Arriving
by
ambulance
while
in
the
midst
of
a
heart
attack,
I
am
sure
my
experience
is
quite
different
than
the
average
patient
being
admitted
via
the
regular
emergency
room.
Keeping
that
in
mind,
my
experience
was
profoundly
exceptional,
mainly
because
of
their
advanced,
life-saving,
interventional
cardiac
catheterization
lab.
From
the
time
of
911
being
called
when
I
suffered
my
event,
to
being
whisked
through
the
doors
of
the
emergency
room,
being
quickly
and
professionally
assessed
by
a
team
of
expert
ER
doctors
(all
of
whom
worked
in
perfect
unison
with
one
another),
to
swiftly
being
brought
upstairs
to
the
cath
lab,
where
my
heart
attack
was
stopped
in
it's
tracks
via
catheterization
in
a
state-of-the-art
lab,
clearing
the
blockage,
and
placing
a
stent
in
my
coronary
artery,
performed
by
a
highly
notable
team
of
expert
emergency
interventional
cardiologists.
I
am
incredibly
lucky
that
I
was
nearby,
and
all
of
these
amazing
and
talented
people
were
on
hand
and
ready
to
go,
almost
as
if
they
had
been
training
every
day
for
such
an
event
(honestly,
they
probably
do,
and
probably
have
to
do
this
more
frequently
than
I
imagine),
in
the
early
morning
hours
of
a
holiday
weekend.
Within
an
hour
or
two
of
dialing
911,
in
dire
pain,
feeling
as
though
these
were
my
final
moments
in
this
world,
I
was
alive,
well,
and
being
cared
for
by
a
fantastic
crew
of
nurses
in
the
recovery
CCU
ward,
who
closely
monitored
my
progress,
and
tended
to
my
concerns,
including
some
emotional
ones.
I
was
followed
up
and
briefed
once
or
twice
a
day
by
a
panel
of
cardiac
doctors,
including
the
one
who
participated
in
the
actual
life-saving
surgery,
and
explained
everything
to
me
thoroughly.
I
was
discharged,
and
walked
out
of
the
hospital
on
my
own
two
feet
about
72
hours
after
the
event.
I
only
took
off
a
star
because
of,
you
know,
hospital
food.
Spotless,
amazingly
clean,
life-saving,
friendly,
attentive,
professional,
and
state-of-the-art
are
just
a
few
of
the
words
I
should
also
add.
I
know
everyone's
experience
may
vary
greatly,
depending
what
brought
you
to
the
hospital
in
the
first
place,
but
this
was
mine.
Just
a
tip,
for
some
of
the
negative
reviewers,
if
you
are
just
sorta
'sick',
maybe
an
earache,
or
a
toothache,
or
such,
perhaps
an
urgent-care
center
would
be
more
appropriate
for
your
condition,
rather
than
tying
up
the
vital
services
of
a
Level
1
Trauma
Center
and
Emergency
Department.
Enjoy,
and
be
appreciative
of
these
professionals
who
work
tirelessly,
and
most
often
thanklessly,
to
save
lives.
