Very nice island to spend the day biking or just walking with friends and family. Very nice spot for sightseeing specially taking the tramway to access the island. There’s a lot of history and it’s a very interesting one. They have some restaurants, coffee shops etc around the island. Very good place for a picnic as well. There’s also access by subway, not only the Tramway.

A wonderful small island between Manhattan and Queens! The island is usually not busy and pretty chill and comfortable with a wonderful community and neighborhood. Every April, the cherry blossoms here is super amazing. You can take the Roosevelt Island Tramway (cable car), ferry or the F line subway to arrive the island with public transportation. I would say this is a must visit place when you arrive in NYC and want to have a great view of Manhattan East and LIC!

A must visit of New York City. So many options to come and visit, whether you bike or walk across the bridge or take the Roosevelt Island tram from Manhattan, or take the subway, there are so many great ways to enjoy the views. A very unique piece of both history and a way to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Manhattan. Great views, lots of people leisurely strolling around. Citibike share was extremely helpful to get around.

We visited this island during our recent trip to New York City. We took tram to the island. You can enjoy aerial view of the bridge, city and east river. Once on the island we rented bicycle to go around the island. Bike rentals are available right next to tram station. Great place for picnicking and to enjoy New York city Skyline. On the way back we took a ferry to wall street. That was also enjoyable ride.

A nice little island to visit and explore. There is a cat sanctuary, an old medical lab, a smallpox hospital and a Roosevelt memorial. Lots of benches overlooking the water. It would be nice place for a picnic.

Such a nice island. It’s sad that not many people know about it, not even New Yorkers, but honestly I think this is why the island is so nice and calm. You can really feel like it’s a total different vibe from the center of Manhattan or Queens or Brooklyn. Perfect for families, pets and runners

It is a nice place to go if you want to relax or if you want to see the skyline. There are a few parks as well as multiple historic sites to visit. You can take the train, bus, or tram to access Roosevelt Island. The tram can get crowded, but the island itself is never crowded.

Take the iconic gondola from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island. Its an experience of its own. A great view and you can use your regular metro card.

Definitely worth to visit the island. It's fun both during the day and during the evening when it's dark, to enjoy the lights of Manhattan. Great place to walk around and relax a little from the city's noises. I recommemd going towards Smallpox Memorial Hospital, the views of the city at night are really nice. We went there via the Roosvelt Island Tramway, which is the way I'd recommend to het there for additional thrills.

Great escape from the rush of the city. Perfect place for a nice bike ride, walk and then eat before you leave the island. It was also pretty cool riding the tram.

We went there to see the cherry blossoms. The island was calm in contrast to the city noise. The park was crowded and the blossoms were beautiful. Didn’t get to explode other places on the island though

Roosevelt Island's Hidden Gem Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Roosevelt Island is an absolute delight! Tucked away amidst Manhattan's hustle and bustle, this serene oasis offers a perfect escape. The breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline and the East River alone are worth the visit. Exploring the island on foot or bike through its tree-lined pathways and beautifully landscaped gardens creates a peaceful ambiance. The historical aspects, such as the Smallpox Hospital ruins, add a fascinating layer of intrigue. The Four Freedoms Park is a serene retreat dedicated to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Additionally, the island offers a variety of dining options, including waterfront restaurants. Roosevelt Island exceeded my expectations with its natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and historical significance. It's a haven for nature lovers and history enthusiasts, making it a must-visit hidden gem.

FANTASTIC. A must-see. I had not been to Roosevelt Island for at least a decade and this review is specifically for the southern end of the island which is where the Cornell Tech Center is located. It's a fabulous architectural wonderland with Morphisis' Bloomberg Center (spectacular), the FDR Four Freedoms Park (by Louis Kahn, and Snohetta's super cool Graduate Hotel. I recommend taking the subway (F train) or the tram, I also plan to be back seasonally.

It’s so calm and quiet here, it doesn’t feel like New York at all A great escape and change of scenery if you live in nyc If you are visiting as a tourist, it’s up to you if you want to come here, but as for me it’s not a must see

If you have time the island offers something a little quieter than Manhattan, though you can still hear the noise, lol. Nice for a walk and some great picture opportunities. Take the Tram over if you can.

A quiet respite from Manhattan. It's easily accessible via short subway ride, or even better, the Roosevelt Tramway.

A hidden gem of New York City. Beautiful and peaceful residential place just 10 mins from midtown. Lots or open spaces for sports and social activities. A must visit during Spring & Summer.

This was my third time in NYC, but the very first time I've visited RI. We were very delighted with our visit we planned beforehand, so I advise this itinerary. Take the Astoria Line (AS) ferry boat from Pier 11 in lower Manhattan. That's the starting point, but you can also catch it from other stations in Manhattan and Brooklyn as well (2 stations on both sides - Google the stops). However, I suggest taking it from the starting point at Pier 11 as you will be rewarded with amazing (and very cheap - 3,25 $ pp) city views from East river for around 30 min what it takes to reach RI. Disembark at RI and explore it. Great views of Manhattan skyline, nice walk by the river to the FDR freedom park and smallpox ruined hospital. You can also take the red bus which takes you to the northern tip of RI where's the lighthouse. When finished take the RI Tramway cable car to transfer back to Manhattan, seeing the area from bird's perspective. Count on around 2-3 hours for a memorable visit with a budget slightly over 5$ pp.

Wow, super relaxing, it's an island that I never tire of visiting at any time of the year, hot or cold. The cable car 🚑 to get there makes each view spectacular, then on the way back we do it by πŸ›³ boat from there to Wall Street and it is a tremendous spectacle, I recommend doing it when the πŸŒ‡ is already falling. This time the tour was in search of the Park of the masks as I call it.

The cherry blossoms are beautiful if you go in April. After the Yoshino cherry blossoms, the double cherry blossoms are also beautiful. It is recommended because you can admire the cherry blossoms along with the scenery of Manhattan. You can get to the island by tram, but you can also use a metro card. It is also recommended as a place where you can enjoy the night view of Manhattan.

Roosevelt Island, a place of attraction, from the moment you get on the cable car you have wonderful views on both sides, get off the cable car and board the red island bus which is free and see the places of interest and buildings that have history that You might love to visit, take advantage of the summer days to visit emblematic places in New York

Cool place. Lots of open spaces too on the island. Love the history and seeing the old Smallpox Hospital. Great view of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Oh and this time of year, early November, lots and lots of geese. And it's really cool seeing the underside of the Queensboro Bridge.

I spent my morning here yesterday.I walked from the subway to the lighthouse then along the coastal path to the Smallpox Hospital! The locals seem very nice, helpful. There's a free Red bus you can jump on if you cannot walk far.I discovered a lovely wildlife sanctuary with some kitties and geese, very clean and taken care of! It's in the freedom park,Smallpox Hospital. That building looks amazing,i love how its built, much better with character.Finished with coffee and a tramway back to Lemington Ave.I loved it,a fabulous time out, freedom, coolness of wind and quite picturesque with the crazy clouds! Definitely recommend a visit and tramway $2.75 E/W.....
