Big fan of stand up comedy and this was definitely on my bucket list. Went on a Saturday night at 6pm. Would recommend coming later, maybe the 8pm-12am shows as they’re mostly like to have special appearances. Even though we went at 6pm, it was still a full house. All the comedians and comediennes were funny. Each bit was about 7-10 minutes. The earlier you get there, the closer tables you get to the stage. Book reservations online and show up and pay at end of night. Minimum 2 drinks per person and each ticket is $25 per person. So expect to spend about $80-100 for two people. Must visit if you’re in NY. This is located in Greenwich village. Be prepared to be called on if you’re sitting in the front rows.

One of the highlights of our trip to New York City! This spot is a super famous stand up comedy locale, with up-and-comers as well as really famous comics. Reserve spots in advance! We got extremely lucky on the standby list, but it was too risky. Comics were ALL hilarious. You’ll share a table with other parties/people, but it adds to the atmosphere. 2 item minimum (can be food or drinks). No cell phones allowed (they seal them in envelopes), again, it adds to the atmosphere. Bouncers and waiters have a real no-nonsense vibe. Would absolutely love the chance to come back some day.

This was my first time at a standup comedy show and it was a blast! The ticket check guy was super nice and got us the seats right in front of the mic. Got called out a bunch which was pretty hilarious. Spent the entire time laughing, we will definitely be back!

Great venue, hilarious comedians and delicious cocktails! Be sure to register for shows in advance. You never know who might show up. The show we attended had several amazing comedians. Will definitely return again!

Great experience. The process of getting seated was smooth. The staff were professional. Four out of five comedians were awesome. (One was so-so.) But, real talk ... These are the best comedians in the country at the top of their game. You will not be disappointed going to the Comedy Cellar. Now, we had a special bonus - one of those national act drop ins that is always possible at the Comedy Cellar. Bill Burr dropped in and absolutely slayed. You don't need to be told that the Cellar is legendary. But it is. Phones are placed in pouches (that you keep) for good reason, so I only have a picture of the empty stage.

Was everything I had hoped for and more. As a huge lover of comedy I have often watched specials or YouTube videos of comedians performing here. I was lucky enough to get tickets on my last visit and got seated front row. This was the experience of a lifetime. Have seen many comedians at various sized venues and nothing compared to this. You probably know this already but yes, there is a two drink minimum. No they do not have to be alcoholic drinks. There is also a three drink maximum, so space your drinks out wisely. Yes you have to seal your phone and smart watch in a bag but you get to keep that bag with you and at your table. Be sure to turn your phone off before sealing it up. You don't want that ringing at your table in the middle of a show.

The Cellar is the place to go if you want to see the best comics in the NY scene. While I would not anticipate seeing a surprise set from a big name comedian every time you go, I think you can rest assured you’ll have a great time. The food and drinks are pretty great, too!

A must do!!! Great time of laughter regardless of not having a surprise guest. It’s worth making a reservation for the time you plan on going and line up 45 to an hour ahead of time. The standby line gets long and you risk not being able to enter. They have a 2 drink minimum and food if needed. Just a great time overall.

My bf spontaneously booked tickets for the night of and it was absolutely amazing. We laughed the entire time, every comedian was incredibly talented. There were quite a few big names that made a surprise appearance as well! The food was surprisingly amazing, we got the big hummus plate it was so good I still think about it. Will definitely go back during my next trip to NYC.

    5. My favourite thing to do in NYC. Have been to multiple shows here over the years on both weeknights and weekends and I’ve never had a bad experience. Very special and intimate way to see comedy and you never know who will make a surprise guest appearance. No phones or electronic devices allowed- inside- they give you an envelope to put them in. Make sure to bring ID. It’s a well oiled machine and the bouncers are strict, so read all the instructions online about when to arrive etc. There is a 2 item minimum in addition to your ticket price- but the prices are reasonable and if you’re not in the mood to drink the food is great too! If you’re with a small group be prepared to potentially share a table with folks you’ve not met before- it’s all part of the experience. Have seen amazing surprise acts there over the years!

I’ve been to the comedy cellar a handful of times and it never disappoints. This last visit was a great night of comedy I won’t soon forget, filled with laughs and the opportunity to see some comics who are already writers for hit shows. The staff is nice, and you never know who you are going to see take the stage. Highly recommended.

The bouncers are quite nasty. They are clearly making a clear concerted effort to be as disrespectful as possible. But I understand this is their teeny tiny little claim to power in this city and they milk that for all it’s worth. Especially the short balding guy. I imagine the only reason he hasn’t been socked in the face is cause his fellow colleague is pretty large. My advice is to not interact with them unless absolutely necessary. As for the show it was AMAZING! The best comedy show I’ve been to. We didn’t have tickets so we came an hour early and lined up outside around the corner. If you’re in the front of the line you’ll get in. We weren’t given any information and ignored right until the show started and then we got in - so hold out hope if you’re waiting. It’s totally worth it. Wait staff is also amazing and they are doing their best navigating this tiny room with drinks!

My mom and I got lucky and did the stand by line on a Thursday night. We were within the first 10 standby to get into the aparent sold out 7:00 showtime. We did get there around 6:15-6:30 and waited outside till almost 7:05 before they started letting stand by in. I felt very safe, at the door they check all vaccinated guests and put all electronics in a little pouch and hand it to you to hold during the show. They have a two drink/food min per person and it was helpful that they put the ticket price on the final bill so there’s no need to pay for things separately. Man you are 100% in a cellar lol. You totally get packed in there but my mom and I were lucky to get seated at a 2 top table. I did see some groups of people sitting with multiple different parties. As for the comedians, like many shows, some were fantastic and some felt a little stale. All and all we had a great time and we’re exited for our next visit. I snaped a few quick photos when the show ended and we could open our phone pouches :)

Good dive comedy club, cool atmosphere reasonably priced - 2 drink minimum for each person. The beer on tap was a bit warm and flat, but can't expect much more in a dive bar. We had the fries were really good and priced well. The show itself had a lineup of 6 comics - the intro was great, but some comics were hit and miss. The headliner Godfrey was good, but Ive seen better - overall I'd say it was a good night with good comedy.

Hands down, the best comedy club on the planet. Even if you don't recognize a single name on the lineup, you can rest assured they are hilarious and you'll have a fantastic time. I can't count how many times I've been to the Cellar, and it has never, ever disappointed. It's simply the best! P.S. don't be discouraged if you cannot snag a RSVP for a show ahead of time. If you get to the show early enough (usually an hour or so ahead of time), you can get in via standby. It's honestly worth the wait!

Last night, we visited the Comedy Cellar in New York City, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we stepped in, the vibrant atmosphere and the warm welcome set the tone for an incredible evening. The lineup of comedians was exceptionally talented, each bringing their unique style of humor that had us laughing non-stop. We shared a table and that was fun It's not just a comedy show; it's an experience that uplifts and entertains in the best way possible. We left with sore cheeks from laughing so hard and memories that will last a lifetime. The Comedy Cellar truly showcases the best of New York's comedy scene. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a night filled with laughter and joy!

Loved, loved, loved the show! We were nervous because we got seated right in front of the stage & did not know what to expect! We got included in some the jokes (which were hilarious) and that made the experience even better! I recommend making a reservation & know in advance that phones/any electronics are NOT allowed during the show! There is a 2 drink minimum (get the pineapple vodka drink!) We had dinner before hand at the Olive Tree Café which I would suggest doing as well!

We had so much fun at Comedy Cellar! We saw a show at the Village Underground (there are 3 other rooms) and I was taken back with how big the room was. We arrived about 30 mins early and had to show our ID at the door. The guy checked us in and gave us our table number which was written on a white envelope. Once we were inside we were instructed to place our phones and smart watches inside the envelope until the end of the show. From there we were led downstairs to be seated. The seating is a mix between really tight and spacious couches which I assume is for bigger parties. There is a 2 item minimum and the servers are quite efficient. I really enjoyed the experience and recommend booking the tickets online in advance.

My husband and I loved the show last night! We went to the 10:45 showing at the MacDougall location and it was brilliant. All of the comedians were hilarious. The only small downside was the pompous 24 year olds right by the stage. But the waitress gave them a warning right away, and then the comedians themselves roasted them in their jokes! Loved it. We will definitely be back if we visit NYC again. Also side note: I’d also just like to say sorry to the bouncer outside, I was taking a picture of the Comedy Cellar sign before we left, and I absolutely didn’t notice he smiled in both those shots 😂 Sorry sir, I didn’t mean to ignore you!!

It’s ALWAYS a fun night when we go to the Comedy Cellar. It’s so easy to reserve online. Never stress about the lineup because there are always surprise guests and everyone truly knocks it out of the park. Our favorite host is Aruba Ray! There is a two drink (or item) minimum.

Saw an incredible show here last Sunday night. The comedians were so good and incredibly friendly. The crowd was a little lame (out of towners) but if you know what to expect at a comedy show (and etiquette) I highly recommend going here!

Visited here and was not disappointed. The ticket prices are almost too good to be true for the comics that perform. Went on a Monday night and saw Mateo Lane and Mark Normand. Comedy cellar has a 2 item minimum from the menu but everything is good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the bees knees and the potato chips.

We loved our experience from start to finish. Dinner at Olive Tree and the show at The Comedy Cellar at the end! I also have to mention that our waiter Ivan was fantastic and was so helpful getting us in the standby line. He went above and beyond on that one. Thank you Ivan.

Our show was amazing!!! We didn’t know if we’d see a significant difference in this more well known venue and others around NY, but there definitely was. Every comedian here was truly hilarious and amazing!! And then Chris Rock just shows up randomly and does an hour set!! Wow. The venue is intimate and they pack you in there, but man, what an experience!

Such a bucket list moment to be here, and front row! No big-name comedians but we expected that coming on a Friday. The amateurs were all fantastic and so funny. We got called on by almost each of them as expected in the front and the host even had everyone clapping for my birthday. If you arent a fan of crowded spaces and close proximity, it isn't for you but this is the reality of comedy clubs. 2 drink minimum is enforced & pricey and the check in line can be confusing (in the alley down the street). Id recommend giving patrons like a 20 min warning or something for the end of the show because suddenly it ended and people still had full beers (which they were forced to buy) and staff was taking them away and asking us to leave and it was the last show of the night. My bf was in the bathroom and staff tried to take his beer I had to actively take it back out of his hands and say No Im sorry he isnt finished unless we get a refund.. either allow people to finish or better yet dont enforce 2 drink minimum because some men that were at the show I was at could cleary not handle their liquor. One made a huge weird scene in the bathroom wait area and made me and other women uncomfortable. Will be back regardless of these minor faults. These comedy clubs always come with quirks, we frequent them often. Thank you!

I love this place! My wife and I came here roughly 7 years ago to celebrate her birthday (before she became my wife), and we always remembered having a great time. There was so much nostalgia coming back the other night. The crazier part is we bought some stand ups from Louis Ck’s website recently and thought it’ll be so cool if we can see him one day live. Next thing you know…the last act was performed by the man himself, Louis CK. We were so ecstatic when he got on stage being only five feet away from him! All the comedians that night were great love love love this place and certainly will be coming back with our friends next time. Thank you Comedy Cellar for all that you do! Keep up the great work. PS: Their food is amazing as well I have nothing bad to say about them and I’m a picky person :).

I attended a show at the Comedy Cellar on Monday night and it was absolutely fantastic! It’s a small, intimate club, so there’s no bad seats. The comedy acts are top level comedians along with new acts. The employee service was very attentive! My only gripe about the place is that they serve food during the show, but that’s only my personal opinion and a very minor distraction. Overall, I highly recommend the Comedy Cellar to anyone who enjoys stand-up and likes to laugh!

Never disappoints. A must visit for every NYC trip. Been on weekends, random Tuesday (this time), early and/or late, and never had a bad time. Reasonable food and drinks and of course great live comedy. I always walk out with a few new comics to follow! Very organized and keep the show moving along. Dave Attell closes out a night better than anyone.

I love the Comedy Cellar and have been there at least a dozen times. Best talent in NYC and beyond! Reservations are free, so make them in advance. The MacDougal St location is the historic original where many successful comics started out, but all of the venues are fabulous. You won't be disappointed.

An authentic experience in New York. The comedy cellar is an institution, if you go in the cafe you can meet many of the comedians that’ll play that night. The food is great too.

  • 5/5 Ryan V. 1 year ago on Google
Iconic! The best place to watch comedy in the world. Yes of course you will have to buy a couple drinks minimum. That’s the least I would expect when you are paying 15-20 bucks for world class comedy front to back. I’m amazing with the amount of people they can get in and out of the cellar but it’s a well oiled machine. Thanks for so many unforgettable nights!

Great place to see comedy live. Top notch staff have check in, seating, and food/drink orders down to a science. All seats have good views of stage. Food is good which is not always the case at comedy clubs. I recently attended a taping and the comedian was awesome. I greatly appreciated that cell phones were put into envelopes (provided by the venue) so no one could use during the show. This place backs up its reputation by continuing to provide a good experience for the audience.

First time to the iconic comedy club and it did not disappoint. I love the fact that you have a server who will grab you drinks so you don’t miss anything. We had Jon Laster, winner of Stand Up NBC, MC our show and he absolutely smashed it. We got to see the legendary Colin Quinn do his thing. The entire lineup was great and Mike Feeney took it home with an hilarious and energetic closing set. Can’t wait to go back.

Haven't been here for a few years - even though the whole comedy scene has been censored and dragged under by the "offended" and "cancel culture" movements, was nice and fresh to see the comedians not give a F here and go all out. Some of those jokes were pretty extreme 😂 Awesome

  • 5/5 Kevin M. 1 year ago on Google
Premier place in the city for comedy. Reserve to see your favorite that you really want to see. There is Stand by for tickets to Stand up if you are lucky but don’t count on it. Lots of shows a night. Lots of laughs.

  • 3/5 Tara J. 2 years ago on Google
I would love to give this establishment 5 stars but their floor manager easily ruined that, and I'm sure many other peoples nights. Myself and 6 girlfriends paid a visit last Saturday evening. The comedians were truly hilarious, very talented and would definitely see them all again at an individual show. Our waitress was great and very attentive. The crowd was awesome as well. However, we were told three separate times by the lady floor manager to "be quiet or get out!". Now, we can be a loud group of ladies, but I was sitting at the head of our table facing the stage and I know for a fact we maybe WHISPERED seven total words. Seven. Call me crazy but words being whispered amongst girlfriends having a fun night out and not causing a single disruption is vanilla compared to the grim reaper of fun interrupting our night and causing an actual scene. It was so absurd I thought for a second it was part of the show and we were getting Punk'd. Karen, assuming that is your name, know your surroundings and try to maybe enjoy your job. You work at a Comedy club for Christs sake.

The comedians were absolute professionals. Extremely funny! I was rolling off my seat laughing the whole time. Everyone brought great energy including staff. It was one of the best nights of my life! Amazing!! A must go to while in the city.
