I
served
as
a
doula
for
my
client
last
weekend
and
it
was
a
horrible
experience.
When
I
arrived
at
the
hospital
at
around
10
AM,
I
found
my
client
strapped
to
her
bed
with
an
IV,
baby
monitors,
and
the
intermittent
pneumatic
compression.
I
wanted
my
client
to
move
around
and
use
the
birthing
ball
I
brought
her,
so
she
can
dilate
quicker.
However,
her
doctor
claimed
that
because
her
water
broke
she
could
not
get
out
of
bed
(which
is
not
true).
I
have
had
many
clients'
whose
water
broke
and
we
were
still
able
to
do
natural
induction
exercises.
Studies
have
shown
that
laying
in
bed
during
the
entire
labor
will
not
allow
the
expected
mother
to
open
up.
And
that's
exactly
what
happened
to
my
client.
She
never
opened
up
and
baby
was
ready
to
come
out
at
around
7
PM.
She
started
having
heavy
contraction
but
had
only
dilated
to
4
CM.
All
of
a
sudden
the
nurses
all
came,
they
were
rough
with
her
(even
when
I
told
them
to
please
be
gentle
as
they
do
what
they
have
to
do),
they
forced
her
to
move
around
even
while
having
contractions.
Simply
because
they
couldn't
figure
out
the
baby
monitor
on
mom.
(Their
training,
intentions,
and
care
for
the
client
was
questionable).
They
said
the
baby's
heartbeat
was
dropping
and
tried
to
insert
the
internal
fetal
monitor
3
times
and
could
not
attach
it
to
the
baby.
They
were
about
to
try
a
fourth
time
but
I
asked
them
not
to.
They
then
tried
to
work
the
baby
monitor
on
the
mom.
They
finally
got
it
and
the
doctor
said
everything
is
okay
and
baby's
heartbeat
is
normal
now.
The
doctor
left
and
the
nurses
stay
making
sure
everything
was
working
properly.
Then
literally
a
minute
later
one
of
the
nurses
said,
"We
need
an
emergency
C-section
because
the
baby's
heart
is
dropping".
This
was
confusing
to
dad
and
I
because
we
were
just
told
everything
was
fine
by
the
doctor.
I
never
knew
a
nurse
can
out
rule
what
a
doctor
says.
Mom
went
into
an
emergency
c-section
at
around
7
PM
and
dad
was
not
allowed.
One
of
the
nurses
finally
came
to
us
and
told
us
that
mom
had
the
baby
at
7:44
PM.
From
7:44
PM
to
10
PM
dad
was
not
called
to
go
in
the
room.
We
asked
numerous
nurses
for
updates
and
their
information
were
confusing
and
not
matching.
One
nurse
even
told
us
that
there
was
too
much
bleeding
so
they
are
taking
longer
(this
was
never
true).
We
called
admin
to
complain
and
to
demand
an
answer.
The
admin
was
helpful
but
the
cop
then
started
patrolling
the
hallway
we
were
in
because
a
black
dad
and
a
black
doula
were
demanding
for
answers.
It
took
2
hours
for
them
to
call
dad
to
see
the
baby.
That
was
soooo
wrong.
When
mom
was
discharged
they
did
not
have
a
wheelchair
for
her
to
leave
the
hospital
(mind
you
she
had
a
c-section
2
days
ago).
There
was
about
4
c-sections
during
the
time
we
were
there.
I
would
not
recommend
this
hospital
for
labor
and
delivery
for
anyone
(especially
black
women).
