This is a horrible institution. They do not listen to what the patients have to say, the nurses give you a hard time to get your basic needs met. I wish I can give the public more awareness about this place so nobody has to suffer the way me and my fellow patients suffered. The schedule was a a hoax, they always made excuses and they always told us they were understaffed so our basic needs were not met. I felt very uncared for and scared and extreme loneliness. My visitors were horrified too. 2 nurses that treated us like humans were michaela and sal so big shout out to them both!

My friend was there for a week, he got thrown on the floor and the staff never want to apologize for him. Most of the staff (not all) were rude to him. I told him it's not crazy, its Gracie!

Nurses, esp, the Chinese nurses here are very rude to their patients. They don’t seem to emphasize with them and their needs while they stay here…they should be doing something else instead of using their cell phones all the time. Shame on them. Food is decent to good and facilities are a bit newish but nothing that particularly helped me with my stay here for 10+ days or more.

If there were inspectors looking at GS they would fine them and shut them down. Threadbare linens, non working toilets, indifferent staff. NYP doctors will falsify documents to retain pts agst their will, abuse pts w medication, ignore serious health pblms in order to keep pts. They are so understaffed that they list people from the billing department as case mgrs to make it look like they have enough of a team. Doctors at nyp delete medical files, falsify them, withhold information from families, lie constantly even when documents can prove their lieing. The General Counsel acts as a front to this behavior. This behavior is sanctioned by the entire C Suite and Board whose indifference to complaints are a tacit approval of them. The psychiatrist we had was temperamental and abusive to my family member. Less a hospital than a gulag and doctors/senior staffers at nyp are the capos.

They have a chaplain which is good. They keep patients in closed air with very limited access to the fresh air, a total violation of human rights. In my experience, it was a chaotic place, the management could not keep things in order. No queuing system for iPad/radio, hard lights and noise are my minor complaints. Some members of the staff are physically abusive, I witnessed a male staff member lay hands on a female patient without any physical aggression from the patient. There are cameras everywhere but the management failed to review the footage and take appropriate remedial action repeatedly during my stay. They over dose patients with drugs without due diligence. They keep patients for in-patients “care” longer than necessary. The aim of some of the doctors here is to force a diagnosis on you and invalidate all complaints from the patients. Some doctors over dose patients. Many of patients at this hospital were smarter than some of power hungry control freak staff. Not a great combination. If you have a loved one at this hospital, I would recommend you check in on them by paying them a visit regularly. I hope for everybody’s sake that some independent God fearing organization audits this place. Your experience may vary.

A very dear person to me was admitted for depression for 5 days. Most of the staff were very helpful. The security personal great and the social worker as well. But one of the nurses at the discharge day wasn't, she was ready to put us out of the door completely unprepared, she was unprofessional and rude we felt as if she was discharging a criminal out of prison rushing us out to the street.

I specifically want to give a 0/5 to my former psychiatrist Dr. Gamer who was a truly appalling caregiver and has no business dealing with other human beings. This was about a year ago so I’ve had time to think about it, and I am still struck by how callus, dismissive, and patronizing she was. My friends and new providers working in mental health treatment all react with true shock when I describe my interactions with Dr. Gamer. It was not only the worst medical care I’ve been given but some of the most negative interactions I’ve had with another person, period. I don’t believe I’ve ever felt less understood by another person. Overall my experience was fine (3/5), the support staff was good-great with a few really outstanding people that made a huge difference there. The actual treatment was fine, nothing special but certainly not bad. But again, my time spent with Dr. Gamer was deeply uncomfortable and generally upsetting, not to mention totally unhelpful for my mental health. I have no issues with the hospital and the rest of my treatment there, just her. Hope she reads this!! :)

Gracie Square is a premiere hospital that provides loving care and compassion for mentally and emotionally ill patients. I have seen firsthand how this hospital's staff treated my wife with care and compassion which nursed her back to health. Over the past ten years, my wife has been admitted to nearly every psychiatric hospital in the city. If she ever has to be admitted again, I will make certain it is Gracie Square. The facility is clean with modern fixtures and furniture. The staff is kind and very patient. I highly recommend this facility for your friends and loved ones struggling with mental health challenges.

Torturous place with sadistic nurses who jump to sedation whenever they get annoyed. The nurses need coping skills so they don’t take their anger out on the patient.

Beware of the so called social worker named Kate and the female dismissive psychiatrist. They used family members to fish information, then they ghost you, overmedicate your loved one, called insurance to get approval for more time, won't called anyone at time of discharge. Your loved one is sent with high dose medication and more meds to handle side effects of the overdosing . Very irresponsible for a social worker to give patient a diagnosis at time of discharge, without any family present. That is a sure recipe for suicide. Nursing staff are compassionate and they understand how challenging is to deal alone with mental conditions.

Mental illness is very hard for the patient & family but our family’s experience here could not have been better. Staff is capable & friendly from security to nurses & aides. Social worker was excellent & always available. Facilities were clean & bright. Outcome for treatment was positive. Phones available to stay in touch with patients. Visiting is easy. All very positive. Thank you to all of the staff.

To be fair, it has forms of therapy and various educational sessions, and a number of great staff. Patients were usually wonderful to me and I made friends quickly. Now, time for some blunt honesty: It's unsafe and uncoordinated; they mix obviously hostile patients with passive ones; and my friend experienced a severe allergic reaction to a medication so she reported it to a doctor, only for a nurse to offer it to her again. Additionally, at our last meeting, their doctor became impatient with me although I had really bad withdrawal at the time AND untreated ADHD through no fault but their own for not supplying my prescriptions.

First, the staff are committed to their patients and take their jobs very responsibly. Alana, NP and Mikaela, staff nurse were extremely helpful in providing much needed insight and information to family members.Jonathan, SW expedited paperwork necessary to get things done. The staff care and it shows. It would be useful, tho, for some to return phone calls. Family members, on the outside, are often unfamiliar with the mental health system, and info and return calls would be helpful. This is especially true, when a loved one hears patient horror stories Such as not being allowed to leave on and on. Thank you to the awesome staff! Second, this is a psych hosp. Folk here often have serious mental health issues. Expect a lot of yelling, screaming, things such as tables crashing to the floor. Expect Many sleepless nights. Expect lights to be on and loud noise, very boring with not much activity. Food is ok,expect to gain weight due to lack of ability to exercise.

Absolutely horrible Patient Care ! They think they can abuse their patients and not answer to their families and get away with mistreatment. Trust me when I say …. GOOD ALWAYS WIN & you and your administration who turns a blind eye will learn !

While this is a hospital that can help a lot of people, the choices made by the staff continually undermine the treatment of the patient. Some staff were outright rude and did not treat patients as people. Additionally THERE IS NO TALK THERAPY HERE, which does not make much sense to me personally as it is a psychiatric hospital. Even when Patients begged and pleaded for some sort of talk therapy they were denied. To be fair there were groups which can be helpful to a lot of people, but it very much seems like they only cared about medicating the patients. There were some nice nurses, but not enough to make up for the ones who seemed to actively dislike the patients. The food was tasteless, but they were very helpful with accommodating different diets and food preferences. (The kosher food was very hit or miss too as it was not made fresh) Visitation hours might depend on the floor and the specific patient, but generally were 11am to 8pm, with all guests having to leave during any meal times Meals were served at 8:30, 12:30, 4:30, 7:30 so if you plan on visiting someone keep that in mind. Visitors can bring food, but it will be searched by staff. They also only allow 15 min once a day of "outdoor" time. And that "privilege", as they call it, must be requested from a prescriber, but often patients do not know this and forget to ask, and even if they do ask, they are often denied without explanation, causing many people to NOT have ANY outdoor access for weeks.

Horrible looking, old Psych. inpatient Unit. I went to Lenox Hill which has the BEST Inpatient Psych.Unit and excellent doctors/staff/therapists, but they didn't have any beds so they sent me to Gracie Square. I can't believe Lenox Hill a reputable hospital refers people there. I'm sure they have not visited the Psych. Unit at Gracie Square. If they had I'm sure they would STOP referring patients there. At Gracie Square, the Lobby which you can see has been newly renovated was the only aesthetically pleasing place in the hospital. The rooms were old, look more like the jail cells I see on TV. My bathroom was old and disgusting. The shower floor was unsanitary and the shower faucet was clearly rusty. I wanted to cry when I realized I was being admitted here. I convinced my doctors that I was all better just so I could be discharged. I WILL NEVER EVER AGREE TO BE ADMITTED HERE AGAIN. As for the doctors/staff/therapists I can't recall much about since my stay was so unpleasant I completely blocked any memory of my stay. If you can stay away from Gracie Square Hospital Psych, Inpatient Unit. God bless you and please DON'T GIVE UP GETTING HELP. YOU DESERVE LOVE AND TO LIVE. CALL 911 OR CALL A SUICIDE PREVENTION HOTLINE IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE HELP. NYP-CORNELL ON 68TH ALSO HAS ONE OF THE BEST PSYCH. INPATIENT UNITS. NYP-CORNELL ALSO REFERS PEOPLE TO THEIR NYP-WHITE PLAINS HOSPITAL WHICH IS THE BEST, BEAUTIFUL PSYCH INPATIENT UNIT I'VE BEEN IN.

While I was only here for a short period of time (4 days), I found the hospital remarkable for the help, patience and caring of all the staff -- psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, everyone, and many had marvelous senses of humor. I gained 4 lbs. in 4 days -- you get a lot of food and snacks. Everything is clean and well-kept. And even my fellow residents were great! Most of them were funny, friendly, understanding, and simply wonderful people. My room-mate was marvelous, considerate, and a dear person, and in my 4 days I made quite a few new friends. This was my first time in a psychiatric facility, and I had no idea of what to expect. My experience was, frankly, excellent, and I'm very grateful for the care and treatment I received. Thanks to everyone I met!!

I was suffering from memory loss for over a decade. One day I woke up and remembered 95% of my life. I remembered I was a volunteer and on 9/11 and I was in the Exposure Zone. I also remembered that I'm a veteran, which I forgot. I called the ambulance and told them everything I just said and they brought me to this Psyc ward. In which the psychiatrist said I was delusional. My family and friends came to visit me about 2 weeks later with all the proof of what I just said. It's a shame and injustice how people can't even speak without being locked up in a Psyc ward.

I will say I was a little nervous when a family member had a stay at Gracie Square. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome from the security staff who explained the admission process. During my family members stay the staff was attentive concerning their needs and made sure they were met in a safe environment. Alex and Luis were very supportive in helping us to obtain the essential help needed inside and out as well. They displayed a true professional and caring spirit. Felicia reached out to us to ensure everything was fine and in order. Although I may not remember everyone’s names, we thank you so much for making a possible scary situation easier to navigate. Thank you Gracie Square.

My mother stayed here for the past 2 weeks. I visited her almost everyday sometimes I am with her for 5-6 hours during visitation sessions. Most of the staff are incredible with a few bad apples in the batch. Some demonstrate a professional and friendly demeanor while others are disheartening towards patients. The hospital staff do not keep open communication with patients' love ones. Keep in mind that many patients are not in the right state of mind when in these facilities. They do not take a collaborative approach. The hospital discharged without loved ones' input or coordination for aftercare. There were no signs of abuse or major mistreatment from my pov. Overall the security staff and social workers are nice and approachable. I appreciate the kind efforts made by all and would recommend the facility if you are one who likes to follow up.

The experience was fine other than the bad food, boredom, and staff who acted rudely. Two of the three phones on the unit didn't work, and one of them had actually been ripped off of the wall before I got there. I along with other patients would spend the entire day inside of the unit. For days on end. There this young, light-skinned, Hispanic-looking woman who works on the 3rd floor during the day, whom I could swear I overheard her tell two other staff members that I smelled like sh (a certain curseword that I can't type so this review could show). I could not shower as I had no sandals and I wasn't going to go barefoot. On another day, seconds after I walk passed her she made a remark about someone having to 'wash their a,' and I looked at her and the male staff member she spoke to and he carried on the conversation with the words "Why don't you wash that a?" I could not quite tell if they were talking about me. One nurse who was a white c.u.n.t had ignored me as I was addressing her. She was on one of the hospital smartphones with the red case on it.That was all quite the experience to remember. Still I was safe and well fed. There were some staff members who were nice.

This is a very harmful hospital in every manner. I had a friend who was was blatatnly manipulated. The fact that they label themselves as safe for the LGBTQ community is a sick joke because they created an incredible unsafe environment and endangered my friends safety on multiple occasions. The staff would escalate the situation in response to valid advocation and continue to turn the blame of the escalation onto my friend, pinning "bad behavior". This hospital is corrupt, harmful, unsafe, and inhumane. No one should go here and this hospital should be investigated and shut down. The people who work there shouldn't be able to sleep at night with the sickening pain and trauma they've inflicted.

Lost my wedding ring visiting a friend who is currently a patient. So upset as I did not expect to have to place my belongings in a locker when visiting a NYPH. Security officer Burton & 2 of her colleagues as well as Mrs. Zaida on 4th floor made effort to help but sadly it wasn't enough. Hoping who ever found my ring at this hospital turns it in. Willing to pay Reward & think of positive Karma it may bring you who found my ring.

Upscale Bellevue. Facilities are outstanding. Could use some improvement with doctors. Didn't feel like they made an effort to help. Asking me what my choice in meds was as opposed to pushing Zyprexa which I refused. Hire me, Doc! I have a psych degree!!!! Music group with M**** was outstanding. Really a beautiful human being. Resident that looked like Allison Williams was always a sweetheart and very helpful. Thanks for the Christmas party! Ernesto is a gem too!

I had been visiting my spouse almost everyday for 2 weeks straight and I observed great and professional doctors and staffing who really show professionally cares. Even though my spouse was a Patient-Zilla due to his sickness, they treated him with professional-kind-approach.They diagnosed correctly and gave a medical treatment plan at the release. But what all really matters for me is that my spouse has been fully recovery since then. So I personally trust GSH that I will check in myself if I ever need mental medical treatment hospitalization; there is no other place that I will trust in this world … P.S. One last tip to anyone, I was very polite and patience all the time when asking, requesting or inquiring anything … try to be mindful and understanding how hard is their professional medical job …
