While this hotel is close to a lot, the area is somewhat sketchy. From the snappy front desk staff to the extremely worn out room, there is definitely better hotels to choose from in the area. The photos online give this hotel a more upscale appearance, but it is very different in person. They have three elevators for a LOT of rooms, be prepared to wait. They have a small free reception at night with super cheap barefoot branded wine and a small cheese plate, I passed. Left too early for breakfast so I can’t tell you how it was. The efficiency rating on the outside of the building placard by the city was even rated a D and this brand is suppose to be all about being green. The Element brand is a great chain in the Marriott collection of hotels, this specific location does not match that. Definitely wouldn’t return.

Budget-feeling Marriott property near Times Square and Port Authority. Felt like a 2 star hotel. Bed was comfortable enough, room was larger than that found in many other NYC hotels. Elevator situation was not great; three very small elevators, and with 40 floors, I heard many people had long waits during peak hours (fortunately I was on the second floor so took the stairs). The room had a nice kitchenette. Bathroom wasn’t so clean - shower had lots of dark stains on the bottom. They sold some snacks and drinks in the lobby, but had no water bottles - at 1am was told to walk to a nearby 7/11, which I did but was a mild inconvenience. The bathroom flush button was broken. Housekeeping service is every other day. Had a fine stay but probably wouldn’t recommend.

Had a fantastic stay here. Right in Midtown, one block from the subway (very useful), delicious free breakfast buffet (scrambled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns/french toast, fresh fruits, oatmeal, yogurt) free wine, beer and snacks, comfy beds, cozy room, great staff, safe and clean. Seriously an amazing hotel. People are quick to be critical without noting the price they're paying. Even so, I've stayed at a Ritz-Carlton and it really was no better than this. I will note that my safe and phone didn't work and the shower lever was slightly loose. Safe got fixed quickly though which is the most important, but the other two weren't. Still, amazing hotel. Thank you so much and see you again soon!

Only 1 block from the Port Authority. Only 3 blocks from Time Square. Everything you need within walking distance. Elevators can be a little chaotic but that's to be expected per the other reviews. Stayed 7 days, 1/3 elevators didn't work the entire time. The other 2 worked sometimes and sometimes they didn't. Breakfast was a nice perk. Staff was decent (some nice, some not). The homeless roam outside but their not aggressive. Security 24/7 always in the lobby and you need a key card to enter from the street. Prices are fair in comparisons to the other hotels in the area (some on the same street) (here you get free breakfast and an en suite kitchen). Would definitely stay again.

For those who follow me, you know I provide solid reviews. Overall, the hotel serves its purpose. The room (#511) was spacious and even had a mini kitchen, which for longer stays would be great. The hotel is in need of a makeover and the rooms could use an upgrade. My room wasn’t dirty, but looks like it was a rush job on the cleaning front. Gets a A for location but otherwise just an avg hotel

I used to stay at this hotel every time I went to NYC before the pandemic, and I loved it. But unfortunately it went down the hill pretty quick, it’s a crazy how bad it is now. First I checked in, got to the room they gave me, and the door was broken (as if someone broke in) and the door would shut / lock. So I went down to the front desk and got another room, this time, as you shut the door it would automatically lock. But you couldn’t lock the door from the inside , the security lock from inside was broken. The room looked pretty run down like the first one, old paint peeling, cables showing , run down floors, minimalistic old furniture and the telephone didn’t work. So when I realized my toilet was broken, I couldn’t just call the front desk , I had to take the elevator down and wait in a long line to let them know my toilet was broken… so I had to use the toilet in the hotel basement (it was pretty dirty), then finally hours later someone came up to fix my toilet. The only good thing is that they offer a nice free breakfast. But overall it’s not worth the price, you can find much better hotels for the same price or even cheaper.

This could have been a five, but the elevators weren't working properly and since I was staying with a handicapped roommate it really hurt the experience. The staff tried to work around this but the hotel was full and the waits were terrible. Many folks used the stairs, but that wasn't an option for us. The staff were all helpful and friendly but Vince was exceptional! He was very understanding of our difficulties with mobility and was extremely kind and helpful without "overdoing" it. The room was good, clean and quiet. The beds comfortable. The food provided at breakfast was good and plentiful. The location was good, particularly for the price. Overall it was a good experience that could have been excellent.

Very well located. Nice views if you’re on the top floors (it’s about 40 floors). There’s not enough hot water most of the time and they couldn’t figure out why (other rooms too) and the pressure is low. Lifts have queues mornings and evenings and it can easily take 10 minutes to use them. Maybe consider fast lifts or smart ones that don’t just stop on each button call? Otherwise very good size room compared to the area has to offer, with a fridge and sink in a mini kitchen. Staff are very helpful. They mainly need to get the engineering portion right and it’ll be great.

First, let's start with the good: the staff were very courteous. When I called the front desk for more towels it was handed quickly. So, no complaints there. Now the bad: it looks like the entire building has seen better days. Plenty of paint peel/chipping, poorly maintained. Bathroom had NOT been cleaned properly and had what looked like dead bedbugs clinging to the shower wall. The elevators are dingy and the control panels had so many screws missing one was practically hanging from 3-4 of them which means at least 4 were missing. Both a safety and maintenance hazard. Frequent disruptions in service had visitors packed in working ones. For someone with a disability this is a legitimate problem. I've been to other Element hotels much more opulent and well-maintained, which begs the question why I paid almost $400 for a room which was little different from your average Best Western in Ohio. It feels like the brand would be damaged by this, but I suppose some people are okay with this. I'm not. Will not use again. There's only so much you can excuse with saying it's NYC and the costs. Really disappointed.

We loved our stay. It was central walking distance to Times Square highlights, they offered nightly happy hour with beer, wine and snacks, a decent breakfast with a variety of hot and cold items and our room had a full sized fridge, bathroom and adequate space for the two of us. One downside was the elevator which almost always had a wait so we were thankful to be on a lower level floor to have the stairs as an option. Staff were beyond friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay again.

I was pleasantly pleased with my stay at Element. The staff were a little distracted but exceedingly pleasant. The efficient room was updated though there were parts where the age of the building showed through. Still, my room was comfortable and spacious and it included again a surprisingly tasty breakfast (the spinach and Swiss quiche was amazing). The area used to be sketchy but it has been improved from just a few years ago. For business or pleasure, I’ll be back!

Amazing location. Pizza and convenience store across the street! The refrigerator, stove, microwave, and DISHWASHER allowed us to save some money on food as well. The free breakfast is great as well! I have zero complaints about this hotel. Our stay was just great. Good sound insulation on windows (that open). Black out curtains. Friendly staff. Free baggage checking before and after stay. You name it! Good job element

***Highly Recommend This Hotel*** Element Hotel absolutely surprised me and exceeded every one of my expectations. The staff working the front desk when I checked in went above and beyond and were extremely friendly, courteous, and professional. The room was better than I could have expected. Very clean and modern. Had a kitchenette that is basically a full kitchen. Brand new full size refrigerator w/ freezer, brand new microwave, dishwasher and 2 burner cook top. Included a toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, plates, dishes, cutlery, dish towels, soap, laundry detergent and anything else you would need to make a wide variety of meals. The bathroom was awesome, again was clean and modern. It was extremely spacious, shower was beautiful with a shower head and a separate shower wand that could be together or separately. I cannot say enough GOOD THINGS about Element Hotel NY Times Square. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU SEE FOR YOURSELF. I doubt you will be anything besides extremely happy. Every single aspect of my stay was a pleasant experience.

This place is an actual crack house… you will have to step around active drug deals and fight off tweakers to even get to the lobby. The people who worked the front desk were sweet, but I will never stay again. Given the dangerous surroundings (some to be expected, it’s Times Square), there was no security. The door in my room didn’t have a working lock! The elevators weren’t even room-key protected! Cheap, but.. pretty yuck.

Yes, the elevator here is the worst... but the private roofdeck is a nice touch. I recommend getting a low floor, just to get in and out easier using the stairs. The staff here is always nice, and quite honestly that can be hard with the number of people that come here. Can't beat the location... so close to Penn coming in and out of town, but in the middle of everything. Definitely my favorite place to book.

One of the worst hotel stays I've experienced. I expected much better for $400+ per night! - Like others have mentioned, the elevator experience is HORRIBLE. It only fits 4 people comfortably, but there are always 8-9 people squeezing in because there are so few elevators for so many floors (40). People are on top of each other, bags on people's feet, etc. - Someone in the hotel set the room alarm for 6 am before we arrived, so the alarm unexpectedly woke us on our first morning after arrival. - Both toasters were broken in the breakfast area, and there was no place to sit for breakfast. We tried different times, but even the lobby area was full because they didn't open the rest of the seating for breakfast. - Small thing, but there is no shelf in the shower to put any of your toiletries on. - The bathroom light continuously turned off and on even with no movement in the room. After my stay, I was not sent a link to review the hotel on their website, so I contacted Marriott. The hotel sent an "oops, sorry" type email back to Marriott, but it never made it to me. I had to follow up with Marriott a week later to find out that the case was closed with no resolution. There are much better hotels out there around the same price; don't waste your money here.

We stayed for 6 nights in the Hotel. The room was quite big instead of other Hotels in New York. Breakfast was good with a lot of options and fresh fruits every day, the coffee was also great. The Breakfast-Room is very small. At certain times you can get a Problem to get a table. The Hotel is located close to Time Square and other Sightseeing attractions. The employees were friendly and helpful. Instead of other Hotels the price including breakfast was o.k. We can recommended the Hotel for a City Trip to NY.

Spent a weekend here and it was wonderful. The location of the hotel is great, the room we occupied was clean, modern and the views were outstanding! Staff was friendly and courteous - thank you Nina for a fast check in. We did not experience any issues with the elevators, in fact all were functional, there was no wait and they were very fast going up or down. Breakfast was adequate and the staff were constantly replenishing items and cleaning up. We recommend this hotel and we'll be back when in NYC!

I am reaching out after several failed attempts at reaching someone at this hotel who could help me. I originally booked my stay with this hotel, specifically because of the pet policy as I intended to travel with 2 dogs. The booking website specifies "Pets allowed. Non-refundable fee of $50 for each pet per stay." On Monday 05/09/2022, more than 72 hours before my stay, I called to confirm this pet policy. At this time only, I became aware that the policy documented on the booking website was misleading and incorrect. Although the statements “Pets allowed” and “each pet” imply otherwise, I was informed that in fact a maximum of 1 pet is allowed. I first asked if there were any alternative options, such as transferring my reservation to another Marriott property that could accommodate me, but was told by the Marriott representative that my only option was to cancel my reservation. Given no other choice, I accepted this circumstance and agreed to cancel (cancellation #53678224) upon learning this new information. Given the circumstances, I did not expect to be charged for the full amount of this stay which never occurred. And despite being a long-time Marriott customer for both personal and business travel, I have been unable to even speak to anyone to discuss flexibility regarding the refund policy, which is a reasonable request considering the timing and the error on the website. I am hopeful that someone at Marriott can quickly correct the poor experience I have received so far.

The room itself was like a small studio apartment, it had a nice setup. The wait on the elevators was absolutely terrible, you'd be waiting and it would pass your floor over and over again! Kind of humorous actually, unless you are in a rush! Great location, the bar underneath the hotel had really good food and drinks. I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Prepare for a long review. The room was nice - large - clean and the hotel is in a good prime position near times square. Although now knowing New York we would stay a bit further out as we can get the tube anywhere at any time really. The service was appalling. Our room wasn't ready at 3 as stated we only got into our room at 4:45 ish, even then, they gave us a key to an unclean room that was still being attended to by the cleaners. We then got a key to another room, which was clean however, the TV in the living room didn't work, and we had barely warm water in the shower. After complaining we asked if someone could be sent to the room to check the TV and shower out. No one came. We asked again the next day and then finally they came, made the shower a little hotter (still not as hot as you would wish a shower could get to) and fixed the TV. After putting a request from the app which mentioned us as elite guests we had the manager slamming on our door just before 7am (waking us up)! To offer us the key to another room to shower. I would not stay here again - do yourself a favour. Additionally, the elevators were constantly busy. Seems they didn't have enough, people were always waiting!

I really enjoyed my stay here! The room was clean, kitchen prepped, complimentary breakfast had a decent amount to pick from (coffee was also pretty good) and the location was great! We had some troubles with our tv not connecting to the remote or lagging and our room seemed to be missing a light because we had a very dark corner in our “living room” and the elevators took FOREVER (definitely plan for that if you are scheduling out plans). All small things that were able to be overlooked by the positives.

We stayed for 5 days and had a great experience. Rooms are a good size for NYC, kitchen was equipped with all that we needed and the room was very clean and comfortable. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Breakfast had options fitting for the stay. Centrally located to Time Square, Broadway etc… Definitely a great hotel option we will stay again.

The hotel has a great location, close to the iconic tourist points (bus terminal and subway), the rooms are decent but the customer service really impressed us. Oliver was fantastic with us. Gave us a nice room (with no extra charge), specific tips to do with my kids and a very nice explanation of the attractions. Oliver just made our stay to start with the right foot! Thanks Oliver!!

Fantastic room equipped with a functional kitchen perfect for cooking. A full-size refrigerator, microwave and a dishwasher, plus plates and utensils provided already. Hotel breakfast was complementary which to my surprise was actually good. Highly recommend for families or those who would like to cook a dinner or two during the stay.

Really beautiful place where stay during New York trip. Great rooms especially for the little kitchen and large beds. I have been here last August, the rooftop was simply stunning right in the middle of Garment District. I recommend this accommodation to all!

If you are reading this and it's your first trip to New York, I encourage you to understand something upfront...if you are not willing to spend $900+ per night, you will not get a large suite. Everything in the tourist area is small and expensive. Having said that, Element is all about the location and convenience! We stayed for 5 days, had a city view, and loved everything about the hotel. The breakfast is standard hotel food but free! You will read a lot of reviews complaining about the elevators. I will give you a hint...in NYC and it's busy! With a 40 floor hotel, it will be slower. The trick is to ask for higher floors as the elevator will be emptier, or if you are on a low floor and can't use stairs, go up first then down. Yes, there are also homeless and some using drugs in front of the hotel. It's NYC, and the behavior is everywhere. My wife and I always felt safe, even when just the two of us were walking back from the Giants game at 2 AM. No body bothers you. Now, stop reading reviews and book the room! You will not regret it! Enjoy your trip!!

My daughter and I stayed at The Element Times Square for our yearly NYC visit. I got an amazing price mid-week for a King room. EVERYTHING about our stay was perfect! The front desk staff were so kind and professional--they even found my glasses that I left on the counter during check in! Without them I would have had a terrible view of the play we caught on Broadway. The room was immaculate and was stocked with absolutely everything one needs: kitchenette with microwave, stovetop, fridge, cooking and eating utensils/pots/plates; the bathroom is well stocked with toiletries, soft towels, a huge shower, and modern sink/toilet/mirror/lighting; and the recycling bins were very helpful. We could not hear a thing from the streets below or from our neighbors and we had the best sleep ever after a long day of walking Times Square, followed by a late show and dinner. I had stayed at the Element when it first opened years ago and it literally looks exactly the same: modern, clean. Just excellent. Thank you for a spectacular stay, Element Times Square! We WILL be back!

This hotel is quite mediocre for the price. It was over $400 per night. It did have an okay location that was about 25 minutes walk from the javits center and 15 minutes from times square. The lobby was busy and dirty and they only had 1 staff member checking people in. The other staff were just sitting around. The elevator is very old and slow. The hallways were quite dirty and musty. The rooms had been updated recently and we're quite nice with some premium bedding that was comfortable to sleep in. The breakfast in the morning was quite typical for a hot breakfast but was good overall. I had an overall good experience but I do hope they clean up the lobby and hallways.

Trashy hotel, these idiots can’t even manage to keep their guests happy. The sinks in the rooms don’t work properly and are coming out of it, the shower is cold, breakfast is so small. We had to ask many many many times for room service and they finally did it.We are staying here and at 9 at night when the floor was sleeping the fire alarm went off and when everybody ran down nobody knew and when people did find out they turned up the lobby music so they can keep checking in people. They only have one guy that they use for when everything goes on. Honestly this is such a trash hotel and it’s placed in a dark street with a lot of homless. Don’t stay here.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Element. We arrived early 2:30pm. Our room was not ready until just after 3pm (after the posted check in time), but we sat comfortably in the lobby and waited. I read other reviewers state the wait for the elevators has been a major concern - the most we waited, even during NYC Marathon weekend(!) was 5 minutes. Our room was very clean, no odours, and the most spacious we have stayed in while visiting NYC. The bathroom was also very clean and spacious. The heater/air conditioner worked very well and was not too loud. The breakfast was excellent (lots of choice and very good quality) though it was very busy (lots of runners!) so we did need to wait for a table but only on one morning-out of four. As another reviewer mentioned, our alarm clock was also set to go off at 6am our first morning. Our friend stated the clock in their room also went off at this same time. Cruel joke? The phone in our room didn't work but a maintenance worker was promptly sent to our room to resolve the issue. Yes, there are a few people sitting on the street just outside the hotel each day, but this caused no problems for us and we never felt unsafe. Great location close to Port Authority, subway, Times Square. I would definitely stay here again.

Spent 5 nights in Element, and we enjoyed our stay. Check-in was easy, and the staff got through the line quickly but gave us all the information we needed on our stay. Every staff member we met was extremely helpful and kind. The room itself was clean, and had a kitchen area which was fantastic. It really gives you extra flexibility that not many hotel rooms do. The breakfast was good with plenty of options, but would recommend going at off-peak times as it can get busy. Same with the elevator, take the stairs if you can as the building is so big you could be waiting a while. Neighborhood itself is very sketchy, but nobody bothered us so it wasn't a real issue. Especially with the location in walking distance to everything that you need (attractions/subways/shops etc.)

From the minute we checked in, we were greeted so pleasantly and professionally. Our room was ready earlier than check in which was a plus. Room was clean, bed and pillows comfy, plenty of hot water and towels. No problem with the elevators at all. Breakfast was good. Plenty of options. Great location. Will definitely stay here again 👍👍

  • 1/5 Ryan G. 1 year ago on Google
The 15 min wait to check in every time I have stayed here is always disappointing, then to get to the desk and be greeted with an attitude definitely leaves a bad taste. No recognition for my Titanium status and put in a dirty room on the third floor. Had to change rooms and after running errands come back to the new room and notice the AC is broken, my shower didn’t work at all and the phone didn’t work to call and let them know. The third elevator is also locked off after a certain hour so there are two elevators serving 35+ floors, so expect a wait to get to and from your room. I overheard many other guests asking for maintenance to come to their room for one reason or another. I would highly recommend spending the extra few dollars and staying anywhere else as this is a 2 star hotel at best.

  • 3/5 Christian F. 1 year ago on Google
A renovation or modernization, would be appropriate. The choice at breakfast is not really big. The variety is very small. Upon arrival, there was no information about the hotel, such as breakfast times, where breakfast is served, etc. A little more motivation of the person at the reception, would do the hotel good. The location of the hotel is optimal. Even though it has many homeless people in the area. The hotel is not more than a 3 star hotel. Although on the one platforms it says it is a 4 star hotel.

  • 4/5 Adam C. 2 years ago on Google
Friendly staff, pretty cool that they have a complimentary happy hour in the lobby (beer, wine, meat & cheese). My room was nice and everything was comfortable. Shower handle was broken and water temp was very temperamental but wasn't a big deal. Only downfall is that you can wait a while for the elevator, there are 3 of them, but there are 40 floors. I've stayed here before and I'll probably stay here again. A few minutes walk from the main subway hub in Times Square. Marriot App says there is valet parking, there is not, so plan accordingly.

  • 2/5 Jacque R. 2 years ago on Google
Really awful hotel. We got there at 7pm and were told to wait 45 minutes for a room (and they were weirdly rude about it). The elevators were so packed at 9:30am it took 20 minutes to get one that wasn’t too full. Shower in the room was cold. Breakfast was not good and no vegan options, which isn’t expected but just added to our distaste of the place. The room was pretty nice. It’s Times Square so I guess you’re paying for location, but if I’d stayed anywhere else this would’ve been a fifth of the price for what they were offering.

  • 4/5 Joane T. 2 years ago on Google
They have connecting rooms! Also, a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator and freezer. Coffee maker is not great. Reception was very friendly, and efficient. There is a parking garage across the street (330 w39th) that is about $50 /day. It a good location but can be noisy on the weekend. Cleaning is fine for the bed and shower, but the floors and the side tables and surfaces looked like they were not recently cleaned. Also I think maintenance has a hard time keeping up with repairs. A couple of areas where paint is pealing or someone had used nail polish to paint on the walls etc.

Nice hotel with very reasonably priced rooms, and hands down the best free included breakfast of any Manhattan hotel I have ever stayed in (which is most of them). The staff is charming and helpful, but their security guards are extremely rude, to the point of being almost abusive. This includes their security manager as well. It, unfortunately, will affect my decision to stay with them again. Hmmm. Amazing breakfast, or decent treatment? Should I have to choose?!

  • 4/5 James A. 2 years ago on Google
A great front desk experience. Very busy place and doesn't have enough elevators to accommodate the masses. There may be problems with the three the building has so expect long waits. Free breakfast buffet has reopened here and again, very busy. They do their best to keep up. The small rooms have kitchettes. Views from upper floors are pretty great. The Hells Kitchen location is very handy and close enough to subways to be a good hub for wider spread city travels. Rates vary.

Note that we were not able to stay at this property, so this review is based only on the responsiveness and customer service I received when cancelling a reservation. Our plans changed and we were no longer able to stay at this property. I called Marriott central reservations, who sent a message directly to the property management. Within a day, I received an email response. Communication was friendly and efficient and they were able to resolve my reservation cancellation quickly. If we're ever able to, I look forward to visiting the Element in the future.

Pluses: - the staff were very friendly and helpful - the location is excellent - bed was comfy - heat and a/c worked well Minuses: - only had HOT (very hot) water out of my taps. Didn’t matter what you turned on, you only got hot water. - other colleagues staying in the hotel at the same time had similar experiences, though about half of them had only cold water - general state of disrepair: in my bathroom, the handle for the shower’s water control was held on by gravity/friction. You had to be careful after touching it or it would fall off. The last night of my stay, the pipes in the bathroom above me must have sprung a leak - woke up to a bubbled ceiling in my bathroom with water dripping onto the floor. - the elevators aren’t great. During busy times, expect to spend 10-15 min waiting for an elevator.

stayed for four nights, was walking distance from times square which was great. elevator was slow due to so many floors but on the bright side, they have a rooftop with a good view of the city. vince was very kind and considerate, was a big help to me and my mom while we were there. thanks to him we were able to get our bags quickly and make it to our flight on time.
