Be Aware! This hotel is shutting down! ... I tried contacting them for weeks to confirm my booking! And nobody answered the phone, what kind of hotel doesn't answer their phone? Well apparently a hotel that is closing permanently. I had to go through a lots of calls trough expedia to be able to receive my refund. So once again BE AWARE! don't use this hotel even if they reopen, they are so unprofessional!.

Overall, not a bad hotel. Room was decently clean and came with a fridge which was a nice surprise. Bed and pillows felt like there was a plastic covering underneath so that was a bit uncomfortable at times and made getting into bed kind of loud. The hotel does require a $60 deposit in CASH which is odd, so come prepared for that. They also made it pretty clear if you lose your room key or check out late, you'll lose the deposit. I didn't want to cause any trouble so I followed their instructions. The front desk experience I had was pleasant; then again, guess it depends on who's there. Otherwise, pretty new hotel...all updated and modern. Hardwood floors in the room and nice tiling in the shower. Water pressure was strong and hot. Thermostat worked great. Other amenities include an ice machine and the subway station is literally across the street which was very nice. No free breakfast due to Covid. I think I'll stay here again depending on the price. The area is a little sketchy, but that's Long Island for you.

Booked months in advance for them to tell me the hotel is permanently closing effective immediately 2 days before my reservation. Huge hassle to find a new hotel with such short notice. Then to learn that it was an excuse to get out of my reservation. Stay away if you don't want to risk your reservation being cancelling and having to find another hotel last minute.

For the price it's an amazing hotel. Clean, and comfortable. There is a $60 cash deposit that was not listed anywhere, but they have an ATM at the lobby. The subway is 10 steps away from the front door and will take you to Manhattan in 10 minutes. The neighborhood is fine, not the best but I came back late at night without any problems.

This is obviously a scam! Made a reservation for this hotel half a year ago. The hotel canceled the booking 3 days before our arrival, supposedly because they are shutting down. They never answered any requests or calls. I have never experienced any hotel acting this unprofessional. Don't ever book here, even if they reopen at some point!!!

*HONEST REVIEW* I stayed here for my birthday from April 8-11 this is a new hotel but it has so much potential the rooms are so cleans and the house keepers really work hard to keep it together they always come by and clean rooms and bring clean towels. It’s so convenient because the subway is right across the street and it’s a few stops away from the the main attractions and shopping centers. It’s a lot of diners coffee and restaurants in walking distance from this hotel it’s a 60$ deposit and sometimes they have issues with reservations so just make sure you call Ahead but overall it’s a good hotel for a decent price in a good area

All around very decent for the price. The location gets you everywhere in Manhattan very fast with the F line at the front door. The neighborhood itself is nothing fancy, but not too terrible. The staff is okay, not fast, but very accommodating. We had 3 bookings in different rooms (was best price wise during our long stay), and we could get a new room directly when checking out the previous. The rooms were clean enough. The room wasn't cleaned while we stayed there. It's exactly what we wanted, not a 5 star review, but it was totally fine for a good price and location!

The worst experience. We made a reservation here, but they cancelled our reservation 2 days before we arrived. We've been fighting with booking, due to the similars options are too expensive. Thank you for giving us a headache 2 days before our vacations😡

Good points : The first room we had was overall clean. The hotel has a great location in NYC. The employee at the front during night is reachable easily. The wifi works very well. The a/c works well in the second room we had. Negative points : There was a bad smell in our first room. The a/c didn’t work in the first room we had, so we had to change room for the second night. The bathroom wasn’t that clean in the second room (found hair the shower). The cleaning of the room is not done every day.

This hotel was super convenient for my trip. It's literally right across the street from the F train that can take you to all the hot spots in Manhattan as well as Queens, or Brooklyn. The rooms were super clean when we checked in and relieving when I saw a clean room after a day of exploring the city. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to the city.

This is the best hotel I’ve stayed at in NYC for such a great rate! I’ve stayed here twice now. Super clean and modern. The subway station is right across the street. I wanted to stay here for my upcoming trip but unfortunately you guys are renovating so there was no rooms available. Please finish soon so I can book another stay!

Good location and easy access through the metro. I spent 6 nights at the hotel and NO ONE cleaned my room. I asked several times for room service and even so it didn't happen. Every night I had to ask for new towels and new access key because it didn't work as it should. It was a disaster.

First I would like to say it started off as only 1 day and after we checked in and seen the room we ended up staying 5 days here. The room was a little small but for nyc not bad. Room was excellent had a refrigerator soap and shampoo. I have to say there is not everyday housekeeping at least on my trip they came 1 time but I actually like that as I like my privacy and anytime I need new towels I asked and had no problem from housekeeping . Across the street is metro station could not have more easy accessibility to go anywhere in the city. And decent food Across the street. For the price you would be a fool not to stay here. Especially for the price.

The beds were clean and bathroom was clean. But everything covered in plastic made for a noisy sleep. Don’t understand why there has to be a $60 cash deposit? The remote was broken and we had to have it replaced . The fridge doesn’t work and our drinks and salads went bad. Complained twice and was told “we have to find a replacement” but they never did. We had to keep reactivating our key card because it “expires daily”. Finally on the fourth day the desk made our card program to keep active till our last day. We were staying 6 days! They only picked up trash once. And there was never any maid service or fresh towels/sheets for our entire stay! The front desk guy was rude on first day, rest of days was someone new every day, and they were as kind and accommodating as possible but the maintenance man was the only helpful one! Location was pretty good considering we had the subway right next door and lots of food vendors to choose from .

We booked this hotel because it is centrally located with few steps away from train station. Other than location overall experience was bad. Front desk staff is very rude and doesn't even greet properly. Their attitude is like they are doing a favor by allowing us to stay in the hotel. Rooms are very small like a dorm room. Weed smell in the corridors. They charge $60 deposit in cash which was weird. I noticed customers struggling to manage cash for deposit. Vending machines are not working properly.

This is a very nice hotel🏨. Their room and bathroom is very nice, clean and new. The only downside is their location, is right across from a project. Other than that, is a very good place 👌

I stayed there Friday night. The location is perfect. It’s across the street from the F train and 2 bus stops. The rooms are hella small but clean. Staff was friendly. Be reminded that there’s a $60 cash deposit needed to stay. I don’t understand why that is but it’s their policy. Please confirm how many nights you’re booking because you could come back to your room without a working key and all your things have been removed leaving you without a room. Other than those issues it’s definitely for a solo traveler or maybe a couple if you’re just going there to sleep. Again rooms are smaller than a college dorm.

This place is rude, disgusting, unprofessional, inadequate. If anyone is planning on staying here I do not recommend it. I had to get the police involved. I was denied service because they told me that I was not completed 21 year old (which is stupid). FYI, there’s no such thing as a completed 21 year old; it’s either you’re 21 or 22. Even after being denied by their establishment they still won’t issue me a refund, but lucky my bank was able to correct this incident. Once the the police arrived, the receptionist tried tell the officer misinformation of the situation and paint in an image that wasn’t true. It was a sad sight to see. I highly DO NOT recommend this place for anyone, even if it’s just for one night!!!!.

Don’t book here! I booked many months ahead of time. Just 3 days away from arrival I got a notification email through the booking website that they are cancelling it because the hotel is “shutting down with immediate effect…for further assistance call xxxxxxx-xx”. No actual phone number! I contacted their location and they do not answer or take you to voicemail!

Okay**** JUST NOTE**** You need to give a $60 cash deposit on checking in. You can not use a credit or debit card. It is refunded when u leave. I try not to be negative in these reviews, but, facts are facts. The room was really excellent for the money. Good shower, comfortable bed, clean. The neighborhood, or basically the few blocks surrounding are sketchy. There is nothing but a deli and a Dunkin Donuts. Thank goodness, the F train is directly across the street, so you can go anywhere you need.

4 stars just because there is no parking for the handicap. Other then that the hotel was great everything was nice and clean the room was a little small but for the price what do you expect. We really enjoyed our stay thank you for the great experience 😊

the hotel was really easy to access to the subway, only one block. the Hotel rooms was so clean and quiet. I highly recommend it. I don't know why people is giving a bad review, but I guess they're haters and against success. The only thing that got my attention was the front desk, the front desk they give poorly customer service, but I think they can do better than that.

Extremely nice folks that work here. He noticed that I was out of town so he gave us a room with a spectacular view. Extremely clean room, comfortable bed and pillows. Nicely sized tv with everyone you want on the tube. Bathrooms are also very clean and modern. Only thing that was difficult was finding parking, if you're driving in. Had to park nearly a half a mile away from the hotel! But, that is the city's issue. If staying here I recommend taking mass transit. For the price, you aren't gonna find much better in NYC. Thank you to the very accommodating staff at Hotel 21 NYC, you made my stay very pleasant.

All reviews below are fairly accurate but it gets the job done. I needed a place to stay and it provided that on a brand new building. I am giving it 3 stars because of the plastic on the mattress and pillows. That was horrible. Also the receptionist (woman) felt very hostile, not friendly at all. But our view was great

  • 1/5 Tonnieca J. 2 years ago on Google
The front desk clerk is very rude didn't want to let us check in early nor keep our bags behind the counter we're from a different state so we basically had to carry our bags every where we went then we ask for the manager she didn't want to let us speak to them also didn't want us use the microwave I would not recommend this hotel to no tours unless you feel like getting upset the front desk Clark doesn't want to do anything but she's at work and needs to be fired immediately. Very poor job. Very poor customer service.

The room was clean but the lobby floor was completely flooded and they were using bath towels to soak up the water. Are they going to wash them and put them in the rooms after everyone has walked on them? Also I asked the front desk for washcloths and towels and she told me I'll have to find housekeeping and let them know. And also it is not stated but there is a $60 cash deposit required even if the room is already paid for

The rooms are VERY SMALL. When it rains the lobby floods. The only good thing is they don’t play about smoking. It’s definitely a no smoking facility. They have copies of people’s I.Ds hung up on wall for those who smoked in the rooms and they’re no longer allowed to stay there.

Hello I’d like to tell that the hotel in an overall experience was average/good This is because there is no customer-oriented service at all. The girl at the front desk was really unhelpful I understand your policy for not holding any luggage as you have absolutely no space and do not want to take responsibility for your customers’ luggage while the check in time. I had to pay the early check-in fee, which I consider OK as I was not willing to carry my luggage around the city until 3pm. But what I consider unacceptable was the attitude of the front desk girl when I complained about the cleanliness of the room. I had to work on the desk most of the time during my stay and when I decided to lay on the bed a STRONG sweat smell was coming from the pillows. In addition, a gray dirty sock was on the side of the bed and that is when I noticed this room was not even cleaned or swept correctly. I went downstairs to tell about this to the girl at the front desk, I decently waited until she finished checking in two new guests and when it was my turn I explained to her the situation. What was her answer? She could not move me to a clean room! Were more rooms available? I’m not sure but she didn’t give the option. I asked her for new linen and a broom so I could at least change the dirty linen and she was hesitant to take action on this! Why? Was it my fault the room was not cleaned? Or was she just not willing to help? My perception is the second option. She was not willing to help or solve the situation. She got mad at the cleaning staff (who were actually waiting in the lobby area) and made her clean the room again before they were dismissed from work. I had to stay working in the room while they cleaned and they actually challenged me asking WHY I DID NOT NOTICE THE ROOM WAS NOT CLEANED WHEN I FIRST CHECKED IN? Well, WHY DIDNT THEY CHECK THE ROOM WASNT CLEAN? It is not the customer’s responsibility, I suppose. What surprises me the most is that I never heard “I am sorry for the inconvenience…” any expressions that could make feel a customer assisted. The girl at the reception told me “if you say it is not clean, well… what can I say?” That is defined not the way I was expecting this to be treated. The hotel has potential, it is well located, the rates are reasonable, it has everything BUT it is lacking of good staff. It just takes 30 minutes to see how desperate the check-in process is due to this lady. And I know that if you got more written reviews like this they all would agree the staff is the problem because they are not even trying to do their job well.

I found the hotel very reasonably priced. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful as was the housekeeper. I slept well. I liked that it’s next door to the subway for easy transportation. The only down is the diner was a mile away but there are stores around. I was concerned about the neighborhood itself but it was fine. The hotel room was clean and well constructed.

When I booked this I was so worried because of all the other reviews I've read. The front desk staff was very polite BUT they should make people aware there is a $60 CASH deposit. ( I was aware of this prior and was prepared). Rooms are very small but clean. Overall great place located near subways. Very fair price. This was my first time in the city as well.

Best price, close to the Manhattan ( a train stop or ten min drive). Actually possible to find Parking if you're willing to walk 5 minutes. Stayed with my gf for 5 days room was good and had a good view.

AVOID. They will try to scam you in any way they can. It was naive of us but I always book hotels under my name/credit card so we inform them of our booking under my name. He said there is no reservation under that name. So I told him we got it through Expedia, the booking number and what day we booked/what days we will stay if he can look it up. The front desk guy said no. He didn’t want to try and was just stern saying we don’t have a booking with them. A very kind janitor who worked at the hotel who doesn’t speak any English was very very kind trying to help us with a translator app. The front desk guy continues to not help find our reservation and said we can book a room today since there are free rooms. So we tried getting a hold of Expedia and wouldn’t get through. We tried looking around/calling other hotels to see if any free rooms with similar prices but there was none available. So we went back to the hotel and paid for a whole different room because we had no choice. But 10 mins after we paid for that new room, realized looking through my husband’s emails, we booked it under his name. I sent my husband down immediately to inform the front desk. My husband said the moment the elevator opened down to the front desk, the front desk guy said “No refund” as if he knew. My husband said we booked it under his name and the guy said they can’t give a refund and go through Expedia. After the sour start of trip, I tried going through Expedia to get a refund. The Expedia staff could not get a hold of the hotel for weeks. After the Expedia staff gotten a hold of them, the hotel said “The booking was not used and was flagged as no show so the hotel decided to charge the entire amount for the reservation and no refund can be given.” The front desk could’ve easily asked if the reservation was under someone else’s name. He probably saw a guest name(my husband’s) with the same type of hotel room we booked and the exact same days we were staying until. He must’ve seen we weren’t remembering it was under my husband’s name and took advantage of that situation while smirking. Avoid this hotel at all cost. They will take any advantage of naiveness.

This hotel has really left us in a terrible position. I booked 4 months in advance yet received communication that the hotel is closing with immediate effect only 3 days in advance of our stay. Judging by other Google reviews, the same issue has been happening for over a month! The communication was sent by the booking site as well so literally not a word from hotel administration. There are no contact details for more information and trying to booking accommodation in NYC with 3 days notice? We're looking at double the cost. Whatever the deal is, it's clear that Hotel 21 has no regard for consumers or providing appropriate service. Stay well clear of this hotel if it's ever up and running again.
