I don't find knishes intrinsically interesting, but it's hard to imagine them done better than here. The worker warmed them up for me beforehand. Of the 3 I had, my favorite two were the potato (the pepper works well with it) and kasha (a taste I rarely encounter nowadays). Spinach I liked, just not much as the other two.

A classic neighborhood gem! The cheese chocolate knish was divine at only $6. Great texture and not too sweet. This place needs to be protected and preserved for the next generation.

The place is wonderful and is a peephole to the old school new York heritage. The food is simple, quick, and comforting. There is a board inside which says, "You dont have to be Jewish to eat Knish." well that's true.

We sat at the park across the street and enjoyed this warm treat. Potato and spinach dipped in mustard was delicious on a cold winter day.

I was walking past the store and the knishes in the storefront immediately caught my eye, and boy am I glad I went in. I have never had a knish before, but the cherry knish was amazing! Definitely worth stopping in.

The blueberry + cheese knish is damn good! I was told it’s their best-seller. The worker heated it up for me and it was perfection. Very old world New York. Can’t wait to try more flavors.

Here knishes have not changed since I was a child( a long long time ago). Still a treat to go the Lower East side and get a cherry cheese knish. Actually more dessert than knish but still a real treat. Only downside is that there is now no seating and No glass of cold borscht.

Made a visit to this historic gem and decided to indulge in the renowned knish, both in its savory and sweet renditions. For my culinary voyage, I opted for the blueberry cheese and the daily special: pizza flavor. Let's talk about the savory contender first, the pizza-flavored knish. It was tasty, no doubt, but it paled in comparison to the decadent blueberry cheese counterpart. This blueberry cheese knish was an absolute revelation. Imagine a generous filling of sweet cheese custard, boasting a luxurious consistency that falls somewhere between whipped cream and cream cheese, all elegantly crowned with a dollop of fresh blueberry jam. Every bite was a harmonious symphony of flavors, and trust me, I couldn't stop myself from savoring every morsel. It was that good. Now, the pizza knish had its merits too. It was like a doughy embrace, hugging a flavorful mashup of mashed potato, pizza sauce, and a slice of cheese on top. While it was undeniably delicious, it didn't quite reach the lofty heights of the blueberry cheese sensation. As for the price, it tallied up to $14 for both knishes, which might raise an eyebrow or two. But hey, considering the historical significance of this place, it feels somewhat justified, especially in the context of today's rather disheartening inflation rates Lol.

If knishes are your thing, there’s no place better! Doesn’t look like they make it here but the kitchen is in the basement. Start with the basic potato. Move on the trying the other flavors. Bring friends to share as each one is pretty big.

So pleased! Had this delivered to GA, shipping was fantastic with dry ice and a thick bag, so arrived cold!! As a kid in NJ my mom would get knishes from Pathmark that were square and thick crust. These did not have that crunch, but flavor fantastic and spot on. I put in oven for 10 minutes and center was still cold, so nuked for 45 seconds. They didn't stay firm enough to eat by hand, wonder if need to bake longer with maybe an egg brush? Or pop in fryer with oil for a crisp outer and soft inner? Overall, VERY HAPPY, one is enough to share, very fresh taste, highly recommended.

Love going there every Sunday. The workers are always nice :). My favorite options are the potato one and the spinach one. I’ll Keep trying so I can update :). Plus there’s a lot of history over this area.m, definitely one of the best spots to stop when hanging around the lower east side.

Since 1910. A piece of NY history and a must visit. Wide variety of Knishes. Tried the potato and apple struddle. Both were excellent and filling. Want to try the pizza Knish next.

These are by far the best knishes! We used to go almost every weekend when we lived in the West Village. Now, we get these amazing knishes shipped to our home in Florida. They are still as delicious as they were 25 years ago! We’re soo glad to have found them on Goldbelly. Thank you!

These Kinishes are great, classic and very filling. I worked with a great professional Knish maker from Israel whose were the best I ever had. These are very close and kind of in the same style where the potatoes are more dense and flavorful. No relation whatsoever to the frozen brown squares you might get in a store. These must be tried. Go with the real deal!

Not really my cup of tea, but not bad. Interesting food for what it is. Had some other customers cut right in front of me and nobody say anything about it on my behalf that worked there 😂 But ok whatever go right ahead. Someone told me to come check it out so I did, it was fine. Probably won't go back, but if you're into this type of food I'm sure it's considered great!

My family told me about this longtime new york establishment so I just had to stop in. I wasn’t terribly familiar with a knish so I think I was a little ignorant about all of it - I went with the spinach. Would love to come back and try the blueberry cheese knish, or something from the sweet menu. Credit card minimum is $10, fyi, so bring cash.

I hear some people say negative things but I beg to differ. I was brought up in the Bronx and appreciated everything I received to eat. I was in a Jewish household and my grandma made knishes the old fashion way from scratch. When I first visited Yonah Shimmels it brought back amazing memories and they tasted kind of like hers. I know that's my opinion but if there are people who don't like them just don't go back. Simple solution ❤️

1st time ever experiencing a knish and I’m happy it was here. Lots of options to choose from and the waiter/hostess was a doll.

For delicious knishes I would highly recommend. I've been coming here every time I visit New York.

The savory knish is so much more yum than the sweet one. I was eating it for the first time (spinach and apple strudel), and felt they are very filling.

These amazing knishes do not need all the usual fluff or stylish atmosphere to sell me. I've had knishes. I've made my own knishes (just for fun they were ok). Never had I even considered a sweet knish! I absolutely loved the chocolate! The shop is old and well worn in. I love it. Thank you to whoever the bakers are for adding a little love as the special ingredient common among any baked good worth eating. 😍

Maybe the last of the old New York knish bakeries. My 91 year old grandfather went here after school as a kid. Knishes are good, but that hardly needs saying. Don’t you dare compare them to the fried atrocities sold on 5th Avenue and Central Park.

Tried sweet potato knish and their special of the day garlic and onion knish. It was great but nothing more special than flavoured mash potatoes... I'll give the spinach and sweet flavours another try and see if my opinions change.

Small shop with delightful knishes! Who doesn’t love a traditional mashed potato bun?

Still the best of the best, no kugel or potato pancakes till COVID is over. Even my little dog celebrates when he smells them heating up 🥳
