My 3rd favorite beach in NYC, it’s such a family vibe that makes you feel like you are elsewhere. It’s like a Long Island beach meets Manhattan beach vibe. The sunsets here are incredible and there is a lot of activity available, basketball courts, golf course, bike paths, etc! Lifeguards on duty at this beach

I know this beach is LGBT friendly and I have nothing against it, but topless women walking around children is overkill. It's de not a nudist beach though. With children, I recommend visiting in the morning, in the late afternoon there are too many loud drunken companies.

Historyc beach the view is beautiful , this government preserve park . The beach has been busier over the past couple of years , because of more advertisement , it's very nice , clean , well-patrolled , and peaceful . There is always something happening . Whether it's some sort of a sports or bar and live music . There is are food trucks and restaurants that come out there to feed people , and I know that , the cocktails are pretty awesome as well . The beer is 35 flavored is available . Friendly staff and attentive . Parking is lots of places , always busy because live in - out . The security service is working .

We love Jacob Riis Beach! The parking is really easy if you get there in the morning but by noon there’s a line to get in. The bathrooms are clean and there’s a playground for the kids. Part of the beach is closed off for restoration now but there’s still a good amount of space.

My favorite thing about this beach is the inclusivity of bodies and people. It really is the beach for everyone. Get there early for a good spot!

Love this beach! I have been hanging out here every Summer weekend for the past 5 years. Mornings are quiet and relaxing, and you beat the crowd. Bathrooms are decent. The fries at Two Dudes are really good. The food at the Bazaar isn’t that exciting so we just pack our own food and enjoy the day.

Has the best people, best food options, and no NYPD & Trump supporters which you’ll find over to the east side of here! You might get the occasional plane flying an NYPD banner or police pointlessly going along the beach on horses or on boats wasting your taxes away, but try and ignore that and you’ll have a relaxing time

It was a nice visit. A older guy and I got into a long conversation about all of Rockaway over the time. It happened when he heard the Drone and happen to see it for a sec along the Grass along the walk. He was like what kind of bird is that?! After a long LoL! We spoke of everything from the 60's to Sandy to current issues.

Should have a season pass holder line to the parking lot for expedited access. Complete center section of the beach is closed. No food or drink options on east end of the beach. Half of the parking lot on east end is closed Our beach is not what it was . Have been coming for over 30 years. What happened to our beach. For years this was a 4.5+ beach.

Nice clean beach. But the water is freezing cold. They do have lots of bathrooms, but there’s no convenient store. They only have 5 spots to eat inside a little food court. Be ready to pay $18 per person for food there. But apart from that’s it’s nice.

The beach is beautiful and far away from all the noise and the left section of the beach is a queer haven. Love everything about except this year the water was pretty damn dirty.

We went after 5pm. You no longer have to pay for parking after 5. It’s $20 to park for the day. The beach was still pretty crowded, but by 6:00, it started to thin out and there was more room. The beach is well kept up even for as busy as it is. There were several lifeguards at each stand and they were vigilant.

Anytime the weather is 90° and higher this will be the place to be. I mean there's other beaches but I love the views and sites here.

You should visit Jacob Riis Park for its unique combination of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and historical significance. The park's beaches are a great place to relax and enjoy the sun, and the surrounding landscape offers scenic views. It's an excellent spot for picnics, beach volleyball, and other outdoor activities. The historic bathhouse adds a touch of nostalgia, and the park's connection to Jacob Riis' important work in social reform makes it even more meaningful. The beauty of the park, the relaxing beach atmosphere, and the chance to connect with history all make for a memorable and enjoyable visit.

Riis Beach is a true hidden gem in New York City for the sense of liberation and acceptance one feels here. It is beautiful to see all types of people living their best lives so happy and free. I was in the LGBTQIA+ section at the end of the beach and I would comeback here for the community, view, ambiance, and strong waves. Many women are topless and men are scantily dressed. The music is happy pop and I bopped from Britney Spears to Whitney Houston. The water is a bit murky, but the strong waves make it very entertaining. I recommend swimming in front of the lifeguard if you are not a strong swimmer and not going in too deep for obvious safety reasons. There is a food cart and it seemed reasonably priced at $6. I wish I had something to eat before partaking in all the festivities!

Pretty decent beach. Kinda low-key in the off-season but I’ll bet this place gets busy in the summertime! I’d come back again!

Riis is cool for a quick getaway. I went there on Thursday. It wasn't too crowded. The life guards were present. There were a lot of shells that made walking towards the water a bit uncomfortable. Also, the bathroom didn't have much soap, and you need to keep in mind the bathroom times because it doesn't stay open late. Overall, it's cool for a quick beach day.

Huge parking lot right across from the beach. Super easy access. Cost 10$ to park and in the off season it’s free! It’s so convenient and a huge huge space. We let the dog run off some energy here as well as people park and teach their children how to bike ride, roller blade or scoot. Also people seem to park here and walk across the street the opposite side of the beach and fish along the beach. Very cool.

Nice place to spend the day if you are willing to walk or ride your bike from the parking area to the Fort Tilden part of the beach, where is much less crowded and quiet.

Love Jacob Riis Beach! Best times are around 3 o’clock—stay and watch the sunset. Jellyfish are present this August; harmless, but creepy! Parking cost $20.

Favorite beach for the cool New Yorkers. If you are part of the LGBT community, this is the beach for you. Soft sand, clean water and sand, bathrooms and parking facilities. The concrete "boardwalk" needs to be repair. This park/beach was in better shape 30 years ago. The parking has been increased to $20, which it is a bit too high for beach goers. You must bring your own food/drinks, since there is nothing around.

Nice beach. Rough waters. Bring swim shoes because its all shells and rocks on shore/in the water and it hurts to walk. Best to come on a Monday or Tuesday when its practically empty before 12pm

Our favorite beach! Safe place for LGBTQ+ folks. Been going here for years.. Seen a lot of changes. Very popular beach. Would appreciate some bathrooms closer to what is known as the queer section.. inclusive bathrooms for GNC and NB folks. It’s a bit of a far walk to the closest ones and they’re gendered.

At the quiet time of year, NOT between Memorial Day and Labor Day, you can have the place nearly to yourself. The Atlantic rolls in regardless of season and the beach is wide. We can one weekend prior to Memorial Day and it was nearly empty. Very pleasant to walk down the beach. Bring some sandwiches and watch the waves.

Winter beach walk is the most effective and healthy coping mechanism I have found. The immense power and eroticism of the sea and the fresh air are enough to briefly distract me from the crippling question why am I like this. Each time I visit it is different. The waves and wind and light and sand birds have unlimited combinations and all of them are better than my apartment.

This definitely became my most visited spot during 2020 summertime. By bycicle from anywhere in the city, you’ll have the chance to enjoy, either a quiet area where to enjoy a good reading, or a more fun spot at the end of the bay with hot guys all over around.

Love it! It was absolutely worth the drive. It took us one hour and 45 minutes from Philadelphia. There was lots of parking, the bathroom was clean, and the beach was clean. We went to section G, and there is only one food truck available. If you are going there, make sure you have food and drinks because you won't be able to get anything there.

Though the temp was significantly chillier than expected, I had a great time at the beach which was quite clean. Parking in the large lot across the street was free!

Decent place to chill. I only go to the beach on weekday mornings and it's always never crowded. Parking isn't free but isn't a problem if you pay once for the whole season. Life guards are always there in case anyone's in danger(of course). Beautiful place, definitely recommend.

Very nice and quiet good for walking. You can sit in the sand and enjoy. also there is a nice kiddy Park with swings and slides. Also a nice basketball court. With Picnic areas (watch out there is some construction going on there on some areas so they won't let you go there)

Great beach with a nice picnic area. Would recommend going super early to secure a spot. Negative star because the cell service is terrible and your expected to buy your parking reservation online. Could not even open the website.

Nice beach with a long sand area to hang and play. You can get there by bus. Could have better structure, tho. There’s no restaurants, no bars, no soccer or volleyball field on the sand,… it’s not a wild beach, mayor could invest a bit more 🤷🏾‍♀️

I spent a day at the park on Labor Day 2020. It is a large park managed by the National Park Services. It is modestly maintained and has the appearance of decline. The last time I visited this park was a few years ago. The parking was adequate, with a reasonable fee of $10. The beach was very crowded, with many people not observing social distancing. I also watched several people going inside the men's room, not wearing masks. The park has a large picnic area, but it is, in my opinion, a little far from the beach and does not have sufficient picnic tables or covered zones to protect from rain or harsh sun lights. There were no garbage containers on the beach. A few garbage receptacles were on the boardwalk, but most of them were overfilled. The beach water was filthy. It has lots of debris and seaweeds floating everywhere. There are some playgrounds but were not sure if they were open to the public at the time of my visit. Thee were several vendors on the beach selling "Icee" ice cream and others offering liquors. None of the vendors displayed a vendor license and there were no apparent enforcement effort to check them out. If you are looking for a better experience at the beach, I recommend Jones Beach or Coney Island.

One of my favorite beaches in New York even without the renovated boathouse which will be open in summer 2024. This beach is easily accessible with parking and bus q35. There are bbq areas, playground and restrooms. Restrooms are clean in the morning but got dirty a bit later in the day before the staff resumed to clean them. The beach has lifeguards is wide and is very family friendly. Lots of families children, very mixed audiences and communities. Very peaceful where everybody is mindful of the other.

No one was there due to the rain, but I loved it. The ocean was raging, whispering and rolling, so relaxing. The parking lot was empty, more spaces for me. Lastly, the playground was empty, and my Grands loved it. I really did not miss the crowd, for I loved the ocean and those fat seagulls .

I found that it was a lot more beautiful during the 70's and now a bit abandoned or neglected, but realistically speaking I do see an attempt to revitalize the grounds. I do hope that it will be achieved because it is one of the beaches in NY that has clear and clean water, and that I consider amazing.

They have put a lot of work into updating this park and it shows. There’s a modern skate park filled with kids learning the ropes, multiple seaside eateries (the arepas folks!) & a lot of great places to sit! Come on a more cloudy day and it’s not quite as crowded (especially into early September). The area is significantly cheaper than the rest of NYC so definitely stock up on groceries here rather than elsewhere in the city. We also met a cool local musician who preferred not to be named (of MF Doom fame). He hangs around a good bit so you might get lucky too!
