I referred a brand new member who I train to join a few months after me. She received the $47 rate (had never been a member), I explained we'd both leave if I don't get the same rate, they assured me this change would happen, for 2 months I reminded the front desk and emailed management because "they forgot", "corporate pushed back", "manager wasn't in today". Then they paused my membership for 2 months to make up for their error. Now it's back at ~$75, the "new manager" doesn't have the ability to honor what I've been told for 4 months, and the gym is still a dump, weights are usually left lying on the floor, floor never get cleaned, whatever touches the floor is smudged black, half the barbells leave rust stains. You would think they'd learn how to clean seeing all the Blink gyms are capable of it and only charge $30.

Gym is OK overall, and staff are typically friendly. Leaving an unfriendly note here due to my awful experience attempting to cancel my membership corresponding with my move from the area. Memberships are typically month to month, and you should be able to cancel within 7 business days of month end for your membership the next month to be canceled (this is stated in membership agreements). I attempted to call the gym to cancel my membership, and the woman operating the phone was quite rude and acted like I was crazy to think that I can call the gym to cancel my membership for identity verification purposes... Whatever, she told me to either mail a letter or go into the gym in person. I decided to go into the gym 2 weeks before month end. When I went, the guy working the front desk was very confused that I had come in person to cancel my membership, informing me that I should be able to cancel online or over the phone with no problem... Different information from different people, but whatever, the guy was friendly and scanned my key card and canceled my membership on his computer. Apparently, when he did this on the computer, something didn't go through correctly, and the system didn't cancel my membership. As such, I was charged for the next month. I was on and off the phone with the gym and exchanged several emails with management trying to figure out how to fix this issue. The long and short of it was that they agreed and provided me with confirmation that my membership was canceled as of the day that I intended. What they proceeded to ignore was my request to refund me for the month that I was incorrectly charged, even though I attempted to follow up several times. If they weren't able to give me a refund, I would've been much less annoyed if they could just say that... Instead, I was ignored. Resultingly, I decided to dispute the charge with my bank, so we'll see if the NYSC treasury department will take issue with that... Terrible customer service, and I will never join another NYSC again. Customer service, your job is provide a service for customers, you should start doing that job.

My friend money was stolen from his locker at this gym and no one taken responsibility for it but was told by the manager that only the manager have a master key for the locks so he doesn't know how the money stolen but fastforward to couple days after we saw a worker going the lockers with the masterkey searching most locker of client who in the gym workingout at the time very bad experience and i would never recommend this gym because of our experience there of our money being stolen and seeing a working going through the lockers with the masterkey who isn't the manager have proven how the money was stolen from the locker.

At the beginning of COVID they shut down, sending 3-4 fairly regular communications including the salesy "if you don't cancel your membership, we'll give you access to all clubs", etc. After those "hang in there with us" emails, it was radio silence for the rest of spring and summer. Then, without a single communication, I happened to notice they started billing me again. No "great news, we're open!", no "here are our rules and cleaning activities", just stealthily charging our credit cards without notice! I wrote to my club via the website, received auto generated email, and not a word after 3 weeks. What's the deal, NYSC? What are your plans, rules, hours, do I have the upgraded membership? This gym has done an absolutely terrible job reopening. I know more about the frozen yogurt place's response to Covid than my own gym.

They charged me their full membership fee which is $80/month regardless of their closure of the gym in March, April, September and October lying that all members have “45 days credit”. I sent emails to cancel my membership but they have never replied. When I called the front desk, they literally hang up in the middle of our conversation because they couldn't make up excuses for their overcharges. When I finally went to the gym in person, there were 5 people besides me lining up to cancel their memberships, well, no wonder ! Never recommend anyone to become a membership of NYSC.

Cons: -The weight room is a bit small and can seem crowded with only a few people. -The cardio machines aren't well maintained Pro: -It is in a good location, right off the one train. -It has a steam room which is pretty cruisy if you're into that.

Quite possibly one of the worst gym experiences I can imagine. I've had to spend more time on the phone trying to deal with getting my membership set up and then trying to cancel it then I actually did being able to work out at the gym. Nearly all of the equipment is janky and broken, including cardio machines, free weights and weight machines. Go to any other gym you possibly can.

Once they closed in April due to covid, they started charging everyone again in September with ZERO communication. I called in to cancel since I am no longer in the city and they said the only way to cancel is either in person or to email the manager. I’ve emailed the manager three times now, no response. My card keeps getting charged so I ended up going to my bank. This gym was never worth it in the first place, rarely clean, always smells bad, impossible to get a hold of someone when needed. No wonder their ratings are so awful.

I joined this gym in Feb. by phone, the gym staff said my monthly fee was $49 with a free month starting. I was told this would be the set fee until I quit the gym. However, they charged me $78.36. When I asked about the charge, the staff told me the contract said the fee was $74. I liked this gym until this incident. I wonder why this has happened and why they won't return my money.

Canceled Today (mid month) and they are insisting on charging me half of membership charges for the next month. Terrible business practice. Classes are at inconvenient times and locations and the ones like spin are always full. Shoddy equipment, bikes that rock back and forth. No classes at 5 am. Just overall a poor experience. I won’t be back.

I have been trying to cancel my membership for about a month now. NO ASSISTANCE! Are they scamming people of the neighborhood?! This is completely unprofessional. Spoke to a lady at the front desk, that was absolutely NO HELP and said the only option was to e-mail — Welllllll, no one answers our emails!!! I feel like I have been assigned to a CULT. Do not sign up! Also gym is unsanitary. The set up of the gym makes absolutely NO sense, with their new renovations. I can keep going on and on and on… Save yourself some time and money. I really love the atmosphere here at this New York sports club. On any given day I would normally give it five stars but recently they have changed around the equipment so there is absolutely no room for someone to do anything other than liftweights. This photo I tagged below shows how crowded it is now and how there’s no room to even put a mat out to do bodywork if you wanted. Upstairs is the same thing. I love the staff that work at this location (esp michael), they make the gym atmosphere energetic, but some improvements need to be made in the way the lay out has been formed. They put new turf downstairs, but then put dumbbell racks on top of it? So why get the turf, what was that for? It’s almost like if you don’t have a trainer you can’t get a good workout in. NYSC please reconsider the layout.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Nightmare experience. Had male staff and family of staff walk into the women's locker room at night. Staff did nothing when I complained, just made it seem like they will look into it. Then found out I was being overcharged for membership and when I contacted them, they were extremely rude and demeaning.

All the good remodeling and nothings changed. No place to properly stretch. Water fountain doesn’t work. I just went for a workout at 3PM on Saturday and there are no towels available I told the front desk and he said he was the only person available so I’d have to wait. While they were remodeling we were able to use the on W80th. Far superior management

This is and its staff is awful. I recently canceled as I have moved. And was continously misinformed about cancelation. I spoke to one person and they had said its $10 and I wouldn't be charged again but however I was with late fees after this I had spoken to one of the managers I was told "it's really your fault that you where charged late fees and misinformed becuase you spoke to the front desk" despite talking to the back desk . Awful customer service would never come here again

Very very clean, very well-maintained swimming pool. With a tiny little view of the sky... Plenty of bikes, which I love. Very clean. The wait staff was very helpful and professional. The best pool I have seen yet. As far as New York sports clubs go.

After putting my membership on hold, I continued to get billed. I consistently asked to stop the billing and to get my money back and it took a month to do so. Then, when I was no longer going to come back to NYSC because I moved, I canceled my membership and STILL got billed. I called and they told me that although there was a note in my account that stated I canceled the membership in August, it had never been implemented and that there was nothing they could do since it was already September. On the phone, the representative admitted that they had a note in my account to cancel the membership but they "forgot to do so" but now it was too late to so anything so I was stuck paying for it. After fighting them on this, they then proceeded to tell me that the only way I could cancel and get my money back was to come in and talk to the manager but I had MOVED (hence why I canceled the membership) so I was not able to come in. Since this was a corporate membership, I contacted HR at my company and they were able to haggle with NYSC to get me my money back. Not only will I never go to this chain of gyms again, but my company is likely dropping them due to the lack of professionalism and respect given to me and the company. It is preposterous to acknowledge that you forgot to cancel my membership but to say that unfortunately the only path forward is for me to pay. And when I told them I moved they DID NOT CARE that it meant I could not come in and they acted like it was my responsibility to travel to another state to talk to them in person and otherwise I was consenting for them to deduct the membership from my bank account each month. I wholeheartedly refuse to ever go to a TSI sports gym again and would NEVER allow a friend to go here. As for my employer, they are considering dropping TSI, also, given the abhorrent treatment . UPDATE: I was given an email below to contact about the issue. Unsurprisingly, no one answered my email. This company prides themselves on lack of communication so they can blame the customer and take the money. I am only further convinced that cancelling my membership to NSYC and getting my friends to cancel their membership or not join was a great choice.

I am extremely disappointed with the state of this gym. The facilities are consistently dirty, with equipment covered in dust and grime. The staff does not take the necessary steps to maintain a clean and healthy environment. In addition, many pieces of equipment are placed in hard-to-reach places, making them difficult to use and even dangerous at times. Furthermore, the gym seems to have limited access to the things I need, and many pieces of equipment that used to be available have been removed and never replaced. It is frustrating to come to the gym and find that the equipment I rely on has been taken away, without any explanation or alternative options. Overall, my experience at this gym has been incredibly disappointing, and I would not recommend it to anyone. It is unacceptable for a gym to neglect basic cleanliness and accessibility, and I hope that the management takes swift action to address these issues

I wish the cleanliness leveled with the customer service. A very welcome environment of workers and gym atmosphere, but then you get welcomed by mold, scum, and bugs in the showers. I was shocked to see that cleaners mop and clean the literal walls of the gym, but not the showers where it is most needed?! BIG yikes.

Have always really liked this gym but am lately very put off by members wearing masks under their noses and no one saying anything to them. Even MORE off-putting was when I went to get on the elevator and one of the MANAGERS was in it without his mask on. I have to take the elevator because of an issue with stairs. Have also seen this same manager walking around the gym floor wearing his mask underneath his nose. What's that all about?

Totally disappointing renovation. They essentially created a weight pumping gym geared toward young guys. No place to stretch or use lighter free weights if you’re elderly. The mats are gone, which, by the way, was a popular part of the floor. The upstairs has a weight area that’s just a repeat of the downstairs!! Will have to find a new gym after coming here 15 years.

This location is in a ideal spot right in between from work and home for me. The actual gym can definitely use some color, it looks very dingy and worn out. Some machines are ripped up and kinda old. The gym itself is good, it's a gym not a world class health club not expecting the full treatment here but they can do much better. Other NYSC do give you that world class and that's a really good feeling. Why McDonald's is so successful, you can love a Big Mac in Brooklyn and go to the Heights and that Big is the same delicious Big Mac. Would love to see some improvements to this gym since it's not doing any justice to the NYSC name.

I used this gym for a few months before the pandemic started. It was always dirty and smelled like it was cleaned once a week. Then before the pandemic closed everything down, I called to have my account placed on pause. I just found out I have been charged for the last 3-4 months without asking for my account to be unpaused and in order to speak to someone about it I will have to wait 1-2 weeks. No wonder the parent company is going bankrupt.

Overcrowded, showers are mostly busted and filthy, over 75% of the lockers are always locked even in the rare occasion it’s not crowded. I join this gym during their remodeling in 2021, they didn’t honor the “locked in” rate either and now I’m paying the same as the new members. They keep closing locations so the existing locations are always busy with the exception of Chelsea. East 45th street is falling apart and the pool is shared with another business so you can only use it certain hours.

Overall the gym is kept very clean by the cleaning team and there are always cloth towels. Today day 2, no paper towels to clean the equipment before or after use (covid is back on the rise with flu season next). Weeks now the Sauna is not working. Please fix the Sauna.

This was my go to place. Great convenient, common sense layout. Lockers where you bring your own lock, available plastic bags for your drenched clothes and classic cardio machines that actually performed. Now they remodeled and renovated the place. It’s trash. They split up the weights into two separate floors. They have these new lockers where you don’t need a lock because its built in with a code that you create…so don’t expect many available lockers even if the gym is empty. I started going to another NYSC near by that hasn’t been renovated/remodeled and to no surprise I see familiar faces from this location.

I'm hoping that someone at this club or an injury attorney's lawsuit will help this club take basic precautions. I usually go there twice a week. Yesterday I was taking off my coat and my bag dropped to the ground, a shower of dust went up into the air and took a good minute to settle. The bigger issue begins at the steam room. Caulking is missing at the base of the door permitting a continuous stream of steam to escape resulting in water pooling at the door. Typically members pile towels in this area to keep from slipping and falling. Once you get to the shower area there are more piles of towels and bigger pools of water. It's just a matter of time before someone is seriously injured, which almost happened to me a week ago. I've suggested placing rubber mats in that area several times. The staff seems truly concerned but nothing has been done. As for the cloud of dust, the cleaning staff is doing a very poor job. Start the cleaning in the elevator, where the floor and NYSC area carpet have not seen basic cleaning for a very long time. I posted some of the pictures I took of each of the areas described in this comments.

I joined this gym a month ago after switching over from planet fitness because I thought it would be an upgrade in terms of facilities and overall experience and I’ve gotta be honest, it’s way worse. And costs 6x as much. It’s always crowded, there are not nearly enough machines or weights, everybody wants to work in because there are not enough machines, which just makes your workout take way longer. And then today I was trying to take a shower after my workout and they legit ran out of towels, the guy said they wouldn’t have more clean towels for another “few hours.” Which completely screwed up my plans to meet people for dinner because then I had to go back to my house to take a shower… I wish I would have just kept my old planet fitness membership.

I'm upgrading my review to 4 stars. Historically, I was inconsistent in attending, but when I would go, so often the steam and sauna would not be working or only half working. Where's my emoji for intense frustration? There is still room for improvement, but in the last 2 months the steam room has been consistently working! It's a vital part of the gym experience as far as I am concerned and determines whether I keep the membership or not. Now if we can get them to consistently clean/disinfect the steam room.

I no longer enjoy working out at this club. Here's a long list of things that used to be in the club and are now missing from the new renovation: spin bikes, decent and adjustable upright bikes with good programs, stair climbers, an arm bike, lateral cross country machine, assisted pull-up machine, boxes for jumping and step-ups, floor mats for stretching (there are two small ones), balance pads, foam rollers, TRX station, and no rowing machines upstairs. In addition: the layout is terrible. Upstairs machines are too close together, and downstairs has a huge open space that can be utilized in other ways. The upstairs area with barbells is cramped. It's sad that it took this much time and money to design such an inadequate space. Shame on NYSC.

Called to freeze my account for 3 months as I am out of the area this Summer. Unfortunately my account wasn't actually frozen and I was charged a full-month amount in June. I have since tried to contact the manager several times to get a credit on my account. I've called over 15 times and sent 5+ emails. Someone either hangs up on me or says the manager isn't available. Nice gym when it isn't crowded, but you better hope you never have payment issues.

Great equipment, but the vibe is hella dry. Lights are bright af. There’s also no music. Don’t forget your AirPods. I reduced a star due to the condition of the dry sauna. It’s a cess-pool. They keep the temperature really low. There’s water and juices everywhere, allowing bacteria to flourish.

I really love this Club, BUT don't expect management to care about broken and unstable cardio machines. For 8 weeks now, 2 out of 2 stair-stepper machines have been broken, and for just as long, I have spoken to, called, and written to management about it. NOTHING happens. Machines still broken 2 months later. Inexcusable club maintenance AND customer service. UPDATE: Now all TV service is suspended/broken since last Tuesday. This is not just a problem at this location; but there is no indication that Management is anything but aware of the issue. Likely here to stay, if not to be a problem for many, many weeks. I'd say you "get what you pay for" at NYSC, except you pay a ridiculous amount of money to be a member. I'd leave in a heartbeat if there were another gym that offered as many locations as NYSC does. If you don't care about that particular issue, I would never recommend joining NYSC.

I've been coming to this location for about two years now and couldn't be more satisfied. In that time, I've been able to shed 50lbs and with that, a good deal of body fat. But the 5 stars is about more than just the numbers and the mirror. The staff here is fantastic. From the front desk and the membership consultants, to the staff who are responsible for keeping the location clean and in order, everyone walks around with a smile and a greeting. The training staff in particular are incredible. I started two years ago working out with Mike Howard, who I can credit with jump-starting my routine and getting me on the right path. If you are in need of a trainer, I'd definitely suggest stopping by to see him. The entirety of the training staff are awesome, always willing to answer a question or provide a spot or just have a chat when possible. The location itself is convenient, and the gym equipment is always in good condition, or quickly repaired when overused.

Its been 6 months of promises for new equipment. But finally the brand new treadsmill came in. Even though things take a minute to happen. It happens! The AC was down for a while but it got fixed! Good things come to people who wait! Literally. Lol

I go here because of the location options and convenience. Descent staff and fresh towels.

I've been a NYSC member for several years. The staff has always been kind and helpful. Recently, I had an issue with my account and Archie, the manager, as well as a few other members of the managerial staff, were all extraordinarily helpful in resolving the issue quickly. I certainly appreciate their willingness to go above and beyond to help their clients.

The gym is very clean with plenty of different areas to work out. I also love working with my personal trainer, Starr! She is very passionate about fitness and is a great inspiration to those around her!

The gym is very clean and with a good array of equipment that is well spaced – but the best thing about this location is the quality and enthusiasm of the trainers. I’ve been working with Michael Howard for about two and a half years, and his skill and encouragement have made a huge difference in my fitness. He has motivated me to work harder (and more correctly) than I ever would on my own, has taught me how to avoid injuries, and to understand how different exercises contribute to helping me achieve my goals. He also varies the workouts and comes up with creative combinations that work different muscle groups at the same time, increasing the challenge and keeping me engaged – and he makes it all fun! Michael’s laugh is contagious, and he makes me look forward to coming to the gym several times every week. The trainers all cooperate to make this location of New York Sports Club a very positive environment.

Charged after cancellation. Called for refund and was told to wait for a manager to call on the day or the next day but never heard from them. Called them again the week after, they said the same thing and it has been like this for 5 weeks and when I called for the 6th time, the guy who wrote me a refund letter answered and doesn't know anything about what waa going on and he was able to help me and I had to call bank

I assume the bulk of these interviews are old, because I joined this location abt a wk ago, and it's up to par with any other gym I've gone to. Decent prices and has everything you could want.

This New York Club is very good. Staff are friendly and do not harass you unlike other gyms today. Has all the equipment I need including TRX bands. Only disappointment is the no showers or steam room policy , or mats to work on abs. Nick is a great Manager. I recommend talking to him for any membership deals. He will work with you.

Too small, too crowded, not enough equipment, terrible layout. I joined about 2 weeks ago, and more than half the times I've tried to work out here I've turned around and left because EVERY SINGLE piece of weight equipment or weight machine was occupied. I try to work out between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, universal dead times, but even then this gym is completely packed. This gym needs to triple its size, or open more branches in the UWS because the current situation is untenable. Plus side: everyone's nice and the equipment is new and in good condition.

On visiting New york i joined this club only to have my money stolen from my locker on the first day. Not a great experience. Be careful not to take any valuables there.i saw the owner's response to my post. The fact is this gym is not one where u take a lock. The locker is already provided with a combination of letters and numbers that you use to lock the locker. There is however a masterkey that the manager/ workers have that can override the combination. To my dismay only moments i saw a worker going through several lockers using said master key whilst i was in the locker room. My understanding was that the only time the master key is used is when a request is made. The fact that he was going through SEVERAL lockets suggests otherwise.
