Do you have kids who think fire trucks are cool? Do you secretly want to be a firefighter? Do you want to learn about fire safety? Do you like supporting local institutions? Then you should visit. Inside is: a fire truck, cut down to fit the space but fun to sit inside and see the different parts. A wall full of firefighting equipment and patches from various firefighting units. A room for fire safety demonstrations that looks like a burned out tenement. A gift shop with lots of toys and t shirts. A visit on a weekday morning meant the space was blissfully empty and I spent about an hour and a half playing and perusing. The space is FREE and predominately does field trips to teach fire safety, so I would steer clear during school trips. The fire zone is run by retired firefighters and donations. Great for locals, tourists, and every kid who has ever marveled at a big red truck.

Incredibly interactive and hands-on experience - and FREE?! The retired firefighter who led our tour really went out of his way to answer all of our questions. We had fun! Must go if you have kids!

Great shop, cool and unique selection of FDNY gifts. Google maps took me to the wrong place first - may be just me. Across from tsuro ton tan near corner of 6th and avenida de los americas.

Cool lace dedicated to the amazing NYFD, their history and some of how they operate today. The firefighters present were helpful to answer questions and seemed genuinely happy to take photos with kids and adults as well as explain their jobs. Super awesome to see something dedicated to the brave men and women, first responder, fire fighters of any city and especially NYC.

Lovely little shop all about the FDNY. Lots of FD things to buy great as souvenirs and thus supporting the FDNY. I would have missed the place entirely if it was for a kind gentle man outside who explained what this place was! I think a definite must see

Kids and adults alike, this place is a must visit, even for a few minutes. There is a lot of nice merch to purchase, as well as a nice showcase of the different types of vehicles donated to the store by the FDNY. There is also a life size fire truck that has been modified for children to get in and explore.

Modifications/ improvements have been done since our last visit, 2 years ago. The retired firefighters are always kind to the little kids and do an excellent job explaining and answering the kids' questions. Definitely the place to have the fire safety conversation started.

Disappointed to be fair , as a firefighter myself I found the staff pretty bored and rather look at their phones , tried to speak to a white shifted possible captain he just ignored us , the only reason it got 3 stars is the saving grace the young lady who was in the shop today pretty engaging and actually wanted to be their , she would get 5*s The only reason we went back was due to a sizing issuec

Had a great time visiting with my 5 year old and 8 month old. Obviously more to do for the 5 year old but the baby enjoyed looking around. George who was working was amazing and made it very fun and interactive for my son. The fire simulator was really neat and there was a lot of great merch to purchase as well.

Great little place for kids to explore and learn about fire safety. All the firemen and firewomen were warm and welcoming to is. My little one really loved exploring the fire truck with her friends. We can't wait to see what the new space is going to be like.

We went there about 3 days ago with my boyfriend. The seller (a young girl with brown hair) was very mean, rude and gave us a racist comment. It seemed like our presence bothered her and she made it very clear. We came into the store, she didn’t even say hello and gave us a very cold look. We had a little tour of the store and her colleague (an older friendly man at the door) asked “are you okay ?” And she responded “no I can’t stand those people anymore especially the Germans ! They must be Germans !” She said that right in front of us. We said “thank you have a nice day” and we left, she didn’t even respond. By the way, we are French, not Germans.
