DO NOT PAY YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO THIS GYM! SPECIALLY THIS REGO PARK LOCATION. the equipments are constantly broken, so not much equipments are left to use. it’s not worth of membership money, if they cannot fix the broken equipments for months. The manager Alfred is fake, he pretends to be sweet but no service is provided they charge you $26.77 or $46.77 depends for how much they are scamming you for. The gym is over crowded and mostly dominated by people working out in groups, who keep working out on one single machine and don't leave the machine for a long time. Do not sign the one year contract and waste your money, work out somewhere else but not this gym. The machines are also outdated and limited. everything just almost sucks here. The rest rooms are smelly and not clean at all. I feel bad for everyone getting scammed by they're one year contract.

I’ve moved out of Queens, New York. My Retro Fitness membership was based off the Rego Park location. My current residence is 4 hours away from Rego Park. I have found it very difficult to cancel my membership. It should be as simple as a phone call. I don’t understand the need for me to specifically travel to my home gym to “answer some questions” before closing my membership. The only other solution offered was for me to write and mail a certified letter requesting that they close my membership. My move out New York was unforeseen, it was literally overnight. On Sunday, July 24, 2022 I went above and beyond and drove 4 hours to my home gym in Rego Park to specifically close out my membership before I get charged the yearly service fee. I was still within the one-week’s notice to cancel my membership in order to avoid that yearly fee. When I arrived at 5:00pm there was no manager on duty for the reminder of the day to close out my account. I left a note with the front desk staff. I called on Monday and was told that I had to again come to the gym in person to close out my membership and that it was already too late to avoid a yearly service fee but the my monthly fee would be waived because of my on time payments. I’ve always paid on time and for the last 6 months I haven’t even visited the gym because of my busy schedule. I began to display emotions of frustration for the inconvenience. The manager on duty, Alfred, said he would talk to the owner and see what they can do. Today Wednesday July 27, 2022 I received a call from Alfred and was told that they would be able to close my membership over the phone and waive the first months fee but not the annual service fee. I am EXTREMELY ANGRY! I should have been able to seamlessly close out my account over the phone from the beginning rather then being asked to travel 4 hours to my home gym or take time out of my busy schedule to write and mail a certified letter. I still ask why I need to visit my home gym. Why can I close mg account from any other Retro that may be closer to me or over the phone. My intuition says because Retro wants to retain me as a customer and do everything to avoid me closing my account. What Retro doesn’t realize is that people actually don’t need help in making those kind decisions specially when it becomes a greater inconvenience than what it should be. Today, Sunday July 31, 2022 I was charged the yearly fee of $47.03.

Weight training related equipment is on the ground floor. Machines and cardio together with a class room on the 1st floor. Staff are friendly 😊😊😊😊 and was staying in the hotel 🏨 behind and got free able pass. Amazing that Locker, Drink Machines, Water fountain ⛲️ Wi-Fi in the gym is available....

I arrived and double parked, their parking only fits 10 cars, walked in met a customer service agent, they were not ready to show us the place for some reason, yet 2 were there looking into the cash regiester, so I gingerly walked around the cpunter to take a look at the listing room, the agent after several minutes came over and brought me back to the counter, then she asked me to wait again. I saw the stairs, and I was concerned bought my vehicle double parked outside, so I decided just to take a quick look at the room upstairs so i may save time and get straight to pricing, being that I was there to get a membership for my family (and they know the place already). As Im approaching the top step, I hear voices screaming from below, you'd think I was going to jump off the roof. I look down and I see the customer service rep asking me to come down, then I see another older lady (a brunette) running to a lady that is at the opposite end of the counter, and suddenly that Blonde lady runs out from behind the counter and is at the edge of the stairs yelling at me to come down. I haven't seen bouncers react that quick. I respectively turned and said, " its Ok, Im leaving." I would never join a gym with such an angry staff. You think I was trying to sneak into the U.N. As I'm walking out, the manager (the dirty haired blonde) shouts, " I have to protect my members." So, now I'm must look dangerous, maybe I looked like a terrorist, i dont know. But what she didn't know or did not care to find out was that I was there to sign up my wife and I and possibly my son for a membership. And despite reading many a negative reviews I was going to join anyway, but now I certainly am not. I'm a 45 year old professional, i dressed business casual, why would you react or behave like that. I'm certain that this is the culture of this gym and this is the attitudes people are writing about, I'll leave it up to you to decide for yourself, I'm just stating what I went through there. Twas embarrassing to say the least.

Cancellation Membership is Nightmare. Look like it is scam company. They try to take money to anyone. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM RETRO FITNESS. YOU GUYS CAN SEARCH INFORMATION ABOUT THAT. Guys please read agreement carefully before signing it . They will ask you to sign for 12 months agreement and pay $42 processing fee and annual fee $54 (hidden). If you want to cancel membership , you still have to pay for these fees and waiting up 60 days for cancellation processing . Still pay and pay no matter you go to gym or not . That’s is very horrible agreement and my big mistake and lesson . I have to move out of New York so I really need to cancel my member ship

Gym is a zoo. Not nearly enough equipment and ridiculously crowded. Literally ever single time I go there, the equiptment I want to use is not available. If ur trying to do bench/squat/deadlift, good luck finding one to use. They need to end their "plus 1/ bring a friend" policy because it only makes the problem so much worse. Putting paying customers with memberships last and walk-ins first.

50 % of the machines are broken; if not broken, they have some sort of malfunctioning. restrooms are always dirty and wet. Not one of the best gyms in Queens. You can use once but not to make it your favorite👌 Not to mention the kids( group of 5 or more) hoarding the machines on the first floor. They are always on the phone, they say working out while you wait for the machine to use it... I'd not recommend it

Seem to be some bad reviews on here… but I’ve had nothing but a positive experience. Free weights on the ground floor and an abundance of machines and cardio on the 1st floor. Staff extremely friendly and was able to get a 1 week pass for $30. The free 1 day pass also allowed me to try the gym before buying! 20 mins walk from where I’m staying , which was great for some morning warm up steps. Some really good nautilus machines. Gym goers are friendly and polite & it’s just what you expect from a good old fashioned weights gym. Finished my workouts and either bought a freshly made shake behind reception, or walked to the queens centre for some teriyaki chicken & rice. Wi-Fi in the gym too, great for cardio & YouTube. Would 100% come again!

This is a wonderful gym, you can truly focus and zone in on your fitness journey here. The staff here is incredibly helpful and kind. They always greet you and always provide an excellent customer experience. They're also motivating and treat you as a valued member of the community that is built here. I always bring friends and family and they're great with them. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants a place to call a second home.

I stopped by Monday to inquire about memberships as I am new to the area and looking for a new gym.I was welcomed by a gentleman named Alfred but I asked to speak to someone who spoke spanish & was helped by a young lady (by the name of Caren) who explained everything beautifully and even offered me a tour. However, The gym was extremely crowded , the flooring was a hazard , and the second floor had majority of machines broken . I would love to join in the future because of the amazing staff once the quality of the gym improves!!!! -Marcos Ramirez

Read reviews on this gym so was a little reluctant to go but it's a great gym. The staff are very friendly. The equipment is as good as at any gym I've been to, which is quite a few. The weights are downstairs, the cardio equipment upstairs Plenty of machines There's a few squat racks, a deadlift station and decent bench press kit. The nice ladies behind the counter will mix up a nice fresh protein shake for you too All good gyms get a little crowded at peak times, but it's not a major issue here

This location offers many classes and when registering they tell you, you will be able to enjoy all the classes you want. NOT truth, for the cheaper and up option you can only choose few classes not all of them. To be able to attend all classes you have to pay the highest price of 89.00 a month? How is that even possible? And to register to each class you have to go to a registration process and picture taking again and again. I hardly recommend to find out everything before putting your monthly payment in this location.

Worst gym I’ve even been to period. Going to this gym is legitimately bad for your mental health. Did you want to squat ? Well too bad there’s 4 highschoolers just talking and goofing off not working out for 45 minutes so you’ll never get to use the equipment. Want to use a bench? Well too bad because someone is doing supersets with 3 different machines and you can’t use any of them. There’s so many literal children that use this gym as a hang out space that actual adults who have jobs can’t work out in their spare time because there isn’t enough equipment for everyone. Not to mention the people who think they’re influencers who film themselves for an hour taking a whole corner of the gym to themselves. If you want to go to a gym that has equipment that’s breaking down and dirty and is constantly at double capacity this is the best worst gym.

I canceled for the fact that I moved, but thought I must leave a review; the gym is decently equipped, if you go in rush hour times, expect it to be a bit crowded ( hey, you’re in NYC tho), other than that it’s always empty and positively vibed. And as they say “ it’s the people who make the difference “. The stuff is cool and helpful. Alfred the manger is an experienced, professional guy.. ( thanks for all brother) Don’t let negative reviews affect your decision Stay fit 👍

Scammers...they will have you enroll thinking you have the amenities of using all locations for a certain membership plan, then they will charge you more if you use their Glendale location because they consider it one of their prestigious facilities. They won’t mention this to you during enrollment or even warn you, you’ll just see the surprise on your next bank statement. Also this gym was beyond crowded. You'll have to wait hours to get a bench or a machine. Just find a good gym even if you have to pay more

Went to the gym twice now since reopening. No enforcement on cleaning the machines after usage. I have seen fellow people working out or alternating between machines without sanitizing their station nor are there employees enforcing this. I do not feel comfortable about this and other than the cardio machines providing social distancing, there isn't much socially distancing happening by the weights on both floors. It was by the weights where I saw people working out and not wiping down anything before moving on to the next machine. I went during off peaks hours so I can't even imagine during peak hours at the gym.

Just joined so this review is based on 2 days. Better than most gyms (and I have been at most). PLUSES: wifi, smootie bar, cycling room, group lessons room, pay garage, next to a Starbucks and Burger King, just off LIE., good, almost complete selection of equipment including a punching bag, rope machine, a rowing machine and a few I didnt see anywhere else, everything on one floor. ODD MOSTLY INEXPENSIVE OMISSIONS: no foam rollers "on order for next Jan", no stretch area (can use group room when no classes), no stretch machine, no steel table/boxes, no TRX, no Bogu Ball, stretch bands, only 4 shower stalls, no tall lockers, soap in shower is watered down, no wipe down tissue or towelette for cleaning contact areas of machines. Note this location opened until 11pm ; others closer to Manhattan are opened 24hrs or to midnite. Update Jan 2020: After several years here, most of the Omissions noted above very gradually have been corrected, except for showers and lockers - its still standing room only when Im there due to congestion overcrowding. They are generally clean and now have a discount parking deal with the garage below. Unfortunately the same issues still plague them. The biggest ones (there are others): super crowded (its their business model - pack them in) at peak times with very long waits (can be hours) for some equipment; unprofessional and discourteous staff; and they really are only 1 serious liability case away from closing up, due to penny wise but pound foolish practices, among others, such as dangerous equipment and lack of supervision (mentioned repeatedly to manager). Price wise, its about the same as other nearby gyms, (such as Blink.)

I like this place. The equipment could be better maintained but overall, it meets all my needs. Also ordered some stuff on their website. Had a hiccup on the delivery but Robbie Sprechman reached out and really made me want to continue to do business with retro fitness. Overall, great company and great personable employees, at the store locations and on the corporate side.

Been a year or so working out at this gym and I love it. The only issue I have is you guys need put more of bench press barbell weight lifting workout bench. Two of it is not enough. I mean sometimes the waiting time for one to get it is like a hour or half an hour(even during weekends). I hope you consider getting one or two very soon. Ps- this is happening very often now(the waiting game).

The gym is super-crowded. Customer service is outstanding. The issue is the gym need an immediate upgrade for some of the equipments such as smith machines. The space upstairs needs an upgrade and more organized decoration and place all machines for one muscle group within one area only.

One of the most run down gyms I ever trained in the US. The whole place reeks old. Equipment is ruined and some machines are broken. Toilets are out of service. No cleaning wipes available and since Americans don't use towels, equipment is constantly dirty. There is no trainer around, so people do what they want and most dumbbells or other tools were placed in the wrong spot. Very dusty overall, very crowded. Bar supplies all over the place... Definitely the worst Retro Fitness I've been so far.

So unfortunate spin class got cancelled. It was the best of all the classes where you actually got a good and fun workout in. Machines are constantly broken or always making some weird clunking noise when you use them. Gets insanely packed in the evening and tough take turns on machines. One of the good things are the nice employees and parking lot.

Still need a card on file no matter what. Still need to sign a contract. Even if you of to use cash and choose the “no contract.” They want you to pay the whole year upfront. Try to confuse you in to making an actual decision by talking very fast, even if you’re the only person there. Lack of eye contact shows deceitfulness, even by the actual “manager.” I wouldn’t do it.

Face masks are not being enforced at this location. Yesterday I went for a workout here at around 11:00am. The club was quite busy and there were 3 people I observed working out without mandatory face covering. They were worn around their necks exposing the their mouths and noses. One was on a cardio machine and two were actively weight lifting. The occurrences were not just momentary to get a drink of water but were prolonged. Numerous club members (while actively working out) and even a staff member were wearing their masks around their mouths only and not covering their noses. This Retro Fitness location is not Covid safe.

This is actually a good gym. I’ve been working out there for about two weeks. Can say that it’s a good “starting” gym. If you are looking for some kind of community this is not the gym for you tho. The people there goes there and zone out on working out and get in it done! I would say that this is a A- gym where you can go for a few months, get in shape, and then you can jump to a gym with better community; or stay there and maintain your weight. Some flaws, as every gym or business have, there are too many machines for the space (can have better distribution,) some machines are outdated, and the first floor is super narrow and uncomfortable due to the distribution of the machines all together.

I love all the windows in here too, which really sets the mood when working out. The owner truly cares about the gym and the members! Let’s not forget about the amazing section or protein shakes/pre workouts they have. If you’re looking for a gym to call home, this is it! Thank you!

It’s alright. Needs a bit of redecoration, more machines and better organization of machines so similar muscle group machines are all in the same area. I think too much space it used up by cardio machines when we need more actual machines. The padding on some of the machines needs to be replaced as it’s tearing in various places. Quicker maintenance would be better too, sometimes machines are broken for days on end. Also the gym gets way too crowded at times, some extra machines and reorganizing can help people. No problems with staff, I don’t have the need to talk to them often but they usually always kindly greet you when you enter and leave. I do hear that trying to cancel your membership can be a massive pain.

I'm really impressed with this gym. I feel safe coming here because they have all the equipment a safe distance apart and even have plexiglass between the machines! They also keep the place extra clean now.

I like about everything. My staff are always attentive and friendly. The equipments are always functional and clean. The environment is always awesome and full of amazing individuals. I always have a great time whenever I visit. I highly recommend to everyone I know and don’t know. And don’t forget the smoothie station. I love the peanut butter chocolate smoothie. It’s to die for. The air is always nice and cool. The treadmill have a great view of the boulevard. I don’t think there’s anything I dislike about this place at all. I only wish it was open 24 hours. But then again I love going during the daytime to see all the usual suspect and checking out their gains as well.

Always full, busted equipment, too many cardio machines, too little weight-lifting machines. Not enough benches. The equipment isn’t in great condition either. In these pictures you can see how THE PADDING IS MISSING on some machines. This is ridiculous, how do we even workout if every other machine has 2-4 people waiting to use it next? The water dispenser has also been saying “maintenance” for like the past year, I don’t know what’s up with that either. Find a bigger and better gym than this overcrowded one.
