Great park, you can bring your own bike or rent! Also a good place to get some steps in, bring a hat and sunglasses because there’s not much shade except by the ports. If you get lucky, you can see the bunnies!

This park is for total nature lovers. Not much else to see besides beautiful green and seascape. Hang out with by the seaside on the umbrella-table-bench, bring your snack box and just relax and enjoy the serenity. Free parking available and portable restrooms on site... All free.

This is a hidden gem. I went today because I saw this while driving on the highway and felt like I should check it out. This place is serene, clean and quiet. I must say that it is hard to find the parking lot. The park opens from 8am to 6pm. And perfect for biking, walking, running and short hike. Highly recommend!!! I went for 90 mins of hike and it’s all worth it.

It's a superb place for hiking, biking, roller skating, and jogging. All in the fresh air. You can either do all of the above mentioned on a paved surface or rocky terrain. Be sure to hydrate. Once you leave the parking area and head towards the fountain trail you will be gone for an easy 3 hours. I wore my sauna suit and enjoyed my workout.

Beautiful walks. Borrow a bike for free right at the park and bring a picnic. You can’t even see the city. Lots of cool birds if you like bird watching.

An expansive and well needed respite from the bustle of Queens and Brooklyn. This relatively new park provides gorgeous vistas of the city, the Jamaica Bay, and planes arriving/departing at JFK/LGA. The Fountain Ave section is my favorite as it’s much larger and less busy, though it tends to close earlier, so try to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset or so. I haven’t noticed any bathrooms, but there are portable toilets near the parking lots and some at Penn Pier that are relatively clean. Also, there’s very little shade given the nature of the, well, nature, so bring the sunscreen and plenty of water if it’s warm. I personally prefer visiting on cooler days and in the late afternoon or early morning. My primary critique of this park is how inaccessible it is to those without a car/bike, but hopefully that changes soon. Visit if you can!

A Refreshing Escape at Shirley Chisholm State park Visiting Shirley Chisholm State Park was an absolute delight and a breath of fresh air. As an avid nature lover, I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend a peaceful day away from the bustling city. From start to finish, the experience was nothing short of wonderful. Upon arrival, I was greeted by well-maintained trails that meandered through the park's lush greenery. The park offers a variety of trails suitable for all fitness levels, from leisurely strolls to more challenging hikes, providing something for everyone. The trails are clearly marked and well-maintained, ensuring a safe and enjoyable journey. The park's natural beauty is simply breathtaking. As I explored further, I encountered picturesque views of serene lakes and vibrant wildflowers that added a splash of color to the landscape. The abundance of wildlife was a pleasant surprise, with birdwatching enthusiasts having a field day spotting various species. Facilities at the park were top-notch, including clean restrooms, picnic areas, and ample parking. The park staff were friendly and knowledgeable, providing helpful information and recommendations. Shirley Chisholm State Park truly offers a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a fitness enthusiast, or simply seeking tranquility, this park is a must-visit. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable outdoor experience

Try heading west to the tranquil and serene environment of Shirley Chisholm State Park in Brooklyn. This location is an absolute hidden jewel. You will be pleasantly surprised to find some great scenic views along the winding trails. Pack your hiking boots and a light lunch to enjoy on the pier or any other neatly prepared sitting nook. The parking lot is a bit tighter than I expected. Try getting there about 4pm when the crowd begins to thin out.

It’s a beautiful, different park than I’m used to. Lots of paths with rubble that might be great for running. And it leads to a nice fishing spot! Some cool amenities like the bike library to check out!

If your looking for something that’s in the backyard of Brooklyn look no further, although there isn’t trees to provide you shade there’s lots of beautiful birds you can see so bring your binoculars and if your into exercise this is also a good workout. They have a pier that it looks like you can fish off of and I believe there’s bikes you can rent for the day with plenty of benches and water stations when you first come in. Not a big parking lot but since it’s a local state park you could finish fast. Good to see us trying to give back to Mother Earth

It is a PARK here in Brooklyn so it deserves 5 stars for existing. Knocking one out for gravel roads (no flip-flops here), some noise from the belt, and no shade (I would not attempt it on a hot sunny day). Took me about 20 min to walk around the large loop. Nice views from the top, beautiful birds, saw a hare, did not make it to the pier but looks good. Plenty of picnic tables and benches. Great for plane watching also. Parking by entrance.

A beautiful two part conservatory with chances to spot rare New York animals, beautiful sunrise and sunsets. They have two piers that face each other and you may fish on one of them. In the second part you can skate or ride and even rent bikes if you don't own one!

Love this park. and its views. There are two separate entrances. Free bicycle rental can be reserved online. Paved and gravel paths. If you are lucky, you might spot water fowls and rabbits 🐇 . There are no shaded trees, so it's hot when the sun is high. There are picnic tables with benches with umbrellas (never seen it used). FYI, the park closes at dusk.

Still a work in progress, Shirley Chrisholm State Park is located in Brooklyn within easy reach of the city by both car and bicycle. Spacious parking lots are provided for the automotive visitor, while the many bike paths within the state park itself welcomes bicyclists of most fitness levels. Hiking trails, of course, zigzag the park making this a heaven for hikers. Bird watchers and hobby fisher people will also enjoy this gem of a nature reserve. Open from early morning, i.e. 9am, until nightfall, the lush greenery of Shirley Chisholm State Park is best enjoyed during daylight hours.

A blueprint for rebirth built about acres of toxic dump bringing an outdoor respite and recreation to an area in need of escape. You are transformed to a state park far from the urban landscape and highway surrounding the park. Check out the Bike Library providing completely free cycles to anyone to enjoy the vistas from the former trash peaks to the piers.

Apparently, it used to be a landfill, but by far, this has to be the better of NYC State parks where you feel like you're actually out for a hike and not just a long walk.. you can also bike. they rent out bikes during the warm months. Went on a weekday morning park was for empty for most of it.. This park is a hidden gem even tho it sits next to the Belt pkwy lol. If you hike both sections of the park and hit every trail plus the main path on the outskirts, you can get in 7+ miles. Wide gravel trails and a paved path. There are plenty of signs to direct you. Lots of benches, tables, and garbage cans along the way. Couple piers I believe you can fish off of one. Some great views. I knock the one star off because there is limited parking, and as far as State Park amenities, you're pretty limited, no ball courts, no grills, and almost no natural shade. I only saw Porta- potties. Could use some more evergreens along the northern trails to block out some of the traffic, and some sort of small boat launch for like canoes or kayaks would be pretty cool. Could also use some of those workout stations or pull up bars. Overall, it's a great NYC state park. Will be back.

Great place to fish. Would recommend coming early, unfortunately the park opens at 8am. Great place for a hike and once you follow the trail you will find a pier where you can fish and other fishermen are really friendly. Got one catch for the day, was really great meal.

Went here 10am on a weekday in December. Lovely and quiet. The place is clean and all the trails are very well maintained. Even in chilly temps, there's still some peregrines and water fowl around to watch. Go up the trails to higher ground for great views of the bay, surrounding areas, and Manhattan skyline in the distance. Other notable things: no pets, seemed like all the bike rentals were closed, many porta pottys and they were relatively clean, and it was nice to see many seating areas.

Incredible park for running, walking, and casual biking. Great water views, a large pier, but if you have a stroller, realize that the 3 mile loop trail is NOT entirely paved so bring the GT

Nice park to take your family to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. No pets are allowed. The park has two sides. Fountain Avenue leads into one side for walking running and cycling. Pennsylvania Avenue side to me is more family oriented. Show your ID and you can get a bike to ride on any side. Visit and enjoy.

This park is amazing, and it’ll have something for everyone. It offers stunning views of the city and overlooks beautiful Jamaica Bay. Hiking, fishing, birdwatching and more awaits you here. There’s plenty of secluded areas and picnic tables. It also offers some of the tastiest gravel trails for off-road cycling, a treat considering how close it is to the hustle and bustle of the inner city.

This park is awesome. It's full of trails, picnic tables, colorful signs that tell you all about the wildlife that's, there bathrooms, a yurt & a peer for fishing. The signs let you know exactly where you are, so pick up a map at the entrance and go explore. The only down side, the trails are full of pebbles, so wear your most comfortable shoes and happy trails.

Family friendly park. Lost of gravel and dirt paths, so wear shoes or footwear that you don't mind getting dirty. There are seating areas without the gravel but I only saw one area like that. All in all a good place to take the kids or go for a walk. There is also a pier being constructed and I am excited to return once that is open. Be aware that there is 2 sections of the park. Bring food and spend the whole day out!

Nice place for family and biking. The park has two sections that are accessible via the belt parkway exits and are interconnected. If you are biking there some gravel sections. If you are visiting during summer bring lots of water, the park has limited trees, shade is limited.

Take a ride or hike up to the top of Shirley Chisholm and seemingly step outside NYC. With an amazing 360 view of the city you see Jamaica bay to the south, JFK to the East, Brooklyn, Forest Hills, and all of Manhattan to the North, and the Verrazano Bridge to the west. With food and bike rentals, there’s something fun to do for the day without going too far. Great park for the BK/Queens area.

Our 1st visit was delightful and a perfect way to finish out the summer. Spacious, well marked trails with beautiful wildflowers and water views. Everyone was friendly. Lots of unoccupied picnic tables for people to use. The bike library was free and made it easy to explore. I think it is a fitting tribute to Shirley Chisholm!
