Took my father there and never again. Came in through Ambulance and was in the ED for over 8 hours being ignored for most of the night. He came in because of a Stroke and was left there with a Nurse/Technician who was online shopping the whole time while chatting with her friends. She had her monitor turned away from us since she sat facing us, but the location of the bay made it that you were coming from behind her when you entered that area, so the first thing you see is her and her monitor on Macy’s and other sites. I’m not asking that she sits there and stare at him but I’d would have preferred that she acted more professionally and a bit more quiet. I did not need to hear her speak to her coworkers about food and gossiping.

Here with a loved one and it is the worst place ever! Patients are lined in the hallways and what should be a room for one is a room for two. Everyone seems disconnected and doesn’t seem to know their a$$ from their elbows. You’re spoken to as if you should know where to go or what do while waiting for someone in the ER. It’s just unprofessional in every way possible. The Only one person that was helpful, polite, and respectful was Vanessa, a nurse who was overseeing my loved one during the day shift. The evening shift didn’t even announce herself and apparently lost an important paperwork with patient info on it hi her further delayed her time des to assess and deal with patients. Can’t believe I was born here... such a disgrace!

I did part of my internship with this hospital that was not a good experience. The ultrasound tech was very insecure and very rude with the patients and was talking down to patients as if they were her maid/ servant and that is clearly violation of patient right. Often time the tech had lotssss of freeeee time and was surfing the internet ( looking for shoes and cloths for sale) and when it came to patient care , she would always create a drama and would rush the patient and yelling at them or giving lecture, as she needed badly to go out for a cigrette break. As far as my internship, it was a total waste of time and I did learn nothing. The tech behaved like a vampire toward the patient and intern students. A very aggressive person and created a hostile environment and not a learning environment. The sad part was that she was getting paid very well and was doing nothing and even the supervisor and the doctors that work with her were kind of scared of this vampire tech. I was lucky to get out of that horrible place and go to another place where I could learn more and I now I could teach her as her images were lousy and poor quality. I would not recommend the ultrasound internship program to students in that hospital, run before you waste your time and the money that you pay for the internship. Will never go to that hostile place.

My sister had a beautiful newborn born on the 27th... Right after his birth he was neglected Food from when he was born 8am till 4pm... If no one speaks up no one will do anything better yet leave u dead... No supplies, stingy with baby formula, lack of support, no care in the world smh

Terrible....nurses and cna nasty attitude dont know about anywhere else but had to ve on the 7th floor with my patient and the attitude so these supposed to be "professionals" is absolutely disgusting!

My father was admitted to Downstate late January 2014. Immediately upon his admission the staff of physicians went to work on diagnosing his condition. Within a week's time they had a firm diagnosis. Unfortunately, it was a dire diagnosis but my family was given honest medical advice as to his treatment. The physicians were responsive. They called me to inform me of my father course of action every step of the way. The doctors returned my calls. The nurses were friendly, professional, and attentive. The palliative care team was compassionate and cooperative with my family's requests. Maybe if my father had been admitted to Downstate originally he would still be alive.

My mother went a few weeks ago. She was complaining of pain. We went to the emergency room. The staff was warm and professional. The er team was very attentive. They provided us with information in a timely fashion. My mother was admitted. The staff in the transplant wing were equally as pleasant. She had the have her gallbladder removed. The surgeon, Dr. Swartzman, met my mother and explained everything to her. His team periodically checked in on her. The surgeon was a success. The staff in the recovery section were very attentive as well. The entire hospital from the er to discharge treated my mother as one of their own. She was in great hands.

The call center is a joke.. long wait to get someone to take your call and then they keep transferring you to a department that don't answer their phone. And You can't make appointment in the hospital when its your first time.. So you end up going to another facility

4 months to receive my child’s birth certificate and y’all don’t know where it is. This hospital getting sued 100% DO NOT GIVE BIRTH HERE. They bruised up my child at birth they try to push vaccines and other things onto you and look at you like you’re a bad parent when you choose to parent how you feel.

Awful. Here with my partner and they’ve been in the ER for 11 hours almost and were admitted but still not taken upstairs. Nurses on their phones online shopping and playing games and reading the tabloids of all things. I have never seen such a poor hospital staff.

After 3 weeks and dozens of calls I have still been unable to schedule an outpatient radiology study that I urgently need. They just put you on endless holds and transfer you in circles.

Worst experience in my entire life. My nurse was friendly and kind but that was all. I sat in the Er from 10:48 am to 5 am waiting on surgery . Was told there were no beds available for me at the moment. So I sat in the Er in excruciating pain until time for my surgery. Er was extremely uncomfortable and cause me more pain than the pain I was actually in. I will never come here again,

I been coming to emergency department for years and this place went downhill. This place is dirty and unorganized to the point they don’t know who is the next patient to be called.

I used to be a patient at the psychiatric unit of that hospital for treatment in June of 2005. The psychiatric unit of that hospital treated me well for the most part. My favorite part about my time being a patient at the psychiatric unit was when i got to talk to this attractive light blonde-haired Intern named Ms Martina (i don't know her full name) who was assigned to work with me. In other words, she was assigned to talk to me, and she helped get me through the dark time of my life of being a psychiatric patient at that hospital. I hope to see her again in the future to also thank her for being my intern. It's nice that this hospital is within walking distance from the apartment building of my childhood.

I went to this hospital’s emergency room for chest pains and dizziness. Because I had a history of CAD (Coronary artery disease) I was admitted for observation. I have had chest pains for close to 10 years but I didn’t think I was having any heart issues. I also complained of pain in my right ear and right side of my face. I was given an EKG, blood was taken and I was placed on s heart monitor. After ruling out any heart or lung issues that was it. They were ready to discharge me. Never mind the fact I was still dizzy and had pain on the right side of my face. They never even bothered to look in my ear. I got frustrated and ended up leaving AMA (against medical advice) They assign patients to a team of doctors and medical students studying one area. In my case cardio vascular and is that all they look at. Still dizzy, still having chest pains!!!!

I love this school. It’s quite affordable and the hospital is right there so it’s very useful for students.

For over a decade I been put to silence by doctors and hospital staff when they mistreated me but if I do something to them they get taken seriously. When they do something to me I get silence with action and threats of being put to sleep. I wish I could give 0 stars. When I went for medical treatment I got treated for mental. I told everyone I’m Autistic and a male nurse keep putting his hand on me. I told him I don’t like being touched. The male nurse rub my leg my shoulder my hand. The whole experience in the hospital was hell on earth. I was put through humiliation. I was forced to share stuff about myself to not be hospitalized for suicide ideation. The doctor said I’m suicidal but I never felt that way. Everyone was telling me that I feel suicidal when I don’t feel that way. I was put to shame by the doctor and hospital workers.

This hospital is horrible. I would not recommend especially if your pregnant or planning to have your baby here. My prenatal care doctor offered me 2 options for the hospital to deliver my baby. Downstate was one of the options. I chose this hospital because I heard that it was a good hospital but it is not. The labor & delivery staff is horrible. They are very rude. They are short of staff. The hospital lacks cleanliness. They don’t allow anybody to be with u not even the father of your child. They made my pregnancy experience very lonely. Any appointments I had there They said nobody can be there with me Not for my sonogram appointments Not for my NST appointments Not when I was admitted or anything. They didn’t even bring my partner in the room while I was in labor. He was left in the waiting area. I went through my pregnancy/ labor alone. I was in labor some of the staff was being very rude & impatient. They didn’t even know what they were talking about. The night I went into labor My water broke at home and I was having contractions. My contractions sped up so fast. Went from mild pain to excruciating pain within 2-3 hrs. My contractions were coming back to back but they were saying I was only 2-3cm dilated but my baby came & I told them I felt him coming but they didn’t believe me . I pushed him out without the help of any nurse or doctor. By the time the doctor came back in the room my son head was already out All she did was help me get the rest of the body out. The nurse that was in the room with me Watch me go through that pain She did nothing when I was telling her the head was out. She stared at me in disgust Didn’t even try to help me & was giving me attitude. I was telling them I need epidural and she said your not getting it with a nasty attitude & she forced the iv in my arm as I was having contractions. My arm has so many bruises. The night shift is absolutely horrible. They act like they don’t want to do there job. After pushing the baby out then they allowed my partner in the room He missed the whole experience. Then they wasn’t trying to allow him to stay the night there with me After labor they moved me to another room for the rest of my stay. They knew he was with me but yet moved me to another room with other women then said he couldn’t be there because there were other women there as we were sleeping at 11:30pm at night. They don’t want u to have any support they want u there alone. I feel absolutely violated. I didn’t deserve to be treated the way they treated me. They made me very uncomfortable every time I went there.
