The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, also known as Central Park Reservoir, is a decommissioned reservoir in Central Park in the borough of Manhattan, New York City, stretching from 86th to 96th Streets. It covers 106 acres (43 ha) and holds over 1,000,000,000 US gallons (3,800,000 m3) of water. Nicholas Dean proposed the construction of Central Park around its receiving reservoir (later the Great Lawn and Turtle Pond) in the 1850s. As part of this project, the Central Park Reservoir was completed in 1862. The reservoir was decommissioned in 1993, after it was deemed obsolete, and control was transferred to the Department of Parks and Recreation in 1999. The Central Park Reservoir was renamed in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in 1994 to commemorate her contributions to the city, and because she lived nearby.

My favorite place to run in the entire central park. The gravel track is leveled and has enough space. Although there are some spots which are crowded most of the route is scenic and wonderful to run. I also feel this reservoir is the best picture of the Manhattan skyline. For tourists the ideal time to visit is in spring.

Water? Absolutely, there's an abundance of it right in the heart of Manhattan. The stunning views are a treat, even during the peak of summer. You'll find plenty of locals jogging around, tourists capturing memories with their cameras, all contributing to a wonderful experience in Central Park. While I missed the mesmerizing bloom of the Sakura in spring, I must say it's an outstanding year-round destination. Don't miss out on the chance to enjoy this fantastic spot!

Central Park is impressive. It's the most pleasant part of the city. Well-maintained, green, catering to pedestrians, runners, cyclists, and those seeking peace and quiet

Each lap is approximately 2km, making it an ideal running course. You can also run around the reservoir. I think one lap will be about 2.5 km. There are many people running. It's safe and the scenery is nice, so you can exercise with peace of mind. This is a running course with a total length of approximately 2km. There are many people running. The scenery is beautiful and the area is safe, so you can exercise with peace of mind.

One of my simple pleasures in this life is to wake up fresh as a daisy on a blessed Sunday, lace up my size 12 all black Bondi 7 Hokas and make the on foot excursion from Alphabet City to Central Park, culminating at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. Oh yeah, you read that right. Size 12. hehe :) Also a core requirement for the journey is getting a soft pretzel from a pretzel stand on the entrance to Central park on 8th ave and 59th street. I get salt on the pretzel but scrape it off because I just want a *hint* of salt, not a full salty boi you know? I know people will argue these soft pretzels kinda taste like cardboard, but they're just so good to me. A bit crunchy on the outside with a soft doughy interior. F, now I want one. Fueled by a soft pretzel w/ a hint of salt, I snake through the park and end up at the Jackie O Reservoir. There is nothing quite as humbling as getting to the north end at 96th street, turning around and just taking in the New York Skyline reflected off the rippling water. One of my favorite views in the city. Maybe it was growing up by the ocean, but something about being near a big body of water really allows me to be at ease with myself. Also, walking around this 1.58 mile gravel track is a great way to get your steps in. As a result of this excursion I hit 39,629 steps last Sunday. The fact I didn't hit 40k has been keeping me up these past few nights. Less than 400 steps away from greatness and I couldn't get it done? It's events like these that really make me question who I am as a man. I need my get-back..... IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

One of my favorite places in Central Park. Fantastic views of the city from each side of the reservoir, either day or night; my favorite is looking downtown from the north part of the reservoir. Great dirt path around the reservoir that is well lit at night. One of my favorite loops to run in Central Park, highly recommended!

How can someone not love Central Park, the lake is beautiful, the walking is great, it feels like you arnt in the big city until you see the beautiful skyline. There is so much to do in Central Park. Obscure things such as, rock climbing, while also typical things you have seen in movies like picnics and sports events. There is limited drinking water and few food options in the park, but right on the outside of the park there are ample food options within walking distance. You could spend an entire day here and probably not see everything. A must see if you are in NYC.

This water reservoir offers very good views to Manhattan skyline. Defenitelly recommend making the effort and moving away from the most typical central park places to enjoy this one. I recommend more stating in the North part of the reservoir as the views are better with more exposure.

We like this place from the park. You can walk around or go jogging. There are restrooms too. You have there a safe spot for the sun and you can relax there. Very beautiful place.

Really pretty views of the water and the buildings along the east and west side. Really great and easy walk to get some steps in. Lots of runners, joggers, and walkers along the path. Easy to get to when in Central Park. Takes about 45 minutes to an hour to walk around if you are just strolling. You can see ducks and birds as you walk the path. Really nice date spot.

If they added 5 feet of earth on top of the reservoir's stone bottom, large rocks, gravel and sand for sandy beaches, planted tasty underwater plants and 10,000 trout minnows...you could rightly can the reservoir a lake...Jacqueline Lake! "Lake" is much more romantic than "reservoir"!

This location is great for a relaxing walk or run. The Water in it self is beautiful, but thanks to it's size it's also a great spot to see the Manhattan skyline. They skyscrapers mirror in the water and it makes a great photo spot. Especially at night you can get some awesome looking shots. You can see an example attached as image to this rewiew

Beautiful and peaceful place… Track around all reservoir great for jogging and taking a walk. If you don’t look in the distance, you would think you are in the middle of forest and next to a lake, based on your surroundings. Track around Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir is definitely not crowded and not many tourists, or even native New Yorkers know about it. Track is not paved (great for runners but little bit dusty). Great place to visit during day, definitely would not recommend visiting it during nighttime. I’ve been there multiple times during summer 2023, and photos and videos are from that time period. Enjoy

You'll have to walk a few steps from the main road in the park to actually see the lake (you can't see it if just walking and riding past it). It is really a beautiful large reservoir lake that helps regulate the air and temperature of the surroundings. Its perimeter is also a great running path.

This is a great lake, but seems to be oriented towards locals rather than tourists. If you like walking, you still might want to visit it.

Fantastic walk around the water reservoir; well maintained and clean. Lots of joggers, and tourists, but not uncomfortable

This reservoir is along one of the most beautiful bike paths anywhere. I strongly recommend doing the entire loop of Central Park on the bike path, and stopping in to see the amazing sights of the reservoir, from both sides. The bike path is great via Citi Bikes, escooters, or ebikes. The top part of the park should not be missed!

It's really nice at this portion of central park, feels more like a lake in the middle of the city. Multiple trails that go along side, you can run, walk, or ride a bike. You also get a pretty surreal 360Β° view of the skycrapers that tower over each other. It's a solid choice and location for exercise any time of the day.
