NEW MANAGEMENT: Does NOTHING for the customers, and deteriorates the mental health of their employees. Genna and Brittany came from Long / Staten Island in February and completely changed the Manhattan location around. They make employees stand for inhumane amounts of time (and call the store phone to yell at employees when they are sitting, eating, or like I was yelled at yesterday.. for having my sweat jacket sleeve fall off of my shoulder). Genna has told me on multiple occasions she is 'going to kill me' for having my phone on the counter or charging my phone at the counter... no matter what her intention, this is NO WAY to speak to your employees. We aren't best friends. You are my boss. They have reprimanded employees for accepting tips via Venmo and not cash (are we not supposed to get tipped???? When we are slaving away at a MINIMUM WAGE JOB already doing the most?????) Brittany is compassionate and has shown better care for her employees, but unfortunately is still under the reign of her older bully sister. They show customers no care, give no extra free sessions, and have been extremely hesitant to give customers back sessions they lost because of miscommunication with expiration dates, causing people to have lost 11+ sessions... Sure, the salon looks cleaner, but they have created a soulless corporate environment that not even new hires want to be in, so they don't show up for their first shift. I have worked for them in their Middle Village location, in which I was forced to manically quit the same day due to my mistreatment, and once they took over the Manhattan location in February, was led to do the same today as I have had beyond enough of this management, and believe people deserve to know how this place is treating their employees. You are NOT getting what your money is worth at this salon, and if you believe in ANY sort of ethical labor... you're not supporting any of that either.

Beach Bum Tanning union square is one of the best locations I've been and continue to go to. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Mike/Michael works very hard to make customer satisfaction a number one priority along with the rest of the staff. Can get a bit busy in there and everyone keeps there cool making it a calm visit regardless of the variety of clients who come in and out. Highly recommend!!!! Also the tanning bed and other offerings are top notch Great clean salon reasonably priced. Great sunless tanning options. Various colors light to dark. Lasts a good amount of time. On days it's freezing and you need to warm up can always hop in a bed to warm up and get rid of winter blues. Friendly staff

Beach tanning charging stickers to protect your eyes for $1.50 plus tax. That crazy. Under the health code, they are supposed to supply eyewear from radiation. Let's be serious $1.50 plus tax?! Why not .50cents

New management and staff is so awful and rude. Britney at the front desk made me feel so unwelcome, had a major attitude, I decided to not tan. Old staff was so much nicer and kind. Never felt like a burden with them as I did with Britney.

I’m telling you I worked here for a year and the second new management came in I felt like I joined the army. The way they stripped us of no chairs for what reason like for the last 20 years staff was able to sit at the counter and check clients in. Not to mention the time I was clocked out eating a salad in the back room and my new boss (rhymes with Benna) literally made sure to ask me to take the trash out after I’m done eating….she asked me this while I was eating. These girls are just plain MEAN. For no reason. And they will not make you feel welcome I can bet on that. If you need an airbrush though by any chance message me…

You can tell this place has changed management. When you walk in, staff don't have chair to sit in; rather they have to stand all day. That seems cruel. A lot of the old staff members aren't here anymore and they were so nice to interact with. It's not like it used to be and not a pleasure to go to anymore. Shame

I've never been to a more unwelcome place. And, making conversation with the staff, it seems like they make the staff stand all day. WHY??? Really weird atmosphere there. Pass

I’m a bit addicted to tanning and I come here a lot. The staff is absolutely amazing. Always friendly and they remember my name. With the number of people that they see daily that is no small feat. The beds are always clean and there are plenty of options. I come to tan but the staff is what makes the experience great.

Besides the fact that they always make it sound like you’re getting a deal because it’s a special time window, which is so not true and kind of annoying, staff is always nice and place is clean. I recommend it.

I gave five stars because of the excellent staff and management, they are caring and provide great customer service. The hours and location are perfect, especially when everything else closes early since the pandemic. The beds here, for some reason never give the desired brown golden tan I’m accustomed to.

The old staff was so warm/happy/chatty, everything fully stocked and I always felt taken care of- this was my go-to spot. These days the vibe is off. It looks like the staff is in pain from having to stand all day (seems unnecessary). Retail items like sandals, bracelets, and beach blankets scattered around...but no essentials like wipes.. q-tips.. even hair-ties or spray deodorant would be a thoughtful touch. Instead of a nice/gentle baby wipe, they hand you a purell alcohol wipe..I guess better than nothing... but when I went yesterday they didn't even have those so now my cuticles look just lovely. ;) Feels like management checked out, so I'll be doing the same.

Arrive early. It literally takes ages to check in. So; 15 mins to check in. 10 mins to tan.

This is one of the worst beach bum locations I’ve been too. I’ve been to at least 3 different locations in NJ and can say hands down the NJ locations are much much better than this NY location. In this specific location, the staff was not aware of the % of reddening vs bronzing on the different levels of machines like they are in other locations. In other locations they show pictures of the machines and the levels so you know exactly what you are getting. I purchased a single diamond level tan , which is supposed to be ALL bronzing , and was red a couple of hours after the tan. (This is not typical for my type of skin). Paid for a top tier bed , and was clearly put in a lower tier bed. Would never go here again. Aside from also not even having the protective goggles , they don’t even have the stickers you can put on your eyes for protection like ALL other beach bum locations.

Paige is incredibly kind and helpful! I really appreciate that she takes the time to explain all options to you, without overselling. When I walked in, she was breaking down packages and prices very patiently for a client on the phone, and then also walked me through the process- it’s really nice to feel someone’s genuine care and attention to detail!

Always super nice friendly staff in all Manhattan locations! Not judging anywhere else, have only visited upper east, union square and 23rd &7th and the staff in those locations are professional, knowledgeable about tanning and very friendly. In respect to the reality of 2020... There seems to be extra sanitation, everyone wears masks and as someone who takes the virus seriously and was nervous to go back...i have felt very comfortable and safe every time I've visited BBT post covid- keep up the good work guys 💕💕💕

Don’t use BED 15! I bought a “diamond” top level package for over $100+ and used Bed 15 and the fans were broken and the lights had Duct Tape holding them together! Got out early. Nice staff, but will not use the bed again, hope I can get my session back.

Avoid. Shady as hell. I purchased three tanning sessions, used one, and then came back a few weeks later and was told the other two had expired, something I was not informed of when purchasing. The front desk person was useless in helping resolve the issue, and obnoxious to boot. I’m filing a formal complaint with the owner. For what it’s worth, a few bulbs were out last time I visited. This place is a shadow of what it once was. There are many other options in the area, and I recommending trying those first.

Facilities okay, but the packages are a scam — sold aggressively, without spelling out that they expire in a month.

Best tanning salon in NYC. Room #10 is a 10! Make sure you have a bit of a base tan, but every bed is great! Paige, Dante - thanks so much for your help. So happy I found a place to de-stress in the neighborhood…packages are the way to go here!

Great experience. Love the staff. Hopefully one day they will have chairs to sit (it is absolutely ridiculous to see they stand all the time).

I was very happy to end my relationship with this company today. When they bought out my contract with another tanning salon I accepted it as I had no other option, but the staff at that time was also so great. This salon changed management a year or so ago....and i just find going there was no longer a good experience. They always harrassed me about my sessions that didn't expire which I guess was part of the buy out. I had one non-expiring session today and tried to take advantage of their upgrade promotion today. I was told the upgrade bed is broken and they don't know when it will be fixed. This all on expiring tanning sessions? I pay more and they can't deliver. The guy at the desk, with limited math skills discussing the different options ask me what was my confusion. I told him I'm no longer confused, I'm finding a different tanning salon
