A small get away from busy Manhattan. Only few minutes by cable car which during the ride you may enjoy a stunning view of the Hudson River, reach a green and quiet island. With a short walk on the island you can see the breathtaking view of Manhattan towers. The only downside to Roosevelt Island is the limited choices of places to eat something. Beyond that it is highly recommended for a weekend getaway.

If you have some spare time on your hands and are looking for a different New York experience why not catch the cable car over to Roosevelt island. You can use your Metro card to ride the cable car and it takes less than 10 minutes to get from Manhattan across to the island. Once on the island you can take a leisurely walk south to Roosevelt Memorial Park, great views of Manhattan across the East River along the way. Good way to spend a few hours.

Amazing piece of vintage engineering. It is in conservation maintenance and painting. It is not well known as a tourist site, but it is worth walking and taking some beautiful photos. It joins Brooklyn and Manhattan at 60th Street. The Roosevelt Tram cable car passes by.

One of the most underrated bridges to walk across! I've crossed the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg bridges many times, but I always love walking across this bridge. The separated pedestrian walkway allows for some great views of East River and Roosevelt Island.

I am reviewing from the point of a pedestrian crossing. The bridge is beautiful as are the views from it. As a runner however, we found the pedestrian path a bit dangerous with all of the motorized bikes, mopeds, and scooters. They seem to think it is just a 2 way bike path so quite often there were bikes coming straight towards us on the walking side. Stick to quieter times for commuters if you just want to do this for the experience.

The 59th street bridge is objectively the most beautiful bridge in New York. Its spectacular design and views of Manhattan and Queens are unrivaled. You get to walk alongside trains, cars, cyclists and even the Roosevelt Island cute little air tram. I loved walking this bridge 10 years ago. Now its a lot more hectic with motorbikes, bicycles, mopeds and scooters using the pedestrian lane. Its a crazy New York bridge now where you don't know if you’ll make it to the other side in one piece because of all the bikes and scooters zipping by within inches of you. But thats the thrill of nyc! If I wanted a chill walk over a bridge, there are a plethora of options. I will say that since covid, this bridge is not as pedestrian - friendly as it used to be. I love this bridge though! I have been walking it for 15 years and even to this day, I gasp every time I see it. Its just so beautiful 😍

Roosevelt Island is a narrow island in the East River of New York, between Manhattan in the west and Long Island in the east. It is 3.2 kilometers long and has a maximum width of 240 meters, a total area of 0.59 sq. km and a population of 11,661.It was known as Welfare Island until 1973, when it was renamed Roosevelt Island, in honor of US President Franklin Roosevelt. The Queensboro Bridge, completed in 1909, connects the Upper East Side of Manhattan with Queens on Long Island and is crossed by pedestrians and vehicles over the island. In July 1975 the cable car pylons were built and exactly one year later, in July 1976, the “Roosevelt Island Tramway” was put into operation. It includes two cabins, with a capacity of up to 125 people each, moving in both directions at a speed of about 26 km/h. The cable car covers a distance of 940 meters in 3 minutes, making approximately 115 trips per day. Its maximum height reaches 76 meters above the East River and follows the north side of the Queensboro Bridge, offering a panoramic view of the east side of central (Midtown) Manhattan. Although designed as a temporary solution, the cable car soon became very popular and remained the exclusive means of connecting Roosevelt Island to Manhattan until 1989, when the 63rd Street subway was completed.

There are two ways to cross the bridge: waking or by tram. I used the tram. It takes less than five minutes for the ride but the queue may take a while depending on the crowd. Views can be seen from the tram if you stand by the side, front or back. The tram is affordable and is highly recommended for some amazing views.

Take the trolley across the bridge as it will give you access to incredible views of the city below. Great for pictures and very efficient just to get across!

Love it or hate it, the Queensborough Bridge is an essential part in the life of a New Yorker. If you're arriving from Laguardia or John F Kennedy Airport and you want to avoid paying a toll to enter Manhattan, this is the bridge that you will tell the taxi driver to use. It has great views of Midtown Manhattan, but it is often congested. I've been stuck on it on more than one occasion. The best views of the bridge are usually from the Roosevelt Island Tramway, but there are also some good vantage points from Long Island City.

It’s a bridge. I’ve never been over it myself but might I just say that I think it’s a very fine looking bridge, quite pleasing to the eye and really looks at home bring ambiance to the area. It goes over Roosevelt Island which I know has trash tubes, I think it’s like the only place other than Disney World to use them, pretty interesting.

Cool bridge to walk or ride over from Queens to midtown Manhattan. Great view of the Roosevelt Island when you get yo the middle of the bridge. Nice perspective viewpoints from high up. Just watch put for those electric scooters and the food delivery guts on their electric bicycles. Narrow walking or jogging path for pedestrians.

We took the tram over to Roosevelt Island. It's just a 3 1/2 minute ride with a great view of the East River. The gate was $3.25 each way.

What a fun landmark to see, it's only $3 to go across the tram, we had a really warm day, and the ferry was awesome to get you around from one end to another, beautiful structure. 😍

Worst bridge in Manhattan. If you value your life, NEVER TAKE THIS STUPID BRIDGE!!!!! Takes about 2 HOURS to go 1 mile across.

The kids and I took the walk back home from the city. Great scenic views of the city, Roosevelt Island, the RI Tram, and the river. There were so many cyclists and other pedestrians enjoying the lovely weather crossing the bridge. It felt long, but it was worth the experience.

If you love walking on the bridge to Manhattan to Island to QueensB Plaza. I walked at 8pm and got to the end at almost 9. Be careful if you wanna walk up. There are going to be a lot of people on bikes and motorcycles. But on the ground, it is a beautiful river and you can see so many boats. Walk around the place, peace. You can also go on the Tram, nearby. To enter. You need a metro card!

It is a nice walk, crossing Roosevelt Island with the cable car, which is paid in the same way as the subway. The views are great.

A beautiful bridge, full of NYC history and traffic :) You can admire its intricate engineering if you take the Roosevelt Island Tram (from 59 St and 2nd Avenue, for the price of a subway ride) and then walk under it on Roosevelt Island. Great views of the bridge and Manhattan skyline, especially at dusk. See also Roosevelt Island, Southpoint Park, Cornell Tech Campus, Four Freedoms Park for reasons to make that ride even more worthwhile. You can also take the F train and get out at the Roosevelt Island stop, if you are afraid of taking the cable tram, but please take the tram at least one way.

It has a really nice view. You can click so many good pictures from that side. It looks surreal. I went there in the afternoon and I will recommend you to go there in the morning time if you want to click good pictures.

I give this bridge a solid 3 stars. Its not bad but its also its not the most grand. As for traversing it by foot or bike, it gets the job done, not too much foot traffic. The view of Queens or Manhattan (depending where you are coming from) is nice. The design is cool but its just not at the grandeur of some of the other bridges in this city. I prefer it over Manhattan Bridge for safety reasons but overall this bridge is just a good bridge in terms of crossing over. Can't really complain. It gets the job done and if you're in the upper east side or Long Island City trying to go to and from, its a very convenient bridge.

New York’s underrated bridge. A gorgeous example of a double-decker cantilever bridge built in the 1900’s. It’s best viewed from the Roosevelt Island Tramway.

A grand bridge that crosses from Queens to Manhattan. It does feel like it is going to fall apart as you drive over it. You can get some magnificent views of it from Roosevelt Island.

Wow! This bridge is the best bridge I’ve ever been through when I come home from visiting my family in New York City. This bridge is a great gateway to Times Square and to New Jersey for anyone visiting from New York City or arriving from the John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The Queensborough Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge, is an iconic landmark of New York City. Completed in 1909, this cantilever bridge stretches over the East River connecting Manhattan and Queens. As a frequent user of this bridge, I can confidently say that it is not only a beautiful structure but also a highly functional means of transportation.

Very nice, quite, green and beautiful place for a city walk. The tram ride was amazing!!! You can use your metro card:)

It's a lovely old bridge, yes it's not as iconic as the Brooklyn Bridge, but I personally think it's just as nice looking, quite rugged but it has its charm. It's a brisk 3/4 mile walk to cross if you fancy it, or you can get a taxi....

Fantastic spot for pictures or just sightseeing. If you have something to talk about with a date or someone, definitely recommend passing by here. Pretty empty since there aren't much people at night.

This is a neat bridge to walk, however, remember that the pedestrian walkway is on the lower level and you will inhale all the exhausts from the vehicles on the top level. Not the best place to run, hold your breath as you walk it...

A great bridge to view especially from Roosevelt island. You can walk across the bridge but the view is not the best. I would recommend going on the cable car which give you great views of both the city and the bridge.

  • 5/5 Michael B. 1 year ago on Google
Well worth the walk across, just watch out for the cyclists, some great views, the Tramway is definitely worth doing also, but only goes to Roosevelt island

  • 5/5 Mark C. 2 years ago on Google
I can't even say that I went across it. All I did was take the tram over to Roosevelt Island and go to the waterfront and look around. But that bridge plays a huge role in the scenery at that point and it is magnificent to look at.

It's also known as the 59th Street Bridge, and it connects Queens and Manhattan. It's a beautiful, not that popular bridge but, personally, I think it's one of the most photogenic ones
