A secluded, majestic haven on the north tip of Manhattan. There are not many lush, unadorned parks like this, places not overcrowded, places where the hiker can wander and explore. Expect a steep elevation, but the exploring is not hard if you're reasonably fit. Springtime ensconces the park in an emerald wonderland, leaves erupting from wispy tree branches and tiny plants blowing in the hearty breeze. If you want to be apart from the rush of the city, come here and feel the transcendent beauty of solitude among a vibrant world of life.

Great park to visit at the beginning of November to see fall colors. On the plus side it is the last natural forest with salt marsh preserved in Manhattan and easy to get to from the metro stop. On the minus side it is in Manhattan so you may hear city noise and sometimes sport games going on which break illusions n if being in forrest ... Trails are very easy to walk and very well maintained.

This is the only natural forest in Manhattan. Some of the trees are at least 100 years old. The forest contains mature red oak and some of the largest tulip trees in the New York City. Overlook Meadow has great views of the Hudson River. Don’t miss the Clove and the Rock Formations. I posted a second map with a recommended route (purple trail) that offers good views and an immersive experience. Sections of the red trail next to the road were loud and there wasn’t much to see there anyway!

Part of the NYC park system, located at most Northern tip of the Manhattan Island, family friendly, yet still you can feel some last wilderness and the history of the land. There is a BBQ area at peninsula, if you bring BBQ set. There are many benches, picnic tables. The salt marsh is the great feature. You can enjoy trek on the hill finding quite a history of the Manhattan island.

It's not just a city park, it is a real FOREST! And it's so remind me the forest from my home town where I was born. Wild and beautiful!

A very beautiful park. I went with my friend on a saturday. The park is huge, I saw alot of people walking their dogs, babies in strollers, joggers, photographers, and random folks. Park is by the water front, I think the Hudson. I saw train tracks too. At a point if we continued their would be more trails to explore.

Awesome hiking and mountain biking trails, basketball, baseball and tennis courts. I recommend visiting for views of the Hudson River, check out Overlook Meadow. There are different hiking routes and trees are marked in color corresponding to the routes. Nevertheless its easy to get loss. This parks feels like an escape from the city. You can access the Henry Hudson bridge North of the Park which connects Inwood in Manhattan to Spuyten Duyvil in the Bronx. The bridge charges a toll via car but the park entrance is free and accessible to cyclist and pedestrian. Note there are steps at the exit on the Bronx side of the bridge.

Our family had visited the Golden Gate Park in New York. It's a great place to visit but it takes us quite a while to find the parking space. Street parking is free if you can find one. Be prepared to have 5 or 6 hours scheduled to visit there and also bring jacket with you even if it's summer. Shared my tips and pictures in youishare.

Can’t believe a place like this exist in NYC, feels like you’re upstate. But it is extremely run down and in need of good up keeping and touch up. None of the street lamps work and all look cracked and broken. They need more accurate maps and accurate trail markers (the maps were not clear at all, had no idea where we were going. Couldn’t even find trail markers anywhere on trees. Add more maps throughout park). Stick to the main road path, the off beaten paths has no one on them and are kinda creepy. Plus, without accurate maps and markers, you won’t know where you are or going.

This park has grown on me, since my son loves to come here to ride his scooter and watch the Metro North trains pass by. There’s always plenty of space to hang out in the grass, great paths for hiking/running, and they’ve made some nice changes to the waterfront area by the dock. There is an open soccer field (no nets), baseball fields and a playground…and plenty of space to bbq/chill.

Hidden Gem of a park! I been living in the area for about 2 months and I never bothered to explore this park for the lack of good pictures, but im pleasantly surprised at how cool and dense this trail is. Its 100% covered by trees, it feels nice and shady with some challenging hills. I wouldn’t recommend taking dogs here because of the wild life but it’s certainly allowed. It took me about 1 hour to walk the big loop and the whole time I felt like I was outside the city breathing fresh air.

A true gem of the City of New York. Hands down my favorite park within the boroughs. Views of the Hudson are fantastic, and once you're further in the park, you can't even tell you're just a couple minutes from the busy streets. Very popular for dogs. Nice waterfront greenway too. Public transit is definitely within close distance, A and 1 train a short walk away. Couldn't recommend this place more!

My favorite park. There's two playgrounds, a dog park. Soccer court, tennis and basketball. Nice trails to hike on. Barbecues are allow during the summer in assigned area. The Columbia Marsh is so peaceful to sit by and watch the sunset. If you are lucky during the summer you can catch Sealy the seal hanging around.

Beautiful shorter hiking trails overlooking the Hudson and off the beaten paths. Definitely worth the visit for a cool less intense hiking experience in northern Manhattan. Such a hidden gem

It's a hidden GEM right in the middle of the city! 96 acres or so of 90% virgin FOREST! Great for a day out, perfect for hiking on the color coded trails, from easy to a pretty stiff workout, the trails have it for you. The most awesome feature is the ancient caves. They're not caves in the side of the hill, they're formations made up of fallen boulders and rocks millennia old! Visit this place, guaranteed, you'll LOVE it as much as I do!

Nice local neighborhood park. Great size. Very close to the more well known Fort Tryon Park. There are some really remote trails in here, you almost feel like you're in the woods of Upstate NY. This a more natural park that has been reserved the way it was when the Lenape lived here. Includes a nice pond that feeds into the Hudson River and Harlem River.

Plenty of trails for bike riding, hiking and exploring the more naturistic side of New York City. Basketball courts, 5 baseball fields, 8 handball courts, 2 playgrounds. Next to Columbia university stadium.

Beautiful park filled with a wide variety of activities and a great way to disconnect from the urban environment next door. Massive amounts of green space, watch a community baseball game, climb up high and view the Hudson River from a high vantage point.

Self reminder don't wear Jordans if ur gonna hike up the nature trails to the Indian caves.. the hike was insaneeee but that top view tho is worth it!!! Great park for adventures an nature. Lots of wildlife an picnic areas for families. Lots of shades areas to hang out. Bathrooms. This place is great. There are snakes that cross on some of the walking trails the higher you get. The one I seen was non poisonous but keep a lookout still. Highly recommend to anyone!!

It could use some shading over the workout area ,I don't appreciate the people that come by to workout and have there music blasting on a big sound box that noone else wants to hear .The park dept. , security , or even the police should monitor the area to control the noise pollution. It's also not fair to the wild life in the area .

  • 5/5 Edward A. 2 years ago on Google
Easily the most “natural”, least landscaped and terraformed park in Manhattan, and I’ve been told it’s home to the last old-growth forest on the island (surprising to me that there is *any*, as it’s rare even in less built-up places than here). Lots of trails, well-worn but not too intrusive on the feeling of being “in the woods”—even “in the hills”, as this place will remind you more than anywhere else on the island that Manhattan has fascinating and diverse geology. Some of the high ridges have great views of the Hudson and other parts of the city as well. Go to this park, and as soon as you’re a couple hundred yards in you’ll be amazed you’re still in Manhattan. Truly a gem of a place; thank god it was preserved like this.

Roads needs repair. Not as filthy as the Parks in the Bronx, but it used to be cleaner. This was the park I grew up roller skating. Attempted to skate with my daughter, not good for that. It’s a good place for picnics, volleyball, hiking, not skating.
