👍👍 Really great "secret spot" type beach, lots of aquatic life on the shores, hidden paths, sand dunes, marshes and streams. Coming here during low tide is amazing. The water depth doesn't change for a while, you can walk all the way out into the ocean a few hundred feet from shore and you'll still be... People often mention beach, water, parking, great, Nice, small, nice, people, trash, clean,

Really great "secret spot" type beach, lots of aquatic life on the shores, hidden paths, sand dunes, marshes and streams. Coming here during low tide is amazing. The water depth doesn't change for a while, you can walk all the way out into the ocean a few hundred feet from shore and you'll still be ankle deep. There are no lifeguards so if you decide to swim, do so at your own risk, but it's not too dangerous overall, the water is crystal clear, there no underwater deopoffs, there are some currents and there are some water skiing nearby, but if you're careful and don't swim past where you can't reach the bottom you should be fine. If you hate traditional beaches and prefer something more natural or just like exploring and observing aquatic life this is the place to go.

Summer time I going again . Today , I visited this beach today for the first time on the recommendation of a friend. The best part is that it’s very convenient to our home in Brooklyn. Coold day today but It was not too crowded, which was good since we are still dealing with Covi “ in nyc. All was wearing masks but we were all much farther than 6 feet apart. There is not much parking however Parking was free at least. There were waves but they weren’t too high howhewer . All the dogs we saw were on leash.

Free parking, easy access from Belt Parkway, but this place isn't good for swimming - dirty beach, no lifeguards ... It's just good for short walking , especially with dogs 🐕 😉

Plum Beach is a small little beach tucked away on the Belt Parkway. It is run by the federal government as part of Gateway National Park. It has long been a place where the Gay community cruises for sex. For the most part that is pretty discrete. The beach is beautiful and there are often wind surfers there with beautiful kites. The water is very shallow for more then 200 feet out. This is a breading place for the Horse Shoe Crab. and you will find many dead ones on the beach. There are dunes from which people rest and relax and catch the ocean breeze. There is a family area. There is a small parking lot which closes at 9pm. There are no real facilities or rest rooms. Lately the hipsters have discovered this beach and have tried to take it over. I am not sure the locals like this. Someone took it upon themselves to build seating along the doons with driftwood. I could sit there for hours and enjoy the quiet place. If you walk across the bridge along the Belt Parkway, there is a second part of this Beach which is secluded. Remember: Nudity is not allowed on these beaches, you must cover your junk. In the early spring as the flowers are blooming, the Wisteria plants there are in full bloom. They hang for all the trees on the bay side of the beach and are so beautiful

A great place for a healthy walk, bike ride, jog or a stroll. People are friendly and maintaining respectful distance. There are lots of markers by the side of the path to help you keep track of where you are. We were really delighted to find many picnic tables here and there, most of them with umbrellas.

Nice low key beach. It’s about a 20 minute bike ride from Nathan’s on Surf Ave. highly recommend it cuz it’s more private and less busy. Free parking is only a 3 minute walk to the shore. I took my bicycle there and it was a very scenic ride

Came here looking for sea glass. It’s a great spot—the tides are likely bringing in old trash from Dead Horse Bay. (And likely trash from elsewhere, which is a shame, the reality of any city.) I don’t know that I would swim here, personally, but for some hiking and sifting through sand I thought it was excellent. Because I came before Memorial Day the bathrooms were locked—and the porta potties we’re not usable. I did pass it in a Lyft late on a Saturday night. It’s either a great lot for drivers or continues to have a seedy use—which is not my business, since I’m not generally hunting for glass at night.

Took a school group (2nd and 3rd graders). The location is way far to the edge of Jamaica Bay, but we had a knowledgeable, patient guide, and the area offers several different environments - beach, lagoon, wetlands, and myriad life forms. A lot of walking through deep sand, algae/mud, rushes laid down for walkways... Much to learn and observe, very engaging and different.

I come here every summer. This is my first day since Covid. What the heck happens??? It’s filthy. Garbage pail is over flowing. The beach hasn’t been cleaned. Empty beer bottles and plastic everywhere. So sad.

Manage your expectations. This is not a vacationy beach. This beach is good if your happy simply by being by water. I went there post labor day on a sunday morning with my dog. It's a long beach so I explored 3 different areas.

Great nature habitat but an abundance of illegally off-leash dogs with little to no enforcement. Have been bit by a dog here, requiring me to get shots.

This beach is filthy, garbage everywhere why can people just learned to picked up after themselves. Shame on you for leaving garbage behind! It’s really not that hard to carry your garbage to a nearby trash bin.

I lived near there and jogged along the path in the early 90s. It was more a garbage dump than a beach then. Good to hear they cleaned it up somewhat. But all that pollution from the cars on the Belt....probably healthier to take up smoking.

Nice place and peaceful the only bad thing is that people don’t have respect with their dogs, no everyone has dogs and I love dogs but if your dog is irrespectful you need to have them lash or take them to any other side of the beach where people are not arround. Is disgusting have a dog jumping near you or also walking by your stuffs if is not your dog. People should show a little respect to others

I really liked this beach! Seaweed at edge of water made it a little yucky to get into, but low tide allowed you to walk out far with water at knees. Not rough waters either. Limited parking. No lifeguards. Saw people BBQ on beach near grass edge. Restrooms were not open/available. Not sure if they had showers.

So I love that it’s small and sort of hidden, but like most things NYC these days, the Parks Department could do better at the up-keeping of such little property. Should arrive early if you expect parking. Dog-friendly, and kite flying too. The water needs some cleaning up. Nice but needs improvements.

I've visited this beach a few times, I can say it is a very kid friendly beach and a great place to relax! If your looking to catch some waves with your surfboard or bodyboard this isn't really the place, the water clarity and color is very mediocre as well as the sand not being very nice. More of a recreational beach for just hanging out and bringing your kayaks or boats more than a place to swim.

nice private-esque beach. There’s free parking although it’s a small lot. took one star off due to the only bathrooms on site are Porta potties which were the most dirtiest ones I’ve ever seen in my life

The beach is small but covered in sea debris and horse show crab carcasses. However it’s still a great beach. It’s a windy point which makes it ideal for kite surfers. Which is nice to watch. The first heat point close to belt pwky is extremely tidal so is not always accessible. However it still is a great site to see. Once the water goes down, the marsh is exploitable by foot and you can see the wildlife and natural pools. Awesome experience. Bathroom access is almost non existent. The porta potties are FILTHY. So if you have to poop, good luck.

Decent beach located just off the Belt Parkway. It’s a bit dirty (especially the parking lot) and the water is certainly not the cleanest, so be extra wary about swimming here. It does, however, offer a nice view. Certain times of the year you’ll see dozens of horseshoe crabs washed ashore.

This is lovely beach on sore need of some T.L.C. Unfortunately, it is not currently staffed and people have left a lot of trash behind. Otherwise, very nice spot for small kids, waves are very manageable. Lots of wildlife, horseshoe crabs, snails and fish.

The narrow beach, grassy dunes, and shallow swimming area are lovely. However, the parking lot is a scene from the apocalypse. Dirty does not describe it. I'm talking filth, feces, road rage, drug paraphernalia. We visited a week ago and my mind is still boggled.

It's summer. I'm leaving again. On the advice of a buddy, I went to this beach for the first time today. The best part is how close it is to our Brooklyn home. Today was a cool day, but there wasn't much of a crowd, which was fortunate given that Covi is still an issue in New York. Although we were all wearing masks, we were much more than 6 feet apart. Although there isn't much parking, it was at least free. Although there were waves, they weren't particularly large. The dogs we saw were all restrained.
