Iconic park. Iconic location. There you are just walking down the street and boom! The sign says Herald Square and 35th. Why Herald Square? After the New York Herald newspaper that was at one time headquartered directly to the north. The monument is topped with the clock once located on the Herald building (James Gordon Herald) founded newspaper in 1835. The bronze sculptures are of two bell-ringing blacksmiths.

Herald Square is a perfect little spot to stop and rest between shopping. It is located near the main entrance of the Macy’s shopping mall and is also where you go to see the Christmas window displays. You can find metal tables and chairs scattered around for you to sit on and admire the awesome view of the Empire State Building.

🎍🧺🏬🛍️ Very busy park in the hustle and bustle of Midtown, right in front of Macy’s. It’s nice to just sit there and have a break when shopping or around Midtown.

I was in front of Macy's and there's lots of chairs and tables and it was a beautiful day. I enjoyed the day.

An intersection between streets with shops overlooking Empire and Times Square. There is also a shelf where you can get the NY City Guide.

The subway station leads to the Empire State Building and Macy's. There is the option to sit at small tables and watch the trouble. Even in December there are tables and chairs but it's pretty cool to stay longer. The tables and chairs are then cleared away and put together late at night.

Herald Sqaure....Home to Macy's and many other stores. Located in midtown 34th St. is one of the busiest commercial shopping areas of NYC.. It is also home to the world famous Madison Square Garden, Pennsylvania Train Station and just a hop, skip and a jump away from Times Square!! Ps: let's not forget it also a stone throw away from The Empire State Bldg!!

Herald Square is one of those iconic locations in NYC. Known primarily as the place where the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade ends up it features plenty of seating for hanging out or snacking, with great views of the Empire State Building, Macy's which is the largest department store in the world, and a good view towards Times Square. Bring some coffee and just take it all in.

I like Harold Square & frequent the park often sitting for 10 - 15 minutes to catch my breath, rest or eat lunch or drink coffee if I'm lucky to find a chair or table available which l wipe down with sanitizer. Park is clean & have flowers. Located in front of Macy's where l sometimes sit also if chair is available but prefers the park. However, all walks of life is in this area including bums, homeless and drug addicts so be aware of your surroundings and your belongings.

It is only quiet at the very end of the night. Crazy Jesus Lady, you tubers, Instagramers and protesters alike... Eat waffles, have a coffee, read magazines, ans watch the famous clock sculpture to announce the time.on the hour. The clock whose was constructed in 1895 by Antonun Jean Carles. Known as the James Gordon Bennett Monument, depicts Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom, with her owls in front of a bell, flanked by two bell ringers. The two bronze laborers, nicknamed Stuff and Guff give the appearance of ringing the bell with their mallets, while in actuality is rung by mallets located behind the bell. If you are there now, you can see Macy's window XMas displays that tells the story of a reindeer called TipToe...

The flower show was amazing this year! There was even an app that made butterflies appear. I was impressed at the inside decorations at Macy's they were fabulous. They were made with real flowers! There was an astonishing butterfly over head they really out did themselves this year.

Love the area especially the small park and part of the street closed to traffic. In the portion of Broadway were tables and chairs and pedestrian walkways. A nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee after shopping at Macy’s.

Great place outside of Macy's to sit down and watch the city go by. It's not as busy as Times Square, but it's still a good place to hang out outside.

Nice small park to relax and there is a nice statue on one end. A little crowded for a small area.

  • 3/5 Kevin B. 1 year ago on Google
Busy as heck, a little confusing to newbies and tourists but excellent for us locals because of the multiple street crossings, shopping, eating and meeting. I'd give it a higher star if there weren't so many panhandlers and crime happening.

As a New York Photographer Herald Square is a relatively small space in Manhattan but it is one of the most communal places you can go in NYC without being overwhelmed with unrequested banter, pushy sales tactics or plain noise. I have taken many photos of Herald Square I am Bxkiddo1 on IG click me to see more of New York though my lens. Firstly, HS is smack dab in midtown Manhattan the best place for anyone new to start, most people arrive from whichever borough they are traveling from into Penn Station or Grand Central Station. Penn Station is also connected to Madison Square Garden and is a 34th St Herald is on 33rd. Herald Square is surrounded on all sides by shopping, food and there is something to do in every direction you go. If you go uptown you will be in Times Square. If you go downtown you will be in the flatiron district. Herald Square is also where the world's greatest Macy's is. I love it there because you can see the tourist frolic around but no one really gets in your way like they do when mesmerized by the lights of Times Square so it is a great starting place for any New New Yorker or world traveler.

Live and vibrant place to be.. Lot of scaffolding in the area restricting the pedestrian movement, which is dense with 100s of pedestrians...

It needs to be cleaned up a bit; banning those stinky food trucks that sell absolutely abhorrent charred meats would be a big plus in terms of sprucing up the place. It is one of the most iconic places in the city after all, can we just give it the respect it’s due?!

It's a wonderful place to visit during Christmas. Lots of great stores with unique items. Having a hot chocolate to keep warm, and just overall great atmosphere. Everything is pricey, as expected but a great experience no less.
