I've been to this beach hundreds of times. The parking lot is great for events, as the size is absolutely massive. Also great to learn how to drive or ride a motorcycle. The park is extensive. A very large play area for kids which includes swings, slides, monkey bars, all the normal kid stuff. Handball racket ball courts are great to sit and watch for hours. The diversity in this area is grounding sometimes. Sitting back and listening to the different cultures, the music, smelling all the different kinds of food. This is what New York is about <3. There are also basketball courts, tennis courts, a hockey rink, a very long boardwalk to walk on during the summer or ride bikes on in the winter, an extensive picnic area with bbq pits along the north and eastern parts of the wooded areas. Continuing into the wooded area, several trails exist to help escape from the noise and enjoy the peacefulness of the woods. Trails lead out to the water's edge to help lock in the peaceful escape. Sometimes people leave garbage back in these parts which is a bit of a shame. The beach itself is a bit Jones beach esk. Lots and lots of room on the sand to have fun with friends, play frisbee, dig holes, etc. The water can be a bit dirty and cold, but laying in the sun can give a nice relaxing time, if you go during the right times. At peak, this beach is insanely packed, but on off weeks or months, I'd not rather anywhere else. Parking costs have now been raised to: $9 on the week days $11 on the weekends and holidays $14 on all days for buses, trucks, and commercial vehicles Senior citizens (65+) discounts are available with ID - $5 parking Parking is free once the beach closes for the year

This is what it is… a city beach. Obviously groomed each day, plenty of lifeguards, busy but everyone was respectful. Outdoor showers available, clean amenities. Snack bar is reasonably priced. Easy to get to by car or public transport. We will return.

This is the dirtest murkiest beach I've been to in New York. New York City beaches should be shut down because people don't know how to take care of their environment. Very disgusting, I found pampers ,women's bloody pads, toilet tissue, wipes, small condoms, bags, t-shirts, and band aids. How can people be used to it looking like this?? I shouldn't be surprised, right!!??

Could use a bit of an upgrade, everything looks outdated but definitely looks cleaner than back in the day. I've been there the past couple of weekends and it hasn't been too crowded at all. The little food stands they have there sell overpriced food and drinks and their beverages are always warm.

This review is for Hunter Island trails that start from main parking lot of Orchard beach. Beautiful clean trails in October weekend. Roar of boomboxes quickly fades away, and fall foliage and magnificent Sound views made hike quite enjoyable.

Beach is amazing for public but it’s dirty. Water is not too clean either. There is a beautiful park right next to it for cooking bbq or partying. Parking price varies on weekends and weekdays. Due to lack of life guards there are certain places at the beach you can’t swim. Make sure you ask the guard where you can swim. Super crowdy on weekends but enjoyable. My kid loves going there to play with water and sands

This artificial beach is good respite from the jungle. As for enjoying peace and quiet... this is the Boogie Down, so expect any lulls to be addressed immediately by locals competing for the loudest amplified music. The scenery is very nice, though. Po-po will not let you swim after 5pm, even though sunlight is plentiful until 7pm in summertime.

Orchard Beach was quite disappointing. The beach itself was overcrowded and the cleanliness left much to be desired. The sand was littered, and the water didn't seem very clean either. The facilities were lacking, with restroom conditions far from satisfactory, and the parking situation was chaotic and limited. The family-friendly environment was marred by the lack of proper amenities and organization. The playgrounds were in need of maintenance, and there was a notable absence of lifeguards on duty. Additionally, the noise level from nearby areas was disruptive to the peaceful ambiance one would expect from a beach outing. While the Long Island Sound views were somewhat redeeming, they couldn't make up for the overall subpar experience. The beach's potential is evident, but the lack of proper upkeep and management diminishes its appeal. For its overcrowded conditions, cleanliness issues, and inadequate facilities, I would rate Orchard Beach a disappointing 1 out of 5. There's significant room for improvement in order to provide visitors with the enjoyable and relaxing beach experience they anticipate.

Back in the day it was the last beach you would want to be at on your day off. However they cleaned this place up alot and made it more family friendly. Alot of signing and dancing followed by your local nut cracker salesman always around during the hot summer days. They host concerts and events in the summertime aswell.. food and a park. Free to enter until the summer starts then you have to pay to enter. Parking lot is big but finding a space close to the water or park is a gamble so get there early! Also city island is near by for some fresh seafoos after a day at the beach! Have fun!!

It has been 20 years since I came to the US via JFK airport on Saint Patrick's day ☘️☘️☘️. Having said that it is also 20 years since I visited this beautiful place 🌊🌊🌊Dad's house is 18 minutes drive from here. Beautiful calm beach with lots of sand. It can get super crowded in the summer so plan accordingly. There is a kayak launch on the upper left back section. Parking space is huge! I did not know Orchard beach is part of Long Island Sound and the sound goes all the way through the Connecticut shoreline and the north shore of Long Island 🏝 until Block Island sound in Rhode Island βš“οΈβš“οΈβš“οΈ. I am so glad we have a piece of the Atlantic ocean right next to us!!! (Photos were taken in november last year)

My experience at Orchard Beach 10 years ago was a disaster. Ridiculous overcrowding, noise, drunkenness, and garbage everywhere, even in the water. No place to put your blanket. Last week, it was like stepping into another world. A good mixture of families, evenly spread out and having good family fun with the kids. Plenty of space to set your blanket and minimal garbage left on the beach. I had a blast with my kids.

Orchard Beach in May 2023 weeks before the official annual opening is just as beautiful and nice as the regular season. Just don't plan to enter the water because there are no official lifeguards on duty. Enjoy the beach sand, basketball, handball, and tennis courts. Or just take a minute to relax your mind.

Great place for a summer beach day! Orchard beach is still off most peoples radars, so there is plenty of parking, and enough space on the beach. The beach is a cove, so don’t expect waves.

I'm in Westchester county and in my opinion I just hate driving an hour plus to go to the beach! Especially when your leaving no one wants to drive 2 hours+ to get back home after being in the sun for several hours lol! This beach is very local to me so convenience 100%. This beach in the past and to today has a bad rap and totally used to be (again by experience) last summer i went several times before work and always had a blast. They've been keeping this beach clean and even the water is clear! I just went on Saturday 9/11 and I had the best experience with one of my friends; she was like oh wow of course typical things to say ... beach in the bronx ehhh and I wish ppl didn't think like that! Unfortunately they do. She was extremely amazed and we had an amazing time! Tide was very low so a lot of little fish, snails etc were @ shore. I really recommend it! Can't wait to go again!

Very nice beach and park in the midst of the Bronx. Mixed experience however. While the beach is very nice and groomed with calm water, and there are large picnic areas, nature trails, and areas for fishing, the park can become extremely crowded and loud on weekends. There is no prohibition on loud music, so on a weekend you will definitely hear many different groups blasting music on large speakers. Today there is a tent and dance area set up by a church, and they have large PA speakers surrounding the tent blasting music so loud that it can be heard up and down the entire beach. By all means hold a community event, but the incredible volume of the music is just unnecessary. Multiple other groups are also blasting music, so it's just a cacophony of noise when you are in the central area of the beach. If you don't want to listen to someone else's music blasting in your ear the entire time, choose a week day, or come first thing in the morning at 9am. Additionally, they are very strict about the water. You cannot swim or wade outside the life guard area, which of course makes perfect sense, but you cannot even walk knee deep outside of this area either. A hint of bad weather and they not only remove everyone from the water, which is understandable, but they also evacuate the entire beach, even though it's not even raining and you can see the weather will clear up again shortly. Safety is one thing, but this is a little excessive. Basically, it's a nice beach and it offers something very accessible for this part of the city, but if you want a nice peaceful break from the city to enjoy the water and nature, you're not going to get it on a weekend.

From the moment we drove up to the car park at Orchard Beach, we knew our retreat would be an absolute delight. The people are truly what transform this beach from sand and water into a home. The parking attendant was full of life and had such a great sense of humor and zeal for her job. We were greeted by the kindest family who saw us struggling with our umbrella and graciously lended us a shovel and filled us a bucket of water to fix it. Speaking of water, the water at this beach was so refreshing and the attendants of the beach were such great swimmers who had great tricks that they did in the water too. Lastly, the music on this beach made us feel like we were at a concert! It sounded like live music, and couples were dancing the bachata. LOVE orchard beach, definitely would recommend for families, couples, and individuals of any age. Would recommend for honeymoons, anniversaries, and family reunions!

We got there at 10am and it was very clean. It's about a 10 minute ride and parking is very easy to find. There was a guy playing music which made the day even more beautiful. Despite not being a fan of the beach, I enjoyed myself and got a little tan πŸ‘πŸΎ

So glad I finally explored this place. Lots of trails through the woods, secluded spots along the water, a big curving beach, picnic areas, basketball courts, small islands to hike to, fishing holes, sea birds, and rocks to scramble across near the water's edge. Just a great place to escape from city life. There were definitely people there on the fall Saturday I went, but it's so big there is plenty of room to spread out. At one point I was hiking a trail along the bay for over 20 minutes without seeing anyone else. Highly recommended.

Great neighborhood beach for a quick getaway. I wouldn’t recommend swimming in that water but it’s still nice to stop by and clear ones head or catch a tan on the beach. Known as the Riviera of the Bronx. This beach is far from his heyday however, it still remains a great place to go out enjoy the sun with friends and family. The picnic and grounds and barbecue grills are heavily used by Beach patrons for gatherings. Personally I never get on the sand, so I have never been in the water.

Buen ambiente. Familiar. Tranquilo. Los precios ? Horribles!!!!. Exagerados. French fries? $4.00 una soda Coke, Pepsi. Ginger Ale, $4.00. A beer from $5.00 -$7.00 and tjey serve a half of cup and the reat is bubbles. Pl3ase give me a break. And the attitude from the employees is real rude, bad and disrespectful. Stop using the phone when you're on duties. Cleaning yes 98%. Security 98%. Because the weed. The rest enjoyable.

Orchard beach is safe place to go spend your day nice and quiet with family .you can either stay at the park under the shade Using the grills or at the sand taking the sun or enjoying the fresh water. The water us not deep neither the waves are ruff which make it safe for the kids to swim or play without fear .there are life guards on duty all the time while the beach is open and sometimes special events are happening at the parking lot. There is also a tennis and basketball court for those that like an extra activity . of course there is also a spot for those that like fishing ..

I am born and raised in the Bronx and I must say it’s much nicer than I remember it being as a kid. Great to go get in a workout or just chill. I’ve also ventured off to the nature trail and it was way more nature than I expected lol we even saw two deer. Nice little hike that I wasn’t even prepared for but next time I will be! The beach sand is clean. Wish I could say the same for the water. Lots of dirt and algae growing around in the water. It’s fine I guess if you go deeper in the water. Good place to take kids. Major plus people are social distancing and keeping away from one another. Lots of BBQS going on... almost felt like I was part of a concert! Lol Parking is cheap only $10 and that’s it. I rate 4.5 since it’s the closest beach that’s not a hassle to get too. Just wish the water quality would have been better. It was nice overall

August 2020. Overall nice. Most people stay in the middle sections so it can become packed and noisy there. We stayed furthest to the left. Nice and quiet.😎😎 However, swimming not allowed there because Lifeguards are in the middle sections. Masks on in restrooms. Social distancing. There is some smaller garbage floating in water. Especially closer to the middle. Easy fix Visitors: Bring an empty plastic bag for your garbage and drop in garbage bin on boardwalk. Thanks 😊 For some, the water here may seem "dirty" because it looks dark. That has to do with the type of water, the way the sun hits the water and the type of sand. It differs in different parts of the Earth.

With all the money it makes they should always keep the bathrooms at all time clean and smelling good it's a shame woma...
