case a poor couple with a small kid were struggling on the phone to get assistance with a non-cooperating digital lock. The help phone line does not answer unless you keep calling over and over... During the day there's no visible attendant, but if you bang on the door to the lobby, someone answers from inside and usually conducts all conversations from behind a closed door. If you stay here, demand a room away from the street... and never, ever leave your room without your cell phone! I will not be returning.

I was hesitant to stay here because of the mixed reviews but my boyfriend and I stayed here for a night and loved it! The room was the perfect size, everything was clean, and it was quiet. We also loved that to enter the hotel and your room, you need a special code. Our stay would have been a little better if they provided washcloths in the bathroom. Also, I don't think our AC shut off at all so bring a sweatshirt just in case you get cold when sleeping. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay here at this cute boutique hotel and we will be returning. If you are looking to get a hotel room in NYC and not spend a fortune, this is the right place!

This is not a hotel - it is a hostel. Worst yet, it's a dump. The room was small and did not smell fresh. Maintenance is lacking. The carpet on the staircase has probably been cleaned last decade, if ever. The bathroom had hair in the sink and shower.

This place is sooo charming in the charming area of Chelsea, was provided with a nice warm welcome and cookies! The stay was very seamless and we had no issues! Free breakfast! Cannot go wrong, will be looking forward to coming back! You definitely felt like you were apart of a community here! Everyone is so warm and friendly.

Stayed here for 2 nights in September 2022. I booked a room with a private bathroom and found the room and bathroom to be quite nice, clean, and comfortable. I had 0 issues with the temperature of the room or the cleanliness of the place. The bed was pretty comfortable as well. The wifi worked fine and I was surprised to find a nice sized TV hung on the wall. This hotel is super convenient to everything around Chelsea and was just a few minute walk to many other locations in the city. There's even a subway stop on the same block, which made it super easy to get around. Honestly, for the price, you cannot beat this hotel. I will definitely book again for my next solo stays in NYC. Only docked it a star because communication with the hotel wasn't great (didn't get the arrival information in advance and spent my entire flight worrying about trying to contact the hotel once I landed) but once I got the check-in information I had 0 issues.

Rooms extremely small. They claimed the rooms were meant for 4 people when the second bed was a couch that could barely fit 1 person. The main bed was old or in a bad shape and you would easily roll into the middle. The staff in the reception was very rude. The wifi did not work well. There was no elevator and at night you could hear the music of the pub next door until 2am like if it was in the room next to you. The only positive things of this hotel are the location and the cleaning.

The customer service - great! The front desk staff, I believe her name to be Marium, was so kind. However, I bought this on a whim because it was close to my office, so I figured it'd be solid. That being said, the place is less than ideal. I had an extremely small space, and had to share a restroom. I didn't even know that was a thing? But then again, I don't like in New York. If you never plan to be in your room and want something on the cheaper side, this place is for you.

This hotel is in a great location! For spending ten days doing a workshop it suited my needs and price. I wasn’t surprised by the small room or stairs and I am glad I picked a private bathroom. There are a few opportunities here tho: better Wi-Fi please! It was slow and would lag. My laptop wouldn’t log on, then I tried my tablet and no luck. I was only able to use my phone, and had to download shows at other locations to be able to watching without lag in my room. Please invest in some sound proofing! The noise was so so so bad from guests coming in and out of the main entrance and just moving about. Please add a little night light to the night stand. Everyone I encountered was pleasant and the one time I met the front desk person she was very helpful and kind. Overall, I would consider this location again depending on my trip.

It was strange for almost $550.00 for the weekend you got a hostel dressed up as a hotel and you better read the fine print because what your paying for is a 10x10 room with a shared bathroom. It was very uneasy during covid to share a space with people you know nothing about, not to mention who ever was there was enjoying their cigarettes in the bathroom itself which seeped over into the bedroom. We ended up finding a better hotel! For cheaper! A few street over in Chelsea! Cleaner With a bathroom in the room!. When contacted about the situation and to get even a partial refund! the staff in a weirdly sadistic way told us they are not going to refund us and to read the print and referenced there booking.com ad almost like they were trained to! as if they knew it was going to be a problem sharing space with strangers during covid it was very off putting. Oh and the air unit in our room was leaking down the wall which gave a very spooky Halloween look. This place is a pass over keep looking.

The few dollars in savings compared to regular hotels isn't worth it. Not having staff/service (for cleaning , questions, or storing luggage) was challenging. The picture is of the staircase (not cleaned or well maintained) and be prepared to carry your luggage without an elevator. It's outside the nice part of Chelsea, so I didn't feel safe at night

Good location and access if you are looking for a cheap stay in NYC. The subway is easy to access from the hotel or alternatively 20 minute walk to Times Square and 40 minutes to Central Park. The booking system for the hotel is ok but quite difficult to navigate. We had to spend 15 minutes outside the front door as we didn’t have an access code. Can’t give any more than 2 stars for service as there wasn’t any sight of any staff during our 6 night stay. Room was good size with a clean bathroom. We did find it noisy on a night with people shouting outside and general traffic ect but don’t believe this is a fault of the hotel.

Great location and value for right in the middle of Manhattan. Small rooms, but quite clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The location is ideally central to all points of interest both uptown and downtown. The only real gripe I can make is we had a 4th floor walk-up to our room, but it’s New York, baby. Roll with it. On the plus side, my legs and butt look fantastic.

3 Stars is probably pushing it. The Heating/Cooling unit in the room did not work. I get that the AC might not work if it thinks the room is cool enough (it wasn't) but the fan itself wouldn't even work. Luckily we could open the window. We got placed on the 5th floor so we didn't have any noise issues. The other big problem is the mattress needs replaced bad. It had a huge dip in the middle so my girlfriend and I were just forced together all night. Honestly, if the bed was nicer/newer and our unit had a fan I would consider a 5 stars for what it is. You get what you pay for. The location is fairly decent as well. Not too far from the subway and plenty of neat food places nearby.

Nice little place to stay a few nights. Wouldn't recommend the share bathroom option because they barely clean it during our stay, it was really bad. It depends on your floor fellows. Location is perfect, next to so many places for walking distance! And the area is safe and clean. Communication with the management is quick and fluidly. But there was no one on the building. Room was super small, ideal for solo travelers and for few nights. We booked 9 nights and we could barely fit.

If I were younger and less nervous about being in a strange place I'd rate higher. This was plan B after an Airbnb fell through. No elevator, the front steps are a local hangout (all nice folks, but still), and the doors are flimsy and about 2inches up from the floor. It made me feel uneasy because people could look in if they want to. Otherwise plain but very clean and good bathroom. Good AC. Easy walking access to lots of shops, restaurants, and sights.

Clean and comfortable, but there is no window in the room. I didn’t see anywhere online that some rooms have no windows. We got the shared bathroom suite but I don’t think anyone was in the other room. The shared bathroom rooms each have their own key pad locks and then a different key pad for the door leading into the shared area from the hallway. They’re all deadbolts that lock automatically, so it seems reasonably safe. The room is small with high ceilings, a fan and ac, mini fridge and microwave. Overall, not unpleasant, but it is incredibly overpriced for not having a window. If you’re staying here for more than a night or two or will be spending any time in the room, paying a bit more for a window is worth it.

First of all, we rang the buzzer for 10 minutes and called the phone number twice and no one came to help us. We were stuck waiting outside after a 5 hour drive for a considerable time. I’m a very deep sleeper and the noises from the plumbing were so loud and grating they kept us up and woke us up all night. Nothing could drown it out. When the extremely loud noises from the plumbing stopped we were later woken up because a pipe in our room overheated to the point it was causing the wooden floor to dip up and down causing loud noises. I burned my hand inspecting this noise. Garbage all throughout the hall and we saw only one staff member through our stay.

It has a bed but there is no heat, the floors are vacuumed but sticky with ground in dirt (they could have mopped), and it's midnight while a party is in full swing at what sounds like a club next door. I can hear words to the music and the high screech of women's laughter. Sheets are cheap and paper thin. But worst of all? There's nobody to complain to but a number that doesn't pick up and an email address. NO front desk service. This isn't a hotel or an inn. It's a glorified Air BnB is what. Hard hard pass. Spend your money elsewhere!!!

Checked in. It's more of a hostel than a hotel. The facilities are greatly lacking, the room is tiny and ratty, the front desk person is very unhelpful and only tells us that any changes must go through booking.com and he can't help us with anything. Also, front desk guy (he really just sits in a room behind the unattended front desk) defers to the owner who isn't here and says that, "You'll have to pay full price because you're past the 48 hour cancellation." I'd give the place a net negative star rating, but it isn't offered, so giving it a one star. Moving to another hotel that is about the same price and much better and just eating the cancellation fees. Don't book here. Learn from my mistake.

Hello, my name is Ana Lucia and I would like to ask some questions. 1. Does the hotel have luggage storage? I would stay for 4 days. On the fourth day, I would travel to Boston, to stay away for 3 days, but the bags would remain at the hotel. It would be possible? What fee must be paid in those 3 days that the bags are stored and I am away? 2. Does the hotel receive parcels by mail on our behalf? I was going to make a purchase on Amazon and have it delivered to the hotel a few days before I arrive. Thanks!

Great location. Walking distance to nice nearby districts and quite safe at night too. But… this is a hostel. No elevator so bag carrying, bathroom cleaned every second or third day for a shared one this is bad. Very small room, window was not closed and 2 days after I have seen hands from outside like trying to open, gladly I closed it… no one from the staff ever available and WiFi is a joke.

This is a great choice for a budget accommodation in a great location. It is a simple accomodation, no frills or fuss, but very clean and well cared for. Great for the single budget conscious traveler! I would certainly recommend this property and would stay here again.

This is a wonderful boutique hotel that is reasonably priced. The place is completely touchless yet the desk staff are available at all times and very helpful (by phone). Check-in is done by phone and you have codes for the front door and your room. I would highly recommend for both business and personal travel!

First of all it is in a great central location which is safe. The value was amazing. Here are the things that could easily be improved on…. We were in room 104 that has its own bathroom. My issue was with the layout of the room. I’m mostly writing this in the hopes that management reads this. If they were to change just a few things they could get way more money. …so they have the full length mirror hung in the hallway which is only big enough for one person to be in. It is also the only place to do makeup if someone was in the bathroom. The small bottle neck hallway is between the bedroom and the bathroom so everyone must pass that area. There is a nice desk area that has NO mirror. All they have to do is move the full length mirror and put it on top of the desk. Also they should swap the tv to the opposite wall and the futon (which is on the same side as the bottle neck hallway). The pillows were really really bad. They need to change pillows. Also, the mattress was horrible. My husband and I were smashed next to each other because it was so saggy. We had our 12 year old with us who slept on the futon. Totally doable in the space if it were laid out properly. Another Extra would be a makeup mirror. There was some kind of courtyard out our back window but the noise didn’t bother us as we are in the city. And around 3-5 don’t know the exact time someone was constantly using an ice machine. Didn’t bother us though. Oh and there is NO staff which was fine except that we had nowhere to put our bags. We would have gladly paid $15 bucks a bag to not have to figure out where to store them. Seems like that money wouid be worth having at least one employee on hand. The keyless entry to the building and the room was awesome. Torn if I wouid stay here again.

This hotel was awesome. My organization held two events here and the experience was one of the best I've ever had working with a hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and always there to help. Not once did I have to go looking for someone to help me. The rooms were great. Clean and modern. I would say the only downside if they don't have room services for lunch and dinner. I will definitely stay here again.

  • 4/5 Zayne R. 11 months ago on Google
Surprisingly nice for the price and can't beat the location. My partner and I stayed here for my birthday and honestly my only complaints were the lack of an elevator (I knew this ahead of time though) and the climate of the room. There's radiator heat piped through the building and a hot pipe in the room raises the temp significantly when it's running. This wouldn't be a problem in the dead of winter or when it's off in the summer. We just happened to be there at that weird time of year. They do provide an overhead AC/heat unit, but like the ones in our past apartment buildings, it was finicky at times. There is a ceiling fan and bathroom vent that can help make a difference though. Just expect to sleep in light clothing if you visit during that odd time of year where it's 35-45°F nights & 45-55°F days. Anyway, to reiterate, otherwise a great experience; room was cozy and felt luxurious. We had a private bath, mini fridge, microwave, and tv available to use.

The hotel had a nice location, good-looking rooms and great service. You do have to throw your own trash away and clean your own room but I prefer it that way. You can request a room cleaning though. I also don't know if this is a new york thing but I was not prepared for the amount of stairs I had to climb to get to my room. Would book again.

I always give good advice... I am shocked I make my reservation, following a personal problem less than 24 hours later I have to cancel my reservation I ask for a gesture and I am told that it cannot be canceled unless 48 hours of reservation and more than a month from the date I did not fault them far from it... Inadmissible !!!! We take advantage of tourists and easy money with much too easy non-refundable cancellations.... no conciliation, it is deplorable and without professionalism. very bad for this hotel...

The soap dispensers are cool and I liked the smell of the soap. The cleanliness wasn't perfect, but I'm generally happy as long as the sheets are fresh and clean. I walked up 3 flights of stairs to get to my room, so pack light. Also, some lady was screaming Spanish for about half an hour in the hallway at 1am or so, but it was Friday night, so I guess it's not a big deal.

Had a fantastic stay at the Chelsea Inn Hotel. Clean room, fairly comfy bed (super comfortable after walking 8 miles in a day), easy to get in and out, easy check in, great neighborhood with lots of great shopping and restaurants around. Save your money people. It may be a cheap hotel but it’s NOT worth it. The AC must be broken because it was about 90 degrees in my room when we got in. The AC doesn’t work at all and just blows around hot air. This has been the worst stay at a hotel in my life. I booked two nights but I’m not putting myself through another night, leaving early. There’s only one window that about a foot wide & it’s tucked behind a shelving unit so there’s no air flow either. I actually hate this hotel & I don’t recommend
