Van Courtlandt Park is more than a beautiful park with trails, golf club, horse stable, basketball courts, pool. and playgrounds. It has a beautiful forest, lake, birds, flowers, it's nature at full view. It has history on it's grounds, trees, and museum. It's where my family and I enjoy walking and connecting with Nature.

might be the Bronx best kept secret, and possibly the best park in NYC. I have ridden my bike thru the trails countless times. my kids have used the park for all the cross country race course. They have an entire golf course and horse riding stables. All together it's really epic

This park literally saved my sanity during the pandemic. It is a great space. The parade grounds is large enough to walk around. It gets a bit crowded on the weekends, not on Central Park levels. I randomly discovered the hiking trails which are worth it. Parking is free and available. I have always felt safe at this park as a woman, even on the trails. The Putnam trail is open and I recommend it and if you are feeling adventurous, walk it all the way to Westchester County. Enjoy!

I cannot believe that I have not written about the wonderful Van Cortlandt Park after being introduced to it seven years ago when I joined the Van Cortlandt Track Club. It's way larger than Central Park at over 1,000 acres. There is plenty of history here, from 1691 when the land was purchased by the Dutch Van Cortlandt family in the colonial era. The park has many trails for hikers, runners, walkers and cyclists, plus horseback riding. There are horse stables on the grounds near the Putnam Trail. Plus, there's an open field (named "Parade Grounds") by the famous statue of the Tortoise & Hare where you will find a ton of activities happening all over: Soccer, Rugby, Croquet, Cricket, Soft Ball, etc. Plus there is a lovely Golf course and golf house where VCTC has hosted a few award parties and barbecues. There are tennis courts, hand-ball & basketball courts, plus swimming pools during the summer months, and a lake with swans and mallards. Bird watchers come here often to observe. There's something for everyone, Van Cortlandt Park is an oasis and escape from the concrete jungle of NYC in the beautiful Bronx!

Growing up in NYC, didn’t realize there were so many miles of beautiful trails available right in my backyard. Spent the afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park and the trails are stunning, clean, and well maintained. Segments were isolated but saw lots of bikers. I use AllTrails religiously and even when we veer off, trail markers are there to guide me though the woodsy sections. Some trails are close to the highway but why focus on that? There are so many inside trails that take you away from the hum of the roadway that it’s not a bother- at least not to me.

30 years, and it never gets old. They've upgraded, but I'm glad the community has kept some of the historical pieces that make the park so great!

Had a great autumn walk there! Not busy and very relaxing environment. Nice rock formations in the park also. Easy to reach with Undeground line 1 as it is next to the end point in the Bronx.

Discover the charm of the southwest playground nestled within Van Cortlandt Park, where locals joyfully celebrate their children's birthdays. The playground boasts two vibrant areas with fountains, creating a perfect summer setting for kids to revel in endless fun. While the park offers various amenities like skating, basketball courts, a track and field stadium, and baseball facilities, some areas may require maintenance. Nevertheless, visitors can find convenience in the available restrooms. Let's encourage both NYC parks and parkgoers to be mindful of preserving this wonderful space; together, we can ensure that litter-free surroundings make everyone's experience more enjoyable. 🌳🏀⛸️🎂

A large park in the North Bronx that was once the Van Cortlandt estate. The old family vault is still there on Vault Hill, although the location has been damaged by vandals and the passage of time, and the original tombs are no longer there. The hill presents a great view of the skyscrapers of downtown Manhattan.

I've been going to this park since I could crawl. I remember those good summer days at the pool. They have a nice section for the kids to play on the swings and the jungle Jim. They also have a nice track and good handball courts. My wife and kids love walking on the trails. I take my youngest to the dog park but none of the dogs want to play with him lol this year the dog park looks like it's been ignored a bit

Outstanding trails, modest lake with resident swan couple and 4 cygnets, many water and song birds, Parade Grounds for a nice daily walk plus historic VC Mansion. Love this place.

A very beautiful park to frequent. The trails are amazing. I highly recommend enjoying every acher. I love all the wildlife you come across throughout this trail. We were on our hiboy escooters and enjoyed the scenery even more. There are so many places to stop in between and enjoy the scenery. We even traveled the trail at night and encountered some bats along the way. I'm not sure how long exactly this trail is, but we definitely traversed about fifteen miles worth of it. It's definitely worth the visit.

Regular at this course - love the vibe. Waiting is sometimes bad because of beginners, but rangers are approachable, keep it moving. Course layout is fun, and lets you take a few chances for a rare eagle or birdie. Closing 4 holes are the most interesting in New York City. I’ve played here walking and riding - personally I prefer walking because I get to enjoy the course, and it’s natural surroundings more. Trees play a big role in shot shaping. No dog legs as such but great many “draw” holes. Over the years, this course become my sentimental favorite. Well managed - pro shop, food and carts. Greens, tee boxes, bunkers can use some maintenance.

This park is amazing and a gem in the Bronx. City officials will do well to fund more projects on the 2014 Master Plan for improving this park.

Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx offers many activities for people of all ages. It's the second largest park in NYC at 1146 acres. It has playing fields, swimming pools, hiking and cycling roads, areas to relax, the city golf course horse riding stable and a beautiful lake which is a roosting area for swans, geese, ducks, and many seasonal migrating birds. It stretches from the northwest Bronx, to the northeast Bronx and ends at the border of Yonkers. The new biking trail stretches into Yonker's Tibbets Brook Park which is quite beautiful and has many activities. Van Cortlandt has excellent hiking trails through forests, swampland, and hilly areas. If you keep your eyes peeled you'll see many wild animals. Park is kept in excellent condition and there are always park rangers present.

It's eerily cool to see the fog rise from the fields of Van Cortland Park at 6:30am when it'sdark out or when it's light out, this natural phenomena makes for a great effect or scenery for a horror film or even a Halloween themed photo shoot but you'd have to be an early riser if you want to see it and be in the thick of it.

They have renovated this park very nicely. I love walking throughout the park. The lake is beautiful with the swans , Ducks and Geese. Great baseball fields soccer fields and cricket fields. The racetrack is great the handball courts are great to play at. Now they even have a skateboarding Park for the Young. It's a wonderful place to breathe clean air. I like walking up into the mountains of Vancouver Park it's very relaxing. We'll be going back again.

Great place to bring kids and yourself to relax from day to day stresses. Would give 5 stars but when we were there for my kid's soccer game, we could not find any restrooms and a park that size should have restrooms throughout.

I had not been to VC in a few years. I went there to photograph a family remembering some nice areas to take photos. There were too many people and little social distancing, especially around the lake. The benches were filled with bird poop so we were unable to sit. The property use to be better cared for. Now the grass is overgrown in some areas. There are sections that are under construction, so I am hoping it will bring the park back to it's glory. However, this time, I was disappointed.

You can get so lost in this park. I would give it 5 stars but unfortunately a lot of the trails are filled with trash. Overall the park is large and there are sections of the park that can be very lively but also very quiet.

Really enjoyed some urban hiking though the Northwest woods. I grew up south of Boston, and it felt like some areas of the Blue Hills. It was much needed fresh air during this time when we're cooped up indoors. I also enjoyed some historic relics, like the Kingsbridge Burial Ground and granite pillars used as winter-condition tests for what would be the stone used to build Grand Central Station.

A gem in the Bronx. Play at sunset. It's gorgeous. Also love how the course is split into parts - almost feels like the way the City is divided. My favorite part is the path that borders the parkway and brings you to the wonderful driving holes at the turn. Great great course.

I have been coming to this diner for over 30 years. They consistently update it. The food is very solid. The chef salad and Caesar salad. Are you enormous. The roasted chicken will last you a minimum of 2 days. And everything's cooked to perfection. There's a reason why this place has been open so long is because the food is very good and the service is also very good

A really big park. There are tons and tons of things to do there. Playing fields and playgrounds are scattered about the park's edges, in the center is a nice forested area. The park is home to the country's first public golf course, the oldest house in the Bronx, and the borough's largest freshwater lake. There is also a bike path named the Putnam trail which stretches a great span of the state.

30 minutes to find out about an interesting part of the Bronx, of New York and of American history. Sometimes it's an eye-opener/ugly reminder to remember that slaves were a part of New York's history too. For the first day that pool open city wide Vancourtland Park was a big disappointment!!!! I got there at 9:15 a.m to make sure that I had a great spot on the line because I was waiting for friends and family so I told them I will get there early. They were supposed to open at 11:00 a.m I saw the workers setting everything up it look positive more people started coming so now we had a line they kids were excited they couldn’t wait to get in the water. I had a news reporter asked me if I didn’t mi d getting interview like they do every year to show the big pool opening in the city. There was someone needing the restroom and a park worker informed her that there was a blackout the day before so therefore all the rest room in the park were closed. Then 15 minutes before they open the pool the supervisor came out to gives us the bad news that they had a busted pipe and they could not put chlorine in the water so therefore they could it open that day. She apologized and proceeded to tells us what other pools we could go to and gave us the office phone number to call the next day to see if they Will be open. This was the first time I had gone to this park and this has happened. Like this is one of the biggest weekends is the Fourth of July 🇺🇸 really then we met someone who works for the city she call 311 to filed a complaint and found out that they had failed inspection and until they pass they can’t open the pool. One of my daughters Friend asked me yesterday if they were open I gave her the office number and she let me know that they were open yesterday. They were not the only pool that disappeared we when to Riverbank State Park and they told us that they were only open for 18 and over for families they would open at 3:00 pm which was a bummer. Then we heard that The Roberto Clemente State Park was also close so we gave up and when home so much for the first day of pool opening in NYC!!

I wish more people would visit this park. It is the 3rd largest in NYC. The only thing I did not like about it was how the golf course cut into the trails. Parts were gated for the golf course which doesn’t even have many people. This is very unfortunate for people who want to walk from the Bronx to the border of Yonkers.

Beautiful clean park! Amazing to run the 5K through. Still the same as it was since a decade ago. Getting there is relatively easily. Was there during the morning! I’m not sure how it is in the afternoon/evening. Great place to run!
