Columbus Park is a great place to hang out and people watch. Nicely maintained park space in Chinatown that makes you feel like you could be in another country. When we came here in the early afternoon on a weekday, there were people playing Chinese instruments, socializing, and sitting around playing mahjong and other traditional games. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

Happened to walk passed it on my way out of Chinatown in June 2022. On the map, no one would be able to tell that a place called Columbus Park would actually be a gathering place for mainly Chinese people and a place to commemorate the work of Sun Yat Sen who fought for China to become a Republic. It was a nice place with a lot of activities. Full of mainly elderly Chinese playing board games and, of course, gambling with no cash visibly changing hands. There were a few Chinese gentlemen singing Chinese songs accompanied by someone on a Chinese flute. Just adjacent to the park was a basketball court where young people of several races were playing together.

GREAT AREA FOR CALISTHENICS ATHELETES!!! Good gathering spot for elderly as well. There are nice views of the surrounding area and the whole place is very lively and has great energy. Park is usually open all the time. Would recommend this hidden gem near Chinatown NYC

It's a cute park, you get to see a lot of locals, mostly older men playing chess and similar board games on the benches and tables there. There's a cool basketball and soccer field. It would be a perfect 5 star if the local crazy crackhead didn't come screaming at us and threatening us. I wish they would do something about her. She ruined such a peaceful day with her nonsense screaming towards absolutely nothing. Oh well. Other than that, it was a pleasant park.

Went to NYC for anniversary trip, this park is in the heart of Chinatown and is absolutely beautiful. There were many people gathered in the park. They have stone tables for games ( not sure what game it was as I did not recognize the board). This park is within walking distance to Canal Street shopping and the best part was there was a public restroom that was rather clean.

Unbelievable to think this was once where five streets came together connecting different immigrant neighborhoods - hence the name “FIVE POINTS” - the most notorious slum in New York City. Our family visited this park on our amazing tour of Chinatown, Little Italy & Five Points with “Thermo Sage” learned so much!!!!!! While visitng this park go get some iconic dumplings 🥟 at “Fried Dumplings” which is just down the street from here.

A nice park where I saw a lot elderly people enjoying a fun retirement life, I think. There people playing checkers and people watching them, joining the fun..There were few people playing musical instruments in one part of the park and I guess people mainly come here to eat whatever food they might have purchased from the shops of Chinatown

Went to NFTBA for a basketball tournament, really great vibe and very interactive. The park was spacious. Really had the New York essence! Good for shooting around and relaxing. One thing be aware of homeless people in the park they can be pushy. Otherwise it’s great for the youth!

Columbus Park is a nice looking Park. What I observed was people from the community socializing even throughout this pandemic! I was also surprised that across the street it’s the Court Houses and the District Attorneys office. I believe that’s the Manhattan detention. I don’t like looking at that building. Who the hell wants to go to jail. !! Besides this this is near Brooklyn Bridge train stop! Beautiful tall buildings. Legal

I love the crowds yet they can rowdy come sundown. Its still safe, clean and enjoyable. The facilities there are decent and has great open spaces to sit, relax and play. Its located near many public transit, restaurants and fast food joints.

If you want to hear some authentic Chinese music, this is the place to go! I really enjoyed the various musicians at the park, it was lovely. Grab a good cup of Tea from any of the surrounding restaurants and take a seat at a bench in the park, bring your kids or Dogs, and you are in for a treat.

HUGE park... in the heart of Chinatown, NYC. Lots of different kinds of play areas for all ages. Great park. Always crowded and being utilized most times. However, the only issue that I would mention is... during the very early hours of morning, and during evenings... some questionable/illegal activities occur.

Beautiful well taken care of park where the locals come to hang out. It’s such a peaceful park full of smiles. And just for some tourists knowledge it’s where “Joe Gatto” from the “Impractical Jokers TV Show” embarrassed himself playing instruments for a fake funeral memorial service lol Also there’s public restrooms available here at this park!

Columbus Park is a little gem. My first visit here and I enjoyed the community feel. Children were playing soccer, others playing instruments and folks were just relaxed. There is plenty of seating and public restrooms.

Run down playground but still fun. Restrooms close at 4pm. Makes zero sense since many kids will play till sundown.

This park is almost always crowded, but it always feels nice to see all the people with various activities; whether it's old people singing, playing instruments, or cards, young people playing sports in the various fields or playgrounds. I always walk the dogs through this cute, well planted park.

A good place to eat pastries and other things from stores and restaurants nearby. When I went there was a nice view of varying trees in bloom that may or may not have been cherry blossoms. Across the street is a place called Jung’s Dried Beef which has some of the best jerky I’ve ever had. Overall the park is great.

A nice, quiet green space to sit and relax in Chinatown. Got in some good conversation and people watching, and no one else really bothered us at all. Could certainly sit here for a while and just take it all in.

It's a pretty fun playground for a one year old to run around for an hour. I love the big kid swings and the slide. My one and half year old girl can't wait to go back each time!

Interesting seeing all the Chinese games happening. But also the toilets were absolutely abysmal and lots of homeless folk loitering in the park bothering folk.

This is the spot I like 2 go 2 and sneak a lil 'Call of Duty Mobile' on my phone in the nice fresh air b4 having to cram into a subway sardine car (lol, they almost smell like it too!) on my journey back into Brooklyn. There's always a place to sit if ur just going there to hang, but most of the people there are there for a reason,.. and the reasons are a plenty, including jungle gyms for the kiddies. Everything's beautifully maintained, w a gr8 landscape in every direction (gr8 job 2 NYC's Park & Rec workers btw.👍🏻). Actually, now that i think about it, it's actually quite large, it's in sections tho, and i always just go by one side so i don't really use the parks potential. Anywayz, what else..... i know that this park has some history 2 it as well, it used 2 b called 'Five Points Park'... i think that's pretty cool. Go, have fun, oh yeah, it's a dog friendly park, just keep ur guy leashed if he's a lil wild or plays rough. I've seen arguments happen bc a friendly pup would accidentally knock a kiddo down, and course, soon as the kid starts crying the parent gets pissed. Just not something I'd want to happen. Again, all around gr8 spot!

Amazing NY Classic. They have one outdoor table thankfully, as I didn't want to bring all my friend's luggage downstairs. Table service, got duck chow fun and boneless ribs. Sets a high bar for NY Chinese food.

While visiting my fiancé in NY I decided to book us a tour of Chinatown. The tour ended in Columbus Park. It’s has a nice history and is really nice. I was sad to hear that the Manhattan jail will be going in just across the street from this park

An amazing park. Large space for various outdoor games such as volleyball, basketball, workout exercises, children play grounds, et cetera. The park also has restrooms that closes around 6pm. But be ready to be welcome with heavy stench of urine. Group sitting areas around the park as well.

This park is not for everyone. It's very crowded (so clearly the park is a big hit with a segment of the NY population) so it's not always easy to find a place to sit. Also, if you are looking for a quiet place to relax and shut out the hustle and bustle (and noise) of NYC, and you are not a fan of Chinese music, this is not a park that will please you.

Took my friends on a little tour of my neighborhood, FIVE POINTS is so famous for the horrific conditions people lived in around the 1800-1900. Gangs of New York came from here... Now Columbus Park is tranquil, lively and a beautiful place now... I come here often to rest for a moment.

If you disregard the early mornings smell of urine in the park it is actually quite nice and calm place in the centre of the bustling city. Enjoyed looking at people playing mah jong or basketball.

Personally, I love the park. It's a nice and peaceful place to relax and have fun. It's filled with the joyful laughter of children on one side and the peaceful music played by the senior citizens on the other end. Its a great place to take a break and clear your mind.

  • 4/5 Luis M. 2 years ago on Google
It's a public park that usually has at least one group of ladies playing Chinese folk music on traditional instruments for some extra income. On non-event days the Pagoda in the middle might have an event going on for locals. Go, Chess, cards, dominoes, and other games are usually going on at the tables. The seniors in the area keep this park clean and use it a lot. The courts and children's playground are also well kept and almost always in use by someone. No one was playing basketball today so the skaters took it over and were practicing kickflips, and other tricks for a while.

The park is great. You see all the old men and women playing cards all day. The park has public bathrooms but they are usually not clean, no fault of the staff as it is a difficult job in NY.

  • 4/5 Matthew H. 1 year ago on Google
Columbus park is an older park with a layout reminiscent of old school NYC playgrounds. The problem is that it has a lot of the problems of old school NYC playgrounds. There are a lot of entrances that are open to pedestrian traffic and may be unsuitable for very young children if left unsupervised. It also has a lot of tripping hazards and lacks many of the newer amenities of other playgrounds. This is great example of how the city spends money on government building in the area, but not for the amenities of the neighborhoods.

Great park with an awesome play area for kids. They also have tons of benches, plenty of shade and it's a relaxing spot to take a break from walking in NYC or eating some good food from Chinatown.

This park has gotten much better from when I was young. New courts, astroturf soccer field, and no more tetanus ridden, splinter machine they had back in the 80s and 90s. One thing hasn't changed though, the smell of urine. The smell of the greatest city on 🌎...

  • 5/5 Cesar Ramos U. 1 year ago on Google
The place has a playground, which was very appreciated. Many locals hang around here and make you feel at home as you would be in Beijing. The bathrooms need cleaning.

Very large park. Takes up the whole block. Has flowers, trees & bushes. Playground area, large playing field, basketball court, large lounge area. Near the court houses & police plaza. Can hear music playing & there are a couple of soothsayers just outside of the park. Places to play chess or checkers. Nice park to hang out in for some peace & quiet.

Well frequented neighborhood park with a lot of serious card games in progress. In the middle of Chinatown and it seems to be the local hangout spot for the older crowd. Local Chinese singing accompanied by traditional string instruments and umbrellas put up by the locals makes for a cozy scene.

Very safe park in the middle of china town. It offers a basket ball court and two parks one for toddlers and one for older little kids.

  • 4/5 Ed H. 1 year ago on Google
A quiet little green space to enjoy a coffee or sandwich. A bit of trash missed the baskets, but not so much as to spoil the setting. Plenty of tables & chairs to offer a bit of rest.
